SIGN: He got away with rape thanks to this judge

Judge McClusky let the man who raped a teenager go with just a slap on the wrist. This is not justice. He must be recalled.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

A New York judge just let a child rapist off with no jail time and—unbelievably—justified it by saying he "only" raped one girl. "Only" one—these are the words of Judge James McClusky.1

Last week, Judge McClusky sentenced Shane Piche, a school bus driver, to probation and $365 in fines for raping a 14-year-old child he met on his bus route.

Add your voice and demand Judge McClusky be removed from the bench.

Judge McClusky cannot be trusted to protect survivors of sexual assault, and he needs to be removed from the bench. This case is getting a ton of attention on social media and in the news, and calls are coming from across the country for the commission on judicial conduct to remove McClusky from his position permanently.

Tell the New York Commission of Judicial Conduct: "Judge James McClusky just let a child rapist off with a slap on the wrist. Remove him from his position immediately for his blatant disregard for survivors of sexual assault."

According to court records, Piche lured her and other minors to his house, gave them alcohol — and then raped her. It's horrifying that this even needs to be said, but one child raped is too many.

Piche was the bus driver responsible for getting his victim to school. He was entrusted with children and instead used his position to rape a young girl. But Judge McClusky didn't even put Piche on the level 2 sex offender registry, because there were not multiple victims.2

The victim's mother has stated, "I wish Shane Piche would have received time in jail for the harm he caused to my child. He took something from my daughter she will never get back and has caused her to struggle with depression and anxiety."3

One victim is one too many, and Judge McClusky had a responsibility to hold Piche accountable. Judge McClusky is failing as a justice, and he should be removed from his position immediately.

Thank you.

Chilling news

In this critical moment, MoveOn needs your help to beef up our cybersecurity, to fund the fight for answers through Congress and, if appropriate, the courts, and to double down on our work to stand up to Trump.

Dear MoveOn member,

An explosive investigative report this morning revealed that Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security spied on MoveOn and our partners at the height of the family separation crisis, when we were organizing 750 peaceful protests across the country.1

Throughout American history, government monitoring, harassment, and surveillance has been used to stoke fear, attack free speech, and cripple important movements for social justice and civil rights.

We will not be silenced or intimidated. And we will not stand idly by while our government inappropriately surveils Americans exercising their First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and assembly—in this case speaking out against Trump's abhorrent policy of forcibly taking migrant children from their families and putting them in cages.

In this critical moment, MoveOn needs your help to beef up our cybersecurity, to fund the fight for answers through Congress and, if appropriate, the courts, and to double down on our work to stand up to Trump.

Will you rush an emergency contribution of $3 right now to help us fight back? Click here now.

Here's what we know happened so far: Looking Glass, a for-profit government contractor whose CEO was a donor to the Trump campaign, collected information on about 600 of the protests that MoveOn organized with the broader Families Belong Together coalition and other partners on June 30 of last year.2

That included monitoring the social media and online information about the events.3 They then passed along this information to Trump's Department of Homeland Security.4

Once the government received the information, the Trump administration deemed it important enough to share with many offices within the department, including ICE, Homeland Security Investigations, and so-called "fusion centers."5 Those "centers" are special law enforcement offices created after 9/11 that combine local police with federal officers to monitor terrorist activity, and they have long been accused of violating civil liberties.6

You read that right: DHS sent info about our peaceful protests to law enforcement groups focused on "terrorism."

Luckily, MoveOn's digital security protocols are best in class, and none of the private information of MoveOn members was hacked during this effort. But this operation was still a major violation of the First Amendment rights of hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members and our allies, and we must get to the bottom of exactly what happened and why Trump's government is continuing to monitor and harass activists opposed to his policies.

We cannot let them get away with this. Eddie, please click here to rush a contribution of $3 to our efforts to fight back against this blatant attack on lawful and peaceful dissent.

We already knew that the Trump administration was putting activists, lawyers, and journalists fighting the family separation crisis onto a mysterious "watch list."

Now, we're finding out that the administration was also—without any legitimate law enforcement reason—monitoring the Families Belong Together protests last summer, where hundreds of thousands of people from all backgrounds gathered to express their outrage at the administration's family separation and detention policies.

How is it that the Department of Homeland Security is spending its limited resources on disseminating information related to our peaceful protests, including at a time when white nationalist violence is on the rise? We must come together in this dangerous time to stand up to Trump's authoritarianism and protect our civil liberties and democracy.

Stand with us, Eddie. Click here to chip in $3 now.

Thanks for all you do.

This could defeat Trump

During last year's election, MoveOn unleashed a secret weapon that helped push Democrats up and down the ballot over the top.

