I'm worried

2020 has been an excruciating year. But on Tuesday, we could turn the page.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

2020 has been an excruciating year. But on Tuesday, we could turn the page.

I would be lying if I told you I wasn't worried. With our country teetering on the edge between democracy and authoritarianism, more could not be at stake.

The only way out of this mess is to hand Donald Trump a resounding defeat—a defeat so decisive that we leave him zero ground to challenge it—and put Democrats in control of the Senate, ending the Trump-Mitch McConnell nightmare.

Let me cut to the chase: I'm writing to you right now because I'm getting asked nonstop about what people can do to have the most impact in these final days of the election. And one of my main answers is donating to MoveOn, because no organization in America has a better track record of success using cutting-edge strategies to get out the vote and win elections than MoveOn.

With everything on the line and so little time left, will you rush an urgent $3 donation to MoveOn right now, to help them get out the vote in battleground states in these final three days? This is the very last time MoveOn will ask before Election Day.

MoveOn is running the biggest voter turnout campaign in its 22-year history. It's a massive, sophisticated operation, with three core components:

  1. MoveOn is focused on engaging 7 million young people and people of color in battleground states who are often overlooked by the traditional campaigns—rather than trying to win over and turn out the ever-elusive "swing voter," a strategy that has failed Democrats in election cycle after election cycle. These "high-potential voters" can make the difference—if we inspire them to want to vote and then get them to turn out.
  2. MoveOn is pioneering a groundbreaking new approach called "relational organizing" to turn out these high-potential voters. It's based on research showing that voters are much more likely to be persuaded by people they already know than by strangers knocking on their doors. More than 840,000 volunteers are working with MoveOn to get three or more of their friends in battleground states to the polls—and help deliver the margin of victory in those states. The concept is simple, but the potential impact is massive. Data shows that relational organizing can increase voter turnout by as much as 12%.
  3. Everything that MoveOn is doing, from running ads to creating custom videos, is backed by data and analytics. That means, for instance, that before ads are run to large audiences, they are tested to see if they are effective. MoveOn's data and analytics team is top-notch. They are making sure that MoveOn's resources—which come from MoveOn members like you —are well spent.

The bottom line is that I am in awe of the work that MoveOn is doing to mobilize voters in what is the most important election in my lifetime. This is the hard, essential work of winning an election—and winning it with grassroots, people power.

Before time runs out, will you chip in $3 one last time to MoveOn?

It all comes down to this, Mar. We CAN do it—together.

Thanks for all you do.

You are how we win.

We have an important election campaign update for you.

Dear MoveOn member,

MoveOn is in the final stretch of the most powerful election campaign in our 22-year history, and as MoveOn's Electoral Mobilization Director, my job is to make sure that we inspire MoveOn members and voters to not just vote, but to multiply their impact by getting their friends and family to vote too, and ensure a landslide victory.

With only four days left to get out the vote, I wanted to give you an update on all of the work we have done together to make sure we win this election, and share some opportunities to take action together in the final stretch.

Hold onto your seats, because MoveOn members have been knocking it out of the park:

  • Over 850,000 MoveOn volunteers have pledged to get three or more of their friends and family members who live in swing states to vote—and are reaching out to their friends as you read this email. This is huge, because research shows that there's nothing more powerful than a personal conversation with friends and family members about why and how to vote.
  • MoveOn's volunteer Text Team has broken an all-time record by texting 3.9 million voters in a single day this week, to give voters critical information about how to vote and make sure voters are multiplying their impact by getting their friends and family to vote too.
  • MoveOn members have supported and shared Your Vote Is Power, a massive social media campaign with GIFs, memes, art, video ads and celebrity engagement powered by research-tested messaging that has created a culture of voting and inspired young people and people of color to be voters. The campaign has generated nearly 600 million views and counting for its inspiring content.
  • Every day and every night, MoveOn volunteers are leading and participating in virtual phone banks: 3,056 MoveOn volunteers signed up for over 5,000 virtual phone bank shifts with the Biden/Harris campaign to ensure progressive voters are hearing a compelling reason to vote—whether voting early in person, by mail, or on November 3.
  • 5,180 MoveOn members have signed up to be poll workers—helping to set up and close down polling places, issuing ballots, helping people understand how to vote, protecting ballots, and monitoring voting equipment—in critical locations across the country, to help resolve the unprecedented shortage of poll workers created by the pandemic.
  • And together, MoveOn members have donated over $6 million directly to candidates in tight races across the country.

