Mitch McConnell

Rachel Maddow reminds us that "impeachments are unpredictable." Bombshell evidence dropped "out of the sky" during Richard Nixon's impeachment, forcing Nixon to resign.

Dear MoveOn member,

Rachel Maddow reminds us that "impeachments are unpredictable." Bombshell evidence dropped "out of the sky" during Richard Nixon's impeachment, forcing Nixon to resign.1

Donald Trump is now the third president of the United States impeached by the House of Representatives. We all know that there's more evidence of Trump's transgressions that has yet to be made public. And new polling shows support for Trump's conviction is skyrocketing.2

The impeachment fight is far from over. But with the process now moving to the Senate, we have to face facts: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has no intention of running a serious trial. He's ruled out calling witnesses and openly said that he plans to work with Trump's own lawyers to guarantee acquittal.3

The only way that we'll get a fair trial in the Senate is if Republican senators choose to uphold their constitutional duty. Will you chip in $3 a week to support MoveOn's all-hands-on-deck campaign to pressure senators to do exactly that in 2020? (MoveOn will bill your weekly donation to your credit card once a month starting today and will contact you shortly after Trump is no longer president to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly to help keep MoveOn's impeachment campaign going in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

McConnell knows that the evidence of Trump's high crimes and misdemeanors is overwhelming and that the true facts of the case aren't really even contested. Trump withheld military aid to Ukraine to bribe its president into intervening in our election and helping him win re-election. Then, he obstructed Congress' efforts to investigate.

More than 700 respected historians signed an open letter saying that "President Trump's numerous and flagrant abuses of power are precisely what the framers had in mind as grounds for impeaching and removing a president."4 More than 500 legal scholars signed a similar letter saying that "his conduct is precisely the type of threat to our democracy that the Founders feared when they included the remedy of impeachment in the Constitution."5

Under oath, even Trump's biggest allies admitted that he blatantly sought a quid pro quo, trading official acts for political favors. And we still haven't heard from the White House officials closest to the Ukraine scandal, like John Bolton and Mick Mulvaney.

That's why McConnell knows that his only hope for saving Trump is to make sure that there are no witnesses and no real trial.

But here's McConnell's big problem: If just four Republican senators vote to require witnesses, then his plan for a sham trial goes out the window. Trump loyalists will go on Fox News and lie all day. But under oath, everything changes. Look at how Gordon Sondland changed his tune under oath. The same thing will happen with other witnesses—if we can get just four Republicans to uphold their basic oath of office and vote for a real trial.

That won't be easy, and that's why we're asking you to chip in $3 a week to help fund MoveOn's impeachment work, so that we can go big in 2020 and leave no stone unturned. Are you in? (MoveOn will bill your weekly donation to your credit card once a month starting today and will contact you shortly after Trump is no longer president to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly to help keep MoveOn's impeachment campaign going in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

If we can raise the resources to sustain our campaign, here's what we'll do with it:

  • Expand our billboard campaign to build public support for impeachment. MoveOn needs your help to buy billboards in the districts of on-the-fence Republicans. Our billboards will very visibly help get the truth out about the extent of Trump's crimes—and that Republicans are STILL are defending Trump, even as more and more damning evidence is exposed.
  • Fully fund our team of organizers on the ground in key states. We've recruited and trained an incredible team of organizers in the key states with senators most likely to support a real trial, but we don't yet have the funding we need to pay their salaries through a full Senate trial. This is an absolute must.
  • Take on Trump's lies directly online and on TV. We don't need to counter the millions of dollars that Trump and his enablers are spending to spread lies and misinformation dollar-for-dollar—because the people are on our side. But we do need to have substantial resources to reach the activists who are ready to get involved to tell the truth and give them opportunities to act, such as protesting, calling Congress, and showing up at their lawmakers' offices.
  • Expand our bird-dogging operations in Washington, D.C. For months, MoveOn has been following lawmakers and asking them a simple question: Is it OK for a foreign government to interfere in our elections? Now, we must bring that pressure to on-the-fence Senate Republicans. Wherever they run and hide, we must find them. And when they try to wiggle out of answering our question, we must make sure their constituents know about it.

Mar, our democracy is under attack. History is watching. The House impeached. Now, the Senate must remove. Will you chip in $3 a week to help finish the job and end Trump's criminal presidency? (MoveOn will bill your weekly donation to your credit card once a month starting today and will contact you shortly after Trump is no longer president to see if you want to modify or cancel your weekly donation.)

Yes, I'll chip in weekly to help keep MoveOn's impeachment campaign going for as long as it takes.

No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in weekly.

Thanks for all you do.

Panic in Mitch McConnell’s office

The latest poll by Donald Trump's own pollster put Mitch McConnell in a virtual tie with his top Democratic opponent, who has raised record-setting amounts of money for her campaign.

