Philando Castile

Will you sign and share the petition demanding that the city of St. Anthony cease all severance negotiations with Yanez immediately?

Dear MoveOn member,

The police officer who killed Philando Castile, Jeronimo Yanez, was found not guilty by a mostly-white jury after five days of deliberation—and what's even more enraging is that he could actually PROFIT from the pain and suffering he's caused.1

Nothing can describe the rage that Black people are feeling right now. Will you sign and share the petition demanding that the city of St. Anthony cease all severance negotiations with Yanez immediately?

Do not allow Jeronimo Yanez to profit from killing Philando Castile. Cease all severance negotiations with Yanez immediately.

Right as the verdict came down, the city of St. Anthony fired Yanez from its police department—and announced that they will begin negotiating a "separation agreement" to help Yanez "transition to another career."2

So let's get this straight: Yanez has been on a paid vacation for almost a year, and now the department is offering him a wad of cash to walk away? There is no way we can allow him to profit from the murder of Philando Castile.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you.

Before we pass single-payer health care ...

I know that the right-wing attacks against me will keep coming—because I'm not going to stop fighting to protect health care, expand Social Security, and hold the big banks accountable when they break the law. Republicans don't want to talk about my record, so they'll just dismiss me and paint me as a crazy, angry woman.

Dear MoveOn member,

Right now—at this very minute—Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans are still trying to find a way to rip health care away from tens of millions of Americans.

I believe that Americans are ready to make some big, essential changes to our country's health care system—including negotiating drug prices and implementing single-payer health care. But if the GOP succeeds, we'll go in the opposite direction. Many Americans will go bankrupt trying to get health care—and some will even die.

All 46 Senate Democrats and two independents are united in fighting to stop this monstrosity of a bill again and again. But let's be honest: We're hanging on by our fingernails here. If Democrats lose even one Senate seat in 2018, our fragile firewall will crack, and the worst of the Republican agenda will be rushed through Congress.

That's why I'm asking for your help, Eddie. McConnell and Donald Trump have made it clear that they'd like nothing more than for me to shut up and go home. (One right-wing Super PAC has already pledged to raise $10 million to beat us in my reelection campaign in 2018.)

MoveOn members like you have always been an important and powerful part of my team, and I need you now to help me fight back. Tomorrow night is my critical Federal Election Commission deadline—will you chip in $3 to my reelection campaign to help keep me fighting for all Americans in the Senate?

Click here to chip in to my reelection campaign for U.S. Senate, and I'll continue to fight every single day against the Republican "health care" bill, for health care for all, and for our progressive values.

If you think that I'm safe in 2018, consider this: A right-wing Super PAC ran $150,000 worth of radio ads in Massachusetts this month, attacking my work fighting for college students. I've made it pretty clear that I'm going to hold Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education accountable when they cheat students and families, so the whole thing is just nuts.

But you couldn't turn on your radio in Massachusetts this month without hearing that ad.

We've seen this particular playbook used against women before.

So I'm not taking anything for granted. Not when there's even the slightest chance that my voice—our voices—could be silenced next November. Not when this week proved that one Senate seat could mean the difference between millions of people having health insurance or being told to go file for bankruptcy or die.

MoveOn members have always been the heart of my team. Will you pitch in $3 today to help my 2018 Senate reelection campaign before tomorrow night's crucial fundraising deadline?

Yes, Elizabeth! I'm in! I'll chip in to help you keep fighting.

Thank you for all you do to keep up the fight.

–Senator Elizabeth Warren

Republicans on the run (Trumpcare)

Mitch McConnell was forced to postpone the Senate vote on Trumpcare (the vote was supposed to be TODAY.)

Dear MoveOn member,

Mitch McConnell was forced to postpone the Senate vote on Trumpcare (the vote was supposed to take place TODAY.)1

The delay of the Senate vote shows that the efforts of the resistance movement are working and now is the time to turn up the heat. Republicans are running away from Trumpcare. And if a vote were held today, Trumpcare would lose.

