Can we send you a free sticker?

This week, our government began sending letters to immigrants with gravely ill children, informing them that the program allowing them to stay in the country to get their children lifesaving treatment had been terminated and that they and their children may be deported in the next month.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Trump administration has reached a shocking new low—yes, shocking even for Donald Trump. This week, our government began sending letters to immigrants with gravely ill children, informing them that the program allowing them to stay in the country to get their children lifesaving treatment had been terminated and that they and their children may be deported in the next month.1

The Trump administration's policies are despicable. They are cruel. And we've got to make sure that voters end them in 2020—as we work to build the genuinely equitable, just society we really need.

The Muslim Ban. Shutting down the government for 35 days over his border wall. Locking up children in cages. Calling murderous Nazis in Charlottesville "very fine people." Pardoning former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who shackled a pregnant woman, refused to investigate child sex crimes, and even bragged that his tent city jail was a "concentration camp."2,3,4 The list goes on and on.

As the 2020 election gets underway, we must mobilize to defeat this disgusting ideology at the ballot box.

That's why MoveOn just printed a big batch of "Vote Against Hate" stickers, and we're giving them away for free while supplies last.

Just click here or on the image below to get your sticker now.

Although Trump may be the most public face of America's racism, he is only a symptom of the larger problem of ingrained racism in our society—from the insides of our living rooms to our board rooms, schools, criminal justice system, and the halls of Congress.

Fighting to truly dismantle white supremacy must happen on all fronts. It's not a partisan project—and defeating Trump and the GOP isn't the end-point. But in 2020 we have a chance to deal a real blow to racism and its enablers by not only defeating Racist in Chief Donald Trump but also his allies in the House and Senate.

Like Steve King, the white nationalist representative from Iowa.

Like Mitch McConnell, Trump's single biggest defender.

And like Susan Collins, Cory Gardner, and so many more who remain silent in the face of Trump's hateful attacks in a desperate effort to protect their GOP majority.

These Republican politicians deserve a pink slip, and that is exactly what MoveOn members are planning to deliver to them next November, by building a grassroots movement that powers a blue wave to sweep Trump and his apologists out of Washington—and that presses every candidate for office to be anti-racist.

Are you ready to join the fight? Get your free "Vote Against Hate" sticker now.

Thanks for all you do.

Mitch McConnell just shut down the FEC

MoveOn has launched billboards in Kentucky, McConnell's home state, urging voters to "Vote Mitch Out" next year, as part of our big campaign to end Republican control of the Senate. Here are photos of the billboards:

Dear MoveOn member,

It's stunning, but Mitch McConnell has effectively shut down the Federal Election Commission (FEC), the agency that oversees and enforces our nation's campaign finance laws.1

Since McConnell became the Senate majority leader in 2015, he's refused to confirm commissioners to fill vacancies on the FEC.2 As of yesterday, after a commissioner retired from the FEC, the commission no longer has enough members to reach a quorum, meaning it no longer has the power to enforce campaign finance laws ... or even meet to discuss them.

McConnell knows no shame—from shutting down the work of the FEC to stealing a U.S. Supreme Court seat to blocking legislation on issue after issue, including a House-passed bill to require background checks for gun purchases that's supported by more than 90% of voters.3

Eddie, we absolutely MUST defeat McConnell. And polls show that we can. McConnell's the most unpopular member of the entire Senate, and more than 60% of the voters in McConnell's home state of Kentucky say that "it's time for someone new" to represent the state.4,5

That's why today MoveOn launched billboards in Kentucky, McConnell's home state, urging voters to "Vote Mitch Out" next year, as part of our big campaign to end Republican control of the Senate. Here are photos of the billboards:

Can you chip in $3 to help expand the placement of the billboards targeting Mitch McConnell to more locations and to help MoveOn put up billboards targeting other vulnerable Republican senators who are up for re-election? Click here now.

McConnell boasts that he "looked Barack Obama in the eye" and said, "Mr. President, you will not fill the Supreme Court vacancy."6

He says his "proudest moment" was confirming Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.7

Last month, after Robert Mueller warned Congress about Russia interfering in our elections, McConnell single handedly blocked election security legislation.8

And now, McConnell has grounded to a halt the agency that enforces our campaign finance laws—and on the eve of the 2020 presidential and congressional elections.

Defeating Donald Trump is our top priority. But it is not enough. We simply MUST defeat Mitch McConnell and end Republican control of the Senate. But we need your help to do it.

Will you chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—now to help us expand our billboard campaign and power the biggest grassroots elections program in MoveOn's 20-year history?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in now to defeat McConnell and end GOP control of the Senate.

