Resist Trump (before 2017)

No matter what happens—and no matter how bad it gets—our community of millions of MoveOn members will be there to resist, sound the alarm, and tirelessly work to win back power and build a stronger progressive movement.

Dear MoveOn member,

In three days, the new Congress will be sworn in, controlled by a Republican Party willing to shred longstanding political standards and conventions for pure partisan advantage. Its leaders—who just stole a U.S. Supreme Court seat—are gearing up to repeal the Affordable Care Act before Donald Trump is even sworn in.

And 20 days from today, Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated as the 45th president of the United States—giving Republicans control of the House, the Senate, and the White House.

No matter what happens—and no matter how bad it gets—our community of millions of MoveOn members will be there to resist, sound the alarm, and tirelessly work to win back power and build a stronger progressive movement. Seven days a week, 365 days a year.

We're just 1,250 monthly donors away from hitting our goal of signing up 5,000 new monthly donors by midnight tonight, which would give MoveOn a reliable source of funding to make our 2017 work possible. Will you stand with us and become a monthly donor right now?

I'm in! I'll chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn resist Trump every single day in 2017.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

With your ongoing support, we will:

  • Help build a peaceful and highly visible mass resistance to Trump that can help America survive the Trump era with our constitutional democracy and civil liberties intact.
  • Stand together with front-line communities under direct attack from Trump and his administration.
  • Slow down and stop Trump and the GOP’s legislative agenda—from repealing the Affordable Care Act, to slashing Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, to giving massive handouts to corporations and billionaires—by using every tool at our disposal.
  • Lay the groundwork to win back power in the 2017, 2018, and 2020 elections—by building support around an inclusive, populist, and progressive agenda.

Can we count on you, Eddie, to help out? Will you become a MoveOn monthly donor right now?

Yes, you can count on me. I'll chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn resist Trump day in and day out in 2017.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

No matter what, we're in this together. And the only way forward is to organize—with the passion, creativity, tirelessness, and fierce determination that defines the MoveOn community.

Thanks for all you do. And let's make this a happy new year.

—Emily, Manny, Ilya, Justin K., and the rest of the team

Want to support our work? The MoveOn community will work every moment, day by day and year by year, to resist Trump's agenda, contain the damage, defeat hate with love, and begin the process of swinging the nation's pendulum back toward sanity, decency, and the kind of future that we must never give up on. And to do it we need your ongoing support, now more than ever. Will you stand with us?

Yes, I'll chip $5 a month.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Final decisions (How powerful can we be in 2017?)

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw this message from MoveOn's chief operating officer, Robert Fox. We are just...

Hi Eddie—I want to make sure that you saw this message from Robert Fox, MoveOn's COO. If 1,250 more people sign up, we will hit our goal of 5,000 new monthly donors by 2017. We can do it with your help!

Hi MoveOn member,

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's chief operating officer.

Frankly, it hasn't been easy to run operations at MoveOn during a time when MoveOn and our staff are being flooded with hate mail and threats from Trump supporters. But knowing that MoveOn members like you have our backs—and we've been buoyed by so many of you during the campaign and since the election—has given all of us here the resolve and fierce determination to resist Trump at every turn in 2017.

I'm writing you today about MoveOn's 2017 budget, which I need to finalize in the next few days. As I prepare our 2017 budget for approval by the board, I have an important request: Will you become a MoveOn monthly donor?

$5 a month—or whatever you can afford—will go a long way. And the greater the number of consistent supporters that we can count on, the more we can do in what may be the most fraught and important political year of our lifetimes.

Yes, I'm in. I'll become a MoveOn monthly donor right now.

No, I'm sorry, I can't donate monthly.

We've set an ambitious goal of signing up 5,000 new monthly donors between now and midnight on December 31. This would mean $600,000 in additional, reliable funding for 2017—enough to fund an entire team at MoveOn.

When you become a monthly donor, it will be my job to turn your ongoing support into a 2017 budget that would allow MoveOn to rise to the historic challenge that we're facing with a Trump presidency. (And let me be clear: No budget is too large for the threat we face. Which is why I'm hoping that we blast through our end-of-year goal and raise even more.)

