Please read this email. It's important.

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's Chief Operating Officer. As "the numbers guy," I write to MoveOn members very rarely. But I'm writing to you today because right now the fate of two of our three branches of government is up for grabs, and I need to be honest that we need your help, Eddie.

Hi, MoveOn member!

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's Chief Operating Officer. As "the numbers guy," I write to MoveOn members very rarely. But I'm writing to you today because the fate of two of our three branches of government is up for grabs, and I need to be honest that we need your help, Eddie.

On Tuesday, confirmation hearings begin for Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. If the 53-year-old, ultra-conservative, Republican political operative is confirmed, the Court will lurch to the right—and likely stay there for decades—ensuring the system is rigged to benefit the rich and powerful even more than it is today and with devastating consequences for women, Black and brown Americans, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community.

We just helped lead the largest mobilization ever against a Supreme Court nominee. And with the confirmation hearings about to begin, it's go-time to stop Kavanaugh.

And at the same time, there are just 10 weeks until the most consequential midterm election in our lifetimes. The MoveOn staff just wrapped up an intensive final two-day planning session, and next week we begin our final sprint to Election Day, when we'll end Republican control of Congress and elect bold, inspiring progressive leaders to federal, state, and local offices all over the country.

It's a lot to do all at once. And it's going to take a ton of energy, time, and—importantly—money. Which is why I'm asking you:

Will you chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to help MoveOn raise $140,000 before September 1 (tomorrow), so we are on firm financial footing as we enter the fall?

Yes, I'm in. I'll chip in right now.

We have to walk and chew gum at the same time right now—by giving it our all to save the Supreme Court and seeing through the biggest elections program in MoveOn's 20-year history (not to mention also fighting as hard as we can on the other issues and crises that our country is grappling with).

I know firsthand just how much you and our other members have invested in this movement already. I wouldn't ask you again if it weren't so important. With your support, we will take our very best shot at stopping Kavanaugh, while creating a blue wave that washes out the Republican-controlled Congress.

This is crunch time for our democracy. Click here to chip in $3 right now to help meet our crucial fundraising goal.

MoveOn is ready for this challenge. We've been preparing for it for months, planning, budgeting, and organizing in order to have the biggest impact as possible—and we hit the ground running months ago.

We're closing in on the finish line now, which means it is time to buckle down and work even harder to stop a very dangerous Supreme Court nominee and also ensure that when we all wake up on November 7, we wake up to a brand-new Congress that will actually take on Trump, inspiring leaders at the state and local level who will stand up for our communities, and a president who knows his days are numbered.

Click here right now to chip in $3 to help meet our goal of raising $140,000 by midnight tonight, so MoveOn has the resources to enable me to approve critical expenses for all of this important work.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Fox, Chief Operating Officer

Our hugely ambitious plan (and how you can help)

The bottom line is: We have to walk and chew gum at the same time right now—first, by going full speed ahead on our midterm election strategy, and second, by fighting as hard as we can to stop Kavanaugh.

Hi, MoveOn member!

This is Robert Fox, MoveOn's Chief Operating Officer. I'm the "numbers guy" around here, and I don't write MoveOn members very often most of the year—but the truth is that you'll be hearing from me a bit more in the next couple of months as Election Day approaches, with updates on how things are going. I'm writing you today to share an important update with five key numbers.

67. When the clock strikes twelve on Friday night, we will have only 67 days left until the most important midterm elections of our lifetimes. Only 67 days to do the work in order to end GOP control of Congress and ensure that the blue wave comes to wash away Donald Trump's agenda.

100. That's the number of congressional candidates that MoveOn will be endorsing and supporting through the midterms in an effort to flip the House and infuse new bold, progressive leadership into Congress. Polling expert Nate Silver projects that control of the House will most likely be determined by the results from fewer than 10 seats, which means we have a razor-thin margin for error.1 In order to succeed, tens of thousands of MoveOn members will be volunteering, making calls, knocking on doors, and ensuring that their communities get out and vote on November 6.

Hundreds of thousands. That's the number of votes for progressive candidates we are aiming to secure using our brand-new innovative program called Real Voter Voices. This program helps constituents share why they are voting for specific candidates, and then it relies on our brilliant analytics team to help target those messages to the right voters to help ensure that they vote on Election Day. We know this program works: In early tests during the Conor Lamb and Doug Jones races, Real Voter Voices moved enough votes to have a major impact in those extremely close contests.

Millions. That is the number of voters we will be contacting in these last 67 days. Using email, text messaging, phone calls, social media, and good old-fashioned knocking on doors, MoveOn staff and members will be everywhere to make sure that voters go to the polls to kick Trump's cronies out of office.