Dear MoveOn member,

The latest poll by Donald Trump's own pollster put Mitch McConnell in a virtual tie with his top Democratic opponent, who has raised record-setting amounts of money for her campaign.1

Now, McConnell is facing a MASSIVE backlash after he admitted that he's "not an impartial juror" and plans "total coordination" with Trump's team in managing the Senate impeachment trial.2,3

And cracks are finally appearing in the Republican wall of opposition to convicting and removing Trump in the Senate. Last week, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said that she was "disturbed" by McConnell's pledge of "total coordination" with Trump's team on impeachment.4

McConnell's Senate seat and the GOP's control of the Senate have never been more vulnerable than they are right now, but we still face one big problem: McConnell's home state of Kentucky—plus other critical Senate states, Colorado and Maine—are not key battleground states in the 2020 presidential election.

And we can't afford to take away any of the resources from our campaign to beat Trump. That means we need to raise enough money to fund an entire additional Senate election operation on top of everything we're doing to beat Trump.

We MUST defeat Mitch McConnell and other GOP senators in 2020. And we MUST NOT make cuts to our critical work to defeat Donald Trump. Will you start a $5 a month donation to help us defeat McConnell and flip control of the Senate in 2020—without pulling any crucial resources out of our fight to defeat Donald Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

McConnell's handling of the Trump impeachment trial has become a massive political problem for him.

Just a few weeks ago, it was hard to imagine even one Republican senator turning on McConnell. Now, it's the opposite. Murkowski is already calling him out for blatantly failing to uphold his oath of office, and if he keeps turning the Senate trial into a sham, it's not hard to imagine more Republicans coming out against him, especially those facing tough re-election races next year.5

When even Senate Republicans are starting to bail on McConnell, you KNOW he's in trouble.

McConnell also has big problems back home. Matt Bevin, the the McConnell-backed governor of Kentucky, was recently defeated for re-election.6 And Amy McGrath, a McConnell opponent, is flat-out out-fundraising McConnell.7

McConnell's local press is awful, too. A top columnist at the Lexington, KY, newspaper called McConnell "Kentucky's shame."8 And a Kentucky-born law professor just wrote a scathing op-ed in the biggest newspaper in Kentucky, accusing him of breaking two sworn oaths—his oath of office to defend the Constitution and the oath he will take as a juror in Trump's trial.9

Mar, it has never been more clear that we can beat Mitch McConnell and flip control of the Senate, and we can't let this opportunity go by. But we also can't afford to take any resources out of the key battleground states we're working in to beat Donald Trump.

That means we need to raise enough money to fund an entire additional Senate election effort—including advertising, staff, and all of the other campaign infrastructure needed to ditch Mitch and end GOP control of the Senate in 2020.

Will you become a monthly donor today and help us defeat Mitch McConnell and flip control of the Senate in 2020—without scaling back our plans to defeat Donald Trump? $5 a month, or whatever you can afford, will go a long way.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Layoffs (Please read)

This is former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. I'm writing to you today because the media industry is in deep trouble right now.

Hi, fellow MoveOn member,

This is former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. I'm writing to you today because the media industry is in deep trouble right now.

As Facebook and Google become behemoths that gobble up an increasing share of advertising revenue, many media operations have had to lay off staff or shut down completely. More than 7,800 people lost their jobs in the media industry this year, according to Business Insider.1 And according to The New York Times, more than 1,000 local reporters are out of work.2

I launched my own nonprofit media organization, Inequality Media, back in 2014, to help get fact-based videos out there. We've made many "explainer" videos in collaboration with MoveOn—most recently, on how America has socialism for the rich and harsh capitalism for everybody else, and why we need to legalize marijuana. With a small but mighty six-person team, we've created videos and broadcasts that have been viewed over 500 million times.

Because Inequality Media doesn't depend on advertiser dollars or Facebook's algorithm, we are an exception in the turmoil that's hit the media industry this year—but that means we have a responsibility to do even more in 2020, especially given the growing right-wing wave of disinformation and the shrinking unbiased press that we're up against.

We've set a goal of raising $100,000 from MoveOn members by December 31 to achieve our ambitious goals in 2020—ramping up our operation so we can produce ten times the content at ten times the pace. Will you chip in $3, or more if you can?

Yes, I'll help keep Inequality Media strong—as a factual, truthful counterpoint to Fox News, Breitbart News, and the rest of the deceptive right-wing media.

In 2020, we need to double down on our efforts and do even more.

Our current model is operating on a shoe-string budget and putting out just one video a week. In 2020, that just won't cut it. One video a week, no matter how in-depth and well-researched, is simply not enough to combat the one-two punch of the growing right-wing wave of disinformation and the shrinking unbiased press.

