Re: Sign this petition re: Louis DeJoy and the USPS

DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration. Sign the petition to hold him accountable. DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration

Mar—News broke early Friday evening that DeJoy plans to slow mail delivery even more by scaling back first-class mail, and he plans to raise postage rates significantly.1 The impact of these changes on vital services would be huge: Bills and correspondence would be delayed even more than they have been, at a time while we're already seeing wide-scale delays in medication and package deliveries. Will you sign the petition calling for new bosses to be appointed who can fire Postmaster General Louis DeJoy?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is a Trump enabler who currently manages the day-to-day operations of the USPS. DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration, and the post office could be stuck with him if we don't act now.

Sign now: Urge President Joe Biden and the Senate to immediately fill the vacancies on the Postal Board of Governors with appointees who will hold Louis DeJoy accountable for the damage he's done.

The United States Postal Service is a public good. They deliver to every address regardless of location, which is important, especially for people who live somewhere rural or hard to access. They deliver essential, lifesaving prescription medication and have continued to deliver important packages for small businesses and families alike. They are the backbone of our democracy, especially during this pandemic, when they delivered over 100 million ballots for the 2020 election. The USPS keeps our society going and has been the truest of essential services.

Despite all of this, Louis DeJoy deliberately sabotaged the functioning of the USPS by eliminating overtime pay, reducing retail hours, closing and consolidating post office locations, removing mail-sorting machines before the election, and implementing tactics to slow down delivery speeds.2 These delays disproportionately targeted communities of color, which added insult to injury after decades of voter suppression against Black and non-Black communities of color.3

The board of governors oversees the activities of the Postal Service. They can hire and fire the postmaster general, review all practices of the USPS, and along with the Postal Regulatory Commission, set policies for the Postal Service. The board currently has a Republican majority, but only because there are three empty Democratic seats.

DeJoy was selected by Donald Trump to sabotage the post office in order to privatize it, but we can stop him. The board of governors can hold DeJoy accountable for carrying out Trump's wishes of strategically dismantling the functioning of post offices across the country. The board can and must set a new direction for the post office, and we can ensure this happens by filling the vacancies on its board of governors.

Pressure from people like you and me works. This summer, a coalition formed to come to the defense of the post office, and we saw over 1,100 events at local post offices across the country. Both the House and the Senate called DeJoy to testify about the service cuts in August.4 Federal Court Judge Stanley Bastian called DeJoy's changes "a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service."5 After public outcry, our advocacy, and multiple lawsuits, DeJoy was pressured into reversing all slowdown changes before Election Day. But DeJoy immediately began reinstating those changes on November 4. Our advocacy and pressure must continue.

DeJoy has said that he's working on a 10-year plan for the post office that will come out soon, and we can expect it to feature more attacks against Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and rural communities; more price hikes and service cuts; and other measures to carry out Trump's OMB report calling for the post office to be privatized and sold for parts. He's already announced plans to cut service to Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.6

The stakes couldn't be higher: We saw the effects of Louis DeJoy's pet project to slow down the mail, jack up prices, and privatize the post office in the middle of a pandemic that is decimating the postal workforce. 20,000 postal workers either tested positive for COVID-19 or were quarantining due to exposure leading up to the holidays. Postal workers were pushed to their breaking point, working double shifts to deliver our packages. The volume increase was entirely predictable, and DeJoy did not plan for it.

If we don't stop Louis DeJoy now, a national treasure will be lost. That's why President Biden and the Senate must fill the empty seats on the Postal Board of Governors with pro-post office members who will prioritize the mandate of the USPS to serve all of us and will stop DeJoy's ideological project to kill the agency in its tracks.

Add your name to demand that these seats be filled by people who will finally hold Louis Dejoy accountable.

Thanks!

Stephanie Apollon, Save the Post Office Coalition

We're launching a huge campaign to defeat seditionists in 2022

The GOP has made their choice, and they chose lies, conspiracy, and a dictatorial cult of personality. We know Trump's sham acquittal is disappointing. But this is no time for despair. It's time to fight back.

Dear MoveOn member,

Yesterday afternoon, the GOP despicably voted to acquit Donald Trump for inciting a deadly white supremacist attack on our democracy.1

We can't let these cowards—who would rather curry favor with Trump than protect our democracy—continue to serve in office.

So now, MoveOn is making a HUGE announcement: We're launching a massive campaign to oust these GOP traitors at the ballot box in 2022. We'll take on vulnerable GOP senators, including Marco Rubio in Florida and Ron Johnson in Wisconsin, and we'll go big to win open Senate seats in swing states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina.

But we need your help to launch and sustain this ambitious campaign through Election Day in 2022. Will you chip in $5 a month to help ensure we have the consistent resources to launch hard-hitting TV ads and billboards, run bold get-out-the-vote efforts, and do whatever else it takes to win in 2022?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Mar, we know it seems that the 2020 elections just ended and that 2022 is a lifetime away from now.

But if you think that, think again: The GOP is already raising millions to defeat Democrats in 2022.

