On Wednesday afternoon, members of the Senate are expected to cast their final votes in Donald Trump's impeachment trial.1
Trump is hoping the story will be that he's been "exonerated" by the Senate. But we can help tell the real story, that he and Mitch McConnell have engineered a cover-up. Immediately following Wednesday's Senate vote, we'll do just that, with folks gathering at hundreds of events around the country to send one simple message: We reject the cover-up.
Can you join a Reject the Cover-Up event in your community on Wednesday, at 5:30 p.m. local time?
I don't know about you, but I am angry. Republicans in the Senate are closing ranks to defend Trump, putting his interests over the Constitution, voting last Friday against hearing from witnesses with first-hand knowledge of Trump's crimes, against the will of the vast majority of their constituents.
But we know that Trump broke the law—and that the GOP Senate is aiding him in a cover-up, not undertaking a real trial. Senators who participate in this cover-up and who vote against conviction and removal need to hear from us!
Nobody Is Above the Law coalition organizations, including Common Cause, Indivisible, Sierra Club, Women's March, Public Citizen, March for Truth, and Stand Up America, are coming together to protest this cover-up in every community.
Together, we'll march to demand three things:
- Accountability: Trump and the members of Congress who voted to cover up his crimes will be held accountable by their constituents.
- Democracy: Now more than ever, we'll need to ensure free and fair elections, which means full funding for election security and stopping vote suppression.
- Reform: Just like after Richard Nixon's Watergate, we, the people, must demand structural reforms that ensure something like this can never happen again.
