Important updates about Impeachment Event tonight

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for signing up for this crucial national mobilization.  As you know, there are now over 600 events in all 50 states; in Raleigh alone over 2200 people have signed up.  This evening will be a pivotal moment in the history of this country.

If you can't come and even if you can:  Don't forget that another important way we can show our support for the impeachment and removal of this president is by calling Senators and Representatives.  Phone numbers are the end of this letter.  Call every day.

Some important details about tonight:

This is a peaceful protest.  The Capital police (different from the Raleigh police) are not giving us a permit.  We are not sure exactly why or exactly what this means.  We do know that we must take good care of ourselves and each other to make sure everyone is safe.  Please be respectful to the police; they are supporting our consititutional right to peaceful assembly.  These are not the same people who refused our permit.

If there are counterprotesters, please do not engage with them in any way unless you are completely comfortable with your skills in de-escalation.

Bring a flashlight.  Do not bring weapons or carry signs on sticks.

It most likely will be raining, so do whatever you can to be as comfortable as possible in the rain.  Also be prepared for cooler temperatures in the evening.

We plan to start at 5:30 pm in Bicentennial Plaza (not Bicentennial Mall)  between Jones and East Edenton St, beginning near Jones Street and eventually marching toward and then around the Capital Building before returning to where we started.  There will be a vigil in the plaza for people who are unable to walk this distance.

Parking on the street in Raleigh is free after 5 pm; before that there are meters.  I am going to try again with a map of the area.  There are two parking decks on Edenton St; one of them has an entrance on Jones St.

In case you missed it, here is a link to Rachel Maddow's show last night in which she talked about this national mobilization.

If you take pictures, you can send them to photos@moveon.org.  Videos can be sent there too.  The social media hashtag is #NotAboveTheLaw.

This event is being hosted by Tuesdays with Tillis.  We protest every single week (rain or shine) from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at 310 New Bern Avenue, Raleigh 27601.  Everyone is invited to join us any week and to sign up for our newsletter

This effort has already been so inspiring.  Even if it rains, tonight will be great.  See you soon.