This is how we win. And if we win, I have no doubt that MoveOn members will have played an absolutely vital role in that victory.

MoveOn members like Todd -- click here to watch Todd's video -- who is making calls and mobilizing friends to be voters because LGBTQ+ rights are on the ballot.

MoveOn members like Janet -- click here to watch Janet's video -- who, as the daughter of immigrants, is mobilizing friends to be voters for her family and community's future and for better working conditions for all of us.

MoveOn members like Kenia -- click here to watch Kenia's video -- who is mobilizing friends to be voters for her late mother, who passed away from COVID-19 just months ago.

MoveOn members like you. MoveOn members everywhere. Thank you to each and every one of you who have been a part of this work.

And it's not too late to get involved. No matter how much time you have to give or where you live, there is a meaningful role for you to play as part of the MoveOn community to help Democrats win up and down the ballot. Here's how:

The 2016 election came down to just 79,646 votes. If all MoveOn members like you step up to take action in the next four days, we can win the Electoral College and usher in a landslide victory that is so clear it's undeniable.

In four days, we can kick Trump out of office, end GOP control of the Senate, and expand progressive leadership in the House of Representatives.

In four days, we can make history.

Thanks for all you do.

–Kate, Rahna, Olga, Michael, and the rest of the team

P.S. Win or lose, our work won't be over on Election Day. We're ready to mobilize if Trump and his cronies try to steal the election, and you can join forces with us and other progressive groups across the country to stop them by signing up here.

Republicans are ahead of Democrats in registering new voters

We can stop Trump. We can win. But only if we leave everything on the field in these final, critical days.

Dear MoveOn member,

There is a real and terrifying possibility that Donald Trump can win this race.

If we don't do everything in our power to win, in just five days, we could all hear these terrifying words: "CNN can now project that Donald Trump will win re-election. Joe Biden has called Donald Trump to concede the race."

But it doesn't have to be this way. We can stop Trump. We can win. But only if we leave everything on the field in these final, critical days. So we have an urgent question:

With only five days left and time quickly running out, will you rush a $3 donation to MoveOn right now to get out the vote and prevent Trump and the GOP from winning on Election Day?

This election is down to the wire, and Trump can still win this race if we get complacent. Here's why.

In the battleground states, Republicans are AHEAD of Democrats in registering new voters. Since 2016, the GOP has registered 180,000 more voters than Democrats, and the GOP is performing especially well in two critical swing states: Pennsylvania and Florida.1

And the polls in battleground states are tighter—much tighter—than the national polls. The media is obsessed with national polls that show Biden up by double digits, just like they were in 2016 with polls showing Hillary Clinton way ahead. But in some battleground states, this race is in a dead heat.

Florida? Biden's narrow lead is within the margin of error.2

North Carolina? Biden and Trump are in a statistical tie.3

Georgia? Trump's leading.4

On top of all of this, in a stunning development, Trump has improved his standing among Black and Latino voters, a critical voting bloc that can swing this election.5

And remember, these polls don't take into account all of the disinformation, voter suppression, and dirty tricks that Trump and the GOP will try to pull.

So if you think this election is in the bag ... think again.

Everything—our health care, the Supreme Court, our democracy—all of this and more are on the line in this election. And we need your help to win. With only five days to go, please, chip in $3, or whatever you can, to defeat Trump and the GOP.

This is the fight of our lifetimes. And we can't afford to remain complacent.

That's why MoveOn has

  • mobilized more than 825,000 volunteers to get out the vote;
  • sent tens of millions of text messages to voters in swing states to remind them to head to the polls;
  • blanketed battleground states with TV, radio, and digital ads to defeat Trump and the GOP;
  • recruited thousands of poll workers to ensure voters can safely cast their ballots;
  • and much, much more.

We need to finish this race strong. Right now, just five days left, is not the time to let our foot off the gas. We urgently need your help.

Please, rush a $3 donation to ensure we win this election and end the vile cocktail of hate, racism, Islamophobia, and misogyny that is Trumpism once and for all.