The latest figures paint a foreboding picture. Senate Republicans are beginning the 2022 elections with "a fundraising advantage over Democrats."2 In fact, while the National Republican Senatorial Committee has $5.4 million in its coffers, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee is more than $10 million in debt.3

And that's just the beginning. Marco Rubio has already amassed a $3 million war chest to win re-election, and we know that conservative billionaires will stop at nothing to ensure their Republican cronies are back in power.4

Make no mistake: The GOP is prepared to shovel tens of millions into attack ads and smear campaigns against Democrats—all to reinstall Mitch McConnell as Senate majority leader. Which means we need to fight back. And that starts RIGHT NOW.

Will you chip in $5 a month to fight back against the GOP's dark money, win in 2022, and ensure Mitch McConnell doesn't control the Senate?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

We have our work cut out for us in the 2022 elections. We not only need to oust the seditionists in order to defend democracy, we also need to protect Democrats in swing states and districts who are up for re-election, and are likely to face difficult races in states where Republicans are planning to gerrymander districts in their favor.

Already, the GOP has said it "will put a heavy focus" on attacking and defeating Senator Raphael Warnock in Georgia and Senator Mark Kelly in Arizona in 2022, who both have to run again even though they were just elected.5 MoveOn members like you played a pivotal role in flipping Georgia and Arizona blue last year, and now the GOP wants revenge. But if we all do our part, we won't let them take away our Democratic majority in the Senate.

But it's not just in the Senate that we have work to do. Right now, Democrats hold the slimmest majority in modern history in the House.6 And the GOP just announced it is targeting a whopping 47 House Democrats in swing districts.7

And just days ago, Trump vowed to do everything he could to help Republicans win back the House in 2022.8

If it wasn't clear enough, the 2022 elections will be a defining moment for our nation. Will the white nationalists and fascists succeed in controlling our government, or will our nation choose the path of democracy?

The GOP has made their choice, and they chose lies, conspiracy, and a dictatorial cult of personality. We know Trump's sham acquittal is disappointing. But this is no time for despair. It's time to fight back.

Will you take action by chipping in $5 a month to fuel our efforts to win in 2022, defeat the GOP, and protect democracy? Your early investment makes all the difference.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Shocking updates from the impeachment trial

Yesterday, the House impeachment managers sent a jolt through the Senate when they revealed chilling, never-before-seen security footage from inside the Capitol on January 6.

Hi, Mar!

Yesterday, the House impeachment managers sent a jolt through the Senate when they revealed chilling, never-before-seen security footage from inside the Capitol on January 6.

The terrifying footage—which showed senators mere seconds away from being overtaken by the bloodthirsty white supremacist mob—has the potential to be a game-changer and could lead to Donald Trump's conviction.

GOP Senator James Lankford reportedly "shed tears" as he watched the harrowing footage.1 Mitt Romney called the videos "overwhelmingly distressing," and hardline conservative Senator Bill Cassidy called the case against Trump "very powerful."2,3

Reporting overnight suggests that these revelations are starting to impact some Republican senators, and one source says that SEVERAL Republican senators are seriously considering convicting Trump.4 Even Mitch McConnell is not pressuring the GOP to acquit Trump.5

Mar, we have a real shot at ridding our country of the existential threat of Donald Trump and ensuring he's never again able to run for office—but this is our LAST, BEST chance to do so.

Which is why we're preparing to launch emergency billboards targeting critical swing senators, including Mitt Romney and Rob Portman. But we urgently need your help to keep this campaign going full steam ahead. Will you rush a $3 donation right now?

Below, you can read our message from yesterday for more details about the work MoveOn is doing to call for Trump's conviction.

Dear MoveOn member,

The start of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial went so badly that Donald Trump reportedly screamed at his television.6

House impeachment managers presented the beginning of an open-and-shut case—and Trump's lawyers responded with such rambling nonsense that even Trump's biggest defenders said they had "no idea" what his lawyers were doing.7

Then something really surprising and really bad for Trump happened: Conservative Republican Senator Bill Cassidy actually changed his mind and voted to let the impeachment trial go forward.

If one Republican can change his mind, then others can too. A bipartisan vote to convict Trump will send a message down through history and to every aspiring Trump-style authoritarian from Ted Cruz to Josh Hawley to Marjorie Taylor Greene that they will not get away with attacking our democracy.

The next 72 hours will be crucial, as House impeachment managers present the evidence and Trump's legal team is forced to defend the indefensible. We're keeping the pressure on Senate Republicans by running mobile billboards in Washington, D.C, and we want to expand our billboard campaign to the states, pressuring Republican senators most likely to vote to convict to listen to the evidence and do the right thing. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in $3 to help fund billboards to call on the Senate to convict Trump.

House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin opened yesterday's hearing with an argument that was so powerful that Trump's own lawyers admitted that it caused them to change their opening arguments and left Trump screaming at his television.8

Then, Trump's lawyers were so bad that the main constitutional law professor they relied on said that his legal analysis was "the opposite" of what Trump's legal team claimed.9

The rest of this trial might not go any better for Trump either, because the evidence is overwhelming: Trump incited a violent insurrection in an attempt to overturn the results of a free and fair election.

