FINAL PUSH: Stop Kavanaugh

It's stunning that it has come to this, but our goal is clear: Over the next five days, we must force Senate Republicans (and every single Democrat) to stop, listen to and believe survivors, and say no to Kavanaugh.

Dear MoveOn member,

Red alert: Even after harrowing testimony from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Republican Senate leaders are still steamrolling ahead to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.

But we're seeing that pressure and protests are cleaving cracks in the wall of Republican support, which gives us an opening—if we act now and over the next 5 days.

Late Friday, after thousands of us rallied around the country and marched on the Senate office buildings in Washington, D.C., brave sexual assault victims inside confronted Senator Jeff Flake in an elevator in a nationally-televised person-to-person moment of reckoning.1 And, just minutes later, Sen. Flake called for an FBI investigation.2

But it's only a one-week investigation. Which means that we have just five days to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation by demanding that undecided Republicans and Democrats listen to survivors like Dr. Blasey Ford and their own constituents, who are turning out in record numbers to hold their members of Congress accountable for their actions.

Time is running out: Donald Trump and Senate Republicans have demanded that the FBI finish its investigation very quickly, so that the Senate can hold a vote on Kavanaugh by Friday—and there are already concerning reports of how Trump is attempting to limit the investigation.

So we must act now. Can you give one more time to MoveOn's campaign to stop Brett Kavanaugh?

Click here to chip in $3, or whatever you can.

After what America witnessed on Thursday—a courageous survivor of sexual assault reliving her trauma on national television—Republicans went on the attack against survivors, and they scheduled the committee vote for Friday morning, less than 24 hours after Dr. Blasey Ford concluded her wrenching testimony.

It's stunning that it has come to this, but our goal is clear: Over the next five days, we must force Senate Republicans (and every single Democrat) to stop, listen to and believe survivors, and say no to Kavanaugh.

What happens in the next few days will be felt for generations. Which is why we're asking: Will you chip in chip in $3 to help fund our big, final push to stop Brett Kavanaugh?

Click here to chip in and help keep Brett Kavanaugh off of the Supreme Court.

Here's how MoveOn and our members are organizing our big, final push to stop Kavanaugh:

  • We're organizing and supporting flash protests all week at Senate offices across the country, with a focus on the eight states with senators who could be the deciding votes. We are making sure that senators, their staff, and homestate media know that constituents are outraged and want them to stop these hearings, believe survivors, and vote no on Kavanaugh. (After Thursday's hearings, we called for and helped organize dozens of events on Friday with thousands of participants that formed in a matter of hours.)
  • We are continuing to recruit to actions in Washington, D.C., where a huge show of people power has been making noise and building pressure around the clock—and where we can lift up the leadership of survivors like those who bravely confronted Sen. Flake in person.
  • We are continuing to flood Senate offices with phone calls; more than 10,000 calls were made by MoveOn members last Thursday alone, and we will continue to push tens of thousands of calls to offices all week.

And there's one more thing: We're flexing our electoral muscle. We have hundreds of voter contact events—our Resist and Win Waves—taking place over the next few weekends in the 100+ congressional districts that could end GOP control of Congress.

Our get out the vote events taking place this weekend are carrying a message about believing survivors, demanding justice, and stopping Kavanaugh—so that Republicans are on full notice that there will be severe political consequences for their attacks on women and survivors.

We're giving our all to stop this vote—and you can be damn sure that on Election Day we will make Republicans pay for their cruelty.

But remember: We can still win this Supreme Court fight. Which is why we need your help right now: to pump up the calls, recruitment, videos and make sure that the pressure and message of accountability are delivered nationally over the next five days. And that's why we're asking you:

Will you help fund our big, final push to stop Brett Kavanaugh?

Thanks for all you do.

An important request

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's numbers guy. I'm usually behind the scenes running our budget and operations and write MoveOn members just a few times a year with important updates.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's numbers guy. I'm usually behind the scenes running our budget and operations and write MoveOn members just a few times a year with important updates.

I'll cut right to the chase: Midnight tomorrow marks both our end-of-month and end-of-quarter fundraising deadlines. But this is no ordinary end-of-quarter deadline—and no ordinary election. This is our final end-of-quarter deadline before Election Day. There are now just five days left before the Senate is expected to vote on Brett Kavanaugh's nomination. And there are just 37 days left to win the most important midterm election of our lifetimes.

In the midst of all this, we still need to raise $200,000 to stay on-budget. Which is why I need your help.

Eddie, will you rush a donation of $3 right now to help us meet our goal of raising $200,000 before midnight tomorrow night?

On September 30 in any other election year, MoveOn's team would be focused on nothing else but the election itself. In fact, I just looked at my records, and exactly two years ago, I sent MoveOn members an email detailing all of the work left to do before we went to the polls in 2016.

But this is not a normal election year.

Don't get me wrong, MoveOn has pulled out all of the stops and is working around the clock to defeat Republicans at the polls in 37 days. In fact, MoveOn is running our biggest midterm elections program EVER. But we have also had to dig deep into our reserves in order to mount a massive, critical, no-holds-barred campaign to stop Brett Kavanaugh from getting anywhere close to a seat on the Supreme Court and to be sure that we are ready to spill into the streets at a moment's notice if Trump undermines the Mueller investigation.