Click here to sign up to be a MoveOn monthly donor. Your monthly donation of $5—or whatever you can afford—will enable MoveOn to help lead the resistance to Donald Trump.

Or if you can't donate monthly, then click here.

Your ongoing donation will give us the resources we need to:

  • Fight back against Republicans' attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and slash Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. News reports indicate that all four programs may come under immediate attack.1 And repeal of the Affordable Care Act may come up for a vote in Congress before Trump is even sworn in on January 20.2
  • Stand together with communities—Muslim, Latino, Black, LGBTQ, women, and more—that are under attack. As communities face direct attacks from Trump and his supporters, we will be called on to stand up for equality, justice, and freedom.
  • Help lead the resistance to Trump. We will help build and support a peaceful, highly visible, mass resistance to Trump and work to stop elected officials, the media, and others from normalizing Trump and his administration.
  • Create rapid response campaigns. MoveOn is able to turn on a dime because of our monthly supporters, who give us consistent funding. Ongoing funding allows us to take immediate action when every hour matters, without having to fundraise first.
  • Lay the groundwork to rebuild power in 2017, 2018, and 2020 elections, building support around an inclusive, populist progressive agenda.

Will you become a monthly donor today to help us rise to the great challenges we will face in 2017?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in monthly.

Thanks for all you do.

—Robert Fox, chief operating officer, MoveOn.org

P.S. MoveOn's staff—and our members—are more determined than ever. I know that we don't want to leave any important right-wing attack unchallenged in 2017. Which is why—before I submit MoveOn's 2017 budget to the board—I hope that you'll step up and become a monthly donor. Are you in?

Yes, I'll chip in $5 a month—and help MoveOn take on every important fight in 2017.

No, I'm sorry, I can't give monthly.

Flooded by Trump hate mail

Every time Trump attacks us, we're flooded with vile, hate-filled emails and Facebook comments. This is what Trump does when someone stands up to him. He tries to bully them into silence.

Dear MoveOn member,

When 730,000 MoveOn members signed a petition urging Macy's to dump Donald Trump's line of clothing, Trump threatened a lawsuit.1

After Trump canceled a rally in Chicago because of nonviolent student protests, Trump falsely told Fox News that MoveOn "staged" the protests and that MoveOn is "not a good group of people."2

Trump backer Jeffrey Lord even called MoveOn "the new KKK."3

And every time Trump attacks us, we're flooded with vile, hate-filled emails and Facebook comments.

This is what Trump does when someone stands up to him. He tries to bully them into silence. Imagine how intense that bullying will become when he has the power of the federal government at his fingertips.

We are not going to back down, now or ever. But to keep up the fight over the next four years, we're going to need to redouble our online security and beef up our legal defense fund—without taking away from the crucial grassroots organizing at the core of our work.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help give us the resources to stand up to Trump seven days a week, 365 days a year?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly to help stand up to Trump and his bullying.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Our pledge to you is that we will never, ever let this bullying silence us. But after January 20, Trump will have all the powers of the U.S. presidency to attack us.

He's installing loyalists to run the Justice Department. He's already using his social media following to single out critics for abuse—like the Indiana labor leader who received death threats from Trump's followers after Trump attacked him by name on Twitter.4

It's the worst drumbeats of McCarthyism, Nixonian abuses of power, and Trump's own brand of bullying. And we know already we'll be in the crosshairs.

We know the next four years will bring a wave of awful policies from the Trump administration. We know we will fight back. And Trump will attack us.

Click here to chip in $5 a month to help give us the ongoing resources to stand up to Trump's vicious attacks.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

There's a virtually endless list of people Trump has insulted or attacked, but MoveOn has been one of his most consistent targets.

Trump backer Sean Hannity accused MoveOn of "liberal fascism" and "putting innocent people's lives in jeopardy" when we dared speak out against his racist campaign events.5

Trump's chief of staff accused MoveOn of "harassment" when we called on the members of the Electoral College to vote their conscience.6

Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson falsely accused us of inciting violence—exactly what Trump himself did throughout his campaign.7

But we will not back down. Please, stand with us today and in the weeks and months to come by becoming a monthly donor right now.

