1 million jobs. Gone.

You're fired!
(or at least you could be if Romney and Ryan are elected)
Possible reasons for termination:
  •   The Romney-Ryan budget would kill 1 million U.S. jobs in 2013
  •   To give more to the rich, Romney and Ryan would raise taxes on the middle class—tanking the economy and killing jobs
  •   Romney is proposing to give even bigger tax breaks to corporations that outsource jobs
Will you help us share 1 million pink slip messages today so voters know what to expect if Romney and Ryan are elected?
Yes, I can share this!
Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan are the dream ticket for the 1%. But their plan to give even more to the rich would be disastrous for the economy. We're distributing 1 million pink slips this week to show voters just how many jobs Romney and Ryan would cost us in the first year alone. Can you share this pink slip message with everyone you know?
Romney & Ryan: Don't hire them,
unless you want them to fire you.

No fracking in New York State

Below is an email from Matthew DeSanctis, a MoveOn member in New York who created a petition on SignOn.org, the nonprofit site that allows anyone to start their own online petition. If you have concerns or feedback about this petition, click here.

Dear New York MoveOn member,

Hydrofracking will destroy New York's abundance of fresh water. Bottom line: this is our water.

50% of cement casings in these oil wells fail within 30 years of use, releasing hundreds of neurotoxins, plastics, natural gas, and other chemicals into our water.

We should not allow the gas industry to frack in New York. Studies must be conducted to prove these drill rigs will be safe forever—not just for a few years.

That's why I created a petition on SignOn.org to the New York State House, Senate, and Governor Andrew Cuomo, which says:

Do not allow the gas industry to drill the Marcellus Shale in New York State!

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

Thursday: The Romney-Ryan fight begins in Fresh Meadows

One million of us could lose our jobs if the Romney-Ryan ticket wins this fall. So we're distributing a million pink slips online and on the ground to make this a huge national story. There's an action this Thursday, August 16 in Fresh Meadows at 5:45 PM. Can you make it?

Yes! I'll Be There!

Dear MoveOn member,

Even though the Romney-Ryan ticket is front page news, barely anyone is reporting that their extreme economic policies would cost us one million jobs in just one year, and more than 4 million jobs by the end of 2014.1

Recent polling shows that our campaign to expose Romney as the 1% candidate is working!2 So now, with Paul Ryan on the ticket, voters need to know that Romney-Ryan will kill millions of jobs.

Because this election will be won or lost on the issue of jobs, we're blowing up the disastrous job loss in the national media. If we can cast doubt on the 1% ticket right now, it will be harder for Romney-Ryan to recover with voters this fall.

Here's the plan: This Thursday, August 16, we're going to distribute one million Romney-Ryan pink slips by hitting the streets and getting this critical information literally into the hands of voters—right as we release a new ad in swing states and flood Facebook and Twitter. We'll gather at post offices, malls, libraries, and other high-traffic areas to distribute the pink slip flyers and make sure voters get the message. And we'll invite the media to amplify our message.

There's a pink slip action in Fresh Meadows at 5:45 PM, and we need a big turnout to make an impression. Can you make it?

Yes! Sign me up to hand out Romney-Ryan pink slips!

This election year, we've used the power of grassroots organizing to shape the national debate and make sure voters know that Romney is unequivocally the 1% candidate. We've released hard-hitting ads and organized massive protests at Romney's fundraisers and campaign stops—and recent polls show that our hard work is paying off. Sixty four percent of Americans now think Romney favors the rich over the middle class.3

With the Republican National Convention just a few weeks away, Romney and Ryan will crosscross the country on an aggressive media blitz—so we're pulling out all the stops this week to make their plan to kill one million jobs a huge national story. With 7 million members, we can shift the national story about the Romney-Ryan job-killing plan—but it's only going to work if we talk to enough voters and get the attention of the local and national press.

There's an action this Thursday, August 16 at 5:45 PM in Fresh Meadows. Can you be there?

Yes! Sign me up!

Thanks for all you do.

Beat Romney-Ryan in Inwood

This week, we're handing out 1 million pink slips across the country to show voters how many jobs the Romney-Ryan ticket would cost us in 2013. But we need more events in Inwood. Can you help get the word out about Romney-Ryan pink slips next Thursday, August 16?

I'll lead an action!

Dear MoveOn member,

Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's new pick for vice president, proposed a budget in Congress that would cost America more than a million jobs in 2013 alone.1

And Romney's record of outsourcing and job-destroying means that a Romney-Ryan administration could throw America right back into recession.2

That's why we have to stop them in their tracks by exposing how their policies would put a million of our friends and neighbors out of work next year.

We're organizing "Pink Slip" flyering actions this Thursday, August 16—where we'll hand out Romney-Ryan pink slips to make sure voters and the media tell the truth about the Romney-Ryan plan for America's economy.  We'll invite other MoveOn members and make sure you have all the tools you need. Can you organize a Romney-Ryan Pink Slip event on Thursday, August 16?

Yes, I can plan a Romney-Ryan Pink Slip action in Inwood!

Nationwide, we're stepping up our grassroots game with a goal to distribute 1 million pink slips—to represent the million jobs that a Romney-Ryan budget would cost us in just one year.

Polls show that our messaging about Romney is working: 64% of voters think Romney favors the rich over everyone else—so our message is breaking through!3 This is our chance to cement the truth about Romney-Ryan policies before they spin a different story at the Republican National Convention in a few weeks.

