Remove Devin Nunes

Click here to sign and share my petition pressuring Speaker Paul Ryan to remove Representative Devin Nunes from participating in the Russia investigation completely.

Remove Representative Devin Nunes

Rep. Nunes must be removed from participating in the Russia investigation, so we can get the answers we deserve.

Dear MoveOn member,

The FBI just challenged the accuracy of the so-called "Nunes memo"—a document that was drafted at the direction of the House Intelligence Committee's GOP chairman and Trump crony, Rep. Devin Nunes.1

This memo is just the latest in a long string of attempts by Republicans in Congress to undermine and smear Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Donald Trump and his team's connection to Russian efforts to meddle in U.S. elections.

Rep. Nunes' attacks on the integrity of the Mueller investigation are a shameful partisan stunt. Click here to sign and share my petition pressuring Speaker Paul Ryan to remove Nunes from participating in the Russia investigation completely.

We can't allow Rep. Nunes to continue spreading unfounded innuendo about the Russia probe to undermine its credibility. Last year, Rep. Nunes had said he'd remove himself from this investigation due to conflicts of interest, but instead has sought to misdirect the committee's investigation and disrupt Mueller's work.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

If Trump fires Mueller ...

An alarming series of events over the last few days make clear that Trump's team is actively laying he groundwork to remove Mueller or to remove Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller's investigation.

MoveOn members are stepping up to defend Robert Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation. And we're out in force! Can you sign up now to attend an action? An alarming series of events over the last few days make clear that Trump's team is actively laying he groundwork to remove Mueller or to remove Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller's investigation.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump tried to fire Robert Mueller, the special counsel leading the only independent federal probe into Trump's Russia ties.1 And though Trump was stopped last summer, we have every reason to believe that his administration and some Republican members of Congress continue to actively lay the groundwork to discredit and remove Mueller and now Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller's investigation.

That's why MoveOn members and allies have been signing up by the hundreds of thousands for rapid-response actions to defend the Trump-Russia investigation.

Will you RSVP now to one of our more than 700 events around the country so that you'll be notified of an action near you if Mueller is fired? (And if there isn't an event near you, will you consider signing up to host?)

Thus far, a stunning 200,000 people have signed up to hit the streets in over 700 actions to defend our democracy should the Trump-Russia investigation be threatened, successfully signaling to national media and congressional Republicans that the American people demand that truth and that the rule of law will prevail.

Here's a little more background on what's been moving over the past 72 hours and why this is both an urgent and perilous moment. GOP members of the House Intelligence Committee, chaired by Representative Devin Nunes, just voted to release a memo which many believe will set the stage for the dismissal of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Special Counsel Robert Muller and is overseeing Mueller's Trump-Russia investigation.2

Congressional opponents have blasted the memo, saying it's "profoundly misleading" and dangerous.3 The Department of Justice called Nunes' plan to release the memo "extraordinarily reckless" and a threat to national security.4

That's why, especially today—just hours from Donald Trump's State of the Union address—MoveOn and our allies are doubling down to strengthen the "Nobody Is Above the Law" network and expand its ability to defend our democracy against these escalating attacks. And we need you to help sound the alarm.

Please. Will you take five minutes and sign up to defend the Mueller investigation?

You can read on to see MoveOn's email from last month for more context.

Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump, Fox News, and the GOP are coming for Special Counsel Robert Mueller—looking to upend the federal criminal investigation into possible collusion with Russia in the 2016 presidential election, and subsequent efforts to cover it up.

That's why MoveOn members and our allies from 25 major national organizations are out in force, preemptively planning "Nobody Is Above the Law" rapid-response actions across the country, ready to deploy if Trump fires Mueller.

This collective organizing is a powerful signal to Trump and the GOP that people in cities and towns across the nation are paying attention to the attacks on Mueller and are ready to defend our democracy and the rule of law. And the actions are already earning national media attention with headlines such as "Americans Will March in the Streets in 48 U.S. States If Trump Fires Robert Mueller."1

There are more than 600 actions nationwide—now in all 50 states.2 Let's double the number of possible attendees, and let's make sure there are actions to defend the Mueller investigation all across the nation.