Our win is both huge and real, but also very temporary. Although nine Republican senators have announced their opposition to the current bill—according to our best intelligence from Capitol Hill—we expect a full-court press by Republican leaders and Donald Trump to sway these senators and pass this horrible bill.

Here's what we expect to happen next:

  • McConnell will use the additional time to aggressively pressure every key Republican, using every possible lure and threat to swing the Republicans who have expressed concerns or said that they would not support moving forward with a vote. McConnell is, no doubt, hoping that delaying the vote will cause popular opposition and outrage to subside just enough for him to ram it through, just like what happened with the House Trumpcare bill last month.

  • Senators will go home for the July 4 recess. They will be closely watching what happens in their districts and how much heat they get from their constituents.

  • The Republican money machine will go into overdrive. Just days ago, a Super PAC aligned with Trump and Mike Pence announced that it's launching a $1.3 million ad campaign attacking Nevada's Republican Senator Dean Heller because he said that he couldn't support the current bill.3

  • Republicans will keep trying to pass a bill when they get back to Washington the week after next, and until the August recess. Republicans, anxious at the prospect of facing the righteous anger from their constituents during the long August recess, will want to pass the bill as soon as possible after they return to Washington from the July 4 recess. The good news is that if we can make it until August without a vote, then there's a good chance that Trumpcare really will be dead for the foreseeable future.

We can stop this bill, if we turn up the heat and keep it on. Here are five things that you can do to help stop Trumpcare:

  1. Call your Democratic Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand at 855-912-2982. Democrats are united in support against Trumpcare, but you can urge them to use every tactic at them disposal to slow and stop this bill: to join protests, to join the filibuster-by-amendment (a way of slowing down the bill with a high number of amendments when the bill does come to a vote), and—this is crucial—to not vote for any amendments that will help Republicans pass Trumpcare. Republicans might try to get Democrats to help pass amendments that make it easier for moderates to vote for the bill. Tell them not to fall for it!

  2. Urge your friends and family across America to call their senators at 855-912-2982. It's easy! Just click here to share our Facebook post on your wall. You can also write personal notes to friends and family, especially those who live in Alaska, West Virginia, Ohio, Nevada, Maine, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Arkansas. Be sure to include the phone number 855-912-2982.

  3. Join a MoveOn community cookout this weekend. These are local gatherings where you'll meet with neighbors, activists, and fellow progressives to strategize about actions over recess and in the weeks ahead. Join a MoveOn community cookout this weekend.

  4. Get involved during the July 4 recess. You can start by bringing a health care message to your local Independence Day parade. Though members of Congress are canceling town halls, they will show up for the parade. Hold signs or banners that say "Health care is our right," "Health care for all is patriotic," or "Taking away our health care is unpatriotic." These signs will get captured in local news coverage, and you can also share photos of them on social media with the hashtag #protectourcare. You can also click here to look up your senators' local district offices, call to get their office hours, and show up in person and check out Indivisible's "Trumpcare delay" website for ways to get involved.

  5. Sign up for MoveOn text message alerts. We'll send you text alerts at the most crucial moments—like right before the vote—to remind you to call again or to let you know when there's an in-person protest coming up near you.

If not for the uprising of millions of Americans, Trumpcare would have been signed into law five months ago. Now, thanks to the voices of grassroots activists fighting for their lives, its end could be within reach ... If we keep going at full throttle.

The key thing here is that the whole country has to know what's going on—that this isn't yet a victory. It's a setback for the Republican agenda overall (since Trumpcare's slowdown delays other priorities), a sign that our resistance is working, and an opportunity to double down and stop this zombie bill from returning yet again.

In recent weeks MoveOn has been pulling out all the stops. We rallied to organize a three-state tour with Bernie Sanders; we had huge Washington, D.C., rallies this week with Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Bernie Sanders, and many others; we're buying an unprecedented amount of ads; and we're completely maxing out the capacity of our new technology to reach progressive activists whom we can't reach by email. And MoveOn members like you are hitting the phones, sharing stories, attending local events, and driving for hours to make your voices heard.

