Call now to say: No war with Iran

Dear MoveOn member,

The diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran is in trouble—and if we don't act fast, our country is at risk of putting us on a path to war with Iran.

This agreement between Iran, the United States, Russia, China, and the European Union has been in place for almost two years; it ensures that Iran is not building nuclear weapons, and, in return compels these nations to remove some sanctions against Iran.

All signs are that Iran is fully complying with the terms of the agreement.1 Every other nation in the deal believes that Iran has upheld its side of the agreement and even our top military leaders including General Joseph Dunford, the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, agree.2

But in the next few days, Donald Trump is expected to unilaterally decertify the deal, moving the U.S. away from diplomacy and, should Congress follow it up with new sanctions, risking a possible war with Iran.3 Once Trump does this, we only have 60 days to stop the Senate from fast-tracking sanctions that would cause this diplomatic deal to collapse.

Will you call your senators right now and tell them to support diplomacy and stand against any new sanctions on Iran? We need senators to speak out before Trump takes action—and need all of the Senate to know that we want diplomacy, not war. Here is where to call:

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542
  • Sen. Gillibrand - (202) 224-4451

You can say: "The Iran nuclear deal is working. Iran is in compliance and all countries are benefiting from the peace that this diplomatic effort has achieved. Don't bring America closer to war by voting for new sanctions on Iran."

Then click here and tell us how your call went.

We know that war with Iran is not the only foreign policy threat right now. Trump continues to amp up his threatening rhetoric with North Korea, his bombing of Syria and escalation of drone strikes has only added to conflict in the Middle East, the Muslim ban 3.0 goes into effect next week, the U.S. still has a sizeable presence in Afghanistan, and more. MoveOn members are preparing now to prevent any unnecessary and devastating wars by creating a massive, rapid-response field network ready to mobilize should a dramatic and clear escalation happen. But we can head off particular potential conflict with Iran right now by preventing Congress from passing sanctions and continuing to uphold our end of the Iran nuclear deal.

Senators need to hear from their constituents right now, so they know that we want them to come out strong in favor of diplomacy and against any new sanctions on Iran that could take us to war. Will you call to tell your senators to support the Iran nuclear deal?

  • Sen. Schumer - (202) 224-6542
  • Sen. Gillibrand - (202) 224-4451

Then click here and tell us how your call went.

Diplomacy is the best way to achieve lasting solutions to security crises. We must refrain from aggressive actions that could endanger the lives of civilians and U.S. troops, undermine the nuclear deal, and put us on the path to war.

Thanks for all you do.