Thanks for all you do.

You may be wondering which candidates need your help the most

I can tell you from personal experience that in races this close—where the winner could be decided by just one or two votes per ZIP Code—every single television ad, every single text message, every single phone call, and every single dollar matters.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Allison Pulliam, and I lead MoveOn's work to flip the Senate.

With only six days to go in this election, I'm emailing you to answer a question that I get asked multiple times a day: Which candidates need my help the most?

While every race is important, I put together a list of the four Democratic candidates in toss-up races that are still too close to call: Sara Gideon in Maine, Cal Cunningham in North Carolina, Steve Bullock in Montana, and Theresa Greenfield in Iowa.

These Democratic candidates are all deadlocked in razor-tight races—but if they win, they will flip the Senate and end Mitch McConnell's cruel reign as Senate majority leader.1

With less than a week to go, these candidates are making the final decisions about where to spend money to turn out voters. So I have an urgent request: Will you rush a last-minute $3 donation to get out the vote and win these critical races? (100% of your donation will be split between the Gideon, Cunningham, Bullock, and Greenfield campaigns.)

Mar, I know you are being bombarded with asks right now—for your money and for your time. You may even be feeling weary. But let me tell you, with only six days to go, now is not the time to take our foot off the gas. The Republicans and their billionaire donors certainly aren't backing down.

If we keep up the fight in these final, critical days, we will win. We will defeat Donald Trump, and we will flip the Senate.

I can tell you from personal experience that in races this close—where the winner could be decided by just one or two votes per ZIP Code—every single television ad, every single text message, every single phone call, and every single dollar matters.

So, please, with mere days left in this election, chip in $3 directly to the Gideon, Cunningham, Bullock, and Greenfield campaigns.

This is the last time in this election cycle that MoveOn will be emailing you to raise money directly for candidates.

With only six days left, please don't sit on the sidelines. You don't want to look back on November 4 and wish you would have done more.

By donating today, you are supporting the candidates who need your help the most, and you are getting the greatest bang for your buck in the 2020 election.

With our very nation on the line, rush a donation to flip the Senate. (100% of your donation will go directly to the Gideon, Cunningham, Bullock, and Greenfield campaigns.)

Thanks for all you do.

–Allison Pulliam

Thank you for your resilience

This is our final opportunity to demonstrate our resilience and resistance.

Dear MoveOn member,

Because this election is so crucial, MoveOn members across the country are engaging their friends and family in conversation about the importance of voting. While speaking to my own best friend from high school, I asked her about what it means for her to vote this year. What she told me is a story of exhaustion and resilience. "Where do I begin?" she said. "I'm a mom who is currently battling COVID-19 while working from home and also holding down homeschooling for my son. I am tired, but I have to do everything in my power to make sure the world is better for my family. That's why I'm voting, volunteering, texting, and talking to everyone I know about this election."

Despite her exhaustion, her illness, her duty to her son and her community—or perhaps because of how clearly it outlines what's at stake in this election—this incredible woman has not stopped fighting for the America she believes in: an America that belongs to all of us.

Mar, this is the final push for all of us to have a chance at this America in this election. Do you have a plan to vote by November 3? Click here to find everything you need, including hours and locations for voting and where to drop off your ballot.

The story my friend tells me is a story I've heard from MoveOn members across the country: resilience and resistance mixed together to render a powerful blossoming of revolutionary actions across all lines of difference. We are showing up with each other, and that is giving us the power to change the story of ourselves and our communities.

When Republicans tried to dismantle the post office, to curb our ability to vote, MoveOn members fought back in droves.1 When they tried to trick us with fake drop boxes we resisted.2 When they tried to disenfranchise us by restricting early voting, we turned out in record numbers.3 When they thought long voting lines would deter us, we danced to pass the time.4

They tried to make it harder for us to vote at every turn but, against all odds, we are showing up. This is because we have a collective dream to be better, stronger, more resilient, and better prepared as a nation to deal with any challenges that come our way.

With one week left, this is our final opportunity to demonstrate our resilience and our resistance. This is our last opportunity to vote and to show up for each other, no matter what curveballs they throw at us. Will you make your plan to vote by November 3?