Dear MoveOn member,

During last year's elections, MoveOn unleashed a secret weapon that helped push Democrats up and down the ballot to victory.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez used it. And it was used to help elect other progressive champs, including Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Katie Porter, and Lauren Underwood.

This groundbreaking technology is called Spoke, and it's an open-source tool invented by MoveOn that allows grassroots organizers to send thousands of text messages to get out the vote, generate phone calls, and recruit people to attend rallies. There are other tools like it, but they have huge fees and are too expensive for insurgent campaigns and first-time candidates. That makes Spoke critical for the progressive movement.

And, in addition to using Spoke to win elections, we use it internally to mobilize MoveOn members. Our dedicated corps of volunteers that we call the Text Team sends millions of texts every month—to flood Congress with calls, drive turnout to events like our Families Belong Together and Nobody Is Above the Law rallies, and help breaking news spread quickly.

Now, we need your help to make Spoke an even more powerful tool and make a major investment in our Text Team, so we can beat Donald Trump in 2020. Will you chip in $5 a month to help double the impact of the secret weapon that helped power the 2018 wave election?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly to help power MoveOn's open-source texting tool, Spoke, so we can beat Trump and help elect more progressive champs in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Spoke is a game-changer because it allows texts to reach people directly, in a way that email hasn't since the early 2000s. And it's especially useful in mobilizing young people and communities of color.

An email might sit in an inbox waiting to be read for hours or even days. A lot of emails never get read at all (thank you for reading this one!). But research shows that 90% of text messages are read within five minutes. That's a crucial difference when you're trying to mobilize rapid-response grassroots action.

Spoke isn't about just blasting out millions of bulk text messages. Spoke is about one-on-one conversations between real people.

MoveOn members have used this incredible tool not only to win elections but to help turn out huge crowds and flood Capitol Hill with phone calls to stop Trumpcare and end Trump's brutal family separation policy.

For some of our key campaign moments, texting through Spoke generated more actions by MoveOn members than email, Facebook, and Twitter combined.

But that's not all. MoveOn has built Spoke to be an open-source tool so that other progressive organizations and campaigns may use it, too. It's been used for everything from union recruitment of service employees, to winning marriage equality in Australia, to congressional elections and school board races.

In 2020, we aim to double the impact of our texting program compared to 2018. Your monthly donation will allow us to help even more campaigns, grassroots organizations, and MoveOn members use our open-source tool, Spoke. Will you chip in $5 a month to help make sure we have the resources to fund the programmers, organizers, and technology we'll need to pull it all off?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Maybe you're thinking that Trump is so unpopular and such a bad president that he'll be easy to beat in 2020. If so, think again.

Trump has proven time and time again to be an expert at exploiting people's fears and resentments to get votes. He's a master media manipulator and still has a big advantage in the Electoral College.

Then there's the impact of Republican Super PACs, voter suppression, Fox News, the Koch brothers, and the vicious smears that the eventual Democratic nominee will undoubtedly face. And the Trump team is already funneling a huge amount of money into social media and other cutting-edge tools—the kind of innovations that helped them win key states in 2016.

We need to be ready for a hard-fought election that goes down to the wire. Spoke made the difference in past elections and might again in 2020.

Large-scale tests by top election experts have found that you can increase turnout by .65% with get-out-the-vote text messages—which could mean a million votes nationwide, easily enough to decide a close presidential election.1

That's why we're putting such a big priority on scaling up this powerful weapon for 2020. It literally could be the difference between four more years of Trump or a Democratic president fueled by a progressive, people-powered movement. Will you chip in $5 a month to help make it happen?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar—our first endorsements of 2020

Check out this video about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar, MoveOn's first endorsements for 2020.

Dear MoveOn member,

We are thrilled to announce that MoveOn members have made our first endorsements for the 2020 election cycle: Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, along with our first endorsement of the 2020 cycle, Representative. Ilhan Omar.

MoveOn's first 4 endorsements of 2020

In 2019, four freshman congresswomen—all of whom won primaries in 2018 before being elected to Congress—have energized grassroots activists around the country by speaking truth to power and modeling true leadership on progressive, visionary policies.

Faced with constant attacks from Trump and the GOP, and at times silence and even derision from a number of their own Democratic colleagues, these four members of Congress have persisted in moving a progressive agenda forward and energizing voters everywhere.

All four just won overwhelming endorsements from MoveOn members in their districts, starting with Rep. Omar this past Wednesday. Their powerful style of leadership—fearless and fiercely progressive—is making a huge impact in Congress, and our early endorsement sends a strong message to Democrats: When you stand up for progressive values and truly organize to move an agenda forward, MoveOn members stand with you.

