Sign the petition to support a national stay-at-home order during the coronavirus pandemic.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

I've been a doctor for 35 years, and I want our country to listen to medical health professionals in this crisis.

Staying at home as much as possible works to slow the spread of the deadly coronavirus. We've seen it work in Italy, China, and in areas of the United States. However, millions of people live in over a dozen states that have not mandated a stay-at-home order. This means that stores are still open, people are still traveling, and exposure to the virus increases. Everyone deserves to be protected in this crisis as much as possible: We need a federal stay-at-home order, and every governor must copy it for their state to shut down nonessential businesses.

Everyone must stay at home if they are able. We know this will mitigate the pandemic and save lives! There must be a national stay-at-home order, and governors should copy it for their states to ensure we're doing all we can to protect people.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNN that he doesn't understand why this is not already happening.1

If we don't practice physical distancing, then the exponential growth of positive cases that I saw in my community and across the country will continue. While some tried to trivialize the impact of the coronavirus just weeks ago we are now seeing over 200,000 reported cases in the United States and more than 5,000 deaths—not to mention record job losses and other immense damage to our nation. Experts say we may end up with hundreds of thousands dead in the United States alone.

Sign my petition to call on federal and state officials to put a stay-at-home order in place.

The nightmare scenario is that the number of positive cases could continue to double every day, with skyrocketing death totals. As a doctor, I am seeing hospitals scramble for the equipment needed to treat the thousands already infected. Staying at home slows the rate of infection and will help ease the demand on our already strained health care system.

It is never too late to act. The U.S. has been slow to react to this global pandemic, but expanding the stay-at-home orders nationwide has the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives. We all need to work together because this only works if everyone, in every state, stays at home—because our health is interconnected. Donald Trump has said that physical distancing should continue through the end of April, but this needs to be required.

Actions speak louder than words—declare a national stay-at-home order now!

We know that staying at home works. And when doctors and other health care providers are willing to put their own lives on the line, this doctor thinks that it is more than reasonable to ask EVERY governor and Donald Trump to do the right thing and do it NOW, before more lives are needlessly lost.

Thanks!