Count me in. I'll chip in $5 a month to help stand up to Trump every single day.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Join the resistance?

Donald Trump is the most illegitimate president in American history. He lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, losing by a higher percentage than any winner of a presidential election in modern history.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Donald Trump is the most illegitimate president in American history. He lost the popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, losing by a higher percentage than any winner of a presidential election in modern history.1

And he got where he is, in part, through lies, manipulation, bullying, and—evidently—meddling by a foreign government.

But now we're up against not just Trump and his dystopian administration, but also a Republican Congress that has shown its willingness to upend long-standing rules and political norms, putting its own partisan interests over the interests of the American people. This is the same GOP that just stole a U.S. Supreme Court seat and now is also in control of the White House.

What happens to our country and our people—especially communities specifically targeted by Trump—is in our hands. That's why it's so important that MoveOn—a key leader of the peaceful resistance—has the resources to hit the ground running in 2017.

Will you chip in $5 monthly to MoveOn now—to give them the resources to resist Trump seven days a week, 365 days a year?

Yes, count me in. I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

MoveOn's team is already working day and night to resist the worst of Donald Trump and the GOP, defend the frontline communities destined to shoulder the most brutal burden in the days ahead, and build toward retaking political power in 2017, 2018, and 2020.

There is so much work to do. With your help, MoveOn will:

  • Take on Trump's propaganda. Donald Trump's campaign won, in part, by spewing a torrent of lies and outrageous exaggerations across social media. That's why, with the support of MoveOn members like you, MoveOn's Video Lab will scale up like never before and bust through Trump's propaganda with breakthrough videos that will expose Trump as an illegitimate fraud and his policies as benefiting corporations and billionaires but terrible for average Americans, helping prevent him from governing as if he has a mandate.
  • Ensure that progressive Americans remain awake, resolute, and on the move. In the face of Trump's parade of horribles, it would be easy (and understandable) for people to get numb, hunker down, and pray that they'll make it through the next four years. But human history teaches us of the perils of complacency and fear in response to political extremism and violence.
  • Rise to the unprecedented challenge we're facing. MoveOn's staff team will expand to tackle an unprecedented number of critical campaigns at the same time—from helping lead a staunch opposition to Trump's cabinet picks, to ensuring that the Republican Congress can't shred Americans' health care, to helping give MoveOn members the tools to take on and win progressive victories locally—while standing in defense of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

I'm not saying any of this will be easy. But we have no choice but to fight, because our future depends on it.

Please. Right now. Say you'll be part of the progressive resistance to Donald Trump by helping give MoveOn the resources to resist Trump day in and day out in 2017.

An important (and simple) request

There is so much to do in the months and years ahead to build a movement that's powerful enough to resist Trump's disastrous agenda.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

There is so much to do in the months and years ahead to build a movement that's powerful enough to resist Trump's disastrous agenda, preserve our Constitution and civil liberties, stem attacks on vulnerable communities, and reclaim power. The tasks ahead of us may seem overwhelming … even insurmountable. But by consistently taking one bold action of resistance after another—and never letting up—we can win.

We'll need to demonstrate, object, speak truth to power, join with others, make a ruckus, demand justice, and never stop peacefully fighting and resisting Trump's and the Republican's agenda.

Which is why I'm writing you with one important, simple request:

Will you join MoveOn's peaceful resistance to Trump by signing up as a monthly donor today?

Click here to sign up. $5 a month—or whatever you can afford—will go a long way.

To help make the resistance possible, progressives like you and me will need to step up and personally help build bigger and better infrastructure—to take on what will be the biggest political threat our nation has faced in our lifetimes.

The good news is, it's possible. Because what really matters isn't how much we each give, but how many of us give.

Here's what I mean: If every one of the millions of MoveOn members chipped in just $10 a month, MoveOn's budget would be about twice as big as the National Rifle Association's! (Just think of how much political power they have.) I think it's possible for MoveOn to have a budget like that. After all, there are many of us—and it's necessary, given what our country now faces.

Click here to chip in $5 a month and help grow MoveOn's peaceful resistance.