Our team spent all of last week (including nights and weekends) pushing tens of thousands of calls to offices of swing-vote senators, helping to organize last-minute rallies across the country in response to Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's wrenching testimony on Thursday and churning out powerful videos and ads. On top of that, we have been preparing for the possible firing of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and maintaining the largest midterm election campaign in our 20-year history.

With the vote on Kavanaugh's nomination delayed a week so the FBI can complete an investigation, I anticipate hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional expenses as we extend our campaign until at least the end of the week to pressure key senators to vote the right way.

We have to walk and chew gum at the same time right now. We MUST stop Brett Kavanaugh—while also organizing the massive number of voters who have been galvanized to hold the Republicans who have blindly supported him accountable in November. I know that many of you have been giving, and giving generously, of your time, your money, and your energy. I wouldn't ask if it weren't so important.

This is a massive undertaking—bigger than we could have ever imagined. Will you dig deep and chip in $3 right now to help us meet our goal before tomorrow's crucial deadline?

As my boss Anna says to me, "MoveOn was built for this moment." In addition to our work to stop Kavanaugh and protect the Mueller investigation, it is up to us to play a pivotal role in making sure that Republicans feel the consequences of their actions on November 6th. It is not hubris or hyperbole to say that the work we do in the next 37 days could determine control of the House and Senate.

Here is just some of what our team has been doing:

  • Hosting weekly "Resist & Win" organizing calls, bringing together elected officials and movement leaders to talk to tens of thousands of MoveOn members, share their skills and expertise, and inspire all of us to stay involved and push even harder.
  • Coordinating hundreds of "Wave" volunteer events in critical swing districts, bringing thousands of MoveOn members together to volunteer directly for congressional campaigns en masse—making calls, knocking on doors, and providing the indispensable on-the-ground support campaigns need in order to succeed.
  • Running a cutting-edge voter persuasion project called Real Voter Voices—a program that allows MoveOn members to film short videos straight from their phones describing why they support certain candidates, and then utilizes sophisticated analytics to determine which voters are most likely to be moved by those messages, which allows our teams to create the most-impactful ads targeting the right people. Early tests of the program showed some very exciting results, which is why we are investing in rolling it out more broadly to increase its impact.

With only 37 days left until the election, we cannot afford to pull back on a single piece of our midterm election work, nor can we stop our emergency campaign to stop Kavanaugh. We need the resources to do both.

Please, click here and rush a contribution of $3 right now before tomorrow's midnight deadline, so we head into the final sprint of the election—and the final days to stop Kavanaugh—able to fight with everything we have.

This week has been unimaginably difficult and painful, but the strength and resilience of Dr. Blasey Ford, the sexual assault survivors who bravely confronted members of Congress like Jeff Flake to tell their stories, and the many, many more who have been reliving their experiences and standing in solidarity should give all of us the courage and conviction to push forward.

This is the final push. Will you join us?

Click here to chip in $3 right now.

Thanks for all you do.

Why I walked out

I walked out. Republicans were rushing Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation with a sham hearing yesterday morning, less than 24 hours after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford had the courage to tell her story in front of the entire country. This is a disgrace. So, instead of sitting through the farce ... I walked out.

Dear MoveOn member,

I walked out.

Republicans were rushing Judge Kavanaugh's confirmation with a sham hearing yesterday morning, less than 24 hours after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford had the courage to tell her story in front of the entire country. This is a disgrace.

So, instead of sitting through the farce ... I walked out.

I know I'm not alone in this fight; millions of Americans are with me. And as of yesterday morning, I'm proud to say that my colleague, Indiana Senator Joe Donnelly, is with me. After hearing Dr. Blasey Ford testify and seeing the GOP effort to push through this confirmation, Sen. Donnelly has said he'll vote no on Kavanaugh.1

But Sen. Donnelly is in one of the toughest reelection fights this year—and we know his opponent, a right-wing candidate who'll march in line with Senators McConnell and Grassley and Donald Trump—will attack him for this vote. That's why I'm asking:

Can MoveOn members around the country help in getting Joe's back?

Click here to rush a contribution of $3 to Joe Donnelly to help have his back and end Republican control of the Senate in November.

Rushing a vote on Kavanaugh after Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony and the multiple allegations of sexual assault that have been made against him is outrageous.

We haven't even given the public the chance to make their voices heard after listening to Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony. You deserve better.

Joe Donnelly recognizes that the FBI has a job to do, the public needs time, and that this attempt to rush through Kavanaugh is a Republican power grab and an insult to women and survivors everywhere. And if we're going to have any chance of taking back the Senate—and taking that chair gavel out of Sen. Grassley's hand, we need to make sure Sen. Donnelly is reelected.

He has taken the right stance—and we need to defend him from attacks in Indiana and send a message nationwide that when you take the right vote, MoveOn members will be there to fight alongside you.

Will you rush a contribution to Joe Donnelly right now to help have his back and end Republican control of the Senate in November?

Yes, I'll chip in $3 right now.

Things are moving fast. I'll be in touch soon.

Thanks for all you do.

My heart is pounding (We must take back Congress)

I was a teenager when Dr. Anita Hill stood up bravely to a shameful disgrace of a process when she brought forth her own testimony.

Dear Eddie,

I held my breath during Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony yesterday—to keep from either screaming or breaking down. Or both.

Here's what's true: We cannot undo the GOP's vile behavior before, during, and after yesterday's hearing. We can and will keep pushing to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation, which is still in question. And, with a pivotal election in 39 days, we can and must channel our outrage into accountability by wresting control of the House—and Senate—away from Republicans on November 6.