That's why we're shifting gears in 2020. With your help, we're going to put out videos every day—short, snappy, but still fully-researched clips that will directly debunk whatever lies the right wing has been spreading that day. And we're launching a YouTube talk show to take on the platform's right-wing radicalization.

We have big plans. But we can't do any of our work without your support. Which is why I'm asking:

Will you chip in $3, or more if you can? Your donation to Inequality Media today will help us blast out more content and educate the public next year. Donations are tax-deductible, and if you chip in by New Year's Day, your donation will be matched dollar for dollar by generous supporters dedicated to our mission.

Yes, I'll make a tax-deductible, matched gift to Inequality Media!

Inequality Media has to do everything we can, day in and day out, to combat the Trump administration's lies with the truth. The right wing has deep-pocket, dark money funders to get its message out there; that's what keeps Fox News and Breitbart News in business.

But we have something much better: We have you.

Will you make a tax-deductible, matched gift to Inequality Media now, and help us start 2020 strong?

Thanks, so much, for all you do.

–Robert Reich

We won't stop until America welcomes all with dignity and respect

Congress failed to #DefundHate this time, but a growing number of elected officials are fighting back.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last week, Congress voted to give U.S. Immigration and U.S. Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) another blank check, but something new happened: 75 representatives and seven senators voted against the bill.

This is important because it shows that our work is having an impact—including actions from tens of thousands of MoveOn members across the country and from immigration groups who have been tirelessly organizing to hold these agencies accountable. We always knew that this would be a long-term fight. And it's important to reflect on milestones like these when they happen, so that we have the reserve needed to continue on.

Through months of negotiations, the Defund Hate coalition, which MoveOn is a part of, with fierce advocates including United We Dream, Detention Watch Network, and Indivisible, made our demands clear: Cut funding for ICE and CBP, and close their loopholes for overspending.

Congress heard the message loud and clear from MoveOn members who signed petitions, made thousands of phone calls, brought the demands to their local lawmakers' offices, and held events like the Close the Camps day of action, which highlighted the abuses happening in immigrant detention and demanded accountability.

Will you watch and share this video to remind your friends why we do this work? Check out this video on Facebook that outlines one of Trump's policies that guts our asylum process.

remain in Mexico video

ICE and CBP spending was a crucial piece of the negotiation. Countless articles cited it as a top priority for both Democrats and the president. And in the end, Democratic leadership caved to secure wins in other areas.

But a large number of elected officials fought back to say no. They won't continue pouring money into the agencies attacking immigrants and flagrantly overspending without any accountability.

Funding to ICE and CBP has never decreased in either agency's history, and increases have been proposed by both Democrats and Republicans. Having a growing number of elected officials who refuse to support bills that inflict harm on immigrants shows the huge progress the Defund Hate coalition has made, and sets us up for wins in the future.

Democrats just spent months fighting against these out-of-control agencies. Now, they need to increase pressure until ICE and CBP are no longer designed to harm, but rather to treat immigrants, asylum-seekers, and refugees with dignity and respect.

And we'll be there every step of the way, ensuring Congress continues to make it a top priority to create an America that welcomes and where people are free to move and free to stay.

Thanks for all you do.

Impeachment: what happened, what's next

MoveOn members' actions helped lead to the impeachment of Donald Trump. And our work will be critical for what comes next.
Images of "Impeach and Remove" actions from around the country
Dear MoveOn member,

On Wednesday, December 18, the United States House of Representatives impeached Donald Trump.

This is a critical milestone in the fight to hold Trump accountable, protect our democracy, and demonstrate that nobody is above the law. This heroic achievement is a testament to the strength of grassroots action of a people-powered movement, including millions of MoveOn members. Thank you for all you've done to stand up for our democracy—and we invite you to join us for the next steps because we're not finished.

What's next? A fight in the Senate to hold Trump accountable for his corrupt and self-serving attacks on our elections, national security, and the Constitution—and to demand that Republicans choose their country over their loyalty to Trump. And it's a moment that needs all of us.

Can you join us for a national organizing call on Sunday, January 5? We'll hear from leading strategists who will lay out what to expect in the Senate phase of the process, our strategy, and how you can make an impact.

It was not an easy path to this critical moment. Though MoveOn members called for Trump's impeachment in June 2017 and have campaigned tirelessly to build support for the case to hold him accountable and declare that nobody is above the law ever since, many Democrats were too timid to discuss impeachment as recently as a few months ago—and Republicans continue to actively defend and enable Trump to this day. A few short months ago, many were crowing that "the impeachment dream is dead."1

But thanks in part to efforts of MoveOn members, we moved the Democratic caucus, moved the national discourse, and turned impeachment from "dead" to done!