Because the truth is: If folks know what's really happening and take action, we will win. Everyone hates this bill. When people understand that this bill really is on the verge of being passed, they get off the sidelines. And we need everyone to stand up and take action—the roar of the American people against this bill has to be deafening.

McConnell wants to throw off our momentum. We won't let him.

If you wish, thinking back on it now, that you'd put just a little more time, money, and energy into stopping Trump before he was elected—pour that time, money, and energy into this fight now.

Thanks for all you do.

–Ben, Anna, Corinne, Jo, and the rest of the team

P.S. Amtrak

We, the undersigned, urge Congress to reject the Trump administration's proposed elimination of all long-distance Amtrak passenger train service.

Add your name: Save Amtrak

We, the undersigned, urge Congress to reject the Trump administration's proposed elimination of all long distance Amtrak passenger train service. If enacted, hundreds of small communities across the United States would lose their last means of low cost public transportation to the outside world.

Dear MoveOn member,

Under the Trump administration's proposed budget, all long-distance Amtrak passenger train service would lose federal support and could be discontinued.1 The national passenger train network would be destroyed, which means it would no longer be possible to cross the United States by train.

Will you sign and share my petition to Congress asking them to reject the Trump administration's proposed elimination of all long distance Amtrak passenger train service?

As a resident of a small community, I would no longer be able to travel to see family or pursue business and employment opportunities. Residents of many other small towns across the U.S. would lose their ability to travel to the outside world to seek medical help and educational and job opportunities.

The amount of federal support for these Amtrak services is very small compared to the rest of the federal budget. Many more tax dollars are spent in supporting the White House's fleet of airplanes than is spent on the entire Amtrak budget.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

RESISTANCE SUMMER COMMUNITY COOKOUT

Resistance Summer is here!

Since November, Americans of all political stripes have been relentless in peaceful resistance to the divisive and dangerous policies of the Trump administration and its enablers in Congress, in state governments, and in corporate America. And with the Senate actively working to pass Trumpcare within weeks and the Supreme Court upholding parts of the Muslim ban, there is still much work ahead of us.

But we know that taking the time to acknowledge all we have accomplished together and to connect with one another is what will sustain our movement and keep the resistance strong for weeks and months to come. That's why we're kicking off Resistance Summer with almost 500 community cookouts in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Come share food, stories, ideas, and opinions with fellow progressives and discuss actions we can take, in our own communities during the recess and the weeks ahead, to stop the GOP's attempt to rip away life-saving health care from tens of millions of Americans.

Will you join a Resistance Summer community cookout near you this weekend?

[petition] My dad

Will you sign and share my petition to Representative Bob Gibbs and ask him to do everything he can to keep my dad here with my family?

Dear MoveOn member,

Immigration Customs and Enforcement is trying to take my father, Jesus Lara, away from me and my family.1

I'm a U.S. Citizen, and I don't know why Donald Trump is trying to take my dad. He is a great dad, he adopted me, and he's always been there for me, helping with my homework and making sure my brothers and sisters and I have what we need. I don't know what my future would be like without my dad.

Will you sign and share my petition to Representative Bob Gibbs (R-OH) and ask him to do everything he can to keep my dad here with my family?

Please, Rep. Gibbs, do everything you can so my father can stay with us.

Jesus Lara is a longtime Ohio resident, an aspiring American, and the father of four U.S. citizens. Earlier this year, Jesus was told by Immigration and Custom Enforcement that he would be deported back to Mexico due to a traffic infraction from years ago.2

If elected officials like Rep. Gibbs fail to intervene, Jesus will be deported in just a few weeks.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Jesus is a loving father, taxpayer, homeowner, and valued member of the Willard, Ohio, community. He is active in his church and is known as a kind and helpful neighbor. He and his four U.S. citizen children recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with congressional offices and build support for his case.

Congressman Bob Gibbs represents the Lara family in Washington, D.C., and his office is looking into the case—but there's so much more he can do. If we want to stop Jesus's deportation, then we need leaders like Congressman Gibbs to use their power to help the Lara family and get ICE to stop this deportation.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you.

