Add your name: I stand with Target vs. discrimination

Target is under attack for standing up for transgender rights. Can you add your name to stand with Target in its fair treatment of all of our citizens?

Dear MoveOn member,

The American Family Association, an ultra-right-wing hate group, is attacking Target for adopting a non-discriminatory bathroom policy that keeps transgender customers safe from harassment. More than half a million people have pledged to boycott Target until Target repeals this much-needed policy.1 We must speak louder than this hate. Can you join me in pledging to stand with Target in support of transgender rights? Click here to sign the petition, which says:

I pledge to support Target and any other business that stands up for transgender rights and accommodates transgender people in their restroom use.

Target recently posted on its blog, "We welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity... Everyone deserves to feel like they belong."2

We need to stand up for transgender people and stand up for those who support transgender people. The AFA pledge to boycott Target currently has over 600,000 signatures. Let us show Target that we stand with them for fair treatment of all of our citizens.

As the late Senator Paul Wellstone said, "we all do better when we all do better."

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

—Douglas Miller

Mickey Mouse-shaped solar farm

Even Disney World is going solar. Find out why solar is the fastest-growing energy source in the U.S. and could work well for you.

Dear MoveOn member,

Solar power is so mainstream that last week a giant Mickey Mouse-shaped solar farm starting powering Walt Disney World.1

It's near Epcot Center, and the plant produces enough energy to power 1,000 homes.

Surprised Disney World is going solar? You shouldn't be, because solar is the fastest-growing energy source in America, and it's now cost competitive with fossil fuels in many places across the country.2

If you've ever considered going solar, we want to help. MoveOn has partnered with an innovative solar company, Sungevity, that makes going solar easy for homeowners.

Here's how it works: If you sign up for information, Sungevity will call you and walk you through the options, based on satellite mapping of your home and information about your energy use. They handle all of the details and have different financing options, including 0% down.

Click here now to connect to Sungevity and see if solar panels are right for your home. If you make the switch via MoveOn, Sungevity will give you a $750 discount on your solar system.

Sungevity designs, installs, helps finance, and manages solar systems. They help figure out a way for your family to go solar, reduce your impact on the environment, and quite possibly save money at the same time.

And by going solar with Sungevity, you'd also support MoveOn's campaigns for clean energy and to fight climate change, because Sungevity would put $750 into our campaign work. Sungevity is a company that gives back. They've raised more than $1.5 million to support their nonprofit partners, which now include MoveOn.3

Learn more today about going solar. Sungevity will give you a $750 discount on your solar system if you switch via MoveOn.

Thanks for all you do.

Imagine Bernie winning tonight (then help make it happen!)

Bernie is authentic. He's the same person today that he's been his whole life

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear MoveOn member,

Bernie Sanders awakened something powerful in me—and the political revolution sweeping the country shows I’m not the only one. That’s why I’m doing everything I can to make sure Bernie wins in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Connecticut in today's Democratic primaries. Will you join me? Click here to make calls to voters in these states today.

Bernie is authentic. He’s the same person today that he’s been his whole life, fighting for the little guy from Brooklyn to Burlington to the halls of the U.S. Senate. Bernie is against fracking, a dangerous practice that could devastate communities like the one where I live in upstate New York. Bernie is out on the picket line with workers fighting for their rights. Did you see him out there standing with striking Verizon workers last week? Incredible.

Bernie keeps defying the odds and upending the establishment—and if we all play our role, this political revolution will only keep getting bigger.

Will you join me in talking to voters in today's primary states by making calls from your home right now?

There’s a crisis in the American political system, and too many people have given up.  But giving up is exactly what the bad guys want us to do.

Instead, with Bernie we’re waging a powerful movement, showing it’s possible to take care of each other, and for politicians and government and all of us to have a role. If we all do our part, we can carry the load together. That’s how we make change today.