$140,000. That's how many dollars we still have left to raise before midnight Friday to stay on pace for our grassroots fundraising goals. The truth is that we're very careful with our budgeting, and if we fall behind this month, we'll be fine in the long run. But we'll have to either send more fundraising emails than we'd like later in the election cycle or spend less on critical program work. And what I really want us to focus on right now is running our incredible programs—and winning!

Eddie, I want to make sure that our grassroots fundraising stays on pace so that we can focus on executing excellent campaign work, NOT sending you more fundraisers. That's why I'm asking for your help today to keep us on target.

Can you rush a $3 donation right now to help us meet our $140,000 grassroots fundraising goal—so that we can hit the ground running in September?

I am so incredibly proud to be a part of MoveOn. Our small-but-mighty staff and millions of dedicated members are doing so much every day to stop Trump and his enablers in Congress at the ballot box, while also working as hard as possible on so many other fronts. Here are just a few more numbers for you:

  • Tens of thousands of MoveOn members showed up last Sunday to attend rallies opposing the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh—the single largest protest against a Supreme Court nominee in history. On top of that, MoveOn members and our allies are ramping up our efforts by making thousands of calls to Congress, signing petitions, and joining actions to oppose Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearings beginning next week.
  • Over 380,000 MoveOn members have signed up for our rapid-response network to take action immediately if Trump fires special counsel Robert Mueller or attempts to shut down his investigation. In just the past ten days, there have been sixteen guilty verdicts related to the investigation, and it's clear that Robert Muller is closing in and Trump is getting scared. That means he could make a move to end the investigation at any moment, and we have to be ready to take to the streets in response.
  • Hundreds of thousands of SMS messages are being sent to voters per day by a dedicated core of MoveOn volunteers. And that's just the beginning! We're in the process of scaling up our program to reach tens of millions of voters by Election Day. To do that, I need to approve expenses to spin up new servers, pay for programmers, and bring on two new staff to coordinate the thousands of volunteers whom we expect to sign up for this amazing program.
  • MoveOn members have raised over $600,000 to help elect inspiring leaders at the state and local level—such as Stacey Abrams in Georgia and Andrew Gillum in Florida—who will not only take on Trump but will build a bench of progressive leaders up and down the ballot for years to come. Many of these inspiring candidates are also fighting back back against voter suppression—and we will have a better chance of winning the White House in 2020 with them in office.

This is crunch time for our democracy, Eddie. Click here to chip in $3 right now to make sure we meet our fundraising goal.

In a normal election year, we would have shut down our issue campaigning right now and focused exclusively on elections. But this is no ordinary time.

Next Tuesday, right after Labor Day, Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings begin. And it is also crunch time for our election program. I'll start off next week by making important decisions about what expenses I can approve, and knowing that we are on track will help me focus on what matters: winning.

The bottom line is: We have to walk and chew gum at the same time right now—first, by going full speed ahead on our midterm election strategy, and second, by fighting as hard as we can to stop Kavanaugh. And—on top of it all—we need to be on constant guard against other Trump surprises—including an attempt to fire Robert Mueller.

Fighting on these fronts is going to take a ton of energy, time, and, importantly, money. But it's absolutely necessary because two of our three branches of government—the courts and Congress—hang in the balance. Will you help us keep on pace?

Click here right now to chip in $3 before midnight on Friday to help me meet our goal of raising $140,000 before September 1, and help make sure I am able to approve critical expenses for all of this important work.

MoveOn is ready for this challenge. We've been preparing for it for months, planning, budgeting, and organizing in order to have the biggest impact as possible. And thanks to the generous support of grassroots supporters like you, we've already hit the ground running.

We're incredibly close to meeting our goal for this month, with $140,000 to go. Can you help put us over the finish line today?

Click here to chip in $3 right now and help make it happen.

With your help, we will start off September strong and ready to work even harder to ensure that when we all wake up on November 7, we wake up to not just a Democratically controlled Congress, but one with bold progressive lawmakers who will actually take on Trump and build an America where everyone can thrive.

With your help, we will elect inspiring leaders at the state and local level who will stand up for our communities and stop Republican efforts to steal future elections for House, Senate and the presidency through voter suppression.

And with your help, we will wake up to a president who knows his days are numbered.

Thanks for all you do.

Dear MoveOn member,

On Sunday, across all 50 states, we saw the biggest nationwide protest about the Supreme Court in our country's history. Tens of thousands of people turned out, because it's abundantly clear that confirming extremist Brett Kavanaugh for a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court would cement the worst of Trump's policies in place for a generation.