In this historic election cycle, MoveOn is committed to making sure that a progressive, inspiring, and competitive Democratic nominee who is accountable to the broader movement emerges from the presidential primaries to defeat Donald Trump.

We also recognize that electing a progressive president is not enough to build a country where everyone can thrive. That is why MoveOn plans on endorsing and electing progressive Democrats to the Senate and House to help shift the balance of power so that a progressive agenda can be enacted in 2021, while showing candidates at all levels that running on strong progressive policies is good politics.

Members of Congress such as Reps. Ocasio-Cortez, Tlaib, Pressley, and Omar are showing the exact kind of leadership that is needed for Democrats to win up and down the ticket.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has championed and introduced the Green New Deal, reshaping the debate over climate change. Rep. Tlaib has emerged as a leader in calling for the impeachment of Donald Trump over his outrageous abuses of power. Rep. Pressley introduced a bill to provide back pay for the nearly 1 million federal workers who had no protections following Trump's government shutdown. And Rep. Omar has been a force in calling for Congress to overturn Trump's racist Muslim Ban.

Here are just a few of the quotes from fellow MoveOn members represented by these powerful leaders:
"With the Green New Deal, Ocasio-Cortez is shifting the discussion on what needs to be addressed and what is achievable if we had the political will. She is also the thing that scares Republicans most." —Keith from Astoria, NY

"[Rep. Pressley] is an outspoken woman of color who is a strong voice for the voiceless, responds to her constituents, and is a strong advocate for the common good, justice, and peace." —Linda from Somerville, MA

"Rashida [Tlaib] is a powerful, outspoken advocate 'for the People' of her district. She brings a fresh perspective to the halls of Congress and represents a progressive viewpoint held by many of her constituents." —Theresa from Detroit, MI

"[Rep. Omar] is courageous and speaks her truth. Her identity as a woman of color, a refugee, and an immigrant is essential to bring understanding and empathy to all the multiple kinds of people who make up the citizenry of the United States. Her values reflect her constituency. I am fortunate to live in her district." —Lauren from Minneapolis

We are proud to make Reps. Omar, Ocasio-Cortez, Pressley, and Tlaib our first four endorsements for 2020, and we look forward to more candidates like them who are passionate, unapologetic, visionary fighters who will represent America, stand up for their constituents, and challenge power in the halls of Congress.

Thanks for all you do.

Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham support impeachment

Thanks to the right-wing media, Trump's base would never know that McConnell—and many other current Republican members of Congress—have made such compelling arguments for impeachment.

Dear MoveOn member,

"I am completely and utterly perplexed by those who argue that perjury and obstruction of justice are not high crimes and misdemeanors."1

That's what Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had to say about the need to impeach Bill Clinton back in 1999.

I don't know about you, Eddie, but I am completely and utterly perplexed by those who argue that Donald Trump has not done the exact same things.

But thanks to the right-wing media, Trump's base would never know that McConnell—and many other current Republican members of Congress—have made such compelling arguments for impeachment.

Will you chip in $3 to help us produce an ad featuring pro-impeachment Republicans and play it on Fox News? Who knows ... maybe Donald Trump will see it too!

Back in 1999, McConnell was far from alone in his conviction that obstructing justice was an impeachable offense.

Senator Lindsey Graham said, "We're a nation of laws, and that's what this case has always been about to me … He turned the judicial system upside down, every way but loose. He sent his friends to lie for him. He lied for himself."2

Senator James Inhofe of Oklahoma pointed out that, "Isn't it true that [the federal law on witness tampering] criminalizes anyone who corruptly persuades or engages in misleading conduct with the intent to influence the testimony of any person in an official proceeding?"3

Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina said, "The United State is a nation of laws, not men. And I do not believe we can ignore the facts or disregard the Constitution so that the president can be placed above the law."4

We certainly agree with these senators—and the dozens more current Republican members of the House and Senate—who in the past have forcefully and clearly stated that obstruction of justice is an impeachable offense.

The Mueller report clearly shows that Trump has done just that—over and over and over again. But Trump's base is not hearing these arguments from the talking heads on Fox News.

Help us make sure they do. Click here to chip in $3 to help us reach our goal of raising $150,000 so we can finish production and play our commercial filled with Republicans calling for impeachment on a Fox News program.

The Mueller report clearly stated that it was not the job of the investigators to come to a conclusion about the consequences for the 11 instances of obstruction of justice that they documented Trump committed.5 That is, they said, the job of Congress.

And it must be done through impeachment proceedings.

But still, far too many members of Congress are turning their backs on their constitutional duty, willing to let Trump prove once and for all that he is above the law.