Let’s prove the insiders wrong this week and show that we haven’t given up on our political system. Because it’s not about Bernie or me, it’s about us.

In solidarity,

—Mark Ruffalo

Demand that the Treasury Department protect retiree pensions

Pensions are under attack: Hundreds of thousands of retirees may lose up to 70% of their pensions. Call on the U.S. Treasury Department to protect—not cut—workers' pensions.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Joellen Leavelle of the organization Pension Rights Center, and I started a petition to the U.S. Treasury Department, which says:

Please reject the Central States Pension Fund's application to cut retiree pensions. If allowed, these pension cuts would be catastrophic to individuals and their families, and could lead to cuts in other severely underfunded multiemployer pension plans—affecting more than a million people. These retirees fear they will lose their homes, won't be able to pay for medicine, and won't be able to support their families.

The requested cuts, allowed by the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014, are extreme, ill-conceived, and won't solve the problems faced by Central States and other severely underfunded multiemployer plans. We call on the Treasury Department to reject the application and to work with Congress toward a bipartisan solution to fix underfunded multiemployer plans while preserving pension promises to workers, retirees, and their families.

Late last year, Central States Pension Fund retirees, widows, and spouses were notified that their hard-earned pensions might be slashed by as much as 70%.1

These proposed cuts are made possible by the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014, a law that torpedoes 40 years of established federal private pension law and could ultimately impact millions of American workers and their families.2

Between now and May 7, the Treasury Department is expected to rule on Central States' dangerous proposal. Please stand with retired truck drivers, dock workers, office workers, spouses, widows and others who could be affected by the law by urging the Treasury Department to reject the unfair and ill-conceived cuts proposed by the Central States Pension Fund.

If these pension cuts are approved, hundreds of thousands of lives will be affected, setting a dangerous precedent for future cuts in other multiemployer plans, which would affect more than a million people.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

He's one of us

Bernie Sanders is my choice, because he's the only candidate who has called for a national fracking ban.

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear MoveOn member,

The climate change and anti-fracking movement's have only one choice in this election: Bernie Sanders.

For the past eight years, I’ve been part of a growing movement of “fractivists” across the nation who are engaging in the political revolution that Bernie talks about. We’ve been taking action because families who live near fracking wells are suffering from contaminated water, skin and respiratory problems, and, in some cases, seeing tap water that actually catches on fire.

We know that fracked gas is the worst possible fuel that we can develop for the climate, rivaling even dirty coal in greenhouse gas emissions. We’ve been taking to the streets and refusing to back down, because we know that the future of our planet is at stake.

Bernie exemplifies our movement’s values of telling the truth and sticking with the science, and he is not beholden to the corporate interests that try to silence those who speak out. Bernie Sanders is my choice, because she's the only candidate who has called for a national fracking ban, he has correctly identified climate change as the biggest national security threat to the United State's, and he doesn't have a Super PAC. In other words, he is one of us.

Bernie's campaign has set a huge goal of making 3.5 million calls to voters before next Tuesday, when voters in five more states go to the polls. Will you sign up to call voters for Bernie this weekend so that we can elect a president who will take on climate change and ban fracking?

The climate change and anti-fracking movements could be the difference in this election. It’s on us, and now we’ve got to get out there and do everything we can to make sure that Bernie wins the Democratic nomination and presidency.

For so long, we’ve been been crying out for a political leader with a chance of winning the presidency to say the kinds of things that Bernie is saying on the national stage—so now it’s our turn to get behind him.

Sign up to call voters for Bernie this weekend as we head into critical primary elections in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

Whether this will be your first call or your 500th, please join me in signing up to help Bernie meet his goal of 3.5 million calls to voters this weekend. We've seen what's possible when we join together in actions big and small, and this is our moment to make it happen!