We want to learn how the event was and get your feedback on things we can do to improve the experience of hosts and attendees and to maximize our impact when planning future events.

A huge surprise upset (and what it means)

Last night, progressive Andrew Gillum did what many thought was impossible: He won the Democratic primary for governor of Florida! He is a bold, powerful voice for change with a real chance to turn Florida blue—and Republicans are running scared.

Dear MoveOn member,

Last night, progressive Andrew Gillum did what many thought was impossible: He won the Democratic primary for governor of Florida! He is a bold, powerful voice for change with a real chance to turn Florida blue—and Republicans are running scared. Which is why, less than 24 hours after his victory, the vicious attacks from the right have already begun.

This morning, Donald Trump called him a "failed socialist," and Andrew's opponent in the race, Rep. Ron DeSantis—who was hand-picked by Trump himself—went even further and employed a disgusting, racially charged epithet as a way to discredit him.1,2

Let's be very clear: These types of attacks should have no place in our politics or our society today. And the best rebuke to these down-in-the-gutter tactics? Electing incredible leaders like Andrew Gillum and showing Trump and his allies the power of the Resistance.

Click here right now to chip in $3 to Andrew's campaign and help elect the first Black governor of Florida. 100% of your donation will go to his campaign.

Let me tell you a little bit about Andrew Gillum.

His mother drove a school bus, and his father was a construction worker—humble roots in the life of a public servant who has dedicated his entire career to fighting for those who deserve a seat at the table.3

Andrew is the mayor of Tallahassee, where he worked to develop a thriving and fair economy, took on the gun lobby and won, and stood up to President Trump and right-wing Governor Rick Scott to defend immigrant communities.

He ran an unapologetic, progressive campaign in Florida—shocking a lot of people who wrote him off in his primary. But that bruising primary win has left his campaign with little money at a time when GOP megadonors such as the Koch brothers are going to spend millions to tear him down.

Can you rush a contribution of $3 or more to Andrew Gillum's bold, progressive campaign for Florida governor? Every donation matters for his team after a bruising and costly primary.

This morning's attacks make one thing very clear: Republicans are so terrified of the blue wave headed their way this November that they are willing to engage in gutter tactics.

They know that Americans are itching for change and want elected officials like Andrew to represent them.

Gillum will fight to end "stand your ground," to support single-payer health care, to transition off fossil fuels, and to stop severe voter suppression efforts that have taken place in Florida for far too long. (Those efforts, in addition to the 5-4 Bush v. Gore decision by a right-wing Supreme Court, cost us the White House in 2000.) So whether you live in California (as I do) or another state, this race should matter to you. I'm hoping you'll help out. So I'm asking:

Will you join me right now and chip in $3 to his campaign to help Andrew fight back and win?

Thanks for all you do.

—Kamala Harris

P.S. This race matters. To all of us.

If we'd had a scrupulously fair-minded governor in the Florida governor's mansion back in 2000, history might have turned out very, very different. Taking back the governor's mansion in Florida is CRITICAL to the 2020 elections. And Gillum will fight to end stand your ground, to support single-payer health care, to transitioning off fossil fuels, and more. So I'm asking:

Will you join me right now and chip in $3 to help elect Andrew Gillum the first Black governor of Florida?

Biggest SCOTUS protest in history!

I'll just be blunt with you, Eddie. If Kavanaugh is confirmed, he will rule for giant corporations and powerful interests on critical cases affecting the lives of Americans for a generation.

Dear MoveOn member,

I've been doing everything I can to stop Donald Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. MoveOn and its members have been fighting back too.

This past weekend, tens of thousands of you participated in the largest mobilization against a Supreme Court nominee in history. And I know that in the halls of Congress, your efforts are making a real difference.

But now, it's crunch time. In just seven days, Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing will start in the Senate, and Republicans are determined to rush his confirmation through before the midterms. Why? Because they're so terrified of losing their chance to confirm a far-right-wing Supreme Court nominee that they'll let Donald Trump—an alleged unindicted co-conspirator in a federal crime—make a lifetime appointment of a justice who could give him a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Eddie, if you can help with MoveOn's effort to speak out against Brett Kavanaugh, there's no time to waste. That's why we're asking you today: Will you chip in $3 and help MoveOn sustain the biggest campaign against a Supreme Court nominee in U.S. history?

Yes, Elizabeth, I'll chip in right now. I'll do what I can to stop Brett Kavanaugh from becoming a Supreme Court justice.

