Sign now: Medicare for All!

Add your name as a Citizen Co-sponsor to the universal health care bill I am introducing today.

Dear MoveOn members,

Today is a historic day. Along with 15 co-sponsors—Tammy Baldwin, Richard Blumenthal, Cory Booker, Al Franken, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Martin Heinrich, Mazie Hirono, Patrick Leahy, Ed Markey, Jeff Merkley, Brian Schatz, Tom Udall, Elizabeth Warren, and Sheldon Whitehouse—I am proud to introduce Medicare for All, single-payer health care legislation in the U.S. Senate. Today we begin the struggle to transform our dysfunctional health care system and make health care in the United State a right, not a privilege.

Please add your name as a Citizen Co-sponsor of my Medicare for All, single-payer health care bill. Let's make it clear that we're in this together and that you will help us educate and organize at the grassroots level. That's how we win.

The insurance companies, the drug companies, and Wall Street won’t like this legislation. They will try to make words like "NATIONAL HEALTH CARE" sound scary.

They will spend huge amounts of money in lobbying and campaign contributions to defeat this legislation and maintain a system in which they make hundreds of billions a year in profit, while ordinary people suffer.

Enough is enough! Now is the time for us to take them on, join every other industrialized country on earth, and guarantee quality health care to every man, woman, and child in our country.

The American people are with us on this issue. They understand that it is absurd that we spend almost twice as much per capita on health care as any other country and that we pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs. They also know that we already have a very popular and effective single-payer system in this country. It's called Medicare, and it has succeeded in providing near-universal coverage to Americans over the age of 65. It is time to expand Medicare to all.

Let's be honest. Taking on the medical-industrial complex won't be easy. These powerful special interests have unlimited sums of money to spend against us and will have the support of much of the corporate media and the many politicians they helped elect.

The truth is that we will only successfully transform our health care system is when we transform our political system. The two struggles go together. We will succeed when we involve millions of people in unprecedented political activity who are prepared to stand up and fight for a government that represents all of us, not just greedy powerful corporate interests. In other words, we need a political revolution in this country.

Please add your name as a Citizen Co-sponsor of my Medicare for All, single-payer health care bill. Let's make it clear that we're in this together and that you will help us educate and organize at the grassroots level. That's how we win.

Medicare for All means that Americans will no longer hesitate about going to the doctor because they can't afford the cost. It will mean that a hospital stay will not bankrupt us or leave us deeply in debt. It will mean that we can go to the doctor we want, not just one in our particular plan. It will mean that we will no longer be spending enormous amounts of time filling out complicated forms and arguing with insurance companies as to whether or not we have the coverage we paid for. It will mean that we will be able to get the prescription drugs we need at a price we can afford. It will mean that middle class families will not have to spend 20 or 30 percent of their incomes on health care.

At a time when we have hundreds of separate individual health care plans, a Medicare for All, single-payer health care system would save many billions a year in administrative costs. It would allow our businesses to be able to better compete against companies around the world that don't have to worry about the cost of providing health care to their employees. It would mean that workers would no longer have to stay in jobs they dislike, simply because they receive decent health care benefits.

The time is now to address one of the great crises our nation faces. It is not acceptable that 28 million Americans have no health insurance and that even more are under-insured with high co-payments and deductibles. The time is now for a Medicare for All, single payer system. Health care must be a right, not a privilege.

Before I introduce my legislation, let me know that you’re with me. Let me know that you're prepared to join the struggle.

Please add your name as a Citizen Co-Sponsor of my Medicare for All, single-payer health care bill.

In solidarity,

–Bernie Sanders

Equifax

Click here to hold Equifax accountable and to demand that Equifax's CEO offer a free, lifetime credit-monitoring service to those who are impacted by the company's inadequate security.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Credit-reporting giant Equifax has just disclosed that, in the summer of 2017, hackers gained access to the personal information of 143 million of its consumers. The hackers obtained names, Social Security numbers, birthdates, addresses, and, in some cases, even credit card information.1

Click here to hold Equifax accountable and to demand that Equifax's CEO offer a free, lifetime credit-monitoring service to those who are impacted by the company's inadequate security.

Equifax was entrusted with consumers' personal information, including Social Security numbers and other sensitive data, but the company has broken that trust by having a weak data security system. Equifax's response to the cyberattack has been to offer a free, one-year credit-monitoring service, which provides no guarantee that those who are impacted will not still be affected after one year. We demand that you, as Equifax's CEO, offer a free, lifetime credit-monitoring service to those who are impacted by Equifax's inadequate security.

