Dear MoveOn member,
We've just gotten word that Donald Trump is traveling to Dallas to speak at the national NRA convention TOMORROW.1
It's a slap in the face to the grieving families of Parkland, Las Vegas, and the thousands of other victims of everyday gun violence that plagues our country. But considering that the NRA pumped $30 million into Trump's presidential campaign, it's no surprise.2
We're mobilizing grassroots actions in Dallas right now to make sure that our voices are heard while Trump kowtows to his far-right pro-gun campaign funders. Will you chip in $3 to help fight back against the NRA in Dallas this week and at the ballot box in November?
The NRA's "guns everywhere" agenda has created an epidemic of gun violence in America unlike anything seen in the rest of the developed world.
In an average day, almost 100 Americans are killed with guns, including seven children and teens. The gun homicide rate in the U.S. is more than 25 times higher than the average of other wealthy nations. Our gun murder rate is almost 100 times higher than the United Kingdom's.3
We could put in place the laws we know will begin to curb America's epidemic of gun violence. That starts with kicking out Republican politicians are too afraid of the NRA to take action to stop in.
The students from Parkland have sparked a nationwide movement that is gaining momentum every day. In fact, after the shooting in Parkland, even Trump said he would support an expansion of background checks and even indicated that he was open to renewing the assault weapons ban.
Then Trump's big money donors at the NRA called him and he completely abandoned any support for gun safety.4
Before Trump, the last president to speak at an NRA convention was Ronald Reagan in 1983.5 This will be the third year in a row that Trump will speak at the convention.
MoveOn is part of a coalition mobilizing huge grassroots actions in Dallas in protest of the NRA convention, and we're supporting pro-gun-safety candidates on the ballot this November while working to take back the House, so that we can finally put laws that will help reign in gun violence on the agenda.
Will you chip in $3 to help with our campaign to help fight back against the NRA in Dallas this week and at the ballot box in November?
Thank you so much, my friends, for all you do.
–Michael, Kenia, Anna, Nick, and the rest of the team