On the eve of the impeachment vote we came together with allies at 600+ volunteer-led events in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., to demand that Congress impeach and remove Donald Trump.

And in the months leading up to last week, MoveOn members:
  • Made more than 100,000 calls to House and Senate offices to demand that Congress hold Trump accountable.
  • Powered billboards, TV ads, and videos seen millions of times, making the case for impeachment and calling out the Republicans who chose party over country.
  • Joined and led actions through the spring, summer, and fall outside congressional offices to build the drumbeat for this moment.
  • Participated in a record-setting petition delivery of 10 million signatures calling for impeachment.
We're not finished yet. We have organizers in Maine, Arizona, Colorado, and Kentucky working with MoveOn members, local allies, and other voters to keep up constituent pressure on senators and generate local news coverage. And we're launching mobile billboards in critical states in the new year to continue to drive the narrative. We'll continue bird-dogging senators on Capitol Hill when they return from recess. And there are more plans in the works.

The fight in the Senate is unpredictable. This is only the third time in history the Senate has taken up an impeachment trial. We know that Mitch McConnell is actively coordinating with the White House to deny the American people a fair impeachment trial and rig the outcome to ensure that Trump remains above the law. We know that Republicans seem more afraid of Trump's wrath than they are concerned about defending our Constitution and protecting the integrity of our upcoming elections.

The unlikely arc to making impeachment a reality shows us that we cannot afford to let conventional wisdom stop us from doing what we know is right. There is so much more that could be revealed about Trump's crimes and corruption. There are Republicans around the country who are fed up with his abuses of power. And we know that we have people power on our side—that all of us together are able to accomplish so much to defend our democracy and stand up to the abuses of this administration.

So join us on January 5 to be part of the strategy conversation about what comes next. Just click here to RSVP for the national call.

Thanks for all you do.

Can we send you a free "Impeached!" sticker?

It's official: The House has voted to impeach Donald Trump, making him only the third president in United States history to achieve such an infamous designation.

Dear MoveOn member,

It's official: The House has voted to impeach Donald Trump, making him only the third president in United States history to achieve such an infamous designation.

This is an enormous milestone, driven in large part by the work of MoveOn members like you, Mar.

To mark this momentous event—and to remind the senators who will now pick up the impeachment process that no one is above the law—MoveOn has printed a big batch of impeachment stickers, and we're giving them away for free. Over 100,000 MoveOn members have already ordered their stickers, and this is your last chance to get yours before we run out.

Just click here or on the image below to order your free sticker now!

As we move into the next phase of the impeach and remove fight, let's not forget just how much work went into building a movement to make Trump's impeachment possible.

MoveOn called for Trump's impeachment over two years ago, after his first attempt to obstruct the investigation into Russian meddling into our election, and ever since, MoveOn members and our allies have been steadily growing a coalition of support for impeachment in the face of Trump's continued, blatant, and unrepentant criminality.

Although the House voted to impeach Trump on only two counts—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—they point to the larger pattern of his corruption and cruelty.

As the Mueller report laid out, Trump attempted to obstruct that investigation at least ten times, and he encouraged contact between his campaign and Russian agents.

Not only did he attempt to bribe Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 election, he openly called for China to do the same, and then directed his administration to refuse to cooperate with the House's investigation of those efforts.

And most heinously, he violated international law by ripping children from their families at the border and holding immigrants and asylum-seekers in concentration camps, often without access to food, water, hygiene products, or medicine.

Donald Trump may not have earned much in his life on his own, but he earned his impeachment.

Now, let's spread the word that Trump is not above the law and make sure that the Senate does its job by convicting and removing him from office.

Sign this petition re: impeachment trial in the Senate

Sign this petition demanding that Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans allow direct witnesses to testify in the Senate impeachment trial.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Mitch McConnell stated this week that he will not allow any direct witnesses to testify in the Senate impeachment trial against Donald Trump.1 This is unacceptable. Mitch McConnell is not fulfilling his oath of office as Senate majority leader. He should call all direct witnesses to testify, because Americans have a right to know the truth.

Mitch McConnell cannot continue to rig the system in favor of a corrupt and bigoted administration.

Will you sign the petition demanding that Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans allow witnesses to testify in a fair impeachment trial in the Senate?

Sign this petition demanding that Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans allow direct witnesses to testify in the Senate impeachment trial.

The House of Representatives impeaching a sitting president is historic and deserves to be taken seriously by the Senate. Unfortunately, however, Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans are falling into their political lines and staying complicit with the greed and corruption of this administration.

If Mitch McConnell continues to stop witnesses from speaking in front of the Senate, he is protecting an administration rife with bribery, obstruction of justice, and corruption.

If this administration has done no wrongdoing, then these direct witnesses will be able to provide President Trump some very much needed exculpatory evidence. If there was no wrongdoing, Republicans, McConnell, and this administration should have nothing to fear from the questioning of first-hand witnesses.