Equifax's response to this cyberattack is appalling. The company is only offering a free, one-year credit-monitoring service and then it gets to profit from its despicable behavior by offering the service for a fee.2

Equifax needs to be held accountable for their actions; that's why the company needs to provide an unlimited, free credit-monitoring service to all those who are impacted by the recent security breach.

Thanks!

Should MoveOn support this petition?

Dear MoveOn member,

A MoveOn member named Wayne Hsiung recently created a petition on our public petition website entitled "Attorney General Sessions: Stop the Hunt for Baby Lily!"–and we'd like to know what you think of it.

The petition is addressed to Jeff Sessions, Attorney General of the United States, and reads:

Call for an end to FBI raids and intimidation of animal rescues, and stop the hunt for Lily the piglet! #ProtectLily

Sign Wayne's petition.

Here's what Wayne wrote about it:

FBI agents are raiding animal sanctuaries with search warrants in a search for a baby pig rescued from a factory farm. This is not just deeply immoral - we have a duty to help animals who are being abused - but an incredible waste of government resources, in a time that our nation is in crisis due to natural disasters. We're asking Attorney General Sessions to instruct the Utah US Attorney and FBI offices to stop the harassment of animal rescuers, call off the hunt for Lily, and prosecute animal abusing corporations!

Can you click to let us know what you think?

I want to sign this petition.

I don't think MoveOn should support this petition.

We'll decide whether to send this petition out to additional MoveOn members in your area based on your feedback.

In case you haven't heard about it, MoveOn's petition site allows anyone to start an online petition and share it with friends and neighbors to build support for their cause.

Thanks for all you do.

Signature still needed re: DACA

Click here to sign the emergency petition: 800,000 youth need your help urgently.

Hi Eddie—

This Tuesday, I'll be in Washington, D.C., to personally deliver nearly 200,000 signatures of MoveOn members who have signed MoveOn's petition defending DACA and supporting a clean Dream Act—as part of a delivery of one million signatures from the organization I work for, United We Dream, MoveOn, and other progressive groups. Before I go, I want to make sure that you have the chance to add your name.

Since Donald Trump declared he'd end DACA, which provides protections for 800,000 immigrants who came to America as children, I've been frightened. This decision affects me and my family; DACA has allowed me to work, build my life in America, and contribute to my community.

But I've also been inspired by the national surge of activism to defend DACA and to call on Congress to pass a clean Dream Act immediately, to protect 800,000 people, including myself, from deportation.

Together, we'll win this fight.

Emergency petition: 800,000 youth need your help urgently!

Congress must deliver a clean, stand-alone DREAM Act to provide legal protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants so cruelly impacted by the Trump administration's decision to end the popular Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump just put more than 800,000 immigrant youth at risk by ending the popular Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.1

Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke said in a statement that no people currently on DACA will be affected for six months "so Congress can have time to deliver on appropriate legislative solutions."2 That's why we need to reach lawmakers immediately.

Click here to sign our emergency petition: Demand that Congress deliver a clean, stand-alone DREAM Act to provide legal protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants.

DACA has protected young people who came to this country as children and have deep roots in our communities. Now, they are facing an uncertain future because of Trump's callous plan.

The politics—not just the morality—are on our side. We can't let this opportunity to pass bipartisan legislation to protect immigrant youth slip away.

Trump is facing fierce resistance from immigrants, their families and allies, business leaders, and municipal leaders across the country.3,4,5 And now some Republicans—including House Speaker Paul Ryan—are starting to speak out.6

But speaking out is not enough. Congress must act.

Will you sign and share our emergency petition and stand up for 800,000 immigrant youth? Congress must use its power to stop Trump—now.

Immigration arrests have increased 38% in Trump's first six months in office, with more than half a million people in detention centers awaiting immigration hearings.7 These arrests and deportations rip families and communities apart, and Trump continues to use inflammatory, anti-immigrant rhetoric that is being repeated across the country.

Every member of Congress should act swiftly to pass a clean, stand-alone DREAM Act. Inaction or opposition from members of Congress is unacceptable and will be viewed as support for Trump’s cruel ending of DACA.

And any bill that uses immigrant youth as bargaining chips—putting more deportation agents on the streets to round up and jail Dreamers' parents, friends, family members or funding Trump's wasteful border wall—is a non-starter. Congress must reject those bills.

Only a clean, stand-alone DREAM Act will do. We need courageous action by Congress to counter Trump's cowardice.

Hurry! Click here to add your name to the petition demanding that Congress take swift action, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks for all you do.

DACA (Call Sen. Schumer now)

Join the push for Congress to pass the DREAM Act!