—Eric Lara

UPDATE: Here's what we're going to do about Trumpcare

We need only three Republicans to vote their conscience and oppose this bill to stop it. We need only three Republicans to vote their conscience and oppose this bill to stop it.

Hi Eddie—MoveOn is on the road with Senator Bernie Sanders this weekend, on a three-state tour to stop Trumpcare.

Bernie was on fire last night as he urged a packed crowd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to pull out all the stops to defeat this "barbaric and immoral piece of legislation." Today, we're in Ohio and West Virginia. We need only three Republicans to vote their conscience and oppose this bill to stop it.

Please chip in $3 to join MoveOn and Bernie Sanders in the fight to stop Republicans from kicking 23 million Americans off of health care in order to give a tax cut to the richest Americans.

For more on the rallies and the huge health care fight that's coming up next week, you can read Sen. Sanders' message below.

–Ben Wikler, MoveOn.org Washington Director

Dear MoveOn member,

This weekend, I am partnering with MoveOn and going back on the road to visit states where there are Republican senators who can and should vote against the effort by Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell to throw 23 million people off of health insurance and, in the same bill, give huge tax breaks to multinational corporations and the rich.

They call it a health care bill, but how can it be a health care bill when it throws 23 million people off of insurance, cuts $834 billion from Medicaid, and defunds Planned Parenthood? God knows what the implication of this legislation will be on our children, the elderly, and those of us with chronic illnesses.

It is literally insane. I have a hard time understanding what kind of world these guys are living in sometimes.

This is a bill that impacts a sixth of the American economy and touches every single American family. Yet until this Thursday morning, they kept the bill secret, kept it hidden. And now, in the last possible second, they are going to rush it before the U.S. Senate to get a vote.

We're going to be visiting Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia on Saturday and Sunday. If you can, please show up. But we cannot pull off this tour alone. We need your help.

Chip in $3 to MoveOn today to help them fund our tour to stop Republicans from kicking 23 million Americans off of health insurance in order to give a tax cut to the richest among us.

Time is running out. No one can sit on the sidelines. Not now. It is up to all of us to act in an unprecedented way. We have to think big and do everything humanly possible to make sure that this horrendous piece of legislation does not become law.

On this tour I will ask why it is that the United States is the only major country on earth that does not guarantee health care to all of its people as a right. I will ask why we pay far more per capita than any other nation for health care—with worse outcomes—and the highest prices for prescription drugs. And I will discuss the Medicare for all, single payer legislation that I will soon be introducing in the United States Senate.

But first, we must stop Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

Thank you for joining me and MoveOn in that effort.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

Here's what we're going to do about Trumpcare

This weekend, I am partnering with MoveOn and going back on the road to visit states where there are Republican senators who can and should vote against the effort by Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell to throw 23 million people off of health insurance and, in the same bill, give huge tax breaks to multinational corporations and the rich.

Yet until this morning, they kept the bill secret, kept it hidden.

CALL NOW: Senate's Trumpcare bill revealed. Urge Democrats to resist.

The Senate's Trumpcare bill has just been released, and it's as cruel as we feared.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Senate's Trumpcare bill has just been released, and it's as cruel as we feared.1

It will take a wrecking ball to health care in this country: leaving millions of Americans without health care, making health care unaffordable for many, eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood—while giving massive tax cuts to the wealthy.

And shockingly, this bill's cuts to Medicaid are even deeper than those in the bill passed by the House—at a moment when Medicaid and Medicare should be dramatically expanded to support seniors, kids with disabilities, folks wrestling with addiction, rural hospitals, and so much more.

Republicans plan to vote on this bill next week. But Senate Democrats have the power to resist and slow things down. Earlier this week, Democrats held the Senate floor to object to Trumpcare. And Democrats have the power to do even more—to grind Senate business to a halt by objecting to routine unanimous consent requests and other normal business. Doing this will stall the bill, create more time for a robust public debate, and force Republicans to face their constituents over the July 4th recess.

