Republican voter fraud

The 2018 election will finally come to a close today. Yes, you read that correctly: The 2018 midterm election is still not done. Why? Because of Republican voter fraud.

Dear MoveOn member,

The 2018 election will finally come to a close today. Yes, you read that correctly: The 2018 midterm election is still not done. Why? Because of Republican voter fraud.

Back in 2018, the Republican candidate for the House of Representatives in North Carolina's 9th District was caught working with a GOP campaign consultant to tamper with votes and stuff ballot boxes to win the election. This led the North Carolina State Board of Elections to invalidate the results and call for a new election.1 The new election is finally taking place today, almost a year after constituents originally went to the polls.2

It's no surprise that Republicans went so far as to commit massive voter fraud to win an election. They have spent the last decade perfecting voter suppression tactics across the country, baldly working to prevent minority groups from voting, redrawing congressional districts to favor Republicans, and in the case of Donald Trump, encouraging a foreign power to attack our democracy.

It's clear that the GOP will continue engaging in dirty tricks to ensure Trump's re-election, which means we have to meet those backroom politics with a massive groundswell of grassroots mobilization in 2020.

MoveOn is getting ready to announce the details of our 2020 election campaign—the biggest in our 20-year history—but without support from MoveOn members like you, Eddie, we won't be able to put our plans into action.

Can you chip in $3 right now to make sure MoveOn can fire on all cylinders to stop the GOP voter suppression machine and defeat Trump and his cronies in 2020?

North Carolina's 9th District was hardly the only stolen election in 2018. When Stacey Abrams ran for governor of Georgia against Brian Kemp, who was simultaneously a candidate and Georgia's secretary of state, charged with conducting the election, Kemp shut down polling stations in Black-majority counties, purged tens of thousands of voters from the rolls, and even went so far as stopping a bus carrying seniors to vote in order to keep Abrams from winning.3 After all these dirty tricks, the razor-tight election was called for Kemp.

These are exactly the types of dirty tricks that the GOP will run in states across the country to keep Democrats out of office in 2020—and that's all before taking into account the large-scale disinformation campaign Russia and other bad actors are undertaking.

MoveOn is uniquely positioned to fight back against these tactics:

  • There are MoveOn members in every single congressional district in the country, and just as in 2018, they are ready to turn out in droves to knock on doors, make calls, send texts, and talk with voters in their communities.
  • More than 2 million people follow MoveOn across social media, giving us a huge megaphone to reach and persuade people online.
  • And MoveOn members are ready to open their pocketbooks and chip in for what they believe in. MoveOn members are chipping in earlier to fund our election program, and at greater numbers, than ever before. Each of these small contributions matter: In the 2018 midterms, MoveOn members donated nearly $4 million to progressive candidates, including over $1 million for Black women candidates—and we won back control of the House from the GOP. If our early numbers keep growing, we will be in good shape to win in 2020.

MoveOn will have to wield every single one of our superpowers in order to defeat the GOP's lies, billion-dollar donors, voter suppression, and outright voter fraud.

And that's why we need you, Eddie. Please chip in $3 right now to help us win in 2020.

From defeating white nationalist Congressman Steve King to ditching Mitch McConnell and the GOP senate majority to booting Trump out of Washington, MoveOn is ready to lead in 2020, as long as you're by our side.

Keep an eye out for more announcements about our 2020 plans soon!

Thanks for all you do.