Dear MoveOn member,

On Tuesday, Donald Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions, announced the end of the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program, which provides protections to immigrants who came to America in their youth and made their lives here.1

Now 800,000 immigrant Americans who work, study, and live across the country need your help: They could face deportation when DACA expires—unless Congress acts.2

Can you call Senator Charles E. Schumer today and ask him to rally other lawmakers to support a clean, strong Dream Act to protect 800,000 young people immediately—and to say no to more money for Trump's harmful agenda, including more ICE boots on the ground, detention beds, and border walls?

Here's where to call:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542

Click here for a sample call script and to report how your call went!

Members of both parties in both houses of Congress and a majority of the American public support the Dream Act, which would offer protections and the path to full citizenship to these young people.3 Many Democrats have already come out in favor of an immediate vote—and a number of Republicans have expressed that they'd like to see it pass.

But leading Democrats, including Dick Durbin and Chuck Schumer, who were lead sponsors of the Senate bill, and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi need to hear from us—they need to know that we've got their backs to push hard for the Dream Act immediately and that their constituents won't tolerate delays or halfway measures.

Already, there is talk of Republicans linking a Dream Act to funding for Trump's border wall or to even more funding for an aggressive deportation force.4 It is horrendous to imagine exacting such a trade to protect 800,000 immigrants—and Congress needs to know we won't stand for it.

That's why we demand a clean Dream Act ASAP.

Call now, then share how it went:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542

The resistance has stopped much of Trump's agenda so far—and now, as Congress returns from recess, our representatives need to know that defending America's immigrant communities is the next big, urgent, critical fight for the resistance and for all Americans of goodwill.

Call now—and keep calling.

Thanks for all you do.

Trump is in full retreat

Just 24 hours ago, it looked like DACA might be history. But now, believe it or not, we have a chance to not just save DACA, but make it permanent.

Dear MoveOn member,

Just 24 hours ago, it looked like DACA might be history.

But now, believe it or not, we have a chance to not just save DACA, but make it permanent.

Here's the deal: On Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that DACA would be terminated in just six months, and that 800,000 young people who were brought to the U.S. as children—and who have built full lives as Americans—would face deportation. Then, last night, in the face of a massive public backlash, Donald Trump started to backtrack.1

He called on Congress to "legalize DACA"—and said that if Congress fails to do so, he'd revisit the issue.2 Now, Republicans in Congress who had previously opposed deporting Dreamers are suddenly on the spot to take action. And here's the thing: if you add up all of the Democrats and Republicans who had previously endorsed legislation to legalize DACA, we're only five House votes short of getting this done.

This could be the biggest positive progressive victory since Trump became president, and we're going big. We will work relentlessly with our partners at immigrant-led organizations to make sure that 800,000 young people are not faced with the horrors of mass deportation.

Will you chip in $3 to help launch a major push to make DACA the law of the land?

The fundamental reason why we can win is because the public is overwhelmingly on our side. Polls show that 76% of Americans, including 69% of Republicans, back legal status for Dreamers.3

In the Senate, Republicans Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, and Lisa Murkowski co-sponsored a bill to codify DACA. Republican Thom Tillis supports a similar bill. Eight other Republican senators voted for the so-called Gang of Eight bill that went even further than DACA. Add to them the 48 Democrats ... that's 60 senators.

In the House, we need 218 votes, and there are 222 representatives who have voted for or co-sponsored pro-DACA legislation.4 And then there are the Republicans from districts that Trump lost who had not supported DACA before, but will be under enormous pressure to support it now.

Bottom line? The votes are there if we can mobilize enough support to overcome the opposition of the far-right, nativist wing of the Republican Party and pass a clean Dream Act bill that saves DACA—without putting more deportation agents on the streets; rounding up and jailing Dreamers' parents, friends, or family members; or funding Trump's wasteful border wall.

If we can raise the funds, we will work with immigrant youth-led groups to:

  • Flood Republicans with constituent phone calls. We'll bring back the record-shattering call program that helped us make hundreds of thousands of phone calls to Congress in the fight against Trumpcare. Our program uses email, text messages, phone calls, and a volunteer-led, person-to-person text messaging team to reach millions of people around the country.
  • Produce videos and run online ads. We're gearing up to produce ads targeting vulnerable swing Republicans who have substantial Latino populations in their districts and/or whose districts lean more progressive—but have not yet come out in support of the Dream Act.
  • Fly banner-toting airplanes in key districts. We'll fly airplanes in the home districts of key Republicans, making sure they don't miss our message and garnering news coverage.

Will you chip in $3 to help launch a major push to make DACA a permanent fix for Dreamers—and secure the first proactive progressive victory under Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in.

Thanks for all you do.

And to do it we need your ongoing support, now more than ever. Will you stand with us?
