Dear MoveOn member,
We will not be led into another endless war by an impeached president with an unhinged Twitter account. Our troops, Iranian Americans, Iranian and Iraqi families, and all of us deserve so much better.
Yesterday, we rose up together to say #NoWarWithIran at more than 350 events in 46 states across the country, just as the House was voting to rein in Donald Trump's war powers. We made it clear: There is an anti-war majority in this country, and we will speak out for peace and justice.
MoveOn was built as an anti-war organization when we fought against the war in Iraq. We were opposed to war in 2003; we stand opposed to war in Iran today; and we will keep up the pressure to stop Trump's war with Iran and end the endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At our rally at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., moments before the House voted to rein in Trump's reckless military action against Iran, Senator Jeff Merkley asked, "Can you come back when the Senate is voting, in about ten days, to make it clear?
We know that Trump is reckless, and no one should be able to be reckless with our military. With tens of thousands of lives on the line, the human costs are just too high, abroad and at home.
Representative Ilhan Omar, herself a refugee, drove home this message at our D.C. event, saying: "If we are only focused on killing the monsters of the world, we forget the children, the elderly, the people with disabilities who are going to be caught in the crossfire... Who, if they survive, become the walking dead like myself."
On Wednesday, on the eve of these inspiring, moving actions, more than 10,000 people joined a #NoWarWithIran strategy call to hear grassroots leaders and elected officials, including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, help explain the impact of Trump's reckless actions and issue a clear call to oppose war with Iran and end U.S. endless wars.
Watch a livestream of our #NoWarWithIran strategy call with Sens. Sanders and Warren, Representatives Barbara Lee and Ro Khanna, and grassroots leaders.
This call, anchored by the expertise of veteran organizer Brittany DeBarros of About Face: Veterans Against the War and Jamal Abdi of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), drove home the point that wars are ultimately fought abroad and domestically, and the overwhelming impact of these wars will be felt by Iranian and visibly Muslim communities.
No community should be left alone to face the threats of unchecked military action, xenophobia, and racist state violence. That's why we will continue to follow the leadership of organizations like NIAC and About Face as we fight against U.S. endless wars and their impact abroad and at home.
We are fighting for nothing less than our collective humanity.
Thanks for all you do.