Will you sign up to help contact voters in a pivotal race near you? There's an important action happening near you, hosted by MoveOn members: Canvassing for GOTV on Tuesday, October 2, 3:00 PM .

Please click this link to learn more and sign up!

I was a teenager when Anita Hill stood up bravely to a shameful disgrace of a process when she brought forth her own testimony. When the GOP (and, to their shame, Democrats) handed Clarence Thomas—a sexual abuser—a lifetime seat on the most powerful court in our nation while hurling blistering insults and doubt at Ms. Hill, the survivor of Thomas's abuse.

Well, yesterday, Republicans tried again to meet Dr. Blasey Ford's account of Brett Kavanaugh's attempted rape with cruel and cynical attempts to distract from her account.

But you know what? They failed.

Because a nation was watching. MoveOn members—who believe survivors such as Dr. Blasey Ford—were on the move, from Washington, D.C., to Minneapolis. Together, we made more than 10,000 calls to the Senate yesterday alone. We joined the Women's March, NARAL, and UltraViolet in rallying by the thousands in Washington. More than 250,000 thousand of us signed petitions of support for Dr. Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick.

And we will not yield.

Because this Tuesday, we have the chance to support a new generation of candidates who are leading the way to take back Congress. Can you join your fellow MoveOn members in Elmhurst?

We will not allow Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, Julie Swetnick, or any survivor of sexual violence to face the same enduring scorn as Anita Hill endured. We will not have our daughters bear the same burden and shame that we—and all survivors—have carried forward these 27 years.

Remember, we can't change what happened in that Senate hearing room, but you can be damn sure we can take back Congress on November 6. And with that win, begin a national transformation, a national healing that is long overdue.

Click here now to take part in a historic organizing wave that will sweep out vile misogynists and usher in a new day.

In the face of great personal risk, Dr. Blasey Ford shared her trauma with the entire nation.

Let's join together in these next 39 days to make Donald Trump and Republicans pay for the cynical and deeply disrespectful circus they've created to ram through archconservative Brett Kavanaugh.

And when we win on Election Day, let's join together as a nation and say that we believe survivors. We believe women. We believe Anita Hill as we believe Dr. Blasey Ford.

And let's build from those common truths. Together.

Thanks for all you do.

–Anna

Dr. Ford is a hero. Kavanaugh is a liar.

Christine Blasey Ford spoke with courage, dignity, and honesty. Brett Kavanaugh yelled, blatantly lied, and showed himself to be a vengeful partisan with no business being a judge. Which one will the Senate will believe?

Dear MoveOn member,

Christine Blasey Ford spoke with courage, dignity, and honesty.

Brett Kavanaugh yelled, blatantly lied, and showed himself to be a vengeful partisan with no business being a judge.

Which one will the Senate will believe?

This confirmation battle has become about more than just a Supreme Court seat. It's about whether the voices and bodies of women and survivors of sexual assault have value in this country.

That's why, last night, MoveOn members took action and called for protests outside Senate offices around the country today at noon—with a focus on eight states whose senators could be the deciding votes. Already, thousands of constituents are planning to attend. But we need to make these events, the actions in D.C., and the pressure on phones, social media, and airwaves even more intense in these critical hours—as the Senate Judiciary Committee plans to vote today, leading to a full Senate voting process that begins tomorrow and culminates Tuesday.

For all the survivors who are reliving their own trauma through the news cycle. For all the young girls watching and taking lessons about their own value. For future generations of women whose rights Brett Kavanaugh will control if confirmed.

We must not fail. We must stop Brett Kavanaugh. Will you chip in $3 to help keep up the pressure?

Yes, I'll chip in for this final push to stop Brett Kavanaugh.

Watching Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony was equal parts heart-wrenching and inspiring. Imagine the courage it took for her to come forward, knowing how she would be attacked, to relive her trauma in public.

But it was also terrifying, because what if, after all we've learned about this man, he is still given a lifetime appointment to decide women's rights and control our bodies?

Let's be clear: Brett Kavanaugh is a liar who has no business on the U.S. Supreme Court.

He lied about his history of drinking.1 He lied about the meaning of "Renate Alumni" in his yearbook.2 He lied in his previous confirmation hearings in 2004 and 2006 about his actions in the Bush administration.3

There are real cracks showing in the Republican wall of support for Kavanaugh. Senator Lisa Murkowski has called for an FBI investigation.4 Maine Senator Susan Collins remains undecided and is being inundated with constituents calling and flooding her offices.

But the final vote could come as soon as Tuesday, and MoveOn is launching a massive final push to stop him, including protests, rallies, and ads calling on the key undecided senators to do the right thing.

Will you chip in to help stop Brett Kavanaugh before it's too late?

Yes, I'll chip in and help keep Kavanaugh off the Supreme Court!

Thanks for all you do.

FRIDAY AT NOON: #StopKavanaugh protests at Senate offices across the country

Show the Senate that you believe Dr. Ford we need to stop Kavanaugh!

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's testimony today took our breath away. She was unwavering, compelling, courageous, and powerful—over hours in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee. And yet, the Republicans are still pushing to confirm Brett Kavanaugh—with a committee vote scheduled for tomorrow morning!

Dr. Blasey Ford has done everything in her power. Now it is up to us—and we have to move fast! Can you show up at noon on Friday at the closest office of one of your senators? Across the country, outside Republican and Democratic offices, people are gathering—and together, we will say, "I believe Dr. Blasey Ford! The Senate must reject Brett Kavanaugh!"