Isn't the playing field already tilted enough to benefit the rich and the powerful?

Are we really going to let our government send poor women to the back alleys for abortions, while only those who can afford to travel to blue states get to access abortion care and other critical medical care that health clinics like Planned Parenthood's currently provide?

Are we going to let our government repeal protections for people with pre-existing medical conditions, so that only millionaires and billionaires can pay for health care?

Are we going to let our government gut the rules so that big banks can rip off middle-class Americans and giant corporations can dump toxic chemicals into our rivers and lakes?

I'll just be blunt with you, Eddie. If Kavanaugh is confirmed, he will rule for giant corporations and powerful interests on critical cases affecting the lives of Americans for a generation. Democrats are doing all they can to stop his confirmation, but we just don't have the votes to stop his dangerous lifetime appointment—even if we are 100% united. But that doesn't mean we can't win.

Last year, we convinced three of my Republican colleagues in the Senate to vote to stop Trumpcare. I believe that if enough of us speak out, we can convince Republican senators to do what's right once again and vote against Kavanaugh.

I'm asking for you to pitch in to support MoveOn, as all of us work our hearts out to block Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court. Can we count on you to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford?

Yes, Elizabeth, I'll pitch in to MoveOn to help the effort to stop Donald Trump's nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court!

On virtually every issue, Kavanaugh sides with the rich and powerful—and against everyone else.

  • He would almost certainly vote to overturn or gut Roe v. Wade. Kavanaugh's name was picked off the lists of two anti-choice groups. Rich women will still be able to access abortion out of state, but poor and even middle-class women—anyone without the means to take off days or weeks of work, plan a long journey, and pay to travel thousands of miles—would be forced into back alleys.
  • He ruled against parts of the Affordable Care Act. And he could serve as the deciding vote on crucial health matters such as pre-existing conditions, lifetime caps, and more.
  • And he's consistently sided with big corporations. We fought like hell to create the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), because we believe that our government should work for the people. But Kavanaugh believes that government should work for the rich and powerful. He ruled that the CFPB is unconstitutional. And he has also repeatedly sided with polluter corporations against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

We may lose this David vs. Goliath fight. But if we don't fight, we can't win. We've won tough fights before, and that's why MoveOn and I are doing everything we can—and we hope you will, too.

Will you do everything you can to stop Brett Kavanaugh? Your donation of $3, or whatever you can afford to give, will go a long way to help MoveOn in this fight.

Think for a moment about why you're in this fight. Maybe you care about the economy and about giving the children in your life a real chance to build a future. Or maybe you're fed up with our broken criminal justice system. Or maybe you believe strongly in the right of every person to make decisions over their own body.

I'm in this fight because I grew up on the ragged edge of the middle class, in an America that believed in second chances and in an America that still invested in kids like me. And I believe every kid should have the same opportunities that I had to succeed.

And I'm in this fight because I believe that poor women shouldn't get injured or die because rich and powerful men want to control their bodies.

If Brett Kavanaugh casts the deciding vote to repeal or cripple Roe v. Wade, a few rich women may still have options, but those without resources will be crushed. Without Roe v. Wade, without access to appropriate care, women will die.

If Kavanaugh repeals pre-existing protections and lifetime caps, millionaires will be just fine. Poor people will be bankrupt when they get sick, and unable to access medical care, people will even die.

If Kavanaugh casts the deciding vote to demolish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, Wall Street will go back to the days of scamming their customers and gambling with our economy We cannot let them crash our economy as they did in 2008.

Every Supreme Court fight is a fight for the heart and soul of America. But this one is the most powerfully important fight of our generation.

That's why I'm in this fight. And I'm glad MoveOn members like you are in this fight with us.

With just a week left until Kavanaugh's Senate hearing starts, it's time to make our voices heard. Eddie, if you are committed to helping to win this life-or-death fight, now is the moment to step up. MoveOn and I are giving this fight our all. Will you fight alongside us?

If you can chip in $3, please do it. If you can chip in even more, please do it. But with just seven days left, the most important thing is that you commit to getting in this fight.

Thanks so much for all you do.

–Elizabeth Warren

Sign my petition

The Senate must reject any SCOTUS nominee from an alleged criminal co-conspirator—especially when that nominee may rule to protect Trump from any accountability.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump's personal lawyer has sworn under oath that Trump directed him to commit federal crimes.1

The Judiciary Committee should stop the Supreme Court hearings that are scheduled for early September and deal with the urgent matter of a president being credibly implicated in a criminal conspiracy.