Organizing and funding a movement for sanity and decency in America is a collective action problem: The reactionary conservative movement has more organized money—corporations, as well as millionaires and billionaires. Our movement has more people, but we aren't as organized. We can match their resources, but only if a critical mass of us commit to it. MoveOn is part of the solution to the problem.

MoveOn's independence depends on being primarily funded by individual members pitching in a few dollars at a time. By becoming a MoveOn monthly donor, you will own a piece of MoveOn's peaceful resistance. MoveOn is accountable only to its members, and it will support and empower us as we work together to resist Donald Trump and his agenda. Seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Will you become a MoveOn monthly donor right now?

Just click this link. $5 a month—or whatever you can do—is great.

There is so much work to do. With your help, MoveOn will:

  • Take on fake news and propaganda. Donald Trump's campaign won, in part, by spewing a torrent of lies and outrageous exaggerations across social media. That's why, with the support of MoveOn members like you, MoveOn's Video Lab will scale up like never before and bust through Trump's propaganda with breakthrough videos that will expose him as an illegitimate fraud (helping prevent him from claiming that he has an overwhelming mandate) and his policies as great for corporations and billionaires (but terrible for average Americans).
  • Ensure that progressive Americans remain awake, resolute, and on the move. In the face of Trump's parade of horribles, it would be easy (and understandable) for people to get numb, hunker down, and pray that they make it through the next four years. But history has taught us of the perils of complacency and fear in response to political extremism and violence.
  • Rise to the unprecedented challenge we're facing. MoveOn's team will expand to tackle an unprecedented number of critical campaigns at the same time—from helping to lead a staunch opposition to Trump's cabinet picks, to ensuring that the Republican Congress can't shred Americans' health care, to empowering MoveOn members to take local action and win progressive victories—while standing in defense of the most vulnerable members of our communities.

Will you chip in $5 a month to MoveOn and help make it all possible? Click here to sign up right now.

By giving monthly to MoveOn, you will do your part to sustain the progressive movement in America and build the political resistance in the Trump era.

If money is tight, then give just a little bit each month—even as little as the price of a cup of coffee. If you are able to afford to give more than that, then please give what you can.

The important thing is that you give, and give consistently—so that MoveOn can grow in 2017 to address the enormous challenges ahead.

Click here to become a MoveOn monthly donor right now.

Or, if you can't become a monthly donor, then click here instead.

Thanks for all you do.

Message delivered: The GOP has a fight on its hands

Dear MoveOn member,

The conventional wisdom in Washington, D.C., is that come January, Republicans will be able to abolish the Affordable Care Act, torpedoing health insurance coverage for 30 million people and that nobody will make a peep about it.1

On Tuesday, we showed that the conventional wisdom is dead wrong.

On that day, MoveOn members and allies gathered outside of 82 Republican House and Senate offices in 26 states across the country, and thousands more flooded state GOP offices with phone calls.

Our message: "Don't take away our health care." And if you try, you've got a fight on your hands.

The demonstrations, organized in partnership with 45 local and national groups, sparked dozens of media stories and a multitude of social media posts. More importantly, they couldn't be ignored by the Republican Congressional staffers inside the offices. A staffer for West Virginia's Senator Shelley Moore Capito sat down with a group of protesters—and readily told them that she knew that there were protests happening at Capito's other offices around the state.

You may not see it on Fox News—yet!—but the resistance to taking away Americans' health care has begun.

Here are a few snapshots of what it looked like out there on Tuesday:

Protesters in Colorado appealing to Senator Cory Gardner:

Protesters in Colorado appealing to Senator Cory Gardner:

Protesters in Pennsylvania speaking to Senator Pat Toomey:

Dec 20 protest

West Virginians taking a stand in front of Senator Shelley Moore Capito's office:

don't take away my health care

This is just the first taste of what the GOP—and any Democrat who dares join them in trying to take away health care that tens of millions of Americans count on—will encounter.

If they repeal the Affordable Care Act, many clinics and hospitals will have to shut their doors.2 Hundreds of thousands of jobs will disappear.3 And tens of millions of people will lose the insurance that they rely on. Until now, Republicans' attempts to repeal Obamacare have just been play-acting, a way to rile up their base. But now, they're shooting with real bullets. And as the rest of the country wakes up to what they're planning to do—hurt real people—a firestorm of opposition is building.