Click here to find the Senate office nearest to you. (If there is no nearby office or if you can't make it in person, take a photo of yourself with a protest sign and post it on social media with hashtags #BelieveSurvivors and #StopKavanaugh.) You can also click here to join the national Facebook page for these actions.

Wear black, and bring signs (you can download some here), with messages such as "Believe Survivors" and "Stop Kavanaugh"—as well as, if you wish, handwritten letters, and pictures or photos of the people you're fighting for. When you arrive, look for other protesters so you can stand together. These are rapid-response gatherings, without much time to prepare—so they'll be scrappy, and that's OK. You should gather together to take photos of all of you standing with your signs and post them on social media with hashtags such as #StopKavanaugh and #BelieveSurvivors. Then go into the office to deliver the message to your senators that they have a responsibility to believe survivors, block this frenzied and offensive process, and stop Kavanaugh!

We're working with allies including Indivisible, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, the National Women's Law Center, UltraViolet, CREDO, and MomsRising, and many more, to help build these gatherings on short notice—and we know that MoveOn members, friends, family, and neighbors will show up in communities around the country. Because we all experienced outrage watching the older white men of the Republican Party dismiss Dr. Blasey Ford and push ahead with their relentless and brazen power grab.

Today, as the hearing took place, we made tens of thousands of calls declaring that we believe Dr. Blasey Ford. Tomorrow, let's show up in person. By drawing needed local media attention, delivering a message to local Senate staff, and showing a groundswell of support for Dr. Blasey Ford and opposition to Kavanaugh, we can create the pressure to stop this confirmation—and show there will be dramatic consequences for senators who fail to stand with survivors and constituents.

Thanks for all you do.

–Erica, Robert, Seth, Jayne, and the rest of the team

Call Sen. Schumer and Sen. Gillibrand: I believe Dr. Blasey Ford. I stand with survivors.

Dear MoveOn member,

Right now, the Senate Judiciary Committee is meeting to hear from Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a courageous woman sharing her story of sexual assault on the national stage. She didn't want this attention. Coming forward has upended her life and put her family into a vulnerable position.

Now that she has stepped forward, we all need to stand with her. And with Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick, who recently come forward. And we need to make sure every member of the Senate—Republican and Democrat—hears loud and clear from constituents today.

We stand with survivors. We believe Dr. Blasey Ford's testimony. And we want the Senate to put survivors above abusers.

Can you call Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand today to say, "We believe Dr. Blasey Ford"? You can also share your support for Ms. Ramirez and Ms. Swetnick, who have offered to testify. Tell your senators why it is so important to you that our Senate—and our country—hear from, listen to, and believe survivors. And why it is so critical to stop the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh.

Democrats need to hear that their constituents have their backs when they speak up loudly and clearly to defend Dr. Blasey Ford, Ms. Ramirez, and Ms. Swetnick from right-wing attacks. And Republicans need to hear that their constituents will hold them accountable if they attack, dismiss, undermine, discredit, or insult survivors.

Here's where to call:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542
  • Sen. Gillibrand - (202) 224-4451

Click here for notes on what you can say and to report your call—so we can share out how many MoveOn members are speaking up today.

Brett Kavanaugh is a right-wing partisan who does not deserve to sit on the Supreme Court. He has lied repeatedly under oath, his extreme positions would harm women, LGBTQ Americans, and the environment, and he wouldn't hold the president accountable to the law.

But how we respond to today's hearings is about more than Kavanaugh. This is about how our country responds to sexual violence, how we stand with survivors, and letting other survivors know that if they speak up, we will stand with them.

A vast majority of sexual violence goes unreported. There are many factors—but one is the fear that survivors won't be believed ... that they'll be attacked and discredited. Today, we have a chance to show survivors—our own family members, friends, and neighbors who have experienced assault—that we stand with them. And we should demand no less from each and every senator.

Call Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand now to say: We are watching. The world is watching. We believe Dr. Blasey Ford. We believe survivors. We stand with them. And senators that don't believe survivors will be held accountable.

Thanks for all you do.

Add your name to support Dr. Christine Blasey Ford

We stand in support of Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick. We believe them.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I started a petition, because I believe Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and want her to know the public also believes that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her. She is bravely taking her experience to the Senate on Thursday and could use our support in the face of threats—and ongoing criticism from Donald Trump and Republican officials.1

Now, as more stories come out about Brett Kavanaugh's treatment of women—including Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick—it's important we stand with the women who are bravely coming forward.

Add your name to tell Dr. Blasey Ford and the Senate Judiciary Committee that you believe the accusations made against Brett Kavanaugh.

We stand in support of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick. Their allegations deserve a respectful audience and response from the Senate Judiciary Committee. We believe them.

Troubling content in Kavanaugh's high school yearbook further reflects out-of-control drinking, partying, and disrespect of women. Julie Swetnick says she was drugged and gang raped at a party where Brett Kavanaugh and his friend Mark Judge were present. Other times, she witnessed the two engaging in harassing and threatening behavior toward young women.2 Deborah Ramirez also says Kavanaugh exposed himself to her in college and made forced sexual contact.3

I am personally haunted by the way Anita Hill was treated and my lack of action to support her. We must do more to support women who come forward to challenge institutions of power and privilege. This is our chance.

