Message in a (Pill) Bottle

Dawn has been collecting messages of support in pill bottles on her journey. We want to make sure she has a mountain of them when she gets to Philadelphia. Can you submit your own message now?

Dear MoveOn member,

I wish you could see this.

I'm a fellow MoveOn member who has been traveling with Dawn Smith as she journeys across America to confront CIGNA over their refusals to treat her brain tumor.

More and more folks are hearing about Dawn's battle, and all along the way, in churches and living rooms and coffee shops, they've been coming out to support Dawn. They encourage her. They tell her she's fighting for them, too. And then—always—they tell their own stories.

In Asheville, North Carolina, one mother told us of losing her son because he couldn't get the treatment he needed without insurance. What can you say to that? Many of us were on the verge of tears. And then Dawn, with her amazing, quiet strength, told her, "Because we have to go through what we do, it makes us stronger, more powerful than any CEO."

And she's right. With each city we visit, I can feel the power build. Voices that were once isolated are speaking together. And with every mile we drive, change draws closer.

Early in our journey, people started giving Dawn scraps of paper with their own comments and stories to carry with her—some of them in pill bottles. So Dawn started asking folks at each stop to give her their own "message in a bottle" that she would carry with her to her confrontation with CIGNA—a tangible sign of support from the hundreds of people she's met.

We arrive at CIGNA's headquarters on Thursday, and Dawn wants the power of all of us standing with her. She's asking all of us to send our own message in a pill bottle, so she'll arrive with a mountain of bottles representing the hundreds of thousands of people who stand with her.

MoveOn has set up a system to print out your message, put it in a pill bottle, and deliver it to Dawn. Will you submit your own "message in a bottle" for Dawn to carry with her to Philadelphia?

If Dawn arrives with thousands of messages of support, I know that CIGNA will finally realize that they can't just sweep her problems under the rug. I can't wait to see their reaction to the giant pile of pill bottles.

Thanks for all you do.
