Dear fellow MoveOn member,
When asked on March 30 about proposals to give hazard pay to the millions of workers on the frontlines of the coronavirus pandemic, Donald Trump said, "If anybody's entitled to it, they are."1
But one month and four relief package bills from Congress later, no hazard pay has been given—or even "seriously considered" by Congress.2 This is unacceptable. Essential workers—from bus drivers to farm workers and warehouse workers to health care professionals—deserve proper compensation and financial protection.
We the essential workers—the grocery store and meatpacking plant employees helping to feed your families, the health care workers nursing COVID-19 patients back to health, and many others—are risking our health and the health of our loved ones if we bring the virus home. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Ro Khanna have proposed a full Essential Workers Bill of Rights, including a living wage and hazard pay, because Congress should be providing essential workers with the protections they need, the rights they are entitled to, and the compensation they deserve.
Thanks!