Click here to find an action in your local area, and if you don't see one, please consider signing up to host. (MoveOn's team will be with you every step of the way.)

Six months ago, when Mueller was put in charge of the Trump-Russia investigation, Republicans were glowing about his record and fitness for the task. But now that the investigation has landed its first guilty pleas, attacks on Mueller and the investigation are coming from all parts of the GOP message machine.3

And despite his recent comments to the contrary, Trump himself has thrown a relentless barrage of insults and threats at Mueller and the investigation.4

Trump's lawyers have even called for an absurd second special counsel to investigate the investigation.5 And right-wing pundits on Fox News have been acting as wingmen, creating scandals out of thin air and casting doubt.

As Mueller digs deeper and deeper into Trump's finances and possible obstruction of justice, the risk that Trump will take unilateral action only increases.6

So here's the plan: If Trump fires Mueller before 2:00 p.m. local time on any given day, MoveOn members and our allies will be in the streets at 5:00 p.m. local time the same day. If news breaks later in the day, we will rally at noon the following day.

Our response in the hours following an authoritarian move to put Trump above the law will help drive the national media narrative and could certainly help determine whether we're able to make sure Congress holds Trump accountable.

Click here to find a "Nobody Is Above the Law" action in your local area. And if you don't see one, please consider signing up to host.

MoveOn members have been a first line of defense against Trump's corruption for more than a year, helping to win Steve Bannon's removal, force Jeff Sessions' recusal from the Trump-Russia investigation, and shine a relentless light on Republican hypocrisy.7

By packing congressional hearing rooms and generating hundreds of thousands of petition signatures and tens of thousands of calls, we've also ensured that Democrats in Congress know we'll have their backs when they step up to fight Trump's corruption and demand the truth about Trump-Russia that our nation both deserves and desperately needs.

Most recently, we've helped champion bipartisan legislation in Congress to prevent Trump from firing Mueller. And we'll continue to do this kind of dogged, proactive work, so that we hopefully never have to respond to a firing of the team investigating the president. But with the stakes this high for our country, we need to simultaneously prepare for the kind of constitutional crisis that would occur should Trump fire Mueller.

Together, we're saying through our actions—again and again—that no one is above the law and that we're prepared to defend our democracy—for as long as it takes.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition re: State of the Union speech

Will you sign and share the petition demanding that CNN and other networks air a response from the Resistance after Trump's State of the Union speech?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

As a powerful force for political and social change in America, the Resistance deserves to have a prominent platform to respond to Donald Trump's State of the Union speech next week.

The Resistance—led mainly by women—is a movement of citizen activists opposing the harmful policies of the Trump administration and its Republican accomplices in Congress. Women who have never engaged deeply with the political process before have been driven to take action. They're starting new advocacy and candidate training organizations, and they're running for office in record numbers.1

Tell CNN and other news networks to air a response from the Resistance after Trump's State of the Union speech on January 30.

The Resistance is not slowing down; millions of women and caring allies marched the day after Trump's inauguration in 2017, and people marched in record numbers again this month, around the country.

Tell CNN and other networks to air a State of the Union response from the Resistance.

Movement leaders who have been working in the fights for racial justice, immigration justice, voting rights, LGBTQIA rights, health care, economic justice, and more, are ready to respond.

Activists, organizing on a scale never seen before in the history of our nation, are working to change America at the grassroots level, and they should have an opportunity to respond to Trump's speech. During the Obama presidency, cable news broadcast a Tea Party rebuttal separate from the Republican rebuttal after his State of the Union speech. The Resistance is broader than the Tea Party ever was—and the Resistance has a different message than the Democratic Party; it deserves its own televised response.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to all of your friends and family who go with you to rallies, marches, local organizing meetings, and town halls, or otherwise inspire you to resist!

Thanks!