Election time is not just a time for action; it's also a time for reflection. It's time to evaluate what has happened in the past four years and to enumerate what it is that we want to see changed this time around. Over 60 million Americans have taken their wishes to the ballot box, and now it's time to gather up and to cheer on the rest of us headed to vote by November 3.

If you're one of those 60 million people who've already voted, let's keep the momentum going. Now's the time to keep having conversations with our friends and families to ensure they have what they need to vote.

Share this email with the people you love, tell them why voting is important to you, and watch the video below to be inspired by the spirit of our work.

Thank you for your resilience and your resistance. Thank you for showing up at the polls. Thank you for dancing. For surviving. Thank you for wearing your mask and social distancing in lines. Thank you for homeschooling, caretaking—for texting, calling, volunteering, and for talking to friends and family. Thank you for doing whatever it takes to change our future.

Let's bring this win home together.

Thanks for all you do.

Donald Trump's Supreme Court takeover. And what's next.

Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party have now completed the decades-long conservative project to rig the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party have now completed the decades-long conservative project to rig the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fifty-two GOP senators voted last night to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Amy Coney Barrett—after 62 million people had already voted and with just one week left in an election to select the next president and Senate.1,2

It was the first time in more than 150 years that a justice was confirmed without a single vote from the minority party.3

Amy Coney Barrett—who at her confirmation hearing called the peaceful transfer of power "a political controversy," refusing even to affirm the bedrock principle of American democracy that voters choose their leaders in free and fair elections—was sworn in late last night in a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House.4

The GOP has wrecked the legitimacy of the Supreme Court.

Mar, we cannot let Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party get away with this. We have to fight back by turning out every last voter to defeat Donald Trump by a clear margin, wrest control of the Senate from Mitch McConnell, and get to work reforming the courts and our democratic institutions so they reflect the will of the majority of Americans.

Will you rush a $3 donation to MoveOn right now to help turn out every last Democratic voter in battleground presidential and Senate states?

Amy Coney Barrett was the 220th federal judge whom Trump nominated, McConnell rammed through the Senate confirmation process, and the GOP confirmed. In addition to Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Neil Gorsuch, the total includes 53 circuit court judges—30% of all circuit court judges.5

Since Amy Coney Barrett's hyper-rushed confirmation hearing, we have already learned that Barrett served on the board of a school that rejected same-sex parents and that Barrett's church has a history of sexual abuse of young women that was suppressed by church leaders.6

The impact on American lives will be swift and profound—as the Supreme Court takes up a case that could overturn the Affordable Care Act in just two weeks—and for generations, unless there is court reform.

Mar, this is a huge blow. But we cannot give up. Justice Ginsburg would not have given up. She would have fought back with even more gusto—and so must we.

But we can't do it without you. If ever there was an all-hands-on-deck moment, it is right now.

Will you chip in $3—or whatever you can—now to help turn out enough voters in these final days of the election to end the Trump-McConnell nightmare?

Here's a snapshot of all MoveOn is doing to win this election:

  • Running the largest voter turnout effort in the country that uses "relational organizing"—the fact that voters are much more likely to be persuaded by people they already know than by strangers.7 Our 800,000 volunteers are working to get three or more of their friends in battleground states to the polls—and help deliver the margin of victory in those states. The concept is simple, but the potential impact is massive. Data show that relational organizing can increase voter turnout by as much as 12%.8
  • Sending 4 million text messages PER DAY to voters in swing states to help get them to the polls.
  • Blanketing battleground states with hard-hitting TV, radio, and digital ads to defeat Trump and the GOP.
  • Recruiting thousands of poll workers to ensure voters can safely cast their ballots in person.
  • Preparing to ensure that every last vote is counted.
  • And much, much more.

We can do this, Mar. And we must. Our basic rights, freedom, equality, and the future of American democracy depend on it.

More could not be on the line. Please join us—while there's still time.

Thanks for all you do.

Here's what's at stake

Having Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court through the 2050s and beyond—which is a very real possibility—should be alarming to every American concerned with progress.

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday's confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court is terrifying. There's no way around that, but we have exactly one week to make sure every eligible voter has a plan to vote—and this movement needs your help breaking through the political noise to talk to people one-on-one.

Republican Party leaders once again demonstrated that they're happy to openly embrace their own hypocrisy and destroy the processes and institutions that have grounded our country for hundreds of years—all in order to grab more power for themselves, trample our civil and human rights, and hand over more power to big corporations and the wealthy.