Thanks for all you do.

RSVP: National organizing call

Will you join the National Organizing Call to stop Trump's deportation and detention machine this Thursday, August 29 at 7 p.m. ET?

Dear MoveOn member,

Will you join the National Organizing Call to stop Trump's deportation and detention machine this Thursday, August 29 at 7 p.m. ET?

RSVP here to join.

Every week this summer has brought new attacks from Trump against the rights and safety of immigrant families and communities.

Just last week, the Trump administration announced its intention to detain families indefinitely, defying a long-standing order on how to treat children in detention safely and with dignity. This follows unprecedented workplace raids that tore families apart, new rules designed to make families fear utilizing safety net programs like SNAP, and rhetoric from rally stages and Twitter that has fueled racist attacks, including acts of mass violence.

Trump is continuing to escalate his racist agenda.

But Congress has the power to take action and rein in these abuses—and that opportunity comes when House and Senate Democrats will play a critical role in passing a government spending bill by September 30.

That's right: All the Democrats who have expressed outrage can use their congressional power to force limits, accountability, and spending cuts on the agencies carrying out human rights abuses against immigrants at the border and across the U.S.

When our members of Congress get back to D.C. next week to debate the budget, let's make sure they return with the message that they must call ICE and CBP to account for their human rights abuses.

This Thursday, at 7 p.m. ET/6 CT/5 MT/4 PT, we're hosting a national organizing call so you can find out how you can take action before your members of Congress return to the Capitol.

RSVP now to save your spot.

RSVP to join the national organizing call.

On the call, you'll

  • hear our plan to create pressure on members of Congress while they are home and keep up that pressure when they return to Washington;

  • get important info directly from leaders and issue experts from MoveOn, United We Dream, and the National Immigrant Justice Center on how we confront and stop Trump's attacks;

  • learn more about the cruel strategies of the Trump administration, the impacts of these policies to immigrant families and communities; and

  • most importantly—discover ways that you can take action.

It's crucial that our representatives hear from us now—loudly and clearly—that they must do everything in their power to rein in ICE and CBP.

This administration is ruthlessly intent on causing pain to immigrant and Latino communities. The most immediate action Congress can take to restrain these out-of-control agencies is by slashing the budgets they use to fund their cruelty.

Join the National Organizing Call on Thursday, August 29, to find out how you can deliver a message to your member of Congress to demand real, concrete action to stop Trump's deportation machine.

RSVP here.

Since Trump assumed office, MoveOn members have consistently shown up to push back against the worst of his administration's racist policies. Together, hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members—from all walks of life—have taken to the streets, called Congress, signed petitions, chipped in to fund these important fights, and more. We've marched against the Muslim Ban, rallied against Trump's family separation policy, and acted in solidarity with Dreamers to pass important legislation that will set up the eventual passage of the Dream Act in the next administration.

Now, we have just days to make our voices heard before our members of Congress head back to Washington. Let's join together and stop Trump's deportation machine.

Thanks for all you do.

The most progressive candidate

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear MoveOn member,

Primary season is here, and we have the chance to make history.

Do you want to fight for health care? Do you want to see drastic changes in this country's immigration policies? What about plans for immediate action on the student debt crisis? Or maybe even more green jobs that will minimize the carbon footprint on our environment while powering our economy?

You can demand this by starting a petition that speaks to these issues. You can start a petition that advocates for one, many, or all of the 2020 presidential candidates to take a stance on one of these issues or lay out a comprehensive plan of their own.

This is a moment where we can turn the course of history around and center the progressive values that we will always fight for. This is a moment where we can make sure our voice is heard in this pivotal election.

Will you start a petition to a 2020 presidential candidate of your choice, pushing an issue that matters to you and to our movement?

The 2020 Democratic primary nomination process is where the key policies of this election will be decided. Candidates will speak to the issues that voters want to hear about, and that's where we come in.

Our progressive agenda and the equity that we want to see in the world and in our communities take work. Will you step up and demand that these candidates support our progressive values and advocate for student debt relief, immigration reform, reproductive justice, rights for trans people, fighting against institutional racism, and other critical issues?

Start a petition today, urging one of the 2020 presidential candidates or all of them to sign on to a key issue that is impacting your community.

2020 is going to be a big year for progressives.

We can make history. We have the opportunity right now to hold presidential candidates accountable to our values and our issue priorities. Will you step up at this moment?

Thanks for all you do.