Will you call your Democratic senators right now, and say something like, "Democrats did a great job holding the Senate floor to protest Trumpcare this week. Now that the Senate Trumpcare bill is released, Democrats need to block ALL routine Senate business, ensure the public is able to debate this bill, and force Republicans to confront their constituents during the Fourth of July recess."

Here is where to call:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542
  • Sen. Gillibrand - (202) 224-4451

Then click here to let us know you called, so we can hear your experience and share with the media just how many calls MoveOn members made.

If this bill becomes law, tens of millions of people will lose access to their health care. Many people who are currently healthy will go without the preventive care they need and get sick. And some people who are sick now will die unnecessarily.

That's why we're organizing rallies, running ads, and working around the clock to defeat this bill and protect and improve coverage for all Americans.

Democratic senators have an important role to play too, by slowing down Senate business, stopping Republicans from from ramming this travesty through before July 4, and giving time for impacted Americans to make their voices heard. Please call now:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542
  • Sen. Gillibrand - (202) 224-4451

When you call, say something like "Democrats did a great job holding the Senate floor to protest Trumpcare this week. Now that the Senate Trumpcare bill is released, Democrats need to block ALL routine Senate business, ensure the public is able to debate this bill, and force Republicans to confront their constituents during the Fourth of July recess."

Then click here to let us know you called, so we can hear your experience and share with the media just how many calls MoveOn members made.

Thanks for all you do.

Today in NYC: Reject Trumpcare!

Stop by any time until 5 p.m. today, Thursday, June 22, to help stop Trumpcare while we still can.

Dear MoveOn member,

The Washington Post yesterday obtained a leaked copy of the Senate's Trumpcare bill, and it's as cruel as we feared—making health care unaffordable for tens of millions of Americans, eliminating funding for Planned Parenthood, and cutting Medicaid even more deeply than the House bill.1 And the Senate is slated to vote on it next week.

That's why we need to publicly and loudly demonstrate our opposition to this bill immediately. Today, advocates for health care are in the midst of a 24-hour vigil outside of the Trump International Hotel and Tower at Columbus Circle in Manhattan. The vigil began last night at 5 p.m. and continues until 5 p.m. tonight, Thursday, June 22.

Can you join the vigil anytime today? You can come for an hour or for the whole day! There are speakers, rallies, and people of all walks of life standing together against Trumpcare. Check out the event page for the latest details of the schedule.

(The link above will take you to an event page hosted by the organizers of the vigil. By choosing to attend this event, you are acknowledging the risks involved, and you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, and to work to de-escalate confrontations with opposition supporters or others.)

Make no mistake: If this bill becomes law, tens of millions of people will go without the health care they need. Medicaid funding for a range of recipients, from children with disabilities to people wrestling with opioid addiction to seniors in nursing homes, will be cut by hundreds of billions of dollars. Millions of women and families won’t be able to receive care from Planned Parenthood, which is defunded under the bill. And protections for pre-existing conditions—everything from asthma to cancer to pregnancy—will be shredded, while coverage requirements are tossed aside and premiums rise.

We have to fight this with everything we’ve got. And part of that is demonstrating our commitment to fight Trumpcare to make sure that national media covers the fierce opposition to the bill, that Republicans know they will be held accountable if they pass this devastating and unpopular bill, and that Democrats know they must do everything in their power to stop this attack on tens of millions of Americans.

Join the vigil today, Thursday, June 22, whenever you can until 5 p.m.

Thanks for all you do.

Meet my son Leo (Watch now)

When my son Leo was six months old, I started noticing that he wasn't hitting his milestones. One year later, I learned that he was born with cerebral palsy.

Dear MoveOn member,

When my son Leo was six months old, I started noticing that he wasn't hitting his milestones. One year later, I learned that he was born with cerebral palsy.

In the years since Leo’s diagnosis, we have relied on the coverage Leo has received through Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act to access the vital services Leo needs to thrive and grow. If Republicans pass their health care repeal, which could be within weeks, our health care costs will go up—a lot. And not just for us—tens of millions of Americans and their families will be directly impacted by devastating cuts to Medicaid and by other provisions in the bill Senate Republicans are rushing to pass.