Thank you,

—Josh Fox

Big news on marijuana

The Drug Enforcement Agency will soon consider whether to reclassify marijuana and remove it from the Schedule 1 list. Tell the DEA to decriminalize marijuana and open it to medicinal research.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Drug Enforcement Administration just announced that they'll soon consider whether to reclassify marijuana and remove it from its Schedule 1 "dangerous drugs" category.1 Will you join me in calling to decriminalize marijuana? Click here to sign the petition to President Barack Obama, which says:

If the DEA doesn't act, issue an Executive Order to remove the Schedule 1 classification from marijuana and decriminalize this natural herb.

There are well over 100 scientific studies showing definitive benefits of medical marijuana pertaining to pain management, sleep management, anger management, anxiety disorders, seizures, cancer, and other ailments.2

Decriminalizing marijuana is the right thing to do, and it is necessary to do. We must end the destruction of hundreds of thousands of young lives by criminalizing them for possessing a harmless, natural substance.

Thanks!

FW: The beginning of the end of Republican obstruction (Supreme Court)

The Republicans are turning one of the most solemn and consequential decisions that U.S. senators make into a partisan circus. It's utterly unprecedented. And we simply can't let them get away with it.

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw my message about MoveOn's powerful campaign to take on the Republican Supreme Court blockade. Can you chip in $3, and help MoveOn reach its $150,000 goal?

Dear MoveOn member,

On Thursday, I met with Chief Judge Merrick Garland, President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.

And I'm feeling optimistic right now, because I just heard from my friends at MoveOn about their new, bold strategy to break the Republican blockade on his nomination.

You see, they have their eye on one senator who's at the center of the Supreme Court fight. And they have a plan that I really think could work to bring that senator around—and start a domino effect that leads to hearings and an up-or-down vote on President Obama's nomination of Judge Garland.

To make it work, MoveOn is going to launch a powerful campaign targeting that one Senate Republican. But they need to raise $150,000 by Tuesday to pull it off. Can you help out?

Yes, I’ll chip in $3 to help make Republicans do their job on the Supreme Court.

The GOP is right: The American people should have a voice in the selection of the next U.S. Supreme Court justice. In fact, we did—when President Obama won the 2012 election by five million votes.

The Constitution says that the president nominates justices to the Supreme Court, with the advice and consent of the Senate. Nowhere does it say "...except when there's a year left in the term of a Democratic president."

The Republicans are turning one of the most solemn and consequential decisions that U.S. senators make into a partisan circus. It's utterly unprecedented. And we simply can't let them get away with it.

That's why I'm excited about MoveOn's campaign to put an end to Republican obstruction on the Supreme Court. But we need your help to make it work.

Click here right now to chip in $3 to help MoveOn launch the campaign and end Republican obstruction on the Supreme Court.

One Republican senator even admitted that he’d support Judge Garland if he had been nominated by a Republican president—just not this president.1 That’s an insult to President Obama, to the Constitution, and to the American people.

MoveOn's big, new campaign could make a big difference. Help make it possible by chipping in $3 now.

Thanks for all you do.

Bernie is one of us

I was honored to introduce Bernie Sanders to voters at a rally in Long Island City last night.

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Today is the New York primary—and New Yorkers are already turning out in droves to support Bernie Sanders for president (it's going to be a close race, and if you haven't yet voted, stop reading and get to the polls by 9 p.m.!). And I just want to take a moment to share why I care so much about today's election.

I’m in New York this week because of my two passions. As an actor and producer, I’ve been serving as a judge at the Tribeca Film Festival. As a citizen, I was honored to introduce Bernie Sanders to voters at a rally in Long Island City last night. Standing alongside other Bernie supporters, I could feel the electricity in the airthe sense that anything is possible.

These two sides of my life are actually connected through my political activism—my interest in social justice and civil rights led me to my career as an actor. I’ve just released a short video to share my story and explain how Bernie and I draw inspiration from Martin Luther King, Jr. After you vote today, will you watch and share it to encourage your friends to vote as well?

Can you watch and share my new video that explains how we're creating a political revolution?