Sign the petition if you agree the Senate should deal with the matter of a president being credibly implicated in federal crimes instead of considering a nominee who might well cast the deciding vote to put Trump above the law.

The Senate must reject any Supreme Court nominee from an alleged criminal co-conspirator—especially when that nominee may rule to protect Trump from any accountability.

Let's look at the facts. Several of the people closest to Donald Trump, including his former personal lawyer (Michael Cohen), former campaign chairman (Paul Manafort), former national security adviser (Michael Flynn), and others, have either been convicted of or have pleaded guilty to a range of federal offenses—including campaign finance violations allegedly at the direction of candidate Trump.2

Meanwhile, Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's Supreme Court nominee, has argued that a sitting president cannot be criminally indicted or even a subject of a criminal investigation while in office. The consequences of his confirmation could be enormous: Kavanaugh could become Trump's shield against accountability.3

We must let Special Counsel Robert Mueller complete his investigation before proceeding with any Supreme Court confirmation hearings.

No American citizen under criminal investigation is able to choose their own judge. The president shouldn't be an exception.

Sign the petition if you agree that consideration of Supreme Court nominees must be paused while the President of the United States is an alleged co-conspirator in the commission of federal crimes.

Thank you.

–Senator Cory Booker

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

"RBG" is a must-have film, and it's being released on August 28. But you can pre-order a limited-edition copy on DVD or Blu-ray now from MoveOn!

Dear MoveOn member,

In the widely acclaimed feature documentary "RBG," Ruth Bader Ginsburg says, "I ask no favor for my sex. All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks."

Justice Ginsburg is a fighter, an inspiration, and an icon—and this documentary telling the story of how she became a lawyer "when women were not wanted by the legal profession," explores her life and career fighting for women's rights. It even includes a scene with her, at age 83, doing pushups and planks with her personal trainer so she can stay in fighting shape for years to come.

"RBG" is a must-have film, and it's being released on August 28. But you can pre-order a limited-edition copy on DVD or Blu-ray now from MoveOn!

Instead of giving your money to a big corporation, you'll support MoveOn—and help us block Brett Kavanaugh from a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court.

Click here now to order your limited-edition copy from MoveOn, while supplies last.

When Ginsburg went to law school, it was legal to discriminate on the basis of sex. The dean of Harvard Law School at the time even asked Ginsburg how she could justify taking a man's spot in her law school class. When she graduated at the top of her class at law school, she couldn't get a job at a law firm, because she was a woman, a mother, and Jewish.

But Ginsburg persisted and began her trailblazing work for women's rights. In the documentary, Ginsburg recalls, "I did see my job as a kind of kindergarten teacher in those days, because the judges didn't think sex discrimination existed."

Ginsburg went on to win five groundbreaking rulings that made incredible progress for women. And this month, she marked her 25th anniversary fighting for justice on the Supreme Court.

You don't want to miss this opportunity to get a limited-edition copy of the documentary on DVD or Blu-ray. Click here to order your copy now.

When you get "RBG" from MoveOn, we'll put your money to work stopping Kavanaugh's lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and standing up for the progressive values we believe in.

This octogenarian rock star will inspire you as you watch her craft blistering dissents late into the night and do pushups and squats.

Want to support MoveOn's work without getting a DVD? We are working every day to stop the confirmation of a Supreme Court justice to a lifetime appointment while the investigation into Donald Trump is ongoing. Because a vote for Kavanaugh is a vote to let Trump fire special counsel Robert Mueller—and get away with it. "I believe," wrote Kavanaugh, "that the President should be excused from some of the burdens of ordinary citizenship while serving in office ... We should not burden a sitting President with civil suits, criminal investigations, or criminal prosecutions." He went on to add that presidents should have "absolute discretion" to fire special counsels if that president believes they are "out to get him." Will you chip in and help us work to ensure that Brett Kavanaugh is not confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court?

Sign the petition: Hyatt, don't host anti-Muslim conference

Hyatt is set to host the annual conference for the largest anti-Muslim hate group in the country.

Dear MoveOn member,

ACT for America is an anti-Muslim hate group that has led "marches against Sharia" during Ramadan, falsely claimed that Islam is a "political ideology masquerading as a religion," and that "no practicing Muslim can be a loyal American."1 And the Hyatt Regency in Crystal City, Virginia, is hosting its annual meeting in September.2

Will you sign my petition demanding Hyatt stop hosting hate groups, like ACT for America?

Hyatt Hotels Corporation is set to host the annual conference for the largest anti-Muslim hate group in the country, ACT for America, in September. Other major hotel chains have denied hate groups, but Hyatt continues to accept them with open arms. Tell Hyatt there's #NoRoomforHate.

