Sign this petition re: temporary detention centers

Hotels have no place in Trump's hateful policies attacking immigrants. Hotel companies should publicly refuse to allow any of their properties to contract with ICE, and deny any assistance in the deportation of people and families.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

The Trump administration has been threatening ICE raids targeting families for the past few weeks. In fact, they targeted a South Asian restaurant in Washington, D.C., last week. This very well could be the beginning of more ICE raids to come and yet another escalation in the hateful policies this administration is using to attack immigrants and separate families.

ICE needs hotel rooms to execute their raids. People are picked up by ICE and then placed in hotel rooms as temporary jails, where they are unable to leave and guarded by federal agents, often for an indefinite amount of time.

Hotel companies and chains need to stand up to this administration and not be a part of these hateful policies.

Sign this petition demanding that nine major hotel chains not participate in any present or future ICE raids.

Hotels have no place in Trump's hateful policies attacking immigrants. Hotel companies should publicly refuse to allow any of their properties to contract with ICE, and deny any assistance in the deportation of people and families.

ICE is still planning to execute raids to deport children and families. Whether it happens in a few days or in two months, using hotel rooms as temporary jails is a crucial part of this plan, because ICE cannot legally hold children in its adult detention facilities. Hotels should put people over profits and publicly refuse to work with ICE to execute Trump's disgusting attack on immigrant families.

We are currently aware of nine hotel chains that run the low-cost properties most likely to be used by ICE, and we are calling on each of them to publicly promise that they won't participate in the planned raids on families and kids. These include Best Western Hotels and Resorts, Choice Hotels (EconoLodge, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn), Drury Hotels, G6 Hospitality (Motel 6), Hilton (Hampton Inn, Embassy Suites), InterContinental Hotels Group (Holiday Inn), Marriott (Courtyard, Fairfield), Red Roof, and Wyndham Hotels (Days Inn, Ramada, Super 8, Howard Johnson, La Quinta). Businesses have a social responsibility to their communities, and they should not be complicit in the caging and detention of anyone.

Make sure to sign this petition before our delivery tomorrow!

Megan Rapinoe

Sign the petition telling the United States Soccer Federation to pay players on the U.S. Women's National Soccer team equal to the men!

Dear MoveOn member,

THEY DID IT!!!! The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) just won their FOURTH World Cup title!! These incredible, hardworking, and talented athletes are an incredible force and inspiration to us all.

But despite their success, women soccer players are still paid significantly less than men—even though the U.S. men's team has never made the same advances, or had the same success, as the women's team. The U.S. men's team didn't even qualify for the last World Cup tournament.

These women are high-performing athletes, and they should be compensated fairly. Sign the petition demanding equal pay for the members of the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team.

Paying women less than men for doing the same job is wrong. In this case, the women's team is outperforming the men's team. Demand that the United States Soccer Federation pay players on the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team the same amount as the men.

"It certainly is not fair."1 Those five simple words from co-captain Megan Rapinoe sum up the problem, and we know the solution is equal pay for these inspiring athletes.

The women's contract says they stand to make a grand total of $200,000 each for winning the World Cup, while men in a similar position would have made over $1 million each.2 We demand equal pay.

In addition to bringing home championships, the U.S. women's team is also bringing in lots of revenue. The U.S. Women's National Team jersey is the best-selling Nike soccer jersey EVER. And the women's team has brought in more revenue than the men's team for the past three years.3

Women soccer players are suing the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) for equal pay, but court battles take a long time and a lot of money. USSF could fix this right now, without the courts, by paying all of the players' salaries and bonuses equally, regardless of gender. That would show little girls everywhere that they deserve the same opportunities boys do.

Will you sign this petition telling U.S. Soccer to pay women fairly?

Thanks!

FW: Can we send you a free #CloseTheCamps sticker?

MoveOn has just printed a big batch of "Close the Camps" stickers designed by artist Pablo Stanley and is giving them away for free, while supplies last.

Hi Eddie—We wanted to make sure you saw our email from the other day.

Dear MoveOn member,

On Tuesday, tens of thousands of MoveOn members and our allies took to the streets at more than 175 protests in more than 40 states to demand that Donald Trump's child concentration camps—where immigrants seeking asylum are being detained—be closed immediately. The pressure is growing, and now multiple members of Congress have visited or have pledged visit the camps. But it will take all of holding our government accountable to provide justice to those in detention.

This inhumane treatment of asylum seekers and immigrants is an atrocity, and we must ensure that every American knows about the brutality being perpetrated by our government in our name. That's why MoveOn has just printed a big batch of "Close the Camps" stickers, designed by artist Pablo Stanley, and is giving them away for free, while supplies last.

Click here or on the image below to order your sticker now.