Hey, it's Mark!

I'm joining Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Wanda Sykes, Common, and Andra Day, along with leading activists, organizers, and MoveOn, at this inspirational and energizing event that will help kick off the second year of our powerful and still growing Resistance movement.

Dear MoveOn member,

On Tuesday night, Donald Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address before Congress.

If you're like me, you don't want to watch a speech that is sure to focus on bashing immigrants, the press, women, and democratic American institutions. I personally have better and more hopeful, reality-based, and positive things to do with my time.

That's why I'm going to be part of the People's State of the Union, an address from the people's perspective. It will feature many partners, allies, and friends from the Resistance movement and celebrate what we have accomplished, organize around what we need to do, and affirm the breadth and depth of the greatest political movement since the Civil Rights era.

I'm joining Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Wanda Sykes, Common, and Andra Day, along with leading activists, organizers, and MoveOn, at this inspirational and energizing event that will help kick off the second year of our powerful and still growing Resistance movement.

And I'm helping MoveOn raise the money for this event, and so it can help lead the Resistance this year—when we not only need to stop Trump and the GOP's harmful agenda but also help progressive candidates across the country win in November. Will you chip in $3 to help out?

Yes, I'll chip in now to help fund MoveOn's work leading the Resistance, from protecting Dreamers to winning big at the polls this November.

The event will take place at the Town Hall Theater in New York City, a hall started by suffragettes, where great leaders such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Langston Hughes, and Joan Baez have spoken and performed. We're planning to showcase the activists and organizers who have truly led the Resistance over the past year—because they're the real celebrities.

As we think about the state of our union, we recognize that our country has taken some steps backward, and that Trump and the GOP's radical, divisive agenda has caused people real harm.

But we've also built something beautiful.

Movements have come together in an amazing way, and we've won some incredible victories, including saving health care and starting a wave of progressive electoral wins. We put Doug Jones in the Senate and won numerous state-level elections with inspirational, diverse candidates, like we did in Virginia.

At the People's State of the Union on Monday, we're going to celebrate those victories and chart the path forward to more victories in 2018. Together, our movement can win back our country!

To do so, it's going to take all of us organizing, rallying, and donating to make it all possible. So please, Eddie, pitch in to support MoveOn's powerful organizing in 2018, as we work to protect our country and democracy and win big at the ballot boxes this November.

Click here now to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to help fund MoveOn's work leading the Resistance, from protecting Dreamers to winning big at the polls this November.

Yours in solidarity,

–Mark

FW: All hands on deck

Our problems go far beyond one sociopath president. The mission that we are on and the work that we must do is to tear down the rigged system that produced Trump in the first place. We must imagine the America that we want to live in. We must create the post-Trump America.

Hi Eddie—I want you make sure you saw my note and the exciting news.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Donald J. Trump has proven himself to be completely unfit for office, a threat to our country, and an imminent danger to the world. He is not well; he is a malignant narcissist and an active sociopath. And because he holds the codes to fire nuclear weapons, he is a singular threat to humanity.

This situation is a nightmare. And the only reason that things aren't FAR WORSE than they already are is that millions of us have come together to engage in our democracy, resist, and organize.

But our problems go far beyond one sociopath president. The mission that we are on and the work that we must do is to tear down the rigged system that produced Trump in the first place. We must imagine the America that we want to live in. We must create the post-Trump America.

And this is actually possible: The fierce, determined Resistance movement that began after Trump's election could create an avalanche at the polls this November. Together, we can stop Trump and the GOP and begin the work of creating the country that we imagined.

That's why I'm doing everything I can, including taking part in the People's State of the Union on Monday—a high-profile, energizing event the night before Trump's State of the Union address. And I hope that you will do everything you can, too.

So here's my request to you: If you can swing it, will you chip in to MoveOn—to help provide the resources needed to empower regular Americans to pool our strength against the extraordinary challenges ahead and win back power this November?