We cannot let this happen. We need to change the conversation about impeachment and show just how hypocritical Republicans in Congress are being in their refusal to even consider impeachment proceedings against Trump, when they were more than ready to remove Bill Clinton for obstructing justice.

Fox News hosts will NEVER call for Trump's impeachment, and if Republicans know that their voters are forming their opinions from Fox's talking points, they will never waver in their commitment to Trump. But if we can break through the blockade on Fox and show their viewers exactly what their Republican heroes have said about impeachment, we can shift the narrative and put a crack between Trump and his base.

Producing a television ad and running it on Fox is expensive. But it's worth it. We need to raise $150,000 to create the ad and buy the space to play it. Can you chip in $3 right now to help out?

Just imagine what Donald Trump will think when he sees it …

Thanks for all you do.

We wanted to fight back, but we didn’t know how to start.

Use MoveOn's free digital tools to launch a petition and make your voice heard.

Dear Eddie,

I'm writing to you today to ask you to start a MoveOn petition. Starting a petition takes only five minutes, and the result can change lives. I know that for a fact, because a MoveOn petition helped to save my family.

Last summer, ICE served my mom an order of deportation. She'd been in this country for nearly 20 years, worked at McDonald's, paid her taxes, and always followed the rules set forth by INS and ICE. But none of that mattered to them when they told us she had to board a one-way flight to Bangladesh.

My parents and I were so upset—and so afraid. We wanted to fight back, but we didn't know how to start. I was only 17. How could we take on something like ICE?

The answer was a MoveOn petition started by a community organization that wanted to help us!

More than 42,000 people signed the petition to stop my mom's deportation. Local organizations got involved, and then the media took notice. Just days before she was set to be deported, ICE backed down and said my mom could stay. I will never forget that moment, standing in front of news cameras, my father in tears, thanking the MoveOn members who signed the petition to keep our family together.

Eddie, I've seen firsthand the difference a MoveOn petition can make. So today, I'm writing this letter to you because I want you to know how good it feels to make a change in your community (or even your country!). My family is proof that when you raise your voice and organize, you can take on any opponent, even ICE. MoveOn has wonderful staff and amazing resources to help your petition succeed—but it all starts with you deciding you're ready to take that first step.

Eddie, take that first step right now: In just five minutes, you can start your very own MoveOn petition to make a change and make a difference in your community, your state, or our country.

Thank you for all you've done for my family—and for all you do.

Can we send you a free "I Stand With Ilhan" sticker?

The results are in: With 77% of votes cast in favor, MoveOn members in Minnesota's 5th District have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Ilhan Omar for re-election to Congress!

Dear MoveOn member,

The results are in: With 77% of votes cast in favor, MoveOn members in Minnesota's 5th District have voted overwhelmingly to endorse Ilhan Omar for re-election to Congress!

Eddie, Representative Ilhan Omar's endorsement for re-election marks MoveOn's very first endorsement for the 2020 elections.

Rep. Omar is a uniquely powerful, compelling member of Congress. She ran on a platform of ending fossil fuel subsidies and joined in on the Green New Deal fight once in office. She ran on ending the horrific Muslim Ban, which is separating families—and she's now cosponsoring the #NoBanAct, which would make sure this never happens again. And despite racist and anti-Muslim attacks to silence the first Black, Muslim congresswoman in the United States—and blatant attempts to incite violence against her and Muslim communities—Rep. Omar has continued to speak out for bold, progressive policies in order to fight for a society where all of us, not just the rich and powerful, can thrive.

Want to show that you stand with Rep. Omar and an inclusive, equitable, transformative vision of America—and to send a message against the rise of anti-Muslim bigotry, rhetoric, and policies in the U.S. and around the globe? Click here or on the image below to get your FREE "I Stand With Ilhan" sticker.

Here's what some of the more than 16,000 fellow MoveOn members in Minnesota's 5th District had to say about why they support Rep. Omar for re-election:

"Rep. Omar represents the future of America. An America that is inclusive regardless of race, religion, gender, or economic status. She is powerful and incredibly intelligent. Her personal history and life inform a responsible and open view of the future of our country. She IS America." – Erin from Minneapolis

"Ilhan is not afraid to say things that need to be said. She's got the gumption to stand behind what is right, instead of what is politically correct or self-serving. She is exactly what we need in a representative. She has courage that I haven't seen in a while." – Micah from Minneapolis

"Ilhan Omar is one of the few representatives that is focused on economic justice. She has also been on the receiving end of unfair attacks from right-wingers and centrists alike, and she needs as much support as she can get from progressives to continue fighting for us." – Kenneth from Minneapolis

"She is courageous and speaks her truth. Her identity as a woman of color, a refugee, and an immigrant is essential to bring understanding and empathy to all the multiple kinds of people who make up the citizenry of the United States. Her values reflect her constituency. I am fortunate to live in her district." – Lauren from Minneapolis

Celebrate this first endorsement of the 2020 elections and claim your FREE "I Stand With Ilhan" sticker. After you order yours, forward this email to friends and family who you think would want their own free sticker.