First-hand, direct witnesses should be required to testify in front of the Senate for a fair impeachment trial. The American public has a right to hear the truth.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks for all you do.

Thank you from Impeach and Remove Rally hosts

Friends,

We did it! We came together despite the weather and the denial of our permit and exercised our constitutional right to speak out! We marched for democracy and the rule of law. As Aylett Colston said on Tuesday night: "The first three words in the constitution are  'We the people' - and that is us."

Thank you all for coming out on Tuesday to make history, some from far away. We loved your signs, your enthusiasm and your commitment to a peaceful evening of protest.

Many thanks to our inspiring speakers: State Senator Erica D SmithGerald Givens, President Raleigh Apex NAACP, Faisal Khan, Carolina Peace Center, Aylett Colston, Attorney, Raleigh Apex NAACP, Rabbi Raachel Jurovics, Yavnah: A Jewish Renewal Community, Bob Phillips, Common Cause NC and Joy Weeber, Disability Advocate. Thanks to our musicians Randa McNamara and Michael Flaherty. Thanks to our marshals and the Raleigh police, who kept things moving along safely and peacefully. Thanks to those of you who cheerfully helped out when asked. We are so proud to be a part of such a wonderful community of activists.

Impeachment has happened. Right now, it is vitally important that we keep the pressure on our representatives. We know that Senators Tillis and Burr are probably not going to vote to remove, but they still need to hear very clearly what we think. Please call them daily at (202) 224-3121 and let them know that our President should not be above the law.

You are all invited to continue to protest with Tuesdays with Tillis every Tuesday, 11:30-12:30, in front of the Terry Sanford Federal Building. This week, we are demanding that Tillls and Burr Vote to Remove. If you can't make it, you are welcome to keep up with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, MeWe or our newsletter. We look forward to continuing our work together.

Thank you all for standing up for our democracy.

What's next on impeachment?

Last night, Donald Trump became only the third president—in all of American history—to be impeached.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last night, Donald Trump became only the third president—in all of American history—to be impeached.

Now, the impeachment fight moves to the Senate, where anything could happen. Because, as Rachel Maddow recently reminded us, "impeachments are unpredictable".1

Bombshell evidence dropped "out of the sky" during Richard Nixon's impeachment, causing what had been "unimaginable defection from Richard Nixon's camp," including members of Congress who had led his defense.2 And he was forced to resign.

To force Trump's conviction—or resignation—we must be steadfast and unrelenting, keeping a laser focus on what we can do to pressure on-the-fence Republicans to support a fair trial.

MoveOn is ready to spring into action to put maximum pressure on persuadable Republican senators to agree to a fair trial. But we've been going all-out on impeachment for weeks now, and we need to raise $500,000 in the next 24 hours to launch billboards targeting senators, extend the contracts of our organizers on the ground in key states, print more materials for protests and rallies outside senators' offices, and more.

Will you rush a $3 donation right now to help CONVICT and REMOVE Donald Trump from office?

We will not stop until the final vote in the Senate is cast. And we will never give up when it comes to defending our democracy.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said that the Senate will conduct the trial in "total coordination" with the White House.3

But it's not just up to him. A majority of senators need to agree on the rules for Trump's impeachment trial, and that means that only four Republican senators need to insist on a fair trial.

If McConnell gets his way, the Senate trial will be a total sham. But, if we keep taking to the streets, rising up, and being loud, and if we convince four Republicans to insist on a real trial, with a full accounting of the evidence, we can prevail—just like when, through our grassroots activism, we stopped McConnell from repealing the Affordable Care Act.

Which is exactly what we will do, with your help.

Will you rush a $3 donation right now to help CONVICT and REMOVE Donald Trump from office?

With your help, we will:

  • Expand our billboard campaign to build public support for impeachment. MoveOn needs your help to buy billboards in the districts of on-the-fence Republicans. Our billboards will very visibly help get the truth out about the extent of Trump's crimes—and that Republicans STILL are defending Trump, even as more and more damning evidence is exposed.
  • Fully fund our team of organizers on the ground in key states. We've recruited and trained an incredible team of organizers in the key states with senators most likely to support a real trial, but we don't yet have the funding we need to pay for their salaries through a full Senate trial. This is an absolute must.
  • Take on Trump's lies directly online and on TV. We don't need to counter the millions of dollars that Trump and his enablers are spending to spread lies and misinformation dollar-for-dollar—because the people are on our side. But we do need to have substantial resources to reach the activists who are ready to get involved to tell the truth and give them opportunities to act, like protesting, calling Congress, and showing up at their lawmakers' offices.
  • Expand our bird-dogging operations in Washington, D.C. For months, MoveOn has been following lawmakers to ask them a simple question: Is it OK for a foreign government to interfere in our elections? Now, we must bring that pressure to on-the-fence Senate Republicans. Wherever they run and hide, we must find them. And when they try to wiggle out of answering our question, we must make sure their constituents know about it.