Having Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court through the 2050s and beyond—which is a very real possibility—should be alarming to every American concerned with progress. Amy Coney Barrett is an ideological ultraconservative, and her Supreme Court votes stand to undo decades' worth of work on issues such as reproductive justice, marriage equality, immigrant and workers' rights, and corporate power. Her views on these kinds of issues will likely make her among the most conservative justices in modern Supreme Court history.

We know that appealing to the better nature of Republicans simply does not work. Our only option is to vote them out and reclaim our power and our democracy.

We can't just sit by and let the right wing complete their hostile takeover of our systems of government. We need to act now. Click here to join thousands of volunteers and sign up to phone bank for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, so that we can have a resounding victory in this election once all the votes are counted.

The way we'll start to undo the damage wrought by Republicans' packing our courts is by electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris next week.

And once we do that, we can immediately begin putting pressure on the new administration to embrace far-reaching, substantial court reform. While Justice Barrett is here to stay, we can—and must—rebalance  the Supreme Court to more fairly and democratically represent the will of the American people.

We must also rebalance the federal judiciary more generally. Throughout the final years of Barack Obama's presidency, Mitch McConnell blocked votes on hundreds of federal judiciary seats, holding them empty until a Republican president could take office and fill them. And once Donald Trump won in 2016, he did exactly that. Now, virtually all levels of the federal court system are stacked with far-right, extremist Trump appointees with lifetime terms.

If Republicans continue their undemocratic, corrupt takeover of our courts, there's no telling how regressive our country will get.

That's why we have to elect Joe Biden president and ensure that both the Senate and House are controlled by Democrats, if we want to restore the balance—and integrity—of our courts and our democracy.

Make no mistake: What's at stake is the very future of our democracy, as well as a wide swath of rights that so many have fought for over the years.

That's why we need your help now: Can you commit to a phone banking shift for Biden and Harris? Phone banking is fun, easy, and an effective way to communicate directly with voters in battleground states.

And don't worry if you haven't phone banked before: You'll receive all the training and guidance you need at the link above.

Thanks for all you do.

New York: Vote for Biden and Harris and support the Working Families Party

Can we count on you to commit to voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the Working Families Party line?

Dear MoveOn member,

We all need to cast our votes this year to defeat Trump and his Republican enablers and fuel a massive blue wave to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris with a commanding national popular majority as well as Electoral College victory.

How do you do this? By voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the Working Families Party line on your ballot—whether you're voting in person or by mail. Your vote on the WFP line counts toward Biden and Harris's totals, the same as if you voted on the Democratic line. But it counts extra—because a vote on the WFP line sends a signal that you are voting specifically on the issues the WFP works tirelessly to advance, like affordable housing, unemployment relief, raising the minimum wage, and more. That means, after all of the votes have been counted, your vote has extra impact when it comes to holding our elected officials to the promises and commitments they make during election season.

Can we count on you to vote on the Working Families Party line for Biden and Harris?

Another critical reason to vote on the WFP line is that the WFP needs 130,000 votes to maintain its ballot line—one major source of its progressive power—for the next four years. Maintaining a line on the ballot is crucial, and it means that the WFP has extra power as it pushes a bold, progressive agenda. But recently, New York has made it harder for third parties to maintain ballot access, raising the total votes needed from 50,000 to 130,000!1 That makes the WFP's job harder. But the WFP is familiar with hard work.

In 2018, the WFP helped back a series of progressive challengers to throw out conservative Democrats who had caucused with Republicans—delivering a real Democratic majority in the state Senate. And since then, the New York State Senate has developed into one of the most progressive state legislatures in the country and has passed campaign finance reform laws, gun control regulation, expanded workers' rights, and driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants.2

The WFP is continuing to fight for more funding for our schools, additional rights for immigrants, protections for renters, and for the richest New Yorkers to pay their fair share.

And over the next 14 days, the most critical step you can take to help in these fights in New York is to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the WFP line—whether you vote on Election Day, vote early in person, or are voting by mail.

Please click here to commit to voting WFP in 2020—and make your vote even more powerful!

Thanks for all you do.

