It doesn’t matter what happens from here. Bernie Sanders has already succeeded.
At the start, Bernie was labeled a "fringe candidate"—a 74-year-old, self-described democratic socialist, who stood zero chance against the Democratic political establishment, the mainstream media, and the moneyed interests.
Then Bernie won 22 states.
And in almost every state—even in those he lost—Bernie won vast majorities of voters under 30, including young women and Latinos. And most voters under 45. His campaign has helped shape the next generation.
Bernie's also brought a bold, progressive agenda into the mainstream—from a $15 minimum wage, to busting up the biggest Wall Street banks, to free tuition at public universities.
But we need to act fast to cement Bernie's agenda into the Democratic Party platform. Public hearings have already begun on the platform, and it will be drafted over the next two weeks, so the clock is ticking.
That's why I want to ask you to chip in $2.70 right now to MoveOn, the largest organization to endorse Bernie, so they have the resources to fight to make Bernie's agenda a core part of the Democratic platform. They have a great plan (read on!), but they need to raise $270,000 to ramp up their campaign in time. Can you help out?
Bernie has accomplished so much without Super PACs or big money from corporations, Wall Street, and billionaires. He did it with small contributions (averaging $27) from millions of us. He's proven that a national campaign can be funded by the people, not the special interests.
And he’s inspired millions of us to get involved in politics and to fight the most important and basic of all fights, the fight on which all else depends—the fight to reclaim our economy and democracy from the moneyed interests.
Bernie's courage in taking on the political establishment has emboldened millions of us to stand up and demand that our voices be heard.
With the primary wrapping up, we need to work hard, right now, to get Bernie's agenda into the Democratic Party platform—which sets the party's agenda for the next four years. MoveOn can have a big impact—with your help.
MoveOn's plan is to:
- Collect and submit hundreds of thousands of petition signatures to the Platform Drafting Committee on the issues that Bernie has been championing: a $15 minimum wage, banning fracking, free tuition for public universities, expanding Social Security, and more. MoveOn will deliver the signatures in person.
- Ask MoveOn’s millions of members to send testimony and personal stories making the case for Bernie's agenda. MoveOn will compile all of the comments, formally submit them to the Platform Drafting Committee, and elevate the most compelling stories through a high-impact social media campaign.
- Work with progressive champions on the committee on a shared strategy to maximize our leverage. We'll work behind the scenes, and build public support for amendments at key moments to achieve the best possible results.