To make matters worse, while other major hospitality companies, including Hilton, Airbnb, Sofitel, and the Willard Hotel refused to host hate groups and have disassociated their organizations with bigots, Hyatt is welcoming ACT with open arms and actively associating itself with dangerous anti-Muslim ideology. The hotel chain continues to erroneously say that it would be illegal to turn the group away.

Hyatt has "justified" hosting the conference by claiming it "does not unlawfully discriminate against groups who wish to hold lawful meetings at the hotel." But Hyatt is distorting civil rights laws. There are no laws in Virginia or at the federal level that require a hotel to host a hate group such as ACT for America.3

We have the power to stop this. If we raise our voices, we can tell Hyatt loud and clear that we won't stand for hate—not in our homes, not in our hotels, and not in our nation.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Erasing the Black vote

I marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, to help pass the Voting Rights Act. I was physically beaten while advocating for its passage, and many of my brothers and sisters lost their lives fighting to give Black people the right to vote.

Dear MoveOn member,

Fifty-three years ago this month, I stood behind President Lyndon Johnson and watched him sign into law the Voting Rights Act.

I marched across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, to help pass that law. I was physically beaten while advocating for its passage, and many of my brothers and sisters lost their lives fighting to give Black people the right to vote.

It is why I never take voting for granted, and why I was so shocked and disheartened to learn last week that my beloved state of Georgia was considering shutting down multiple polling places in majority-Black counties right before the midterm elections—when my state has the chance to elect Stacey Abrams, becoming the first in the nation to elect a Black woman governor.1

I know why Republicans in Georgia are desperate to bar voters from the polls this November: They are terrified of Stacey Abrams.

Stacey has been running an inspiring, once-in-a-generation campaign, and people across Georgia—from big cities like Atlanta to small, rural farm towns—are flocking to her because of her message and because they want to elect a progressive leader that will truly represent all of Georgia.

It is no wonder that the secretary of state in Georgia—who just so happens to be Stacey's Republican opponent in this race—has been purging the voter rolls and playing every dirty trick possible in order to stop voters from giving Stacey the win that she deserves this November.2

Which is why I'm writing to you today with a simple request: Can you chip in $3 right now directly to Stacey Abrams' campaign to give her the fuel to fight back against these attacks?

Yes, Congressman Lewis. I'm in to support Stacey Abrams.

Stacey Abrams is a force to be reckoned with, and when she becomes the next governor of Georgia, she will defend equality and justice just as fiercely as she now opposes the president's dangerous and divisive agenda. That's why the president has been attacking Stacey and why he was so involved in hand-picking her opponent.

But Stacey is not one to back down from a fight. She grew up in a family with very little and pulled herself up to become a Yale Law School graduate, the first-ever Black woman to lead a party in Georgia's legislature, and, now, the first Black woman to win the nomination for governor for a major party anywhere in America. She has spent her life advocating for equality, owns a small business that helps employ thousands of people in Georgia, and has registered hundreds of thousands of people in our state—significantly, people of color, the very same people that her opponent is trying to block from voting.3

When I think of Stacey, I see the continuation of the civil rights movement, and I refuse to allow the GOP to silence the voices of the very people that I fought for, that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought and died for, and that people like Stacey are fighting for today.

Please, click here right now to chip in $3 to Stacey Abrams' historic campaign. 100% of your donation will go directly to her campaign.

Many of my friends gave their lives for our right to vote. I think about them every time I go into a voting booth. We must never forget the sacrifice that so many made to get us here, and we must never, ever go back.

Stacey Abrams is the living embodiment of that powerful, blood-won truth, and it is on us to stand beside her and march with her toward victory.

Click here to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to her campaign right now.

Thanks for being a part of this.

What's happening in Inwood?

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear Eddie,

I used MoveOn's free petition platform last year to help convince the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to reject money from the gun, tobacco, and, payday loan industries. Thousands of people from across the country signed on to say our politics shouldn't be bought off by special interests―and our voices were heard!

If you're passionate about making a change in your community or want to have an impact on issues that matter to you, click here to create your own petition.

Progressive issues such as ending corporate influence on our politics are important to me, because our daughter was slaughtered at a movie theater in the 2012 Aurora, Colorado, mass shooting. My husband and I are trying our best to turn our mourning into something positive for others―which is why we were so inspired by the thousands who signed our petition last year.