Click here now to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—and you'll help support MoveOn's work to lead the Resistance all the way to the polls. And as a way of saying thank you, MoveOn will enter you into a contest for an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the People's State of the Union event in New York City!

I'm joining Mark Ruffalo, Common, Whoopi Goldberg, Wanda Sykes, and Cynthia Nixon, as well as inspirational grassroots leaders and progressive organizing champions and MoveOn for the People's State of the Union event in New York City on Monday, the day before Trump gives his State of the Union speech in front of Congress. And maybe you can join us there, too!

Together, we will show that bully in the White House that we aren't going away. In fact, we're only getting stronger, and we'll be marching to the ballot boxes this fall.

Click here to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to support MoveOn's work to help lead the Resistance, and you'll be entered into the contest for an all-expenses-paid trip to the People's State of the Union event in New York City.

The past year has taught us that we can't sit back and hope that this will all go away.

And we cannot pretend that removing one individual from power will cure what ails our nation.

No; it's an all-hands-on-deck fight for our country and our democracy. Everybody's gotta step up!

Click here now to chip in $3, help fuel the Resistance, and be entered to win a trip to join me in New York on Monday.

Thanks for all you do.

Trump's attempt to keep Black and brown people out

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of Donald Trump's first Muslim Ban—an early manifestation of Trump's infuriating campaign promise of a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims from entering the country" and his ongoing white supremacist agenda.

Dear MoveOn member,

Tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of Donald Trump's first Muslim Ban—an early manifestation of Trump's infuriating campaign promise of a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims from entering the country" and his ongoing white supremacist agenda.1

Right now, Trump's Muslim Ban 3.0 is in effect and is indefinitely blocking people from five majority-Muslim countries: Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen—while placing restrictions on a sixth majority-Muslim country, Chad. And just yesterday, Trump also released a proposal to cut immigration by 50%, including ending major portions of the family reunification program that allows people to sponsor their siblings, parents, and other close family members.3 Meanwhile, the livelihoods of over 800,000 DACA recipients and millions of others with post-natural disaster temporary protected status are still uncertain, because Trump is using them as a bargaining chip to get his border wall and pass more inhumane immigration policies.4

Make no mistake: These policies exemplify Trump's and the GOP's willingness to cater to white supremacists, inhumanely tear apart families, and keep Black and brown immigrants out of the United States.

Whether it's telling our story to millions of viewers or thousands of us marching through Washington, D.C., we're resisting Trump's Muslim Ban.

Despite this, MoveOn members have stood strong in resistance against Trump's policies—and we can be proud of our work, drawing a clear moral line in the sand. Since Trump's election,

  • MoveOn members took his campaign promise to implement a Muslim registry seriously and worked with our allies at DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving), the ACLU, and many partners to proactively shut down a Bush-era Muslim registry program so Trump wouldn't be allowed to use it;
  • when the first Muslim Ban was released, thousands of MoveOn members showed up to airports across the country to stand with Muslim communities, and tens of thousands more hung signs in their neighborhoods reading, "No Muslim Ban. No Border Wall. Our Cities Stand Tall";
  • our Video Lab team made 22 videos around the Muslim Ban and combating Islamophobia that garnered over 15 million views—including a video that told the powerful story of Areej Ali, a green card holder, who was detained during the first Muslim Ban;
  • we released a timely guidebook to progressive members of Congress, allies, and organizations on how to speak about the Muslim Ban while avoiding talking points that would harm Muslim communities;5
  • we took the opportunity to contribute over $250,000 to many organizations on the front lines of Trump's attacks—including those working on immigrant rights;
  • tens of thousands of MoveOn members have also added their signatures to petitions calling on Facebook and Twitter to take hate speech and the incitement of violence seriously on their platforms;
  • and so much more!

While MoveOn members have focused during the past year on defending communities on the frontlines of Trump's attacks, in 2018, we're going on the offense, taking up the long-term fight against anti-Muslim racism along with allies in Muslim communities.