Emailing for $3, Mar

Mar, this deadline could be the most important of the entire campaign.

Mar,

Today, I'm reaching out to ask for your help to reach Joe and Kamala's final end-of-month fundraising goal of the election.

If we do our jobs, hit this goal, and win decisively, you won't have to get any more emails asking for money starting on November 4. But until then, we have to be certain they don't miss a single fundraising goal.

Which brings me to my ask for you today: Joe's team set their final end-of-month goal state by state, to reach their nationwide goal of $100 million to close out October and end this month in the strongest position possible to win this election.

So Mar, I hope you'll pitch in $3 right now and be one of the donations they are counting on coming in from New York between now and Saturday.

I meant it when I committed to doing whatever it takes to help win this battle for the soul of our nation. That's why I've hit the campaign trail myself, including a stop in Philadelphia, to make the case to any remaining undecided voters about why our country needs Joe and Kamala.

We've waited four years for this opportunity, the opportunity to put someone our kids can look up to back in the White House. Joe knows what it's like to make some of the toughest personal decisions in the world while still leading with kindness and a respect for humanity. I know, because I saw him do it myself.

Our country urgently needs Joe Biden as our next commander in chief, but his team is going to need a surge of donations before the end of October to reach every last undecided voter. And, Mar, I know firsthand the impact of these final donations to a presidential campaign. With so much on the line, we absolutely cannot allow Joe and Kamala to fall short here. Not now.

That's why I'm personally asking you to donate to this all-important, final end-of-month deadline, Mar—and if we can bring in more donations from New York by October 31 at midnight, I'm hearing Joe and Kamala will be able to hit their final goal of $100 million to end October strong. Can I count on your $3 donation today?

Mar, this deadline could be the most important of the entire campaign. And this campaign is undoubtedly the most important of our lifetime. Our next president will decide what kind of America we leave behind for our children and grandchildren.

So I hope I can count on you to do all you can to help elect Joe. For eight years, he stood by my side in the White House. From my own firsthand experience, I can't think of a better president to face this moment.

The team needs to raise $100 million online before the month ends, so any humble amount you can give goes a long way toward hitting this goal and shows that this team has broad-based support across the country.

Thanks for reading.

–Barack Obama

Something unnerving is happening ...

With just nine days to go in this election, something unnerving is happening.

Dear MoveOn member,

With just nine days to go in this election, something unnerving is happening.

We won't sugarcoat it: In the past few days, our fundraising numbers have taken an unexpected dip.

Mar, if we don't make up our budget gap, it means we won't be able to execute our get-out-the-vote programs to the fullest extent in these most crucial final days. But this news is also troubling because it signals that MoveOn members are getting complacent and think this election is already in the bag.

No, no, no, no, NO! Didn't we learn ANYTHING from 2016?

As the Biden campaign just revealed in a strategy memo: "In the key battleground states where this election will be decided, we remain neck and neck with Donald Trump."1 In fact, in some battleground states, Trump is even doing better than he was four years ago at this point in the election.2

We can win this election. But if, and only if, we all do our part. With mere days to go in this election, will you please step up right now and chip in $3?

As if you needed another reminder why this election is so critical, tomorrow Senate Republicans will vote to install Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court—locking in a far-right 6-3 majority that could wreak havoc on our rights and communities.3

Is it despicable that the GOP is installing an extremist judge on the Supreme Court through a hypocritical and illegitimate confirmation process? Yes—but what else did we expect from Mitch McConnell?

The sad truth is that Democrats have little power to stop Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation.4

But you know what we CAN do? We can win this election. And we can make Trump, McConnell, and the entire GOP pay at the ballot box.

So we're coming to you with an urgent request: Will you rush a $3 donation right now to ensure we defeat Trump and the GOP?

Thankfully, this entire year, we've worked hard to budget wisely and spend tactically, so MoveOn remains in a strong financial position. But the fact is that with only nine days to go, now is not the time to sit back and take our foot off the gas.

Here's a reality check for people who think Trump will be easy to beat in nine days.

Only two incumbent presidents have been defeated for re-election since World War II. And shockingly, Trump is doing better among Black and Latino voters compared to 2016—and these are the voters who will decide this election in some battleground states.5

As we know, even small variations in turnout or support can have monumental consequences in the outcome of an election. Which means we need to do everything in our power to win.