Susan Collins bombshell

Last year, Senator Susan Collins cast the deciding vote to give Brett Kavanaugh a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last year, Senator Susan Collins cast the deciding vote to give Brett Kavanaugh a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.1

Not only did she vote for Kavanaugh, but she delivered a 43-minute Senate floor speech in support of his confirmation, disregarding the harrowing testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford.2 That act did enough damage to the cause of women's rights to more than undo everything Collins has done for women during her two-decade career in the U.S. Senate.

Now, according to the nonpartisan Cook Political Report, Collins is in real trouble, and we have a clear chance at defeating her. Her Senate seat—which is one of only two Senate seats currently filled by a Republican in a state won by Hillary Clinton in 2016—just moved to the "toss-up" category from "lean Republican."3

Will you chip in $5 a month to support MoveOn's campaign to defeat Susan Collins, end GOP control of the Senate, and defeat Donald Trump in 2020?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

For years, Maine voters thought that Collins stood with women and was a defender of Roe v. Wade. But now:

They are facing the hard reality that Collins chose to vote for a sexual predator hell-bent on taking rights away from women.

They are facing the hard reality that she chose to value the career advancement of a predator over the experiences and traumas of the women he victimized.

They are facing the hard reality that she sided with Trump and Mitch McConnell over the needs of millions of women, in her words and deeds, again and again, in recent years.

And they are facing the hard reality that while Collins sometimes speaks like a moderate, she acts like a right-wing extremist when it comes to her votes to further the Trump-McConnell agenda. (Often, when Trump does something repugnant, she rushes in front of TV cameras to say how concerned and disappointed she is. She's done it so many times that it's become a joke on Saturday Night Live. But the reality is that under Trump her voting record became MORE partisan, setting a new personal record for the most party-line votes in her entire career.)4

Not only can we defeat Collins, but her seat is critical in our fight to end Republican control of the Senate. But to defeat Collins, we need to spread the word about her record. MoveOn has a long history in the state of Maine, and that's our secret weapon: an army of MoveOn members who can knock on doors, host house parties, fill phone banks . . . Whatever it takes to get out the vote and win.

Will you chip in $5 a month to support MoveOn's campaign to defeat Susan Collins, end GOP control of the Senate, and defeat Donald Trump in 2020?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

The majority of Maine voters are independents—"unenrolled" with any particular political party.5 For years, Collins convinced independents that she was one of them.

But now the truth will come out—if we can raise the funds to spread the truth. With your help, we'll make sure Maine voters know that Collins:

  • Cast the deciding vote to nominate Kavanaugh, paving the way to end Roe.6
  • Raised more money from Kavanaugh supporters than Mainers.7
  • Voted for Trump's $1.5 trillion tax scam.8

Polls show that Collins is increasingly unpopular and that we can defeat her and end GOP control of the Senate. But only if we get going now. Which is why we're asking:

Will you chip in $5 a month to support MoveOn's campaign to defeat Susan Collins, end GOP control of the Senate, and defeat Donald Trump in 2020?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

FW: Monday was a bad day

Planned Parenthood was forced yesterday to withdraw from the Title X family planning program, a nearly 50-year-old program that provides birth control, STD testing, cancer screenings, and other health care to millions of young, uninsured, and underinsured people across the country.

Hi Eddie—It looks like you recently considered making a donation to help Planned Parenthood and MoveOn fight back against the Trump Gag Rule but didn't complete it. Can you help out?

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump and Mike Pence just took a baseball bat to health care for millions of women.

Planned Parenthood was forced on Monday to withdraw from the Title X family planning program, a nearly 50-year-old program that provides birth control, STD testing, cancer screenings, and other health care to millions of young, uninsured, and underinsured people across the country.1

Planned Parenthood was forced to drop out and forgo millions of dollars each year in federal funds, because earlier this year the Trump administration put in place a new rule—the Trump Gag Rule—that makes it illegal for doctors and other health providers participating in the Title X program to talk with their patients about how and where they can access abortion safely and legally.2

Planned Parenthood is fighting the Trump Gag Rule in court and in Congress. And they need our help.

Will you split a $3 donation between Planned Parenthood's fight to overturn the gag rule in the courts and Congress and MoveOn's campaign to stop these right-wing attacks on access to reproductive health care?

Click here to chip in now.

Title X helps prevent more than 822,000 unintended pregnancies each year.3 It's the nation's only program dedicated to helping people get affordable birth control and other reproductive health care.

The program serves more than 4 million people each year—and fully 40% get services through Planned Parenthood.4

But what now? Planned Parenthood cannot be replaced in the program. In some rural communities, Planned Parenthood is the only reproductive health care provider. And in whole states, like Utah, Planned Parenthood is the only organization that was receiving Title X funds.

Women are already having to drive impossible distances to access abortion. Now, women may be forced to drive hundreds of miles just to get birth control.