Let's show Dr. Blasey Ford, Deborah Ramirez, and Julie Swetnick that we're with them. We believe women.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Utter chaos

I have been working in politics for 50 years. Never in that time have I seen this level of corruption from any president—not even from Richard Nixon.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

On Monday, we woke up to the news that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein—who oversees special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation—was moments away from being fired by Donald Trump.

Although he seems to have received a temporary reprieve, he may be ousted before the end of the week. And if that happens, it will be the direct assault on the Mueller investigation that hurtles our nation into a constitutional crisis that could last for months.

And while Trump threatens the integrity of our nation with his continued attacks on Rosenstein and Mueller, his handpicked nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh, is forced to face his accusers—with more survivors coming forward with allegations of sexual assault. Trump is clearly reeling: He so wanted to have Kavanaugh, who believes that presidents have "absolute discretion" to fire special counsels if that president believes they are "out to get him," on the highest court to protect him when a civil or criminal case resulting from the Mueller investigation makes it to the Supreme Court.

I have been working in politics for 50 years. Never in that time have I seen this level of corruption from any president—not even from Richard Nixon.

MoveOn has been working for months to protect the Mueller investigation, stop Kavanaugh, end Republican control of Congress in the November elections, and stop Trump's dangerous agenda at every turn. Now, in this unexpected, urgent moment, these campaigns have snowballed into one giant, desperately important fight. And MoveOn needs our help.

Can you chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn keep Brett Kavanaugh, a truly dangerous man, off of the Supreme Court, take back Congress, and sustain the long-term fight to stop the attacks on the Mueller investigation—so that we can finally put a check on this unbelievably corrupt president?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Trump is creating chaos and lashing out to distract us all from the Mueller investigation because he is terrified of what it is uncovering.

Already, 33 people have been indicted on serious crimes related to Russian interference in our election, a trial has returned eight guilty verdicts, there have been 15 guilty pleas, and multiple people from Trump's inner circle—including his campaign manager Paul Manafort and lawyer Michael Cohen—may have flipped on Trump and may be cooperating with the investigation.

Is it any surprise that Trump is terrified?

And that's why Trump is so keen to get Kavanaugh on the court: If he's on the court, Kavanaugh will vote to protect Trump from civil and criminal prosecution. (Trump likes Kavanaugh because, as I said earlier, Kavanaugh thinks that presidents are above the law. Plus, like Trump, Kavanaugh is a sexual predator; they are cut from the same cloth.)

We cannot and will not let Trump and his enablers get away with this. Eddie, will you join me and chip in $5 a month to keep MoveOn strong and able to lead the ongoing fight to protect the Mueller investigation, while also working to stop Brett Kavanaugh, take back Congress in November, and block Donald Trump's agenda until he is out of office?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

MoveOn is doing an incredible amount to lead this fight. They have shown me what they are ready to do the second that Trump fires Rosenstein or tries to obstruct the Mueller investigation, including all of this:

  • Activate over 400,000 people to attend emergency rallies within hours. Over 900 events will take place across the country, organizing hundreds of thousands of concerned citizens to stand up and say that no one is above the law and that our elected officials MUST respond immediately to stop Trump now.
  • Call on Trump to be impeached. Even some Republicans have said that interfering with the Mueller investigation would be an impeachable offense, and MoveOn will turn up the heat so they put their money where their mouth is. MoveOn first called for impeachment in 2017, but it will dramatically expand that work by engaging allies to join the fight and pushing thousands of calls to Congress to call for impeachment proceedings to be initiated.
  • Work to immediately pass bipartisan legislation to protect Mueller and the investigation. Legislation has been introduced in both the Senate and the House, but no votes are planned to actually pass it. MoveOn will drive calls to Congress, promote petitions, and plan events to demand a vote immediately.
  • Prepare the next phase of actions—which could go on for months or more. The rallies are only the beginning. A crisis like this could last for months or more, which means that MoveOn will need to build a sustained and organized response that overwhelms the misinformation and lies from Trump and his cronies. That includes making this crisis a critical part of the midterm elections, as well as making the clear connection between this decision and the Republican efforts to confirm Kavanaugh.

This is a massive—but absolutely necessary—undertaking. I am so glad MoveOn is ready to lead the way. But at the same time, MoveOn members need to keep contributing to the critical work of stopping the confirmation of a man who opposes reproductive health, LGBTQ rights, the Affordable Care Act, environmental regulations, and limits on corporate power.

We're in the midst of the largest midterm election program in MoveOn's 20-year history. And, the fight to stop Trump will continue for years. MoveOn needs all of our help to charge into battle and keep up the fight.

Will you chip in $5 a month?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

Mark Judge (sign the petition)

Sign the petition telling the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Brett Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge in relation to allegations of sexual assault.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Brett Kavanaugh is set to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is also going to testify to detail her experience of being sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh and why she's concerned with his nomination to the Supreme Court.1

Mark Judge is the only witness to Dr. Blasey Ford's alleged attempted rape by Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. However, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is not asking him to appear on Thursday.2

Sign the petition telling the Senate Judiciary Committee to subpoena Mark Judge to testify so the Senate and the American people can be part of a transparent process.

Demand that Chairman Grassley subpoena Mark Judge to testify at the hearing on Thursday.

Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh were close friends in high school. They partied together. They drank together. Dr. Blasey Ford says they were together when she was assaulted.3

If Mark Judge does not testify, the hearing to decide Judge Kavanaugh's moral fitness to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court will be a sham. Demand that everyone in the room at the time of the alleged attempted rape be called to testify at the hearing. Demand Mark Judge be subpoenaed to testify.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you.