Trump and his Republican friends have said that repealing the Affordable Care Act will be their first priority this January. We can make it their first defeat. By stopping them, we'll slam the door on their plans to slash and privatize Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, public schools, and so many other fundamental services that Americans rely on. And by battling against their atrocious plan, we'll demonstrate to the American people whose side Trump is really on—and what we stand for as progressives.

Happy holidays and thanks for all you do.

Host a Community Meeting to Resist Trump?

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump is already moving a disastrous agenda into place that could jeopardize every bit of progress we've made together over the last 8 years. He's put forth frightening cabinet nominations. He has obvious and dangerous conflicts of interest. He has all but declared war on American democracy—with threats to take away millions of people’s healthcare, register and track every Muslim living in the U.S., implement a national stop-and-frisk policy to legally harass Black people, and deport millions of immigrants, who are not only critical to the economy, but who have families and other deep ties to this country.

No one really knows what will happen after January 20, but we do know that we have to be prepared to form a strong, united line of resistance in order to protect the communities most affected by Trump's agenda, fight against policies that will benefit billionaires and bankrupt the rest of us, hold on to progressive victories—such as Obamacare—and defend our democracy.

We're organizing Community Meetings to Resist Trump on Sunday, January 15—just days before the inauguration—to bring our communities together and talk about what resistance looks like for us at the local level. Will you join us? It could be in your living room, in a library or community center. We'll give you everything you need to pull together a successful meeting.

I’m in. Sign me up to host a meeting in my community on Sunday, January 15.

Earlier this week, thousands of MoveOn members and allies gathered at congressional district offices in a beautiful demonstration of our people power to tell our Republican members of Congress: "don't take away our health care!" We shared stories about how we rely on Obamacare, Medicaid, and Medicare; we attracted loads of media coverage; and we demonstrated, in no uncertain terms, that we're energized and ready to fight back when our values come under attack.

And that's not the last that Congress will hear from us. We are partnering with People's Action to organize community meetings in living rooms and community centers across the country where we'll plan our next days of action and sketch a plan of how we'll keep out communities safe, defend our values, and resist the new administration—including by organizing opposition to Trump's dangerous cabinet appointments.

We’ll provide everything you need for a successful meeting—a host guide, checklist, sample agenda, and more—and we'll be with you every step of the way, coaching, answering questions, and helping to recruit fellow MoveOn members to attend your event.

All you need to sign up to host now is a venue (could be your living room!) and a desire to create change.

Click here to sign up to host a Community Meeting to Resist Trump on Sunday, January 15.

Thanks for all you do.

BREAKING: We marched to the White House and WON!

We delivered over 341,000 signatures to the White House to make it clear: President Obama can act right now to dismantle NSEERS.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week, hundreds of MoveOn members and allies, led by Muslims who would be affected by Donald Trump's registry, marched to the White House as part of a big campaign to demand that President Obama do his part to prevent the registry from being built.

People from all backgrounds showed up to stand with Muslim communities. We chanted, we sang, we marched, and we listened to stories of those who have been directly affected by the National Security Entry-Exit Registration System (NSEERS), which is the Bush-era registry program used to target and detain immigrants from Muslim-majority countries. We called on President Obama to shut down NSEERS, completely, once and for all, before Trump takes office.

And we have some amazing news to share: We won!

President Obama and the Department of Homeland Security are officially shutting down NSEERS once and for all.1 There's much more to do, but today's victory puts one more critical hurdle in Trump's way to prevent him from targeting Muslim communities and starting a Muslim registry.

In these moments, before Trump takes office, it's important to begin building broad coalitions—especially to stand in solidarity with communities that will be on the front lines of Trump's vicious policy agenda. Our march and campaign did just that—it brought together a diverse group of people to stand with Muslim communities and fight back against the entire idea of a "Muslim registry." And we worked closely with our allies at DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving), whose membership was directly affected by NSEERS. The march last week showed what's possible when people stand together and rise together.

If you're not on Twitter, you can share the Facebook album by clicking here.