So, please remember: We cannot take this election for granted. If we do, we will lose. Given the state of our economy, not everyone is in a position to contribute, but if you can, will you chip in $3 to power us to victory?

Thanks for all you do.

–Kelly, Emily, Oscar, Manny, and the rest of the team

P.S. Our records show that you haven't yet contributed to MoveOn in 2020 to defeat Trump and flip the Senate. With only days left to win this election, you don't have much time to chip in. Will you make your first contribution today?

A profound show of contempt

On Monday, Republican Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Steve Daines of Montana will go to the Senate floor and—in a profound show of contempt for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senate norms, and voters everywhere—vote to confirm ultraconservative Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dear MoveOn member,

Tomorrow, Republican Senators Joni Ernst of Iowa and Steve Daines of Montana will go to the Senate floor and—in a profound show of contempt for Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Senate norms, and voters everywhere—vote to confirm ultraconservative Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

It will be done: They will lock in a 6-3 far-right majority on the nation's highest court.

Here's the thing: These two senators are locked in two of the tightest re-election races in the country, with the Iowa race now considered "the race likeliest to decide Senate control."1,2

We have to fight back, Mar. Justice Ginsburg never gave up, nor can we.

In these razor-tight races, it's going to take all of us coming together to hold Joni Ernst and Steve Daines accountable and defeat them at the ballot box. And if we're successful, we'll almost surely end Mitch McConnell's cynical and devastating reign as the Senate majority leader.

Please, rush a $3 donation now, split between Democratic Senate candidates Theresa Greenfield in Iowa and Steve Bullock in Montana. Help them get out the vote in these final ten days. 100% of your contribution will go directly to their campaigns.

Democrat Theresa Greenfield is a "proud farm kid" who worked her way through community college, became a community planner, and now heads up a small business.3

Her first husband was a union electrician who died tragically on the job. She had a 13-month-old at the time and was pregnant. Social Security helped save her family—and now she wants to go to Washington to fight to protect it.

Greenfield also believes deeply in public education and affordable health care for all. And she wants to take away corporate lobbyists' loopholes and special tax breaks and give the breaks to workers instead.

Greenfield is neck and neck in the polls with Joni Ernst.4 But with only 10 days left to vote, she's getting outspent by Ernst and the GOP's billionaire backers.

We are on an absolutely urgent time crunch, Mar. Will you chip in $3 right now to defeat Joni Ernst and Steve Daines, flip these critical seats, and take the Senate gavel from Mitch McConnell? 100% of your contribution will go directly to their campaigns.

Steve Bullock is the popular two-term governor of Montana who expanded Medicaid, fought to end the corrupting influence of money in politics, and protected public lands. Before serving in public office, Bullock was a labor lawyer and led a successful state initiative to raise the minimum wage.5

The race could be decided by just a few thousand votes, and Bullock's path to victory is turning out union workers and Native Americans.6 But he needs our help to do it.

Mar, we have to hold Republicans Joni Ernst and Steve Daines accountable for their outrageous power grab that threatens so much—our health care, our freedoms, and the fight for justice for Black people, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ community ... for all of us and for generations to come.

Chip in $3 now, split between Theresa Greenfield and Steve Bullock's campaigns and help hand the GOP a resounding defeat.

Thanks for all you do.

Where your donation is most needed right now

Mar, we can do this. A new Senate is within reach. The American people are ready to end the Trump nightmare. But this is it.

Dear MoveOn member,

With 10 days to go, we have a historic chance to defeat Donald Trump and take back the Senate in a blue wave that will change America forever.

But right now, there are three Democratic Senate candidates locked in tight races who haven't raised enough money to fully fund their campaign plan for the final push: Steve Bullock in Montana, Mike Espy in Mississippi, and Raphael Warnock in Georgia.

I know that you've been asked a lot, but these three races could all decide control of the U.S. Senate. And we must be firing on all cylinders.

It's go time. Will you rush a $3 donation RIGHT NOW to help push Steve Bullock, Mike Espy, and Raphael Warnock over the top? (Please, give as much as you can. Your donation will be split evenly between them.)

I know that so many of you want to donate to take back the Senate but aren't sure which candidates really need your money right now. It's the #1 question I hear from Democrats these days: "Where is my donation MOST needed right now?"