I have been organizing and speaking out wherever I can―in front of Congress, in media interviews, at rallies to stop gun violence, and by working with organizations across the country. My MoveOn petition was a critical part of mobilizing caring people to make progress, but we can't stop now.

Do you have any ideas for a petition for Inwood or nationwide that could build power on an issue you care about? Click here to start building power with your petition.

By using MoveOn's free, user-friendly petition tools, you can create your very own petition in just minutes.

I know from personal experience that MoveOn will support you as your petition is taking off, from helping build support for your petition by connecting you to other MoveOn members to reimbursing you for printing costs to deliver your petition in person.

It can feel frustrating to wait for others to initiate changes in your community or on issues which mean so much to you. Don't wait. You can start organizing now.

Will you start a petition right now on an issue that you're passionate about, from a local all the way up to a national level?

Thanks for all you do.

Sign the petition to stop Betsy DeVos from putting guns in schools

Sign the petition telling Betsy DeVos to use federal funds for education not putting guns into schools.

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Anna Fusco, Broward Teachers Union president in Florida, and I started a petition to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos because she is considering a plan that would allow states to use Title IV federal funds to purchase guns for teachers.1

Arming teachers is not a solution to school shootings. Educators want to teach, not be armed at school. Students and parents want schools to be safe and welcoming places.

Sign the petition to say you support resources for educators, not arming teachers in schools.

I demand that Betsy DeVos and the Department of Education immediately halt plans to arm teachers and use the Title IV funds for what they were intended: Providing a well-rounded education, improving school conditions for learning, and improving the use of technology for digital literacy.

I pray that there will never be another school shooting like the one we lived through in Parkland, FL. Just earlier this year, it never occurred to me that we'd be in a situation where we might have a secretary of education consider diverting resources that are used to support poor kids in order to flood schools with more guns.

As The New York Times reported, such a move would reverse a long-standing position taken by the federal government that it should not pay to outfit schools with weapons. And it would also undermine efforts by Congress to restrict the use of federal funding for guns. As recently as March, Congress passed a school safety bill that allocated $50 million a year to local school districts but expressly prohibited the use of the money for firearms.2

The reporting goes on to say that the $1 billion student support program, part of the Every Student Succeeds Act, is intended for academic and enrichment opportunities in the country's poorest schools, and it calls for school districts to use the money toward meeting three goals: Providing a well-rounded education, improving school conditions for learning, and improving the use of technology for digital literacy.3

Sign the petition telling Betsy DeVos that you agree with educators, students, and parents who have made clear that they don't want more guns in schools; teachers want to teach and students want to learn.

Rather than disregard the demands and needs of the people who know what our schools require, the Department of Education should use Title IV funding to:

● Provide a well-rounded education (examples include expanding AP courses and access to such courses, arts education, civics education, more college and career counseling, environmental education, expanding foreign language options, STEM, and social-emotional learning);
● Ensure safe and healthy students (including asthma management, bullying prevention, drug and violence prevention, indoor air quality, safe schools, mental health, and suicide prevention); and
● Provide effective use of technology.

We must stand with the education community now.

Send a message to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos that this plan is reckless, dangerous, and will have long-lasting effects on our students and our schools.

Thanks,

–Anna Fusco, Broward Teachers Union president

Notorious RBG

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was once asked in an interview when there would be enough women on the Supreme Court. Her answer? "When there are nine."

Dear MoveOn member,

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was once asked in an interview when there would be enough women on the Supreme Court. Her answer? "When there are nine."1

Earlier this month, Justice Ginsburg celebrated her 25th anniversary as a Supreme Court justice.

Throughout her entire career, both on the Court and before, she has shown again and again that she will stand up and fight for equality no matter what. It's no wonder that she's earned herself the title "Notorious RBG"—and why a documentary about her life and career received such massive acclaim earlier this year.

Now you can receive your own DVD of the film "RBG"—and support the work of MoveOn in fighting for equality and justice, stopping Brett Kavanaugh, and saving the Supreme Court.

Click here to order your MoveOn limited-edition copy of "RBG" on DVD or Blu-ray.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life's work has been to fight for equal rights for women and to end gender discrimination.

As a lawyer for the ACLU in the 1970s, she argued case after case in front of the Supreme Court, effectively dismantling discriminatory federal and state laws, and her work has been credited with significantly advancing women's rights in the U.S. Even Antonin Scalia called her the Thurgood Marshall of women's rights.2

And she had to fight to get there. The dean of Harvard Law School, where she was one of only nine female students, once asked her how she could justify taking a place away from a male student.3 And after graduating from law school, no firm would hire her, because she was Jewish, a woman, and a mother.4

This story is captured in the film "RBG"—and what timing! As we face the threat of a Trump-packed Supreme Court, we have the chance to be inspired by what a truly visionary justice can accomplish. (You'll even see a tour of the closet where she keeps all of her famous collars!)