Just yesterday, a reporter asked Donald Trump if he was reconsidering his proposals of building a Muslim registry or banning Muslims. Trump responded, "You know my plans."2

After campaigning on anti-Muslim policies, Trump seems to be doubling down on making sure that his proposals become a reality. Well, we're not stopping, either.

And today's news shows what's possible when we stand up and fight back against fascism: we win.

Last week, we also delivered over 341,000 signatures to the White House, collected by MoveOn.org and allied organizations, including DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving), CREDO Action, MomsRising, Bend the Arc Jewish Action, and the ACLU. This coalition of groups is representative of the larger, diverse, vocal, and committed constellation of organizations who will not stand silently by as anti-Muslim attacks accelerate and discriminatory policies are enacted.

This outpouring of public support—in the form of hundreds of thousands of signatures and hundreds of marchers—shows what's possible when we stand together. We are the majority. And we will continue to win.

Thanks for all you do.

—Iram, Maria, Scott, Mark, and the rest of the team

Trump's war on MoveOn

Donald Trump and his henchmen are now attacking MoveOn. I promise you that we won't be intimidated or bullied—and we have no intention of backing down one bit.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump and his henchmen are now attacking MoveOn.

Reince Priebus, Trump's incoming chief of staff, reacted to Electoral College protests by telling "Fox News Sunday" that "harassment from groups like MoveOn.org and the Democratic Party should stop."1 We knew the moment he said it because there was an immediate spike in online abuse aimed at us.

I promise you that we won't be intimidated or bullied—and we have no intention of backing down one bit. Will you stand with us today and over the weeks and months ahead by chipping in $5 a month?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly and help MoveOn stand up to Trump's ongoing attacks.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Donald Trump and his allies aren't just pushing the standard Republican threats of repealing the Affordable Care Act, overturning Roe v. Wade, and giving a huge tax break for the 1%.

They have declared a war on truth itself. Who cares that Monday's Electoral College protests were peaceful and respectful? Or that while thousands of MoveOn members turned out, MoveOn didn't organize these events—nor did the Democratic Party?

Facts don't matter to these folks. Intimidation and bullying are part of their standard tool set.

During Trump's "victory tour," he told his followers that the murder rate is the highest it's been in 45 years. In fact, it's near a 50-year low.2

He said that he won the election in a landslide—but in fact, he lost the popular vote by 2.8 million votes.3,4 He rejected the findings of the FBI and CIA on Russian interference in our election, while claiming—with no evidence whatsoever—that millions of people voted illegally for Hillary Clinton.5,6

And this isn't the first time Trump's entourage has moved to silence dissent by attacking grassroots organizations—like MoveOn—and media outlets that challenge his lies.

It's not hyperbole to say that this is how fascism develops. And we have an obligation to speak out.

Click here to chip in $5 a month, and give MoveOn the ongoing resources we need to lead the Trump resistance seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Or if you can't make a monthly donation, click here.

We're already working day and night to resist the worst from Donald Trump and the GOP. Here's a snapshot of our plans:

  • Work with our Video Lab and Robert Reich to bust through propaganda and expose the truth. We'll scale up like never before—and respond to Trump's propaganda and lies with viral, truthful, fact-based videos that we can share through our huge social media following.
  • Organize against Trump's attacks on our health care, environment, civil liberties, and frontline communities. We'll expand to tackle critical campaigns—from helping to lead the opposition to Trump's most extreme cabinet picks to doing our damnedest to make sure Republicans can't shred Americans' health care.
  • Pressure Democrats to stand strong. We need to build a populist progressive Democratic Party that can win the support of a broad-based coalition and hold accountable any corporate Democrats who are willing to play footsie with a white supremacist.

But to make it all happen, we're counting on members like you to give us the ongoing resources to stand up to Trump and help lead the peaceful resistance. Will you chip in $5 a month now?

Yes, I'll chip in to help stand up to Trump now and in the weeks and months ahead.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Thank you, Eddie! Nearly $100,000 raised for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe

Your signatures, phone calls, and contributions helped amplify the work of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and will continue to provide support for their ongoing work.