Please watch this two-minute video that Leo and I did with MoveOn.org to meet my incredible son and hear our story. Share it far and wide, so people know exactly the kinds of kids and families who will suffer if Republicans pass their health care repeal.

Meet Leo

Not on Facebook, click here to watch it on YouTube

Leo was born with cerebral palsy, and defining him by that and limiting his access to the health care he needs because of the way that he was born is the purest form of discrimination, in my mind. If we can’t afford health insurance, isn’t it the same thing as denying Leo coverage for a pre-existing condition?

There are over 23 million more Americans like me—people who could lose coverage under Trumpcare or no longer be able to afford it. That means tens of millions more who could see protections for pre-existing conditions denied. We all lose out if the Senate acts to take away our coverage and drive up our costs.

Watch this video and check out my son’s story. He loves to dress like Superman, but he needs more than his own superpowers—he needs everyone’s help to succeed. We are all in this together, so please share this video, because every senator needs to see the faces of those of us whose lives they could ruin with this bill before they vote on it, as soon as next week.

For my son and tens of millions more, we have to stop this bill in the Senate.

Thanks for reading.

—Rashelle

NYC: Emergency 24-hour-long health care vigil at the Trump International Hotel

Stop by any time between 5 p.m. on Wednesday and 5 p.m. on Thursday!

Dear MoveOn member,

The Senate may vote on a Trumpcare bill as early as next week, according to the latest news reports.1 And that's why we are taking action now.

Advocates for health care and against this devastating bill are holding a 24-hour-long vigil outside of the Trump International Hotel and Tower at Columbus Circle in Manhattan from 5 p.m. on Wednesday until 5 p.m. on Thursday—bold, visible action to capture media attention, inspire activists around the country, and show the 23 million Americans who would lose health care under Trumpcare that we will not let that happen in silence.

Can you take part in the 24-hour-long vigil to stop Republicans from taking away our health care? (This link will take you to an event page hosted by the organizers of the vigil. By choosing to attend this event, you are acknowledging the risks involved, and you are committing to participate nonviolently and in accordance with the law, and to work to de-escalate confrontations with opposition supporters or others.)

You're welcome to participate for the entire duration of the vigil, but there is no need to go for the full 24 hours if you don't want to or can't.

  • You can join at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, right when the vigil starts.
  • Come at 7 p.m. with fellow members and supporters of Planed Parenthood.
  • Arrive at 8:30 p.m. for a candlelight vigil with leaders from different faiths.
  • Join the bold overnight activists and stay for the Thursday morning press conference at 9 a.m.
  • Or come out during your lunch break on Thursday for a rally at noon.

Or check the event page for the latest schedule updates, and stop by at any time while the 24-hour-long vigil is taking place!

Click here to join this show of resistance against a secret bill moving fast through the Senate that would leave tens of millions of America without insurance and tens of millions more with less protection and higher premiums.

This emergency action is taking place because the Senate is poised to rush through a disastrous bill that's so unpopular that they won't let anyone see it. By all counts, the Senate bill is similar to the House bill, which would take health care away from 23 million Americans, strip protections for pre-existing conditions from 56 million, drive up premiums, and cut over $800 billion from Medicaid.2

We need to show our outrage right now, not when the bill has already passed, but we can still stop it.

We're gathering in New York in front of Donald Trump's hotel to lay our opposition to this bill at his literal doorstep. We're making it clear that we'll keep fighting every step of the way, in every state in the Union, against this cruel legislation.

Join the 24-hour-long vigil on Wednesday or Thursday, whenever you can.

Thanks for all you do.

Secret

The GOP strategy to push through Donald Trump's and Paul Ryan's wildly unpopular agenda couldn't be more obvious: Secrecy and skullduggery.

Dear MoveOn member,

The GOP strategy to push through Donald Trump and Paul Ryan's wildly unpopular agenda couldn't be more obvious:

Secrecy and skullduggery.