What's happening in Inwood?

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear Eddie,

I used MoveOn's free petition platform last year to help convince the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to reject money from the gun, tobacco, and, payday loan industries. Thousands of people from across the country signed on to say our politics shouldn't be bought off by special interests―and our voices were heard!

If you're passionate about making a change in your community or want to have an impact on issues that matter to you, click here to create your own petition.

Progressive issues such as ending corporate influence on our politics are important to me, because our daughter was slaughtered at a movie theater in the 2012 Aurora, Colorado, mass shooting. My husband and I are trying our best to turn our mourning into something positive for others―which is why we were so inspired by the thousands who signed our petition last year.

I have been organizing and speaking out wherever I can―in front of Congress, in media interviews, at rallies to stop gun violence, and by working with organizations across the country. My MoveOn petition was a critical part of mobilizing caring people to make progress, but we can't stop now.

Do you have any ideas for a petition for Inwood or nationwide that could build power on an issue you care about? Click here to start building power with your petition.

By using MoveOn's free, user-friendly petition tools, you can create your very own petition in just minutes.

I know from personal experience that MoveOn will support you as your petition is taking off, from helping build support for your petition by connecting you to other MoveOn members to reimbursing you for printing costs to deliver your petition in person.

It can feel frustrating to wait for others to initiate changes in your community or on issues which mean so much to you. Don't wait. You can start organizing now.

Will you start a petition right now on an issue that you're passionate about, from a local all the way up to a national level?

Thanks for all you do.

Trump using George W. Bush's playbook, re: Iran

Tomorrow, Donald Trump will lead a United Nations Security Council meeting on Iran. Yes, that is as bad as it sounds.

Dear MoveOn member,

Tomorrow, Donald Trump will lead a United Nations Security Council meeting on Iran.1

Yes, that is as bad as it sounds.

Trump has pulled out of multilateral agreements with other countries—such as the historic Iran deal that MoveOn members played a central role in defending and the Paris climate agreement that would protect the environment for generations to come. He's also instituted a Muslim Ban—which includes banning immigration from Iran.

Trump is alienating global allies and torching international respect for the U.S. by the minute.

Meanwhile, his drumbeat for war with Iran is accelerating. Now, instead of focusing on diplomacy and peace, Trump seems to be taking a note out of George W. Bush's playbook to focus on nonexistent "weapons of mass destruction."2

We can't let another Iraq War happen on our watch.

Can you take this quick, five-minute survey on what you believe the U.S. role should be in the world so we can share MoveOn member voices directly with congressional candidates and the media?

As we're 43 days out from this year's high-stakes election that could potentially flip the House—and, now, possibly even the Senate—this is the moment to make sure that all candidates and incumbents hear us loud and clear about what we want from them for our global policies. Taking the survey will help us do that.

For years, Congress has abandoned its responsibilities of oversight and accountability for where the U.S. military intervenes, allowing the administration to expand bombing campaigns and interventions with no repercussions. They have also passed bloated military budgets instead of investing some of the money into programs that lift up everyone, such as Social Security and Medicare.

Can you take a quick survey and leave a comment on what you see as the role of Congress in global policies during the Trump era?

If we get enough people to participate in this survey, we'll share the results out widely so candidates and the public hear our voices.

Thanks for all you do.

Enough!

This is Senator Mazie Hirono from the great state of Hawaii. I'm one of four women on the Senate Judiciary Committee. I'm writing to you today because I am angry.

Dear MoveOn member,

This is Senator Mazie Hirono from the great state of Hawaii. I'm one of four women on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

I'm writing to you today because I am angry. I am angry at the way Senate Republicans and Donald Trump's administration are treating Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who last week bravely came forward to share her story about Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

I am angry that Trump and his cronies will do absolutely anything to take over the Court—even if it means putting an alleged sexual predator on the bench.

I am angry that some of the very same senators who smeared and humiliated Anita Hill 27 years ago are trying to get away with it again.

And I am angry that Dr. Blasey Ford is being forced to endure this patently unfair process while facing ruthless intimidation and even threats to her life.

What is happening to Dr. Blasey Ford is disgusting and unacceptable, and I would expect that when the Senate hearings start again, my male colleagues will finally shut up, step up, and do the right thing—for once—and listen to and respect survivors.

Will you stand with me and chip in $3 to help power MoveOn's campaign to support Dr. Blasey Ford and stop Brett Kavanaugh?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in right now.

Let's be clear: Trump and his Republican allies have no interest in finding the truth.

They have no interest in hearing from Dr. Blasey Ford, or from any witness that would corroborate her story. They have no interest in conducting a fair investigation. Anything that gets in the way of fast-tracking Kavanaugh's ascent to the Court is unacceptable for them.

That's because they know that when Kavanaugh is on the Court, he will defend Trump from any civil or criminal case brought against him. And making sure that Trump is protected before Democrats take back Congress is more important to them than anything else.

That's why they have been making it so hard for Dr. Blasey Ford to participate in additional hearings, even though she has already gone above and beyond what any person should be forced to do.

My question is: What are they trying to hide? What are they so afraid of? If Kavanaugh is innocent, why isn't he calling for a full investigation to prove it unequivocally?

I worry that the answer is that he knows he is guilty. And if that's the case, we absolutely must do everything we can to stop him.

That is why any additional hearings must be fair and thorough, and why it is crucial that we keep raising our voices to demand it.