So here is some information:

  • In Montana, Governor Steve Bullock is TIED in the latest poll.1
  • In Mississippi, former Congressman Mike Espy is just 1 point down.2
  • And in Georgia, Rev. Raphael Warnock, the lifelong civil rights leader and pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, the former pulpit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., leads a three-way race that is headed for a December runoff that could decide control of the Senate.3

Steve, Mike, and the Reverend have all run incredible campaigns. And even in red states, people are fed up with Trump and Mitch McConnell.

Right now, every one of these campaigns is making final spending decisions about ad buys and get-out-the-vote mobilizations. In another week, it will be too late. The spending decisions will be locked in, the ad space will all be reserved, and your donation will have much less impact.

Mar, we can do this. A new Senate is within reach. The American people are ready to end the Trump nightmare. But this is it. Please chip in whatever you can.

Donate $3 to help Steve Bullock, Mike Espy, and Raphael Warnock finish strong and take back the Senate. Your donation will be split evenly between them.

Thanks for all you do.

–Cory Booker

No confirmation before inauguration

Through this illegitimate process, Republicans have sought to confirm a judge whose views would pull the Supreme Court further toward right-wing extremism and turn the clock back on justice and freedom by decades.

Dear MoveOn member,

On Monday, Republican senators will ram through a final vote to confirm right-wing judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat on the Supreme Court.

This is unconscionable. The GOP is forcing this vote eight days before Election Day, when more than 50 million Americans will have already cast their votes, when Republican senators have refused to spend any time or energy to pass the HEROES Act to provide the necessary economic and health relief for people suffering during the pandemic, and when the impeached president has already shown a total disregard for the Constitution.

Through this illegitimate process, Republicans have sought to confirm a judge whose views would pull the Supreme Court further toward right-wing extremism and turn the clock back on justice and freedom by decades. A lifelong ultraconservative who is pro-corporations and anti-voters, Barrett has shown herself to be more than willing to be that judge, to attack and dismantle fundamental rights.

Here are five things we learned from the hearings—and from Barrett's own published commentary—that Americans must know as we cast our votes over the next 10 days; take action to kick Trump, McConnell, and their cronies out of office; and prepare to rebalance the judicial system under a new president:

  1. She'd fulfill Trump's wish to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

  2. She'd be the death knell for the rights guaranteed under Roe v. Wade.

  3. She'd seek to end marriage equality.

  4. She'd be a decisive vote against voting rights.

  5. Her pro-corporate history would give huge corporations even more power and individuals even less when it comes to climate, privacy, and consumer rights.

We need to meet this right-wing power grab with a people-powered movement to return power to the people, which is why we need to do everything possible to get out the vote, fuel a blue wave that will flip the White House and Senate, and send a clear message rejecting Republican politics and empowering Democrats to pursue a progressive agenda across all three branches of government. Can we count on you to become a MoveOn Vote Mobilizer and help organize your friends, family, colleagues, classmates, and community members?

On Thursday, MoveOn members helped deliver 3.2 million petition signatures to Republican senators, calling on them to wait until after the inauguration to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat. We joined with Daily Kos, the Leadership Conference, and the #OurCourt coalition for this delivery outside, at the same time as Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee broke committee rules to advance Barrett to the full Senate for confirmation—without a single Democrat present.

Republicans have used every bit of power they have to ram this right-wing extremist nominee through this illegitimate process. We need to make sure they lose. They need to know that we understand what this vote is—and that if we can't convince them to hit the brakes on this attack on health care, abortion rights, marriage equality, checks on corporate power, and democracy itself, we'll make sure they pay for it at the ballot box.

Sign up today to get out the vote with MoveOn. We'll help you identify ways you can help your friends and family in key states make sure they have a plan to vote, their votes are counted, and their voices are heard.

Let's do everything we can to ensure our senators know we will hold them accountable if they don't stop Trump and McConnell from stealing this Supreme Court seat.

Thanks for all you do.

–Jenn, Casey, Oscar, Justin, and the rest of the team

P.S. Watch MoveOn Executive Director Rahna Epting deliver an impassioned speech at Thursday's rally and petition delivery, just steps from the U.S. Capitol and the Supreme Court.