The fight against the Muslim Ban is far from over. And we know, from all the systemic ways Muslim communities have been targeted through surveillance, Guantánamo, wars, and law enforcement, that we need some serious change to shift the narrative and build pro-immigrant political power before it's too late.

We're also at an unprecedented moment where there is an opportunity to drastically shift the conversation around Muslim communities and get Democratic candidates, along with progressive organizations, the right tools for the 2018 elections. We already started the process by looking into existing research on Islamophobia and planning out our video persuasion tests to find the right messaging. If this is the year Democrats win big, we need to make sure they are clearly standing with Muslim communities against the anti-Muslim hate we will inevitably witness during an election year.

As we continue to stand against anti-Muslim racism, click here to watch and share Areej's powerful story of being detained during the first Muslim Ban to remind people of the ways Trump's policies are tearing families apart—and that these policies have real consequences on the lives of many.

Thanks for all you do.

Put your beliefs ... on your lawn 😍

Last weekend we marked one year of Donald Trump in the White House, and watched as his racist policies forced a government shutdown. At the same time, millions of people took to the streets to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Women's March, and to show that our movement is only getting stronger. Now, with 800,000 Dreamers at risk, it is more important than ever that we be loud, committed, and unwavering about the values we hold dear.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last weekend, we marked one year of Donald Trump in the White House and watched as his racist policies forced a government shutdown. At the same time, millions of people took to the streets to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Women's March and show that our movement is only getting stronger. Now, with 800,000 Dreamers at risk, it is more important than ever that we be loud, committed, and unwavering about the values we hold dear.

And we need to declare these values in public both as a rejection of the Trump agenda and a visible promise about the world we're working to build together. No human is illegal. Science is real. Black lives matter.

That's why MoveOn's millions of members are partnering with Here We Believe—a project that has created a compelling and memorable yard sign design popping up everywhere across the country, in blue states and red, in small towns and urban centers.

Ready to recommit to the Resistance and want a positive and lasting way to stand up to Trump?

Click here to donate to MoveOn and receive your own sturdy, weather-resistant, union-printed sign (pictured below)!

"We've always proudly worn our progressive beliefs on our sleeves, but after Trump's election, we felt that we had to be louder," said Camm, part of the husband and wife team behind the Here We Believe sign.

After Election Day, Camm and his wife Becky felt an unstoppable urgency to make sure there were tangible signs of resistance—and love—in the world. They wanted physical signs that represented what they call "positivity." Symbols of hope in a troubling time, to galvanize and inspire their wider community.

Now, thanks to a partnership between Here We Believe and MoveOn, MoveOn's millions of members can help build this visible and inspiring network of joyous resistance, love, and hope in cities and towns across the nation.

Simply click here to get your sign.

Camm and Becky use this sign on their lawn to signal to their community that they're intent on being proud, progressive change agents. It's a way for them to share beliefs that are important to them and start a dialogue with their neighbors at this pivotal moment for our country.

Positivity—or what we stand for—is at the heart of what motivates and inspires many MoveOn members, including Camm and Becky, to keep resisting the Trump agenda and continue working for a better future for ourselves and our families.

That's why MoveOn has teamed up with Camm and Becky—to make sure MoveOn members like you, Eddie, in every community in the U.S., have a chance to get your own Here We Believe sign.

It's easy to order; click here.

Let's say it together: Here we believe love is love. Science is real. No human is illegal.

And kindness is everything.

Thanks for all you do. (And thanks, Camm and Becky!)

#TrumpShutdown speak-out! RSVP now.

Help end the #trumpshutdown by attending a speak-out this week Help end the #trumpshutdown by attending a speak-out this week

YOU'RE INVITED!
New Yorkers Against a #TrumpShutdown!

Where: 26 Federal Plaza--Federal Building  (in New York)
When: Monday, January 22, 12:00 PM
What:

 SPEAK-OUT TO END THE #TRUMPSHUTDOWN

Donald Trump and the GOP have driven us into a government shutdown. They have left kids without health care, #Dreamers in limbo, and are hurting countless federal employees—not to mention all of us who rely on federal services.