Dear MoveOn member,

We wanted to send a special note to MoveOn members like you who've stepped up to support the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Together, MoveOn members pitched in close to $100,000 to help the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe replenish funds depleted by their work to stop the Dakota Access Pipeline—and for their ongoing struggle for native sovereignty.

Soon, we'll present this contribution directly to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe along with thousands of heartfelt messages of support from MoveOn members across the country.

When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers rejected the pipeline company's easement earlier this month, the water protectors won a major victory against the Dakota Access Pipeline. But there will still be much work to do to ensure their land and water are safe from corporations that would disrespect their sovereignty and lands.

The tax-deductible contributions and messages of support from MoveOn members showed continued solidarity and support for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. MoveOn members have also stood with water protectors in many other ways over recent months.

  • Earlier this year—after news broke that a private security firm was using dogs against peaceful water protectors—more than 120,000 members called on the North Dakota Private Investigation and Security Board (NDPISB) to demand an investigation. After mounting pressure, the NDPISB opened an investigation that ultimately found the guards were not licensed in North Dakota.1,2

  • More than 400,000 MoveOn members signed the petition by Standing Rock Sioux Chairman David Archambault II and the Native Organizers Alliance calling on President Obama to take action to end the Dakota Access Pipeline once and for all.3

  • In addition to those signatures, MoveOn members made more than 10,000 phone calls to the White House and North Dakota authorities to demand action and justice.

Your signatures, phone calls, and contributions helped amplify the work of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and will continue to provide support for their ongoing work.

If you haven't yet, please sign the card and we'll deliver your message along with your contribution.

Thank you for showing up and standing with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and for all you do.

The Electoral College has voted. Now what?

Now that the Electoral College has voted to make Donald Trump the 45th president of the United States, I have an important request for you.

Dear MoveOn member,

Now that the Electoral College has voted to make Donald Trump the 45th president of the United States, I have an important request for you.

You and I—together, alongside millions of other Americans—we are the resistance. It's now clear that we can't count on the norms of democracy to keep Trump in check—norms that were fraying even before Trump's ascendancy.1 The GOP has now stolen a U.S. Supreme Court seat and used unprecedented tactics to undermine Obama's presidency. And the media continues to enable Trump—to such a degree that NBC is literally putting Trump on their payroll as a producer of "The Celebrity Apprentice."2

What we do have going forward is the power of a fierce, creative, peaceful, and determined resistance. MoveOn is ready and committed to help lead the resistance—standing up to Trump every step of the way and fighting for the heart, soul, and future of our country.

So now, with Trump one major step closer to the presidency, I want to ask you to chip in $5 a month to MoveOn in the name of Donald Trump—to give us the resources to resist Trump seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Count me in. I'll chip in monthly now.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Here’s how the resistance will work, Eddie:

  • We will resist by showing that Donald Trump is unfit to be president, through Inauguration Day and beyond.
  • We will resist by shining a spotlight on Trump’s corruption and violations of our laws and the U.S. Constitution and, if it comes to it, demand Trump's impeachment.
  • We will resist by demanding that Democrats (and sensible Republicans) reject the worst aspects of Trump’s agenda, which benefits corporations and billionaires over the rest of us and uses bigotry to try to divide our nation. And we will hold them accountable if they don’t.
  • And we will resist by rebuilding the Democratic Party into a party that represents you and me, not wealthy donors and powerful special interests.

Will you join the resistance? Chip in $5 a month now in the name of Donald Trump.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

The scale of the threat we face is unprecedented. And so our peaceful, strategic, and united response must also be unprecedented.

Thanks for all you do.

FW: It's official: We're calling on electors to reject Trump

Hi Eddie—I wanted to make sure you saw this important email from Anna. —Justin

Hi Eddie—I wanted to make sure you saw this important email from Anna. —Justin

Dear MoveOn member,

MoveOn members have voted 94.5% to 5.5% this week for MoveOn to call on the Electoral College to reject Donald Trump.

Now, we have just over 48 hours to act. Will you chip in $3 to help run our emergency campaign to urge the Electoral College to reject Donald Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in and join the campaign to urge the Electoral College to reject Donald Trump.