It's truly outrageous—and dangerous. It's 2019, not 1919.

Eddie, we have to overturn the Trump Gag Rule either in the courts or in Congress and stop these GOP attacks on our bodies and our ability to control our own lives. Will you chip in $3, or whatever you can afford, now?

Please, click here to split a donation between Planned Parenthood and MoveOn to help us fight back.

Planned Parenthood, the American Medical Association, seven states, and other providers have sued the Trump administration over the Trump Gag Rule.5 And in June, the U.S. House passed a spending bill that blocks it, so we need to pressure the Senate to act.6

Unless we overturn the draconian rule, it will have impacts that reverberate throughout the country and especially in underserved communities, including communities of color and rural communities.

Already, Planned Parenthood is having to end services at a mobile health center in Cleveland, OH, that provides HIV testing, pregnancy tests, and other services due to the loss of Title X funding.7

There have been only three new recipients of Title X grants this year, as the Trump administration forces mainstream health providers out of the program. One of the new providers is a Catholic-affiliated group that provides no contraception—just guidance on the "rhythm method."8

No, no, no.

Will you stand with Planned Parenthood and MoveOn and fight back against these Trump and GOP attacks on women? Join us. Chip in $3—or whatever you can afford.

Thanks for all you do.

Mitch McConnell has problems—big problems.

Mitch McConnell just keeps getting bad news. Another wave of polls has come out showing that McConnell is the #1 most unpopular member of the entire U.S. Senate with his own voters.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Mitch McConnell just keeps getting bad news.

Another wave of polls has come out showing that McConnell is the #1 most unpopular member of the entire U.S. Senate with his own voters.1

News reports say McConnell is privately "fuming" that he's become known as "Moscow Mitch" because of his obstruction on election security.2

And yet, news outlets have just reported that McConnell killed a bill to sanction a Russian company involved in election interference only days after that same company committed to building a factory in McConnell's home state.3

And his campaign sparked another wave of bad press by putting up tombstones with the names of his Democratic opponents the day after the El Paso shooting.4 Meanwhile, his supporters sparked their own controversy posing with a cutout of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and taking photos pretending to attack and molest her.5

I've been talking to my friends at MoveOn, and we agree that we have a real shot at beating McConnell and taking back control of the Senate, but there's one big challenge: Kentucky is not going to be a competitive battleground state in the 2020 presidential election, so MoveOn will need to fund an entirely different array of campaign tactics to build upon McConnell's unpopularity by fueling and supporting the grassroots wave to unseat him—paying for polls and ads, producing hard-hitting videos ... you name it. And they need to do that without taking away resources they've budgeted for the states we need to win to beat Donald Trump and other Republican senators.

Eddie, I believe that MoveOn members have the power to defeat McConnell, take back the Senate, and end Trump's presidency, but I know how much election campaigns like this cost, and MoveOn will need a consistent stream of funds all the way through the election in order to commit to defeating McConnell at the same time they work to end GOP control of the Senate and defeat Trump.

Which is why I'm asking: Will you join me and chip in $5 a month to fuel MoveOn's 2020 election campaign?

Yes, I'll become a monthly donor to help beat Mitch McConnell and end GOP control of the Senate.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

McConnell might be the one Republican in Washington who's even worse than Trump—but just like Trump, he just keeps sinking to new lows.

Take, for instance, his response to the shootings in El Paso and Dayton. The American public is clearly demanding action, and bipartisan legislation to require background checks on gun sales has already passed the House.

The Senate version of the bill is sponsored by Pennsylvania Republican Pat Toomey and conservative West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin. Polls show that majorities of Republican voters support it.6 It's the quintessential example of a consensus bill that the Senate was made for.

But McConnell won't even allow a vote.7

Instead, the day after the shooting, his campaign put up pictures of tombstones with the names of his Democratic opponents, blatantly inciting the kind of political violence the country had just experienced.8

Voters in Kentucky clearly have had it with McConnell. More than 60% of Kentucky voters say "it's time for someone new" in his Senate seat, and his opponent raised a stunning $2.5 million on her first day as a candidate.9

McConnell knows that he's in trouble. That's why he's "fuming" about the "Moscow Mitch" nickname getting so much attention.10 And why his corporate backers are already on the air with TV ads smearing his opponents to try to save him.11

But if MoveOn members step up, MoveOn can fund the campaign operation they need to beat McConnell—without taking resources away from the all-important 2020 presidential election and other key Senate races. MoveOn is already starting to run billboards across Kentucky, funded by MoveOn members, to call him out for inaction in the face of gun violence and white supremacist actions, as well as for his loyalty to big corporations and lobbyists. But there is so much more that MoveOn can do—and must do—if we're to defeat McConnell and other vulnerable Republicans and take back the U.S. Senate.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help make it happen?