We don't usually send out announcements like these outside of the district where constituent MoveOn members voted to make the endorsement. But in this case, given the way that Rep. Omar's leadership is playing out in a national context, and given the intensity of national attacks aimed at her, we wanted to share out our first 2020 endorsement with all MoveOn members. During an era when moral clarity is of the utmost importance, we want to make it clear that Rep. Omar is definitely an important voice in Washington, D.C.—and in the country.

She is a progressive champion on democracy reforms, challenging the military-industrial complex, taking on white supremacy, and standing for the rights of immigrants, asylum-seekers, and refugees. She herself is a refugee, a mother, and the first-ever Black, Muslim woman to serve in the House.

The positive and bold progressive vision for our country that Congresswoman Ilhan Omar fights for every day is one that should be embraced by candidates everywhere—especially heading into 2020. Her fearlessness in advocating progressive policies is galvanizing the public in her district and throughout the country.

MoveOn is proud to "Stand With Ilhan" as our first endorsement of the 2020 election cycle.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign this petition re: William Barr resignation

It is time for the American people and this Congress to force this attorney general to resign. Now.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Before anyone could see the Mueller report, William Barr chose to tell the American public that the report effectively exonerated the president. From there, he released a redacted report that shares a different story about Trump's complicity in attempting to impede the Trump-Russia investigation. He has used his position to protect the president, rather than seek justice. He needs to resign.

Sign this petition telling William Barr that he needs to resign immediately.

After a clearly biased and unjust summary of the Mueller report and an unprecedented press conference attempting to mislead the American people, this substandard attorney general needs to resign immediately.

The U.S. attorney general is supposed to protect the Constitution and the American people. He should not be working solely to protect a corrupt president, especially one that has pushed forward an aggressively anti-immigrant, xenophobic, and racist agenda in addition to possibly working to undermine an investigation into his own administration.

FW: Sign the petition re: climate change

Earth Day is today, and we are writing on behalf of Youth Climate Strike because we need your signature on a brand-new petition.

Eddie– Kirsten Gillibrand, Julián Castro, Jay Inslee, and Mike Gravel say they support a 2020 candidates' debate on solutions to environmental problems, including climate change—but Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, and others have remained silent on this idea so far.

Young people with Youth Climate Strike are leading this campaign, and it's important that we take a minute to sign the petition to support them. See their original email below, and add your name to join more than 30,000 people who have already signed on.

Happy Earth Day.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Earth Day is just one week away, and we are writing on behalf of Youth Climate Strike because we need your signature on a brand-new petition.

One month ago, we helped to organize student climate strikes around the United States. It was so inspiring to see all of the positive responses and the media traction that we received for our kickoff strike on March 15, 2019, and therefore we are branching out and announcing our new campaign today to call upon the 2020 presidential candidates and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) to commit to a debate or forum entirely around environmental issues.

Climate change is too urgent and important to continue to ignore, and because adults have been pushing it off for decades, we're stepping up and calling upon the adults running for the presidency in 2020 to take it seriously.

Sign our petition to support a #ClimateDebate.

With the magnitude of the oncoming climate crisis, it's no longer sufficient to have a single token environmental question that 2020 candidates get to brush off with a soundbite. We need the 2020 candidates and DNC to commit to an entire debate on environmental policies.

You may have heard of the Youth Climate Strike on NPR or in The New York Times. Our first strike on March 15, 2019 was part of a massive global day of action where young people in 120+ countries came together to demand action on climate change. As we approach the 2020 election, we recognize that time is running out to curb the worst effects of climate change, and therefore we believe it is the best time to ask the presidential candidates some tough but important questions about climate change and environmental policy. Furthermore, we will continue to strike to demand action from incumbent politicians and those that are running in 2019 and 2020, with our next countrywide strike on May 3, 2019.

Sign our petition calling on the DNC and 2020 candidates to commit to a debate centered on climate and environmental issues.

Let's ensure environmental issues—climate change, access to clean water, environmental racism, and everything in between—that disproportionately impact people of color and working-class folks are given the serious attention they deserve.

Let's be sure we hear how candidates plan to hold companies accountable for polluting our water and air, and let's ask them what they think about opening up federal land to fracking, drilling, and trophy hunting.