Democrats stood strong for CHIP and the Dream Act, demanding Republicans fix the crisis Trump created when he ended the popular DACA program. But Trump and the GOP refused to compromise. Now it's our turn to speak up at this pivotal moment and demand a government that works again.

Public pressure is absolutely critical to make sure senators see constituents demanding an end to the #TrumpShutdown by passing the Dream Act, funding CHIP, and agreeing to a plan that reflects the values of the American people.

Can you join this #TrumpShutdown speak-out?

Unbelievable, even for Trump

This is outrageous: Republicans have shut down the federal government in order to protect Donald Trump's racist, anti-immigrant agenda, at the expense of tens of millions of Americans.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is outrageous: Republicans have shut down the federal government in order to protect Donald Trump's racist, anti-immigrant agenda, at the expense of tens of millions of Americans.

This is the first time in American history that the federal government has been shut down when one party controls both chambers of Congress and the White House.1

To paraphrase Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, what a total "shitshow" this has become.2

Right now, hundreds of thousands of government employees are facing furloughs—a terrifying situation for those living paycheck to paycheck. And Dreamers—immigrants who made a home in America as children—are still living in fear that they could be deported at any moment.

This is a new low for the Republican Party, and we need to mobilize now to make this so politically painful for them that they will have no choice but to reopen the government and pass a clean Dream Act. And we'll make sure that voters don't forget what the Republicans have done, and that they pay a political price in the midterm elections this November.

We need to raise $100,000 in the next 24 hours to power the rapid-response campaign to confront this crisis. Will you chip in $3 now?

Yes, I'll chip in now to help hold the GOP accountable for this shutdown and force Republicans to end this needless crisis and reopen the government.

Republicans control both houses of Congress and should be held responsible for siding with Trump to shut down the government instead of saving Dreamers with the popular, bipartisan Dream Act. Remember, it was Trump's decision to unilaterally repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program; this crisis is of Trump's and Republicans' own making.

If Republicans were to put a clean Dream Act on the floor for a vote today, it would pass with bipartisan support, and the government could reopen.

Instead, they've wasted their time defending a president who is more interested in writing offensive Twitter rants and making racist demands than in supporting bipartisan solutions to keep our government open.

If the GOP had just done the right thing, for once, none of this would have happened.

Help raise $100,000 for our emergency, rapid-response fund, and together we'll pressure Republicans to reopen the government and end the Trump shutdown, and then we'll hold them accountable for shutting down the government at the polls this fall.

Click here to chip in $3 right now to our emergency #TrumpShutdown campaign.

We're going to work around the clock this weekend and every day until the government reopens. Here's what we're planning to do, if we get the funds we need:

  • Make sure that the public understands that this is a 100%-Trump-Republican shutdown, which will help us end the shutdown now and win back power this fall. We held a rally at the U.S. Capitol last night featuring Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Kamala Harris, Representative Luis Gutierrez, and other champions, and we're joining the Women's Marches around the country today and tomorrow with signs and banners that send a clear message about the #TrumpShutdown.
  • Run a national Ready to Resist organizing call on Sunday night to channel tens of thousands of members into action to pressure Republicans to get back to work, pass the Dream Act, and reopen the government.
  • Organize speak-outs around the country next week, so constituents can rally together at hundreds of local events to demand action from elected officials and drive local media coverage about the #TrumpShutdown.
  • Produce hard-hitting videos and social media content about what's at stake, who'll be hurt by this shutdown, and why and how the GOP needs to get back to work to end it.
  • Prepare to flood Congress with calls next week through texting, email alerts, and our new, cutting-edge automated-calling technology. As our data analyst Amy White said, "Using some data and a whole lot of math, we identify progressive-leaning voters in key districts with members of Congress who most need to hear from their constituents. Then, we make huge numbers of calls to alert those voters to what's happening and encourage them to get involved!" These calls cost money, but they're highly effective. And we need to scale them up.
  • Organize high-profile, media-grabbing actions that will tell the story of the shutdown and can energize members around the country.