A small group of Republican senators is reportedly close to finishing their version of the bill to kill the Affordable Care Act—but their unprecedented behind-closed-doors approach means no one knows what's in it.1 Not the media. Not other Senate Republicans. And certainly not the public.

They're hammering out a bill that’ll upend tens of millions of Americans’ health care and rewire 1/6th of the U.S. economy at small, top-secret lunch and dinner meetings in posh restaurants around Washington, D.C. And then they plan to rush it to a vote with no committee markup, floor debate, or public review. They're even sending the bill to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office for analysis—a requirement that they cannot flout—without sharing the bill with their own Republican colleagues.

And get this: As the media is clamoring for scraps of information, reporters were stunned last week to hear that—in a reversal from years of precedent—they’re no longer allowed to record interviews with members of Congress in the halls of the Capitol.2 Coincidence?

The GOP’s strategy is secrecy and skullduggery. MoveOn and their allies' remedy is to raise a mighty ruckus and keep Mitch McConnell from ramming this massive disaster of a bill through the Senate outside of the public eye.

But MoveOn gets the vast majority of its resources from people like you. Hundreds of thousands of people each year give what they can afford. That’s why I’m asking, Eddie: Will you chip in $3 to help MoveOn stop Trumpcare in the Senate?

Click here to chip in and help stop Trumpcare.

It’s no surprise why Republicans are being secretive about their final bill. The Senate’s second-ranking Republican admitted that the bill will be "80% the same" as the disastrous House bill—which even Trump calls "mean."3 It would yank coverage from 23 million Americans and reverse protections for people with pre-existing conditions.4 Just as in the House bill, we can expect a a not-so-well-disguised massive tax break for the wealthiest 1% of Americans, along with savage cuts to Medicaid, the essential program that provides health insurance coverage to kids, low-income families, and people with disabilities. Cutting Medicaid is wildly unpopular in both blue states and red.5

Republicans also want to cut funding to Planned Parenthood. Again, wildly unpopular.6 Most Americans, including nearly half of Trump voters, oppose defunding Planned Parenthood. One in five women has accessed health care services at Planned Parenthood, and most understand it as an essential resource for sexual and reproductive health care.7

And removing protections for people with pre-existing conditions ... Guess what! Terribly unpopular, too.7

So, of course, Senate Republicans have to keep their cruel bill a secret; they’re afraid of the righteous backlash from their constituents. Which means McConnell's only hope to repeal Obamacare is to railroad this bill through, using all the sweet talk and cajoling, quid pro quos, and threats available to him—and to cut voters out of the process.

That’s unacceptable, and MoveOn will fight tooth and nail to stop it.

MoveOn is driving an avalanche of phone calls, training 1,000 local organizers who'll help hold Congress accountable, releasing hard-hitting videos in each key state that highlight the audacious hypocrisy of each senator, and organizing local events to drive media coverage in the states of key senators who need to know that their constituents are paying attention.

Will you join me in supporting MoveOn's massive campaign to shine a light on the Senate Republicans’ secrecy and skullduggery—and stop the GOP's repeal of Obamacare?

Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can afford.

Thanks for all you do.

RSVP for a Resistance Summer Community Cookout near you!

Summer is here! Let's take time to reflect, recharge, and reconnect with each other and the Resistance!

Hi, Eddie!

It's summertime and the Resistance is on the move. We have marched, protested, called, written, and peacefully resisted the alarming acts of the Trump administration and the complicit Republican Party. The Trump era is a marathon, not a sprint. That's why we have to take the time we need to recharge and make sure we have the energy we need to be effective in the coming weeks and months around campaigns like the fight to save health care for millions of Americans.

That means taking time to connect with each other—over food, fellowship, and even a little fun. It's time to take a moment to celebrate what we’ve achieved—and recharge for the work ahead—with a summer social gathering: a Resistance Summer Community Cookout!

On June 2425 and July 13, MoveOn in partnership with Indivisible, Action Group Network, Wall of Us, and other partner organizations will launch more than 400 Resistance Summer Community Cookouts in 49 states and Washington, D.C.