Bernie stands with striking workers

Bernie and I have long shared a commitment to justice. We’ve both walked the picket line with workers striking for better conditions. We’ve both opposed wealth inequality and corporate greed. We’ve both pushed for a foreign policy that keeps us safe instead of creating endless wars.

But when I saw images of him getting arrested for protesting segregation, I realized that Bernie is truly one of us. There he was, involved in a struggle that I had dreamed about joining as a child. And he continues in that tradition. I couldn't feel prouder to be in New York helping him become the next president of the United States.

Together, we’re building an unstoppable movement that unites us all, defies the pundits—and will achieve a victory in the New York primary election tonight.

Please do everything you can today to help your friends and family vote for Bernie. Click here to look up your polling place.

Thanks for all you do.

My choice for president

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear MoveOn member,

I’m proud to join with MoveOn as the first U.S. Senator to support my colleague Bernie Sanders for president, because I know he’s the candidate who is boldly and fiercely addressing the biggest challenges facing our country.1

Bernie has spent his life standing up to the powerful special interests and challenging the ways our economy is rigged in favor of those at the very top. He knows that we don’t just need better policies, we need a wholesale rethinking of how our economy and our politics work, and who they serve.

This weekend will be the most important of the campaign to help Bernie win New York. That's why hundreds of New York MoveOn members are going to their local Bernie offices to help get out the vote this Sunday at noon. Here's the nearest event to you. Can you join us this Sunday?

Where: Long Island West Bernie office (in Garden City)

When: Sunday, April 17, 12:00 PM

Click here to RSVP and join other MoveOn members this Sunday.

Or click here to find another event near you.

Growing up in working-class Oregon, my parents could buy a home, take a vacation, and help pay for college, all on one income. My dad told me that if I got an education and worked hard, I could do just about anything because we lived in America. He was right.

I still live in the same community where I grew up, but America has gone off track, and the outlook for the kids growing up here is a lot gloomier today. It’s not that our country is less wealthy than it was 40 years ago. The problem is that our economy has become rigged to make a fortunate few very well-off while leaving most Americans struggling to keep up.

As we choose our next president, we need urgency. We need big ideas. We need to rethink the status quo. Bernie is doing just that.

Bernie has opposed trade deals with nations that pay their workers as little as a dollar an hour. He has passionately advocated for pivoting from fossil fuels to renewable energy to save our planet from global warming—the greatest threat facing humanity. Bernie is a determined leader in taking on the concentration of campaign cash from the mega-wealthy that is corrupting our democracy. And he’s been unflinching in taking on predatory lending and threats from high-risk gambles at our biggest Wall Street banks.

Click here to RSVP and join other MoveOn members this Sunday.

Or click here to find another event near you.

Bernie’s vision is one of a country that measures our success not at the boardroom table, but at kitchen tables across America. Bernie Sanders stands for that America, and so I stand with Bernie Sanders for president.

—Senator Jeff Merkley

New Yorkers can't vote?!

New York's closed primary is suppressing the right to vote. Can you call on officials to change the restriction and allow an open primary?

Dear New York MoveOn member,

I'm Jo Ann Greenberg, a MoveOn member in Brooklyn, and I started a petition to Governor Andrew Cuomo and Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, which says:

Although the primary is on April 19, the deadline for changing one's party affiliation was all the way back in October—6 months ago! This is unfair and is suppressing the right to vote in New York. Please change the restriction and allow an open primary.

There are many many voters in New York State who would like to vote in the heavily contested Republican and Democratic primaries, especially independents, but the deadline for changing registration was over six months ago—long before the presidential campaign was in full swing. They are being disenfranchised through no fault of their own.

As long as a voter is legitimately registered in New York, he or she should be allowed to vote in the primary of his or her choice.