This organizing will take significant resources that we weren't planning to spend. Which is why I need to ask you, Eddie: Will you chip in now to our emergency campaign now to hold Republicans accountable and end the #TrumpShutdown?

Yes, I'll chip in $3 now to the emergency shutdown campaign.

Republicans created this disaster, but they want to blame Democrats for the shutdown? Please.

Democrats acted in good faith and gave significant concessions to Republicans in an attempt to pass a spending bill that includes protections for Dreamers.

Republican Senator Jeff Flake said, "I can tell you I've been negotiating and working with the Democrats on immigration for 17 years and on this issue, on DACA or on the DREAM Act, for a number of years, and the Democrats are negotiating in good faith."3

This shutdown happened because of Trump and the Republicans. We need to make sure that the GOP is held accountable and suffers political consequences in the 2018 elections. Donate now to help us reach $100,000 in our emergency response fund to make Republicans get back to work, reopen the government, and, in November, pay for their government shutdown.

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in $3 now to the emergency shutdown campaign.

Thanks for all you do.

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Ready to Resist, we will be hosting our first call of 2018 TONIGHT at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) LIVE from the Women's March "Power to the Polls" national voter registration tour kickoff in Las Vegas.

Dear Eddie,

The Ready to Resist call—our series of national organizing calls—is back, and we are celebrating our one-year anniversary TODAY with a very special and urgent mass organizing call.

Just answer the phone to connect to the call, or stream the call at moveon.org/ReadyToResist.

With news breaking late Friday night that Republicans have caused a government shutdown by refusing to protect nearly 800,000 Dreamers from deportations, it is more urgent than ever for our movement to come together to organize, fight back against the racist Republican agenda, and work hard to take back power in Washington later this year.

On this Sunday's call, we will discuss updates on the shutdown and what you can do next week to join Dreamers in action and hold Republicans accountable, and we will also give updates on MoveOn's Resist and Win election campaign and much, much more! (Take a look below for the email we sent earlier this week about the call.)

We'll be joined on the call by

  • Bob Bland, Linda Sarsour, and Nina Turner from the Women's March;
  • Nelini Stamp from the Working Families Party;
  • Jennifer Epps-Addison from the Center for Popular Democracy;
  • Victoria Kaplan from MoveOn;
  • Our friends at Peoples Action, National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Daily Kos and;

Dear MoveOn member,

One year ago, we hosted the inaugural “Ready to Resist” national organizing call, with the goal of providing resources for people around the country preparing to fight back against Donald Trump’s agenda.

We thought 1,000 people would attend (our original draft agenda even had that number written down as our goal!). Instead, over 60,000 people joined that first call the night after the inspirational Women's March—and helped to break a Guinness World Record! Hundreds of thousands have joined the 15 we have hosted since—learning everything from how to fight back against attacks on health care, to how to confront racism in our communities.

In honor of the one-year anniversary of Ready to Resist and celebrating the anniversary of the historic Women's March, we will be hosting our first call of 2018 this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) LIVE from the Women’s March “Power to the Polls” national voter registration tour kickoff in Las Vegas.

Click here to RSVP! (You'll register online, then receive a call at the number you provide shortly before Sunday's call begins—or you'll be able to listen online.)

On this Sunday’s call, we will …

  • Discuss the political state of play heading into the 2018 midterms with our Ready to Resist partners the Working Families Party, People's Action, and the Center for Popular Democracy.
  • Give an update on MoveOn’s Resist and Win election campaign, the tactics and tools we will use to help support hundreds of progressive candidates around the country, and how you can get involved.
  • Hear from representatives of the Women’s March who will share details about their Power to the Polls campaign, a national voter registration tour that will target swing states to register and engage voters and help elect women and progressives around the country.
  • And much, much more!

Click here to RSVP to this Sunday’s call!