We have a historic chance now to convict and remove Donald Trump in the Senate—if we seize it. Please chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—right now to help finish the job and end Trump's lawless presidency.

Thanks for all you do.

Can we send you a free sticker?

It's official: The House has just voted to impeach Donald Trump, making him only the third president in United States history to achieve such an infamous designation.

Dear MoveOn member,

It's official: The House has just voted to impeach Donald Trump, making him only the third president in United States history to achieve such an infamous designation.

This is an enormous milestone, driven in large part by the work of MoveOn members like you, Mar.

To mark this momentous day—and to remind the senators who will now pick up the process that no one is above the law—MoveOn has printed a big batch of these impeachment stickers, and we're giving them away for free while supplies last.

Just click here or on the image below to order yours now!

As we move into this next phase of the impeachment and removal fight, let's not forget just how much work went into building a movement to make this day possible.

MoveOn called for Trump's impeachment over two years ago, after his first attempts to obstruct the investigation into Russian election meddling, and ever since, MoveOn members and our allies have been steadily growing a coalition of support for impeachment in the face of Trump's continued, blatant, and unrepentant criminality.

Although the House voted to impeach Trump on only two counts—abuse of power and obstruction of Congress—they point to the larger pattern of his corruption and cruelty.

As the Mueller report laid out, Trump attempted to obstruct that investigation at least ten times, and he encouraged contacts between his campaign and Russian agents.

Not only did he attempt to bribe Ukraine into interfering in the 2020 elections, he then openly called for China to do the same and directed his administration to refuse to cooperate with the House's investigation of those efforts.

And most heinously, he violated international law by ripping children from their families at the border and holding immigrants and asylum-seekers in concentration camps, often without access to food, water, hygiene products, or medicine.

Donald Trump may not have earned much in his life on his own, but he earned his impeachment.

Now let's spread the word that Trump is not above the law and make sure that the Senate does its job by convicting and removing him from office.

Curious: Why did you join the Impeach & Remove event?

We want to hear from you. Can you take a quick survey about your Impeach & Remove event?

Dear Mar,

Today, history has its eyes on Congress—but last night, we couldn't take our eyes off of you.

With more than 600 events in all 50 states, you showed our entire country exactly what democracy means: people demanding better from our representatives by reminding them that no one is above the law, not even the president.

Was the Impeach and Remove event everything you wanted it to be? What were the highlights? Do you have feedback for the organizers? Click here to fill out a brief survey to let us know how the event went, and we'll share it with the Nobody Is Above the Law coalition.

On a national scale, there is no doubt: this mobilization met a historic moment. Below are just a few pictures from around the country:

protests from across the country

Take it in. That's you out there.

Here's the bottom line: this mobilization brought people across the country into the streets. What about these events brought you out? What will you remember from this experience? Take a quick survey and let us know.

If it sweetens the deal, the video clip from the Rachel Maddow show last night highlighting our nationwide events awaits you on the page you'll see after completing the survey. :)

Thanks for all you do.

Important updates about Impeachment Event tonight

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for signing up for this crucial national mobilization.  As you know, there are now over 600 events in all 50 states; in Raleigh alone over 2200 people have signed up.  This evening will be a pivotal moment in the history of this country.

If you can't come and even if you can:  Don't forget that another important way we can show our support for the impeachment and removal of this president is by calling Senators and Representatives.  Phone numbers are the end of this letter.  Call every day.

Some important details about tonight:

This is a peaceful protest.  The Capital police (different from the Raleigh police) are not giving us a permit.  We are not sure exactly why or exactly what this means.  We do know that we must take good care of ourselves and each other to make sure everyone is safe.  Please be respectful to the police; they are supporting our consititutional right to peaceful assembly.  These are not the same people who refused our permit.

If there are counterprotesters, please do not engage with them in any way unless you are completely comfortable with your skills in de-escalation.

Bring a flashlight.  Do not bring weapons or carry signs on sticks.

It most likely will be raining, so do whatever you can to be as comfortable as possible in the rain.  Also be prepared for cooler temperatures in the evening.

We plan to start at 5:30 pm in Bicentennial Plaza (not Bicentennial Mall)  between Jones and East Edenton St, beginning near Jones Street and eventually marching toward and then around the Capital Building before returning to where we started.  There will be a vigil in the plaza for people who are unable to walk this distance.

Parking on the street in Raleigh is free after 5 pm; before that there are meters.  I am going to try again with a map of the area.  There are two parking decks on Edenton St; one of them has an entrance on Jones St.