The primary should either be changed from closed to open, or voters should be allowed same-day registration.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Watch now: Bernie and the Fight for $15

Watch and share this amazing new MoveOn video telling the story of the Fight for $15, Bernie Sanders, and how together we can make bold change

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Five years ago, fast-food workers across the country stood up and said that a $7.25 minimum wage is a starvation wage and that it needed to be raised to $15 per hour.

At first, people said they were nuts. They were dreaming too big. They needed to think smaller. Be pragmatic and don’t push too hard. Sound familiar?

But they kept fighting. And MoveOn members across the country joined them. And courageous leaders like Bernie Sanders joined them. And this month, New York became one of the first states in the country to raise its minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Will you watch and share this amazing new MoveOn video telling the story of the Fight for $15, Bernie Sanders, and how together we can make bold change?

Bernie stands with striking workers

Real change is possible if you think big and have a vision. That’s exactly why MoveOn exists and supports efforts like the Fight for $15 and Bernie Sanders' campaign.

This weekend will be the most important of the campaign to help Bernie win New York. That's why hundreds of MoveOn members are swarming their local Bernie offices to help get out the vote on Sunday at noon. Here's the nearest event to you. Can you join this Sunday?

Introducing ...

Change almost never happens from the top down, it almost always occurs from the bottom up. I will do everything I can from the White House, but what this moment requires is people in the streets fighting for change, and electing a Congress that is willing

I've told you throughout this campaign, sisters and brothers, that no candidate for president, not Bernie Sanders, not the greatest president you could possibly imagine, can take on the billionaire class alone.

When I am elected president, I am going to need progressives in Congress who are willing to continue the fight we started in this campaign. Here are three:

Zephyr Teachout literally wrote the book on political corruption and is running for Congress in New York. Pramila Jayapal helped lead the fight for a $15 minimum wage and paid sick leave in Seattle, where she’s now running for Congress. Lucy Flores is a progressive champion running for Congress in Nevada and one of the most courageous people I’ve met on the campaign trail. I need them with me in Washington, D.C., and that’s why I have to ask:

Split a $2.70 contribution between Bernie 2016, Lucy Flores, Pramila Jayapal, Zephyr Teachout, and MoveOn.

Change almost never happens from the top down, it almost always occurs from the bottom up. I will do everything I can from the White House, but what this moment requires is people in the streets fighting for change and electing a Congress that is willing to stand with them.

If we are able to successfully combine those three elements, nothing will be able to stop us. That is the political revolution.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

Tell Microsoft: Stop sponsoring Donald Trump

Microsoft is planning to give the Trump-led Republican convention at least $500,000 and free technical support.

Our friends at ColorOfChange.org recently forced Coca-Cola to abandon their planned support for the Republican National Convention because of Donald Trump's hateful and violent campaign. Now they're targeting Microsoft—which is planning to provide free technical support and funding to the convention. We wanted to make sure you had a chance to sign their petition.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Rashad Robinson of ColorOfChange.org, and I started a petition to Fred Humphries, Corporate Vice President for US Government Affairs and Ed Ingle, Managing Director for Government Affairs at Microsoft, which says:

Call on Microsoft executives directly and tell them to stop funding a platform for Donald Trump's violent hate speech.

Microsoft – a self-proclaimed leader in diversity – is planning to give the Trump-led RNC at least $500,000! Not only that, but they're planning to provide the Trump-led RNC with all of its tech support needs for free.

Trump, who's suggesting his supporters riot if he doesn't win the Republican nomination, has been running a campaign built on violent rhetoric, racially charged imagery, and paranoid conspiracy theories. Just last month, he offered to pay the legal fees for a supporter of his who sucker-punched a peaceful Black protester. And last week, a teenage girl was pepper-sprayed while being a called 'n**ger lover' by a Trump supporter at his rally.