Click here right now to get your limited-edition copy of "RBG" directly from MoveOn. Your donation will help to power MoveOn's crucial work to save the Supreme Court and to fight for justice and equality.

With confirmation hearings for Brett Kavanaugh starting in less than three weeks, it is more important than ever that we rise up to protect the Court from Donald Trump's terrifying agenda. Watching "RBG" is an inspiring reminder of what the Court can be and why this fight is one that we must win.

Click here right now to get your limited-edition copy of "RBG"—and let it inspire you to always continue the fight.

Thanks for all you do.

#StopKavanaugh on Sunday in Brooklyn

YOU'RE INVITED
Stop Kavanaugh
WHEN Sunday, August 26, 3:30 PM
WHERE 6th Avenue and 5th Street in front of Dry Cleaners
in Brooklyn, NY

Join a national day of action in all 50 states to demand all senators vote no and do everything in their power to stop Trump's extremist Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh.

Donald Trump has been personally implicated in election fraud. When Trump's personal lawyer pleaded guilty, he confessed to acting "in coordination with, and at the direction of" his client. And yet the Republican controlled Senate is rushing to confirm a Supreme Court justice who once argued that a sitting president is above the law. If confirmed to the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh could cast the deciding vote to let Trump off the hook. He could rubber-stamp Republican attacks on our communities. He could have a swing vote to decide whether Roe v. Wade lives or dies. He could decide whether we keep protections for 30 million people with preexisting conditions through the Affordable Care Act, whether we maintain the freedom to marry, and more. And Senate Republicans, who are rushing to confirm him within weeks, are blocking the release of tens of thousands of pages of his past records.

That's why we're taking action on August 26 across 150 events in all 50 states. We're demanding that our senators vote no on Trump's right-wing extremist Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh—and use every tool in their power to block his nomination.

Senators will be questioning him right after Labor Day, so it's critical that we take action now and hold their feet to the fire ahead of those hearings. So grab your protest sign and head to the Unite for Justice event near you on Sunday.

Will you show up on August 26 to protect our rights and oppose Kavanaugh's nomination for the Supreme Court?

An extraordinary moment (and that's saying a lot)

It's unbelievable, Eddie. Within just hours of unveiling my sweeping, new anti-corruption legislation:

It's unbelievable, Eddie.

Within just hours of unveiling my sweeping, new anti-corruption legislation yesterday:

  • Donald Trump's campaign manager was found guilty of tax fraud for money he laundered while working for Ukrainian politicians.
  • His lawyer pleaded guilty to tax evasion and to a campaign finance law violation for paying off Stormy Daniels.
  • And Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter—one of Donald Trump's first supporters in the House—was indicted by the Department of Justice for misusing $250,000 of campaign money for personal expenses.

We're going to fight our hearts out in the days, weeks, and months ahead to pass my anti-corruption bill into law and to hold our lawmakers accountable to the people. Yesterday proved just how powerfully important this fight will be.

But there's something that you can do right this minute to take on this corrupt machine: You can help Duncan Hunter's Democratic opponent—Ammar Campa-Najjar—so we can kick one more corrupt politician out of office and get one seat closer to taking back the House in 2018.

Will you chip in $3 now to help Ammar Campa-Najjar beat indicted Congressman Duncan Hunter?

Yes, I'll chip in right now to Ammar's campaign.

Ammar's fight for working families isn't just campaign rhetoric—it's a lifetime commitment to the people and country he loves. Ammar worked as a grassroots organizer for President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign and then went on to work in the White House and the Department of Labor.

While Duncan Hunter spends his time in Washington running up his campaign credit card and giving special favors to powerful interests, Ammar's been hard at work, listening to working people who feel abandoned.

Ammar has pledged not to take any corporate PAC money in his campaign for Congress, so he's not going to be bought by the giant corporations. And he's ready to join our fight to support working families and hold CEOs on Wall Street accountable.

We need to ban American lobbying for foreign governments, tighten the Swiss cheese definition of lobbying, and do a zillion other things to make this government work for the people. I'm ready to have that fight—and I hope you are too.

But right now, we can send a message that we're ready to fight by sending Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar to Congress in 2018.

Click here now to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to help defeat Duncan Hunter, elect Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, and end GOP control of the House this November.

Thanks for being a part of this.

–Elizabeth