MoveOn members have been raising their voices since the very start of this nomination process, and I am so grateful to have you with me. MoveOn has driven tens of thousands of calls to Congress—I certainly got some!—hosted events outside the Capitol Building, created videos, run ads, and more. Trust me, this work is critical. This is exactly the kind of pressure that helped us stop the repeated efforts by Republicans last year to repeal the Affordable Care Act, and it is what can help us stop Kavanaugh now. But MoveOn needs your help to keep up the fight.

Can we count on you to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford?

Yes, Mazie, I'll chip in.

The efforts of MoveOn members and countless fellow Americans have turned this "sure thing" nomination into a battle. Kavanaugh is the least popular nominee in decades, and we have been emboldened by the constituent pressure that's been constant for the past two and a half months—and all of this is thanks to people-powered activism from folks like all of you.

I know that MoveOn is going to keep up this pressure throughout this week's kangaroo court and every day after—fighting to ensure that women and survivors are heard, that the powerful are held to account, and that we all take steps to strengthen our democracy and protect our rights, together.

Before I end this message, I want to talk about what happens if Republicans do go forward with their plan to railroad Dr. Blasey Ford and to fast-track Kavanaugh's confirmation.

If Republicans ram this through, it's our job to band together and say, "Enough!" Our job to make this an electoral issue. To make sure this costs Republicans extra seats this fall (and I say extra seats, because I believe that the way things are going already, if enough of us step up, we can take back the House and maybe even the Senate).

I'll tell you: If Republicans force this, they will have to face women (and their allies) back in their home districts. And at the voting booths this November, these constituents will make it clear to them that this was the last straw—the issue that cost Republicans the Senate.

If you are ready to fight with me and MoveOn until the last vote is cast, and then work to defeat the incredibly disrespectful Republicans who are trying to ram Kavanaugh's nomination through, will you chip in $3 right now?

Yes, I'm ready to help make sure that Republicans shut up, step up, and do the right thing—or pay for it by losing extra seats in this fall's election.

Thanks for all you do.

Mahalo.

Sunday: Ready to mobilize?

Join a national call Sunday night to hear about the attacks happening to families, and how we can rise up together.

Dear MoveOn member,

Forty-six days until Election Day.

I'll be hosting our next Resist & Win call this Sunday, September 23—a chance to join tens of thousands of fellow participants to hear about the ongoing work and how you can get involved. This Sunday's call is focused on "Families Rising Together"—how we're confronting the relentless assaults on our families, and how we're taking action across generations to win elections across the country on November 6.

Because you have registered for our Sunday night national organizing call series in the past, a few minutes before the training begins, you'll receive a call at the phone number you previously listed. No further actions is required, though you can click here to register a different phone number or come back to this link at the time of the call to listen via computer.

In the past weeks ...

  • MoveOn members joined volunteer waves to talk directly to voters in 100 districts across the country.
  • We endorsed more than 100 candidates in mostly Republican-held seats—expanding the electoral map and, in the process, supporting candidates ready to fight for Medicare for All, the Dream Act, reforms to protect us from Big Money, and so much more.
  • MoveOn members across the country made tens of thousands of calls to the Senate to demand all senators say no to Brett Kavanaugh—and ran a full-page ad in the largest newspaper in Maine calling on Sen. Collins to stop his nomination.
  • I've been on MSNBC and CNN representing MoveOn's millions of members—making the case that this election is about taking on a rigged system and stopping these attacks on our communities.
  • On our Resist & Win national mobilizing call last Sunday, more than 50,000 of us tuned in to hear from Senator Jeff Merkley, national advocacy leaders, and fellow MoveOn members about the midterm elections, what's at stake, and how we'll win.

That's right, 50,000 folks joining together to discuss the stakes and learn how to get involved—and then pivot into taking action. It's a surge of energy that will keep growing and that we are counting on to help us win in 46 days.

resist and win call

This election's stakes are high for all of us—for our families and for generations to come.

Trump's administration continues to separate families—and is actively exploring ways to detain children longer than currently legally permitted—and the Republicans in Congress won't take action.

Gun violence terrorizes our schools and our communities—and Republicans in Congress defend the NRA rather than the rest of us.

Republicans continue to attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act—with new attacks on protections for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions.

Trump continues to interfere in the Mueller investigation, and following the breaking news today, we need to be ready to act if he fires the man who oversees the investigation, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. If anything breaks in this area, we'll be sure to cover it on Sunday.

And ... Brett Kavanaugh. Republicans are trying to rush through a Supreme Court nominee who can cement their anti-woman, anti-LGBTQ, anti-environment, pro-corporate agenda—without pausing for an investigation into credible accusations of sexual assault, an inquiry into the lies he told under oath, or the chance to review over 100,000 pages of his record that have yet to be released.

These are assaults on our children, our parents, our community, and our futures. But when our families are under attack, we know we can rise together. And that's what we're going to do over the next 46 days and beyond.

If you're ready to stand up for our rights, our children, our families, and our future but want to learn more or find out how, then join our hourlong Resist & Win mobilizing call this Sunday! Just remember to pick up the phone or tune in online on Sunday night.

Here's who is joining us on Sunday:

  • Ai-Jen Poo, National Domestic Workers Alliance
  • Shaunna Thomas, UltraViolet
  • Elissa Hackerson, Resist & Win Leader and Wave host from Virginia
  • Michelle Slaughter, Resist & Win Regional Organizing Manager
  • Me—MoveOn's national spokesperson and senior strategist Karine Jean-Pierre (I'll be hosting)
  • ... and tens of thousands of MoveOn members, friends, voters, allies, and people ready to take action.