Last week, we learned that the Trump administration continues to separate children from their families, is refusing to provide soap or toothpaste to the migrant children in these camps, that the children are not allowed to take showers or change their clothes, that babies held there are denied diapers, and that the lights are being left on 24 hours a day to deny those who are detained there the right to sleep.1

And on Monday, journalists at ProPublica revealed the existence of a secret Facebook group with nearly 10,000 Border Patrol agents—about half of the total number of agents in the country—making cruel jokes about the children who have died in their care, using racist epithets, and posting disgusting, threatening memes of members of Congress who oppose the camps.2

And when those same members of Congress visited the camps later that day, they were told by an imprisoned woman that when she asked if she could have some water, a Border Patrol agent told her to drink out of the toilet.3

It is clear that it is not just "a few bad apples" at the border committing these heinous acts. It is clear that it is not just one rogue camp not following the rules. This is the result of an intentional strategy by the Trump administration to terrorize immigrant communities and criminalize immigration.

That is why MoveOn members joined more than 50 partner organization to take to the streets and the halls of Congress this week to demand that all members of Congress use every tool available to them to end these inhumane conditions and close the camps right now, defund these out-of-control agencies, and hold Trump and his administration accountable.

Please click here to order your free "Close the Camps" sticker now to help spread the word, and then share this with your family and friends.

Thanks for all you do.

Close the Camps [photos]

Tens of thousands of MoveOn members like you took action for justice yesterday and demanded an end to Donald Trump's concentration camps for children. Check out photos from protests across the country.

Dear MoveOn member,

Every day immigrants are suffering from intentional inhumane conditions created by the Trump administration.

News continues to pour out that the Trump administration's escalation of brutal attacks against immigrants and refugees has reached new, even more horrific lows, with children being held in unspeakable conditions in concentration camps at the border. Just yesterday, more images and stories emerged about the horrific conditions that children and families are enduring.1

In a powerful response, tens of thousands of MoveOn members and our allies took to the streets yesterday to demand our members of Congress act to close the camps.

Images from the Close the Camps protests
Tens of thousands of people like you—members of MoveOn, United We Dream, Families Belong Together, and American Friends Service Committee, along with more than 50 sponsor organizations—held over 175 protests in over 40 states. And more than 800 letters were hand-delivered to members of Congress, ensuring they received our demands and feel the pressure to act.

Our message was heard around the world—and in the home districts of our representatives and senators.

These Close the Camps protests have changed the way our entire country is talking about the atrocities being committed on our southern border. More than 1,500 local news clips broadcasted our demand to close the camps and to establish an immigration system that uplifts the human rights of all people. Together, we are ensuring that our message cannot be ignored.

We are powerful when we act together, and our work is just beginning.

Congress is already debating funding levels of these agencies for next year, and one of the most important ways to hold these agencies accountable is to stop giving them money to commit human rights violations. That means we need to keep up the pressure on our members of Congress to make sure that they don't give in to Donald Trump and the Republicans in September, before government funding runs out on September 30.

We've got a lot of work ahead of us. Here's what's next and how you can take action:

1. Call your members of Congress. Whether you went to a local protest yesterday or not, dial (844) 899-8261 now to call your representative, and then dial (855) 300-3836 to call your senators. Say to them, "Close the camps, stop funding family detention and deportation, bear witness and reunite families."

2. Contribute to ensure that everyone in detention has legal representation, so they don't have to face an immigration judge alone. Donate to the Texas Civil Rights Project, an organization that is providing free legal services to immigrants in detention. Click here to contribute now.

3. Sign the petition to say Congress must close the camps! Add your name now.

4. Protest or visit a detention center and shine a light on what's happening in our communities. Download United We Dream's resource now.

5. Join a Summer Service Social to connect with MoveOn members in your neighborhood, give back to your community, and build the strong bonds needed to make lasting change. If you don't see a Summer Service Social event scheduled in your community yet, sign up to host one. Click here to find or host a Summer Service Social near you.

Since the 2016 election, MoveOn members have consistently risen up to stop the worst of Trump's policies. Just one year ago, along with close partners and allies, we organized historic rallies that led to an end of Trump's cruel family separation policy.

Now, we must continue to act to stop each escalation of violence and cruelty from this administration. Together, we will create an America that welcomes and treats all people with dignity and respect.

Thanks for all you do.

We Are Watching You, Senator Schumer #closethecamps
WHEN Tuesday, July 2, 6:00 PM
WHERE Across from 9 Prospect Park West in Brooklyn, NY
STOP TRUMP'S CHILD CONCENTRATION CAMPS!
Yes! I'll be there.

Children denied soap and toothbrushes, crowded into unsafe conditions. Separated from their families, subject to cruel treatment that leads to lasting traumas. And some dying in custody—or dying with parents as they cross the Rio Grande.

We've seen the images and heard the stories coming out of child detention centers. Horrifically, these conditions aren't an accident. They are the byproduct of an intentional strategy by the Trump administration to terrorize immigrant communities and criminalize immigration—from imprisoning children in inhumane conditions to threatening widespread raids to break up families to covering up reports of immigrants dying in U.S. custody and abuses by ICE and CBP agents.

This Tuesday, July 2, while members of Congress are home for the Fourth of July holiday, we will gather at their local offices and make our voices heard. Eddie, will you join us?

Yes! I'll be there.