2018 will be the most important test for our movement. At this moment, we are facing a major showdown over the DACA program, with the lives of nearly 800,000 young people hanging in the balance—and by Sunday we will know if we've secured the Dream Act, whether Democrats have stood their ground and demanded a deal, or even if Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress have gone so far as to shut down the federal government to support Trump's aggressive deportation agenda.

It has never been more important for us to come together and fight back. This year, we have the chance to take back power in Washington, create a real firewall to stop Trump’s agenda, and hold elected officials around the country accountable for their actions. But we have a lot of work to do to get there.

And it won’t be possible without a massive, energized movement of people around the country organizing in their communities, raising their voices, and marching all the way to the polls. Will you join us?

Click here to RSVP for this Sunday’s call!

And be sure to invite your friends. Click here to share info about the call on Facebook. And click here to share info about the call on Twitter.

Thanks for all you do.

–Victoria, Jayne, Schuyler, Matt, and the rest of the team

P.S. This weekend, of course, also marks the anniversary of the historic Women's March, the largest march in U.S. history. Join a #TrumpShutdown action near you

Donald Trump just shut down the federal government—here's how we respond.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump and his GOP Congress just shut down the federal government.1

Our National Parks are closing down.

9 million kids who depend on the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) still have their coverage unfunded.2

And 800,000 Dreamers are without the protections they were promised under DACA.

All because Donald Trump and the GOP chose to shut down the government rather than give up their reckless and racist policies, including billions in funding for a border wall.

Trump is tweeting up a storm to pass blame for his shutdown off onto Democrats because they stood strong for Dreamers and resisted his radical agenda. But we won't stand for it—and MoveOn members and our allies are going to show up at speak-out actions across the country this next week to demand that the GOP end the #TrumpShutdown and get back to work to pass the Dream Act and fund CHIP.

Click here to host or join an urgent speak-out this week to demand Congress end the #TrumpShutdown and protect Dreamers—find and RSVP for an event near you, or start a new one! (If there isn't an event near you yet, hosting one is easy! MoveOn staff and volunteers will support you every step of the way and even recruit other MoveOn members and partners in your area.)

Yesterday marked exactly one year since Trump's inauguration—and one year of the resistance to Trump's administration. In the past year, so many of us have stepped up our civic engagement in ways we may never have expected. We've been vigilant in defending health care coverage, standing with communities bearing the brunt of Trump's attacks, and resisting the Trump agenda as we've mobilized to win key elections and lay the groundwork to rebuild progressive power.

And we've had incredible impact! We've been able to defeat horrible Republican policies and support leadership from Democrats who have stood strong—even now, the fact that the Democrats are so united in their opposition to Trump's and the Republicans' cruel legislative games is a testament to the power of the Resistance, which has stiffened the spines of Democrats and showed we'll have their backs in a moment like this.

And now it's critical to make sure Republicans feel the pressure—to get back to work, pass Dream, fund CHIP, reopen the government, and reject Trump's racist agenda and reckless actions.

MoveOn and our allies are organizing a national wave of protests to end the #TrumpShutdown, beginning Monday and lasting through Wednesday (unless we can win before then!).

Can we count on you to join or host a speak-out event in your area to end the #TrumpShutdown?

Republicans have shut down the federal government before, and they suffered a political cost from holding our country hostage to their extreme agenda. If we all come together to stand up to this egregious negotiating tactic, we can win public opinion, help secure a deal that protects Dreamers, and emerge as a stronger country. It all starts with what we do next.

Thanks for all you do.

–Katharine, Elsie, Ben, Jackie, and the rest of the team

P.S.: One year ago, the day after the Women's March, MoveOn and our allies held the first Ready to Resist call—and broke the Guinness World Record for the largest conference call in history. Tonight, Sunday January 21, we're marking that anniversary with another Ready to Resist call, live from the Women's March in Las Vegas and featuring leaders of the Women's March, where we'll focus like a laser on urgent steps to stop the #TrumpShutdown. Click here to RSVP for the call tonight, Sunday, at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT).