Be part of this call on Sunday—part conversation, part training, part rally, and all of it critical information and opportunities to rise together over the 46 days until Election Day.

Thanks for all you do.

–Karine, Corinne, Rohan, Karthik, and the rest of the team

P.S. If you're ready to take action now, find a volunteer wave near you in the upcoming weeks or take a few minutes to record a video to help mobilize voters here. And then be sure to join us on Sunday night.

Are you ready to help power a blue wave? Hillary Clinton and Helen Keller (petition)

Sign the petition to stop the Texas School Board of Education from eliminating Helen Keller and Hillary Clinton from the history curriculum.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

The Texas State Board of Education recently voted to eliminate Helen Keller and Hillary Clinton from the required history curriculum.1 This erases the contributions groundbreaking women have made in our nation.

Tell the Texas State Board of Education: Don't eliminate Helen Keller and Hillary Clinton from the history curriculum.

In addition to her many years of public service, Clinton was the first woman to be the nominee for president of a major political party. That is important history.

Hellen Keller was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree and was a pioneer in the disability rights movement.

USA Today reports the Republican-dominated board's decision could affect over 5 million public school students, so we have to wonder if political beliefs are a factor.2

I hope people from around the country will sign and share this petition. The final vote by the SBOE will take place on Thursday, November 15, 2018.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends and family—especially those in Texas.

Thanks!

–Joy Benson

FW: It's Ben—the ice cream guy

Imagine if that billboard, along with news on the Mueller investigation, gave out free ice cream with flavors whose names call attention to the various indictments! (Everything is always better with ice cream, right?)

Hi Eddie—I wanted to make sure you saw my message from the other day.

Hi there!

It's Ben. Which Ben? The ice cream guy … that one from Ben & Jerry's!

I can't tell you how sick I am of the big baby in the White House mouthing off about the Mueller investigation "witch hunt."

Because you know what? That investigation is working! Robert Mueller is uncovering crimes, netting indictments, and getting guilty pleas—including the bombshell announcement from Donald Trump's campaign chairman Paul Manafort that he will cooperate with the investigation, announced just last Friday. The fact that the investigation is so effective, moving closer and closer to Trump himself, is probably why he's so bothered by it.

But Trump's tweets are the thing in the headlines, not all the news about how much muck Mueller is finding.

So let's change that.

Imagine an ice cream truck attached to a giant billboard keeping a running tally of the number of indictments, guilty pleas, and guilty verdicts, parked in strategic places in Washington, D.C.—outside the White House, across the street from Senate office buildings, next to the Watergate Hotel, and in front of the Russian embassy—shining a spotlight on all of the wrongdoing that Mueller's investigation is uncovering.

Now imagine if that billboard, along with news on the Mueller investigation, gave out free ice cream with flavors whose names call attention to the various indictments! (Everything is always better with ice cream, right?)

That ice-cream-slinging billboard could be a reality!

Right now, MoveOn is working to launch a democracy-defending, corruption-exposing ice cream truck in Washington, D.C., that will broadcast the latest count of indictments and guilty pleas in a real-time, social-media-friendly, visual, attention-grabbing way.

Imagine Americans from all walks of life sharing photos and comments about the truck wherever they see it, and the truck becoming a fixture on local and national news. And if the idea catches on, MoveOn will have even bigger impact by sending GUILTY PLEA-SURES on the road for a month this fall, before the midterms in November. Here is a sneak-peak of our new logo:

Will you chip in $3 to help us go on the road to advertise Mueller's success, counter Donald Trump's and Giuliani's lies, defend democracy ... and have some delicious fun in the process?

MoveOn, its members, and allies are fighting to defend the Mueller investigation on many fronts: They're flooding Congress with calls, producing videos with legal experts that are being seen hundreds of thousands of times, and making sure that Republicans know that there will be political consequences for putting Trump above the law.

But we need to do more. So why ice cream?

  • We need to break through the noise. Trump and Giuliani are loud. Noisy. They take up a lot of media space. So MoveOn needs to do something that gets attention. A mobile billboard in the nation's capital—that could travel to other media hotspots—can grab attention. And it will be designed to capture the public imagination—so folks will share, tweet, and post about it.
  • We need public awareness. Right now, the investigation feels removed to too many Americans. So MoveOn will invite folks to have ice cream—meeting them where they are, engaging them directly in a discussion of the real criminal activity that the Mueller investigation is uncovering, and asking them to share on social media, so that the conversation spreads even farther.
  • It's all about the numbers. Thirty six indictments. Fifteen guilty pleas. Eight felony convictions. The more people know these numbers, the more MoveOn will be able to protect Mueller's investigation and hold Trump and his cronies accountable.
  • It'll drive the right wing crazy. Seriously: The funny, catchy ideas can grab attention—and drawing the right-wing media and even Trump himself into a social media scrape can only help promote the impact of Mueller's work.

MoveOn is launching GUILTY PLEA-SURES on top of all of the crucial work that it's already doing—to supplement the calls, actions, traditional media work, video production, and more. But to make this extraordinary, necessary ice cream truck a reality, we need your help:

Will you pitch in $3 now to get MoveOn's mobile-billboard ice cream truck on the road?

Thanks for all you do.