In case you missed it, here is a link to Rachel Maddow's show last night in which she talked about this national mobilization.

If you take pictures, you can send them to photos@moveon.org.  Videos can be sent there too.  The social media hashtag is #NotAboveTheLaw.

This event is being hosted by Tuesdays with Tillis.  We protest every single week (rain or shine) from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at 310 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh 27601.  Everyone is invited to join us any week and to sign up for our newsletter

This effort has already been so inspiring.  Even if it rains, tonight will be great.  See you soon.

Reminder: Your Nobody Is Above the Law protest for impeachment is TODAY!

On #ImpeachmentEve, we're taking to the streets to demand Congress impeach and remove Donald Trump.

Dear Mar,

Your Nobody is Above the Law event is today!

Today, on #ImpeachmentEve, over 500 events will take place across the country, where we'll gather to demand Congress impeach and remove Donald Trump for his abuse of power and obstruction of justice. This is a key moment in the fight, as it's the last thing lawmakers will hear from their constituents before the House votes to impeach Trump and then sends the impeachment process to the Republican-held Senate. Members of Congress need to hear that the majority of Americans want them to uphold our Constitution and hold Trump accountable.

Here are the details of your event:

What: Nobody Is Above the Law mobilization
When: Tuesday, December 17, 5:30 PM
Where: Bicentennial Plaza
1 E Edenton St, Raleigh, NC 27601

Your Event Dashboard, where you can contact your host, invite friends, and more is here:

Here are a few tips to ensure that you have a great experience and make the biggest impact:

  • Amplify your impact via social media! Post photos on social media using the hashtags #NotAboveTheLaw and #ImpeachmentEve. Hashtags help folks all across the country see the work that you're doing. Email photos to photos@moveon.org with your city and state in the subject line, so we can help spread your message.

  • Invite your friends. Call, text, Snapchat, and spread the word to friends and family to ask them to come along—events are happening everywhere.
  • Be on the lookout for changes: there is some severe weather in the midwest, so be safe and read any messages from your local event host for last minute changes.

  • Lead some songs and chants. Check out the suggested songs and chants here and think of your own to belt out at your event.

  • Bring signs. Download signs and get inspiration for homemade signs from the materials posted here.
  • We appreciate your commitment to engage in nonviolent, peaceful action, act lawfully, and strive to de-escalate any potential confrontations with those who may disagree with our values. Be sure to review these de-escalation tips ahead of time.

Already, press coverage is rolling in, lifting up our voices and making it clear to our members of Congress that we're paying attention and that we expect them to prove that Nobody Is Above the Law. Make a difference today, but be safe.

Thank you for being part of this nationwide movement for justice, and thanks for all you do.

Weekend impeachment update

I will keep this email short and to the point: The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the impeachment of Donald Trump just 72 hours from now, and I am asking you to chip in to help fund MoveOn's all-hands-on deck impeachment effort.

Hi, fellow MoveOn member!

I will keep this email short and to the point: The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the impeachment of Donald Trump just 72 hours from now, and I am asking you to chip in $3 to help fund MoveOn's all-hands-on deck impeachment effort.

MoveOn is doing all it can to make sure that the House votes on Wednesday to impeach Trump. Your donation to MoveOn will be put to immediate use to do all this:

  • Turn out protesters in communities across the country the night before the House vote. More than 100,000 people in all 50 states have now signed up to attend rallies on the eve of the House vote to call on Congress to impeach and remove Trump. There's been a huge surge of activism and public support for impeachment over the past few days, and MoveOn needs to keep up the momentum to increase the number of events and the turnout. MoveOn needs to raise enough money to make sure that these protests are seen by millions by promoting them online and through social networks and earned media, to fly in organizers, to rent stages and audio equipment, to print and ship signs and other materials, to do enough press pitches to propel these events to the front pages of local papers, to coordinate with dozens of organizations on the ground, and more.
  • Keep camera crews at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., to confront members of Congress. MoveOn activists have been asking a very simple question of Republicans: Is it OK for a president to solicit help from a foreign government to win an election? Republicans are literally running and hiding to avoid answering this question, so MoveOn is focusing on the Republicans most likely to break with Trump, capturing their responses, featuring it in digital videos, and sharing the videos far and wide to ramp up the pressure they feel.
  • Keep phones ringing off the hook. MoveOn's most efficient way to connect droves of activists to their lawmakers costs about $2 per phone call. It requires dedicated analyst time, payments to MoveOn's call vendor for every single call—which add up quickly—and legal costs, too, because the rules in every state are different. And while there are cheaper ways to connect some (smaller) number of calls, MoveOn simply can't connect anywhere close to this volume of calls any other way.

