Here's how we start to hold Trump accountable

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump should be in deep trouble. According to breaking news from The New York Times, Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey in February to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser.1

Trump obstructed justice last week by firing Comey, who was in charge of investigating his campaign's possible collusion with Russia. He's accepting foreign payments to his businesses in possible violation of the Constitution. We learned just within the last 24 hours that Trump revealed classified information to Russia. And now we find out he may have obstructed justice yet again by asking the head of the FBI to end an ongoing investigation?!2

And yet, despite all this, Republicans in Congress are refusing to create an independent commission or appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Trump's reckless administration and campaign.

What more will it take for Republicans in Congress to finally put our country before their party and act to hold Trump accountable? Two things:

First, Trump must lose support among Republican voters.

And second, Republicans need to start losing congressional seats that they've long held, making it clear to them that the survival of their congressional majority is at risk.

That's why winning next week's special election to fill an open House seat in deep-red Montana is so critical.

The race pits a populist, progressive Democrat, Rob Quist, against a billionaire Republican who's closer to Washington lobbyists than everyday Montanans.

Quist has a real chance to win. While he's trailing the Republican candidate, Greg Gianforte, by six points in a recent poll, Quist has the momentum and is closing the gap with just nine days left.3

MoveOn is pulling out all the stops to elect Quist. But there are just a few days left to chip in while the Quist campaign and MoveOn can put your money to use to win this election. Will you chip in $6 to the Quist campaign and MoveOn's efforts to elect him?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in right now to help Rob Quist win on May 25.

Candidates like Rob Quist don't come around that often. As he says in his ads, "There are nearly 300 millionaires in Congress, but not one Montana folk singer." He's a supporter of Medicare for All, believes in protecting public lands, is an unequivocal champion of reproductive freedom, and he's ready to take on the millionaire interests and the lobbyists they support. He's also loudly calling for an independent investigation of Trump's ties to Russia and his firing of James Comey.

By electing Rob Quist, we're not just sending a message to Republicans in Washington that their days in office are numbered, we’re also sending a message to the Democratic Party that these are the kinds of candidates that need to run.

MoveOn is launching a blitz of online ads across the state targeting independent voters, letting them know that Quist's opponent sides with Washington lobbyists over regular Montanans.

We’re also sending hundreds of thousands of get-out-the-vote texts to progressive voters and partnering with groups like Democracy for America and Swing Left to make thousands of calls to support the insurgent and exciting Quist candidacy.

We don't know what the next few days will reveal about Trump's obstruction of justice, and you can be sure MoveOn members will continue to fight for an independent investigation into Trump's foreign and financial entanglements. But making a difference in this race is something we can do right now.

With just nine days left, we are running out of time to accept donations and put them to good use. In a state like Montana, your donation will go a long way, which is why we’re asking:

Will you join thousands of other progressives and split a donation between Rob Quist's campaign and MoveOn's efforts to elect him? Click here to chip in $6—or whatever you can afford.

Thanks for all you do.