For months, he pushed the lie that he won the election "by a landslide" but that it was stolen. He made one false claim after another about election fraud. Then, on January 6, he urged a white nationalist mob to attack the U.S. Capitol to stop the certification of the election, leading to the deaths of five people and the injuring of hundreds of others.

If that's not an impeachable offense, then what is?

Every senator is not only a juror but a witness, and the ruling they hand down will echo down through history. If they vote to acquit, the message is that any future president can incite a violent coup d'etat to stay in power and get away with it.

There are clear signs that Republicans are feeling the pressure. In Trump's first impeachment, not one House Republican voted for impeachment. The second time, 10 did.

In his first impeachment, one Republican voted to convict. Today, six Republicans voted to move forward with the trial, rejecting the main defense argument that it is unconstitutional to convict a president after leaving office.

It's crucial that we keep the pressure on now. Not with threats of violence or intimidation, but with the power of our arguments. It costs thousands of dollars to run a single billboard for a day, and the next 72 hours will be critical. Will you chip in $3 to expand our billboard campaign pressuring Republican senators to convict Trump for his role in the January 6 insurrection?

Yes, I'll donate $3 right now.

Thanks for all you do.

Sign this petition re: Costco & MyPillow

I'm calling on Costco, my favorite store, to stop hosting roadshows for MyPillow. Will you join me?

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Mike Lindell, the founder and CEO of MyPillow, is a vehement and vocal supporter of former President Trump. Mr. Lindell, an avid conspiracy theorist and major Republican donor, twice showed up at the White House to bend Trump's ear in the final months of his presidency. The first time, he was hocking an unproven COVID-19 treatment, and the second, he was encouraging Trump to overthrow the results of the presidential election.

This is why I'm calling on Costco, my favorite store, to stop hosting roadshows for Mr. Lindell's company, MyPillow. Will you join me?

When Mr. Lindell visited the White House on January 15, he was photographed outside the West Wing with written notes to give Trump, instructing him to overturn the election by way of martial law. I no longer think a great company like Costco should allow MyPillow a place to set up and sell their products. Costco should not support such treasonous behavior. MyPillow should be banned from ALL Costco facilities.

Thanks!

That went so bad for Trump

The start of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial went so badly that Donald Trump reportedly screamed at his television.

Dear MoveOn member,

The start of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial went so badly that Donald Trump reportedly screamed at his television.1

House impeachment managers presented the beginning of an open-and-shut case—and Trump's lawyers responded with such rambling nonsense that even Trump's biggest defenders said they had "no idea" what his lawyers were doing.2

House impeachment manager Jamie Raskin opened yesterday's hearing with an argument that was so powerful that Trump's own lawyers admitted that it caused them to change their opening arguments and left Trump screaming at his television.3

Then, Trump's lawyers were so bad that the main constitutional law professor they relied on said that his legal analysis was "the opposite" of what Trump's legal team claimed.4

In his first impeachment, one Republican senator voted to convict. Yesterday, six Republican senators voted to move forward with the trial, rejecting the main defense argument that it is unconstitutional to convict a president after leaving office.

Call Now: Impeachment trial must have witnesses

The full story of Trump and the GOP Treason Caucus's involvement in the attempts to overturn our election will only come to light with there are witnesses in the impeachment trial.

Dear MoveOn member,

Convicting Donald Trump in the impeachment trial is an uphill battle, but the public deserves to see the truth and fully understand Trump's leadership role in the deadly attacks on our democracy.

The full story of Trump and the GOP Treason Caucus's involvement in the attempts to overturn our election will come to light only if there are witnesses in the impeachment trial.

Will you call your senator, Charles E. Schumer, and say you support the House impeachment managers' calling witnesses in the impeachment trial?

Here's where to call: 1-888-894-1033

And here is an example of what you can say:

Hi! My name is Mar, and I'm a constituent from Inwood. Sen. Schumer must call publicly and privately for witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial to ensure the American people get the full picture of Trump and the Republicans' long involvement in stoking the deadly violence and attacks on our democracy. Do you support calling witnesses in the trial? What are you doing to ensure the House impeachment managers call them?

The impeachment trial is not just about conviction; it's also about growing the majority of people who believe Trump is guilty, which empowers progressives to pass the reforms needed to protect our democracy from attacks in the future and helps us push back on the violent followers Trump has emboldened.

Here's how witnesses fit into the trial process: Today, the Senate will vote on the rules for the trial, then turn it over to the House managers to explain why the House of Representatives impeached Trump and why the Senate should convict him, followed by Trump's legal defense arguments. The proposed rules give House managers the option to have a vote on calling witnesses after the arguments and before a verdict. But some senators, even those who support conviction, might see witnesses as unnecessary if Republicans appear intent on letting Trump off without consequences for his actions. We need to show that we support calling witnesses so the Senate can do its full duty under the Constitution and not allow Trump loyalists to stop the arguments prematurely.

Call Sen. Schumer at 1-888-894-1033, and make sure they know you want to see witnesses in the Senate impeachment trial.

Thanks for all you do.