With your help, we are:

  • Running our new ad featuring a Republican elector saying he won't vote for Trump—which has drawn over 2 million views online already—on TV shows, including "Morning Joe," "Fox & Friends," and Fox News and promoting it on social media.
  • Flooding the White House with calls, asking President Obama to declassify the CIA evidence of Russian influence on our election and call for a special session of Congress to address this crisis. Already, 200,000 MoveOn members have signed a petition to the president and over 17,000 called the White House in just one day.
  • Recruiting members to attend peaceful, lawful actions over this weekend and on Monday to show popular outrage over Trump's foreign entanglements, refusal to address his financial conflicts of interest, and gross unfitness to serve—including gatherings at statehouses where electors will cast ballots on Monday.
  • Calling on Congressional leaders, who have the power to delay the Electoral College vote to do so until the CIA evidence has been shared and Trump has suitably addressed his financial conflicts.

Will you pitch in $3 and help us run this this emergency campaign?

Let's be clear: As our emails about the member vote email noted, it's extremely unlikely that we'll actually succeed in getting the Electoral College to block Trump.

But this is also an unprecedented moment in American history. Trump presents a unique set of threats to our democracy. We should try.

And no matter what happens on Monday, we must help ensure that the public remembers that Hillary Clinton won more than 2.8 million more votes than Trump.

We must push Democrats to be bold in their opposition to Trump's and the Republicans' odious policies and nominees.

And we must make clear that we, the people, will not silently stand by while an unpopularly-elected president tears our country apart.

Please, chip in $3, or whatever you can afford, and join the campaign to urge the Electoral College to reject Donald Trump.

Thanks for all you do.

—Anna, Hannah, Nick, Tzyh, and the rest of the team

P.S. The FBI said yesterday that it backs the CIA's assessment that Russia intervened in the U.S. election to help Donald Trump win.1 And that's after the news broke this week that Russian President Vladimir Putin was personally involved—further evidence that the electors and American people have not been told the whole story yet and all the more reason to urge electors to stop Trump now.2

And momentum may be building: There are reportedly 20 electors who are considering voting their conscience.3

Tell the electors in person: Reject Trump

MoveOn members are joining allies in one last-ditch effort to ask the electors in person to reject Donald Trump.

Dear MoveOn member,

The latest headlines about the Russian government's interference in our presidential election read like something out of a blockbuster Hollywood thriller. Except they aren't part of any blockbuster script. They're real.

This week news broke that the Russian president himself was involved in the efforts to influence our November election—in favor of Donald Trump.1

Amid this chilling news—and without the necessary access to an intelligence briefing regarding the extent of Russian tampering—538 members of the Electoral College will meet on Monday, December 19, in state capitols across the country to choose the next president of the United States.

That's why MoveOn members are joining allies in one last-ditch effort to ask the electors—in person—to reject Donald Trump.

Will you join fellow MoveOn members and our allies on Monday, December 19, in a national action to save our democracy?

Just click this link to RSVP. When you click this link, you’ll be directed to a website created by a coalition of MoveOn allies who are organizing these peaceful, legal gatherings. (And note: If you agree to participate in this action, you agree to terms found here.)

If you live too far from your statehouse to attend, please help spread the word by forwarding this email to friends and family members in New York or elsewhere who you think might be able to attend an action!

Aside from Russia's election tampering, Trump has alarming financial entanglements, and there are concerns regarding his corruption that have yet to be fully understood or resolved.2

Responding to this crisis, 94% of MoveOn members who participated in a recent member vote voted to launch a campaign to urge the electors to vote their conscience and reject Trump.3

The charge to reach electors has transcended party lines. News outlets report that over 20 Republican electors have indicated that they are considering changing their vote.4

MoveOn members know that this campaign to prevail upon the electors faces steep odds, but we've got to continue—to demonstrate our resistance and our resolve to not sit silently as the corrupt and questionably-elected Trump tears apart our nation.

Please join an event at your state capitol on Monday, December 19, by clicking this link. (Click here to review MoveOn’s participant agreement. By signing up, you’re agreeing to abide by its terms.)

No matter what happens on Monday, we’ll need MoveOn members to lead the resistance to Trump and Trumpism in the weeks and months ahead. Onward!

Thanks for all you do.