Let's have an open mind as they discuss the ways we can shift to renewable energy while stressing equity and a just transition for frontline communities, specifically communities of color, low-income communities, and communities most reliant on fossil fuels.

The United Nations estimates that 62 million people worldwide were affected by extreme weather fueled by climate change. This is not ok.

Sign our petition telling the DNC and 2020 candidates that you want to see a debate or forum entirely around environmental issues.

Thank you for your support.

This cop murdered my 12-year-old son

Stop defending the officer who killed Tamir Rice, and don't let him back on the police force. Putting Timothy Loehmann back on the streets with a badge and gun would threaten public safety, and send the dangerous message that police officers are above accountability for their actions.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Cleveland's police union president, Jeff Follmer, is assisting Timothy Loehmann—the officer who murdered my 12-year-old son, Tamir Rice—in getting his job back as a Cleveland police officer. I won't let it happen without a fight, and I'm asking you to join me.

The Cleveland Police Department fired Timothy Loehmann after he murdered Tamir and an investigation showed that he lied on his job application—hiding the fact that another police department had determined he was emotionally unfit and incapable of being a police officer.

Cleveland's police union has been fighting to get Loehmann his job back ever since. Police unions often get corrupt and dangerous officers back in their jobs after the public's attention has moved on. We can stop that from happening—and make it less likely in the future—by publicly confronting the Cleveland Police Patrolmen's Association. Will you join me?

Join me in telling Cleveland's police union: Stop defending the officer who murdered my son Tamir and trying to get him back on the police force. I'll use our petition signatures to publicly confront the police union.

Stop defending the officer who killed Tamir Rice, and don't let him back on the police force. Putting Timothy Loehmann back on the streets with a badge and gun would threaten public safety and send the dangerous message that police officers are above accountability for their actions.

Cleveland police officer Timothy Loehmann shot Tamir less than one second after getting out of his car. He should never have been hired, and he should never have been in a position to take Tamir's life. He's unstable, dishonest, dangerous, and he's already killed unjustly and recklessly. He definitely shouldn't be on the streets with a badge and gun, and ever since he murdered Tamir, I've been fighting to make sure that doesn't happen.

The Cleveland police department's leadership decided Loehmann shouldn't be a police officer. After the police union appealed that decision, a labor arbitrator recently ruled against them—but they're still fighting to get him back on the streets with a badge and gun. Loehmann also recently tried to get another job at a nearby Ohio police department—and he was forced to withdraw his application after I spoke out, along with thousands of people in Ohio and across the country. Now it's time for us to speak out again.

It is outrageous that there's even a chance Loehmann would get his job back. But, as I said, police unions often succeed in reinstating abusive and corrupt officers after the community's attention has moved on. That's what they're trying to do here.

Police unions aren't used to being challenged publicly. If enough of us speak out against what the police union is doing, it will make it less likely they succeed in getting Loehmann his job back. And the police union will know that when they defend corrupt, violent, and dangerous officers, they'll be called out and challenged in a way that damages their reputation and weakens their power—making them think twice about defending the next Timothy Loehmann.

Join us in confronting the Cleveland police union for defending Tamir Rice's killer. Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thank you.

"This is the end of my presidency. I'm f*cked."

Let's be clear: Congress must do its job and immediately begin hearings on Trump's obstruction of justice and hold Trump accountable, including possibly through impeachment.

Dear MoveOn member,

We learned today that when Donald Trump was first told that Robert Mueller had been appointed special counsel, he said, "This is the end of my presidency. I'm f*cked," according to the just-released, heavily redacted Mueller report.1

Why? It's spelled out in the 108 pages it takes Mueller to detail all of the Trump campaign's "links to and contacts with" the Russian government, a hostile foreign government that was trying to undermine our democracy and elect Trump.

For instance, Mueller documented that Donald Trump Jr. had direct electronic communications with Wikileaks and that "by the late summer of 2016, the Trump Campaign was planning a press strategy, a communications campaign, and messaging based on the possible release of Clinton emails by WikiLeaks."2

The Mueller report then details 11 "episodes" where Trump may have obstructed justice, as he sought to hide his campaign's connections with Russia, but noted that it was Congress' job to investigate and determine consequences for these acts.3

Let's be clear: Congress must do its job and immediately begin hearings on Trump's obstruction of justice and hold Trump accountable, including possibly through impeachment.

Trump's team, include attorney general William Barr, have already begun an Orwellian campaign to deceive the public and spread misinformation about what is in the report. But this is not 1984, and we won't fall for it.

MoveOn is ready to pull out all the stops to ensure that Congress investigates Trump's lies and obstruction, but we need your help.