Yes, I'll become a monthly donor to beat Mitch McConnell, end GOP control of the Senate, and defeat Donald Trump in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Deliver a message to Walmart: Stop selling guns!

We're hand-delivering messages to Walmarts across the country to get the nation's largest retail gun-dealer to stop selling firearms.

Dear MoveOn member,

Walmart is the largest retail gun dealer in America. That's why protesters gathered outside a Walmart in Florida last week—just a mile from where the Parkland massacre took place last year—to demand Walmart stop selling guns. The protest made headlines across the country—and is part of a growing movement of people who are pushing Walmart to change its policies.

This week, let's keep building that momentum—by hand-delivering letters to Walmarts across the country, demanding they stop selling firearms.

MoveOn members are working with the Walmart Must Act coalition—including Guns Down, Color Of Change, March for Our Lives, Women's March, the American Federation of Teachers, and more—to keep up the pressure on Walmart. Walmart may be the largest retail gun dealer in the country, but we know that it is susceptible to public pressure.

Here's what you can do:
  • Print out a letter at home. (It's provided on the website.)
  • Deliver it to your local customer service counter and say it's a message for the manager.
  • Take a photo or video of yourself delivering it—or have a friend join you—so you can share your experience on social media with the hashtag #WalmartMustAct.
We're seeing people speak out in so many ways—from local op-eds to presidential campaigns to petitions across social media. Let's keep building on this momentum and demand that Walmart Must Act. Just click here to download the letter, get more-detailed instructions, and get started!

Thanks for all you do.

Rename Fifth Avenue in front of Trump Tower: "President Barack H. Obama Avenue"

We request the stretch of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets be renamed "President Barack H. Obama Avenue." Any addresses on that stretch of Fifth Avenue should be changed accordingly.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

More than 100,000 people have already signed this petition, and we're making national headlines. We request the New York City mayor and city council rename a block of Fifth Avenue after the former president who saved our nation from the Great Recession, among many other accomplishments, and whose two terms in office infused the presidency with respect and decency.

We request the stretch of Fifth Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets be renamed "President Barack H. Obama Avenue." Any addresses on that stretch of Fifth Avenue should be changed accordingly.

This change will honor President Obama, but it also means Trump Tower would be located on President Barack H. Obama Avenue.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you for all you do.

Visa

Tell Visa: Do your part to end the bloodshed. Report red flag purchases linked to mass shootings.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Content warning: Gun violence

In the last decade, more than half of the deadliest shootings were financed with credit cards.1 Credit card companies like Visa have the power to stop mass shootings before they start. One simple change—reporting excessive, erratic gun and ammo purchases to law enforcement—could save hundreds of lives.

Tell Visa: Do your part to end the bloodshed. Report red flag purchases linked to mass shootings.

Shooters often spend tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars on guns and ammo in the lead-up to their crimes—wildly unusual behavior that would be easy for Visa's sophisticated software to spot.

And while credit card CEOs claim it's not their job to flag customer purchases, the facts don't back that up. Visa already reports big-ticket transactions with suspected links to fraud, money laundering, terrorism, and other crimes. It would be simple to add mass shootings to that list.

If you've ever gotten a fraud alert from your credit card, then you already know how easy it is for credit card companies to spot and investigate suspicious activity.

You've already shown that you have the power to make companies cut ties with the gun industry. PayPal and Apple Pay block gun sales on their platforms, and United, Hertz, and countless others have ended their NRA discounts.2 Now you can push Visa to save lives too.

Together we can send a powerful message to Visa: Commit to reporting mass shooters' deadly transactions.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

SIGN: Stop the US Open from taking UAE money

The United Arab Emirates is a brutal monarchy that has killed thousands of civilians in Yemen.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

The United Arab Emirates is a brutal monarchy that has killed thousands of civilians in Yemen.1 The monarchy also imprisons human rights activists, opposes labor rights, and discriminates against women. And yet, the US Open has allowed the UAE's Emirates airline to sponsor its tennis championship.

US Open: Reject the sponsorship dollars of the brutal United Arab Emirates monarchy. Say no to UAE's #DictatorDollars.

The UAE monarchy shouldn't be able to abuse and kill thousands while sponsoring glamorous sporting events like the US Open.

Eleven organizations are calling on the US Open and US Tennis Association to drop the UAE and reject the sponsorship dollars of the UAE-owned Emirates airline.2

Thanks!