This is a historic moment. If you're anything like me, when you think back on this moment years from now, you'll want to be sure that you did everything you could, left no stone unturned, and gave this fight your all.

I'm sending you this email today because I want to do everything I can to support MoveOn's impeachment effort, and the best way that I can do that is by making sure that millions of people around the country get this message and chip in what they can to MoveOn. We need you, Mar.

Please. Chip in $3 now and help fund MoveOn's all-hands-on-deck push to impeach Donald Trump.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

Raleigh Impeach and Remove Rally on Tuesday

Dear Friends,

Our Raleigh Impeach and Remove event is set for Tuesday, December 17 at 5:30 in Bicentennial Plaza. The impeachment vote is scheduled for Wednesday, 12/18, but even if that schedule changes, we will still protest on Tuesday evening.

We are very excited to have some fantastic speakers, musicians and over 1500 attendees! We will start with a rally at 5:30, have a march (under 1 mile) around the Capitol Building or a vigil in the plaza and then a closing rally back in Bicentennial Plaza.

Please keep inviting people to this event. You can use this link to spread the word by email and social media.  Send it far and wide so people can find the event closest to them. On social media before and after the event, use the hashtag #NotAboveTheLaw. If you take pictures during the event, please send them to photos@moveon.org

The sun will be setting as we gather, so bring a flashlight if you have one. Signs and costumes are welcome. If you can't get there at 5:30, no worries, we will be there until 7:30 at least.

Above all, we want to have a peaceful protest, one in which children and physically fragile people can be safe and we all feel comfortable. If there are counter protestors, don't engage them. We also want to be respectful to the police. If we all are vigilant keeping each other safe and being welcoming and friendly, we will have a great rally.

Thank you for your support of democracy, the rule of law and our constitution at this crucial time in our country's history. You are making public support for impeachment visible.

Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns. You can also post questions on our facebook event. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday!

Sincerely,

Karen, Mike, and Marci

Confirmed for TUESDAY (12/17): Nobody Is Above the Law events to Impeach & Remove

We're taking to the streets on Tuesday to demand Congress impeach and remove our criminal-in-chief.

Dear Mar,

It is official: The House is expected to vote on Wednesday on the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump.

The Nobody Is Above the Law mobilization will take place on Tuesday, December 17, the eve of this pivotal vote. Together, at more than 450 events across all 50 states, we will deliver the closing arguments for the House of Representatives to impeach Trump and call on the Senate to remove him.

You've signed up for the Nobody Is Above the Law event in Raleigh.

Here is the page for your Raleigh event, which your event host will keep updated with the date, time, and location of the event.

The host has been notified of the mobilization date, but if you arrive at the page before they have a chance to update the event date and time, please check back soon. We'll also send you a reminder email on Tuesday morning to confirm the details. Hosts have the final say on the date and time of their events, in case it differs from the national plan.

More than 100,000 people are planning to take to the streets to declare that nobody is above the law. As the pivotal vote nears, more people will want to join you in action. Know anyone who wants to join? Click here to send an email inviting people to join you or click here to share the image below on Facebook

impeach and remove sign

After inviting your friends and family, head over to the resources page to print a sign or learn some chants before your rally on Tuesday.

It is clear that Donald Trump abused his power and put his personal and political interests ahead of the American people's. In more than two hundred years of history, only two presidents have been impeached by the House. We need to make sure Trump is the third. This is historic, somber, and necessary: Impeachment exists in the Constitution to protect our democracy.

Thanks for all you do.

Add your name: Donald Trump Jr.

Will you sign the petition to urge the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to bar Donald Trump Jr. from importing his endangered "trophy" home?

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump Jr. recently went to Mongolia with taxpayer-funded support after purchasing a hunting trip at a charity auction to benefit the National Rifle Association (NRA). While in Mongolia, Trump Jr. shot and killed a rare argali sheep that is listed and protected as "Threatened" in Mongolia under the Endangered Species Act.1

Sign the petition to urge the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to bar Donald Trump Jr. from importing his endangered "trophy" home.

Deny Donald Trump Jr. a permit to import a protected sheep trophy and investigate whether he illegally brought the body parts back into the United States.

Trump Jr. did not reportedly have a permit to kill the imperiled argali sheep at the time of his hunt and was granted one retroactively after he had left the region.

The argali sheep is threatened by agriculture and energy production and is listed as "Decreasing" by the IUCN Red List.

As part of this process, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service considers whether local, national, and multinational laws and regulations are followed and whether the killing of animals is beneficial to conservation as a part of the importation process. As Mr. Trump received a permit for his trophy hunting only after he had killed the imperiled species and was likely able to do so only because of his father's position, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service should reject any forthcoming import request from Mr. Trump and ascertain whether he has already imported the carcass in violation of U.S. law.