Microsoft has a history-making choice right now. Once they start writing checks, they are committing to support the platform of someone threatening riots at the convention. After hundreds of thousands of you demanded action, Coca-Cola announced it is terminating its financial sponsorship of the RNC – now it's time for Microsoft to follow suit and dump Trump.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

—Rashad Robinson

FW: Supreme Court insanity (unprecedented)

Imagine what would happen if you didn't do your job … If you showed up at work but refused to do one of your most critical work responsibilities.

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw my message from the other day.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Imagine what would happen if you didn't do your job … If you showed up at work but refused to do one of your most critical work responsibilities.

It's quite simple, right? You'd be fired.

In refusing to vote or even hold a hearing on President Obama’s nomination of Chief Judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court, Republican senators aren’t doing their job, as it is clearly spelled out in Article II, Section 2 of the U.S. Constitution.

And the GOP leadership has made clear that it won't budge—that is, unless and until Republicans think they’ll be fired by voters and lose control of the U.S. Senate in November.

MoveOn has swung into action with an impressive campaign, but they didn't budget for a Supreme Court fight this year and need your help to keep the campaign going. That's why I’m asking you to chip in now to MoveOn's campaign to make the GOP feel political pain for failing to do their job.

Click here to chip in $3 and help break the GOP blockade of the Supreme Court.

As I talked about in my recent video for MoveOn, this fight has huge implications. If the Senate confirms Judge Garland, progressives will have a 5-4 majority on the Supreme Court—for the first time in more than 40 years.

We could reverse Citizens United and remove the poison of big money from our democracy. We could reaffirm the right to abortion and stop states from shuttering clinics. We could protect the rights of countless Americans who currently have little or no power in a system where more and more power is going to those the very top.

And that's precisely why Republicans are refusing to do their job and allow a vote on Judge Garland.

Can you help fight back?

Yes, I'll pitch in $3 and help MoveOn’s campaign to stop Republican obstruction of Obama’s highly-qualified Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.

MoveOn has already mobilized members to confront senators outside their home offices during the Senate recess in a national day of action. MoveOn organized a call with Senator Elizabeth Warren—and 14,000 MoveOn members and our allies signed up for the call to turbo-charge this fight. This week, MoveOn members and allies flooded the Senate with 20,000 calls—demanding a timely hearing and an up-or-down vote.

Now, there are cracks appearing in the Republican wall of opposition. Senator Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania—one of the most vulnerable Republicans up for re-election—has agreed to meet with Judge Garland.

With your help, MoveOn will continue to organize high-impact, creative, in-person and on-line actions and to use its organizational megaphone to call out this nonsense—until Republicans relent and do their jobs. That’s the kind of unyielding pressure we’ll need to break Republican obstructionism going into the fall. It's exactly the kind of pressure that MoveOn used to force Republicans to back down and end the government shutdown in 2013.

Will you chip in $3 to enable MoveOn to keep up the pressure and force the GOP to do their job again? So much hangs in the balance.

Click here to chip in now.

Thanks for all you do.

Are you voting for Bernie?

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Bernie Sanders has won seven straight contests by double-digit margins, and this week the entire country turns its attention to New York ahead of next Tuesday's critical election.

An amazing 77% of New York MoveOn members who participated in our national endorsement vote chose Bernie. And with 450,000 MoveOn members in New York, we can help Bernie win on Tuesday, April 19—but only if we all show up and vote together!

Will you pledge to vote for Bernie on Tuesday, April 19?

Yes, I pledge to vote for Bernie on Tuesday, April 19!

Bernie's campaign is inspiring record numbers of people to stand together against a political and economic system rigged for the wealthiest Americans, and to demand the real progressive change our country urgently needs.

We're working with Bernie's New York organizers to collect pledges to get out and vote next Tuesday, April 19. And if they know they can count on you, they can focus their resources on reaching out to other voters who haven't yet made up their minds.

Can we count on you to join fellow New York MoveOn members in voting for Bernie on Tuesday, April 19?

Yes! You can count on me to vote for Bernie on Tuesday, April 19!

Thanks for all you do.