Eddie, can you rush an emergency contribution of $19.84 to help power our efforts to demand that Congress holds Trump accountable?

Yes! I'll chip in $19.84 right now to help hold Trump accountable.

"Even in its incomplete form," House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler said today, "the Mueller report outlines disturbing evidence that President Trump engaged in obstruction of justice."4

That evidence includes repeated and blatant efforts by Trump to get White House Counsel Don McGahn to lie about efforts to fire Robert Mueller, multiple requests made to Jeff Sessions to "un-recuse" himself and stop the investigation outright, messages sent to Michael Flynn's lawyers asking for a "heads-up" about any information relating to Trump in his trial, direct requests from Trump's lawyers that Michael Cohen lie to Congress about Trump's involvement with Russia and Vladamir Putin, and more.

We have always known that the corruption and criminality of the Trump administration were unlike anything we had seen in the modern era, and the Mueller report provides detailed, painstakingly investigated evidence confirming that assertion.

Now, it is up to Congress, beginning with the Democratically controlled House, to do absolutely everything in its power to respond to Mueller's findings, to investigate Trump for obstruction of justice, and to hold him accountable.

There is no time to waste. Click here right now to chip in $19.84 to help MoveOn turn up the pressure on Congress to act IMMEDIATELY.

With your help, here's what we'll do:

  • Flood Congress with calls demanding Democrats begin obstruction hearings and impeachment proceedings. For months, Democrats have said that the Mueller report must be completed before Congress can act. Now that they have the report, they must respond to Mueller's call to action and hold Trump accountable for his lies and obstruction of justice.
  • Support efforts to release the full report to the public via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Let's be clear: What we have seen today is not the full report, and it is clear that William Barr has no plans to release the unredacted version. It is our right to see the report, and we must demand that the government abide by FOIA laws and release the full report to the public.
  • Highlight the most important segments of the report in videos, digital ads, and other visually striking tactics. The report is over 400 pages long and contains sentence after sentence of shocking information. MoveOn's social media team and Video Lab are already hard at work pulling out information and creating easily digestible videos and ads to ensure that the public can understand what we learned today.

This is a massive undertaking and will require substantial funding to do well and do quickly. Please, click here now to chip in $19.84 to help out.

Trump wants us to think that the release of the report today is the end of this story. That is why he chose William Barr to be his attorney general, why Barr released a misleading summary of the report and held a press conference once again mischaracterizing the report before its release, and why Trump's allies are doing everything they can today to control the narrative about the content of the report.

But we won't give in.

This story is far from over, and it will only be through real people-power that we ensure that Donald Trump and his cronies are held responsible for their corrupt, criminal actions.

Thanks for all you do.

Can MoveOn send you a free sticker?

Trump just vetoed a historic bipartisan resolution that would have ended U.S. involvement in an illegal and immoral war in Yemen.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I don't send you emails often—and right now I'm in the middle of shooting a new television project that has constrained my other commitments—but this moment is too important.

Donald Trump just vetoed a historic bipartisan resolution that would have ended U.S. involvement in the illegal and immoral war in Yemen. Like fellow MoveOn members and allies, I have been horrified at what is happening in Yemen and I have worked to add my voice toward ending the conflict.

MoveOn has just printed a big batch of "Endless Wars" stickers to help MoveOn members proclaim our commitment to ending wars, pursuing peace and diplomacy, and ensuring that reshaping our foreign policy is part of the 2020 political debate. And they're giving them away for free while supplies last.

Click here or on the image below to get your free "Endless Wars" sticker now.

Two weeks ago, Congress took the historic bipartisan step of reasserting its constitutional war powers to end U.S. participation in the illegal, inhumane, Saudi-led war in Yemen—a war that has killed 85,000 children and is pushing millions to the brink of starvation.

Trump's veto means that—for the time being—we'll keep supporting Saudi Arabia's brutal war, and the United States will be complicit in more deaths and destruction. Meanwhile, Trump is using this time to tout the false claim that he is anti-war, even as more than 140 Yemeni children die every day due to war-related causes.

Ending wars is seemingly never as easy as starting them—but it's important we build on this Congressional momentum right now and ensure that throughout the 2020 elections, ending endless wars, including this immoral disaster in Yemen, is a central part of the political discussion for progressive candidates. Because this cruel act shows that Trump's claim to being anti-war is completely false, it's time for progressive candidates to commit to ending our endless wars and refusing to give up this important ground to Donald Trump heading into the 2020 election.

Click here to get your free "Endless Wars" sticker to proclaim your commitment to ending wars, pursuing peace and diplomacy, and ensuring that reshaping our foreign policy is part of the 2020 political debate.