Leading an event like this is really easy to do—and our message is amplified by the hundreds of events happening around the country on the same day. All you need is to print out a stack of "pink slips" and pick a spot with heavy foot traffic. We'll invite other MoveOn members in your community to join—since it's always more fun with a crowd.

Can you step up and lead a Romney-Ryan pink slip event in Inwood?

Yes! Sign me up to lead a Pink Slip event.

Thanks for all you do.

Did Romney just give away the election?

If voters find out what Paul Ryan really stands for, then Mitt Romney just gave away the election. But the next ten days are critical to make sure the public gets the truth about Paul Ryan—not just the Romney campaign's spin. Chip in $5 for our emergency "Paul Ryan is Wrong for America" campaign.

Chip in $5

Dear MoveOn member,

Breaking news: Mitt Romney just picked tea party hero Paul Ryan as his running mate. And Romney may have just committed political suicide.

Paul Ryan is the author of the most extreme right-wing budget ever proposed in Congress. He wants to dismantle Medicare, privatize Social Security, and cut taxes for millionaires while raising taxes on the middle class.1

Simply put, the policies Paul Ryan stands for are politically toxic.

But here's the thing: Paul Ryan isn't just a extremist—he's young, smart, and charming. The media constantly describe him as looking like "the boy next door." He's the ultimate wolf in sheep's clothing.

The next ten days are crucial to make sure the American people understand the truth about Paul Ryan. We're launching an emergency "Paul Ryan is Wrong For America" campaign, but we need to raise $200,000 this weekend to make it happen.

Chip in $5 to America learn the truth about Paul Ryan.

Here's the plan:

  • We'll hold protests everywhere Romney and Ryan go this week, and we've got an ambitious plan to hand out over 1 million pink slips to voters to show how many jobs the Romney-Ryan ticket would cost us.

  • We're going to share stories from Paul Ryan's actual constituents who know best what he's all about—including one woman who was unemployed, facing large medical bills, and literally camped out for a week in front of Paul Ryan's office because he refused to meet with her. She's still waiting for her meeting.

  • We've putting together a wave of super-sharable videos, photos, and Facebook posts that we can use to tell people about Paul Ryan via social media. For starters there's an unbelievable clip of Glenn Beck calling Paul Ryan his "soul mate."2

I'm so excited to put this plan into action. If we can pull it off, this could hurt the Romney campaign the way the Sarah Palin debacle hurt John McCain. But we can't do it unless we can raise $200,000 this weekend.

Chip in $5 to help make sure America knows the truth about Paul Ryan.

The next ten days are crucial for the future of America. Every day this week, Mitt Romney will be making appearances with Paul Ryan at diners, town squares, factories—all to create the false impression that he and Paul Ryan understand the concerns of people like you and me.

The Republicans are trying to do exactly what they did with George W. Bush—convince people that he's someone you'd like to have a beer with, and then ram though a far-right agenda that screws the middle class.

We can't count on the media to tell the truth. It's up to us to set the record straight.

Chip in $5 to help make sure America knows the truth about Paul Ryan.

Thanks for all you do.

We're getting beat

Polls show that Republican voters are the ones who are fired up and ready to go. So, it's time for us to wake up! Become a movement maker today by chipping in $15 each month and help give the progressive movement a shot in the arm.

Chip in $15

Dear MoveOn member,

We're getting beat and it's time to wake up.

The unlimited money ushered in by Citizens United means the right wing could outspend progressives 2 to 1 this election—and Romney's just out raised President Obama for the third straight month.1

Congressional Republicans sabotaged our economic recovery by crashing the debt ceiling and blocking every jobs measure put forward by the president. Republican governors drastically cut jobs, offsetting private sector job gains. Now Romney is blaming Obama for high unemployment.

Republicans passed Jim Crow style voter suppression laws that will disenfranchise millions of progressive voters, targeting low income folks, people of color, and the young.2

And the worst of it is—we're still asleep. Because despite all this, a Gallup Poll shows that Democrats are much less enthusiastic about voting than Republicans.3 That means we lose.

MoveOn members are 7 million strong. We have a proven record of creative, dynamic, and grassroots election campaigning. From launching the most talked about political ads to running the most inventive and effective voter contact programs, MoveOn can provide the shot in the arm that progressives need right now.

But to do that we need to double our number of "movement makers"—the members who make a  regular monthly donation—from 15,000 to 30,000. Can you help join the wake up call?

Yes, I can chip in $15 each month and become a movement maker.

No, but I can make a one-time donation.

In past elections MoveOn members funded one of the most covered political ads, for the least money, in history.4 We also produced one of the most effective voter contact programs ever studied.5 But with a torrent of 1% money being unleashed, we need to double the impact of our election plan:

  1. Showing America that Mitt Romney is running for President of the 1% through creative ads and daring actions on the ground.

  2. Fighting back against Republican voter suppression of the Rising American Electorate—the people of color, single women, and young people who helped elect President Obama in 2008.

  3. Making calls, knocking on doors, and using innovative new technology to register and turn out as many progressive voters as humanly possible.

Just imagine taking everything we can do together and doubling it. That's what our goal of reaching 30,000 movement makers is all about. For a small regular donation each month you can become a MoveOn movement maker and make that happen.

Yes, I'll chip in $15 each month and become a movement maker.

No, but I can make a one-time donation.

Contributing to any cause or community of people, especially making a regular contribution, is an act of great trust and faith. Today you can place your faith in a community of 7 million fellow MoveOn members and trust that your contribution will help empower their passion, commitment, and energy.

Thanks for all you do.