Eddie, Trump's veto is not only heartless, but dangerous: He is rejecting the will of Congress by denying that we are even at war in Yemen.

But we know that even with such a setback, we must continue the campaign to reset the country's moral compass and challenge the status quo of fighting endless wars and to stand alongside those suffering in Yemen. Thanks to the determined efforts of MoveOn members and allies—even when it seemed impossible—both the House and Senate passed a bill to end an unauthorized war for the first time in history. And it happened with the support of every Democrat in Congress. In the wake of Trump's veto, we must continue pushing Congress to build on this achievement and pursue next steps, like stopping weapons sales to the Saudi regime.

We need to show political candidates and the media that ending endless wars by repealing the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force and ending our involvement in Yemen is a priority for resetting our moral compass on foreign policy—and show our friends and neighbors who want to pursue peace and diplomacy that they aren't alone.

Click here for a free sticker from MoveOn—for your bumper, bag, computer, mailbox, or wherever else you want to send a clear message from.

I know I'll be waiting for mine.

Thanks for all your work on ending this conflict and continuing to carry forward.

FW: Trump is killing us on Facebook

Three weeks ago, Robert Mueller delivered his report to Attorney General William Barr. And while we haven't seen the full report—and we must see the full report—let's be clear about one thing: Robert Mueller is not going to save us. He was NEVER going to save us.

Hi Eddie—I just wanted to make sure you saw my message from the other day.

Dear MoveOn member,

Three weeks ago, Robert Mueller delivered his report to Attorney General William Barr. And while we haven't seen the full report—and we must see the full report—let's be clear about one thing:

Robert Mueller is not going to save us. He was NEVER going to save us. His team's work was essential, but it was never sufficient on its own. Only everyday Americans like you and me will be able to save America from the scourge of Donald Trump and his abomination of a presidency.

But right now, we're facing a serious problem: MoveOn, other progressive groups, and Democratic candidates are all being massively outspent on social media by the Trump campaign.1 In 2016, the Trump campaign dominated Facebook and other social media, and if we keep getting outspent now, what happened in the 2016 election could happen again.2

MoveOn is hard at work developing new tools to combat Trump's social media war and effectively engage voters in the 2020 election, but in order to fully fund these projects all the way through November 2020, they need a sustained flow of support.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help build MoveOn's 2020 social media war chest and beat Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly to help build MoveOn's social media war chest, so we can defeat Trump in 2020.

Can't chip in monthly? Click here, because MoveOn still needs your help.

After 2016, MoveOn and other progressive election experts took a hard look at how Trump won, and one of the key findings was that our side simply got whipped on social media.3 The Trump campaign spent more on social media and worked hand in hand with Facebook's internal marketing gurus to figure out how to push their message out most effectively.4

We can't let that happen again.

The internet has become the modern-day town square. More and more people—especially young people—get their news not from TV or newspapers, but from Facebook and Twitter.

Twenty years ago, TV ads were king. Today, you have to be getting your message out online and on social media as well, in order to reach critical swing voters who will determine the outcome of the election.

Over the past two and a half years, MoveOn has been researching the most effective strategies to fight back and win. They beta-tested some of their best innovations in the 2018 blue wave midterm, and next year, they will have to go even bigger.

Some of the left-of-center pundits that I see on TV seemed to think that Mueller was a white knight who would ride in with flaming sword and strike down the Trump administration in a flash of glory. Others apparently expected that impeachment would begin the day after the Mueller report was delivered.

But I never thought that, and neither did MoveOn. While we must understand the extent of Trump's corruption and his administration's criminality—in relation to Russia's meddling in our elections and across a host of other areas—in the end, it's political force built by grassroots pressure that will end this administration—whether through actions in Congress or, more likely, action at the ballot box. No matter what the full report reveals if and when it is released, it will be up to everyday Americans like you and me to save America. And this will be one of the biggest, most difficult fights we've ever faced.

We knew from the beginning that Trump would be stopped only by hard work and grassroots organizing, precinct by precinct, district by district, state by state.

No organization in America has a better track record of success in developing cutting-edge strategies to get out the vote and win elections than MoveOn.

We will need to call out Trump's failed policies, his broken promises, and how the tens of millions of working Americans who voted for Trump have been betrayed by his giveaways to corporations and the superrich. And MoveOn needs to have the consistent resources all the way through November 2020 to make sure we don't get whipped again on social media.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help build MoveOn's 2020 social media war chest and beat Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in to help build MoveOn's social media war chest, so we can defeat Trump in 2020.

No, I'm sorry, I can't become a monthly donor right now.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich
