Democrats keep losing elections. Here's how we can finally win.

Our candidates need to change the playing field—from campaigns driven by high-priced consultants and cautious poll-testing to ones built on genuine, one-on-one conversations with voters.

Dear MoveOn member,

It's not enough for progressives to just be anti-Trump.

The special elections that we've lost already this year have proven that. We must address the forces that helped create Trump in the first place, including inequality, stagnant wages, the shrinking middle class, and appeals to racism. Otherwise, we'll just keep losing.

To win, our candidates need to change the playing field—from campaigns driven by high-priced consultants and cautious poll-testing to ones built on genuine, one-on-one conversations with voters.

That's why I'm so enthusiastic about MoveOn's new Neighborhood Listening Project. MoveOn is training 1,000 emerging community leaders—a massive effort that's at the grand scale that this political moment and our country's future demand.

These MoveOn-trained organizers will knock on doors all over the country to connect with voters and understand, at a personal level, what's on people's minds. Along the way, they'll talk about a positive vision for our country, recruit volunteers, and build grassroots power. Crucially, many of these canvasses will take place in the swing states and districts that are going to be the most critical in next year's midterm elections.

This is just the kind of long-term organizing that we need to undertake to lay the groundwork to win control of Congress next year and secure more legislative and electoral victories in the years after. But this kind of organizing and movement building is incredibly intensive work, and I know that MoveOn has taken a big risk in launching this program before they'd recruited enough monthly supporters to fund it and then to sustain what they build.

That's why I'm writing you today on behalf of MoveOn. Eddie, will you chip in $5 a month to help support MoveOn's game-changing organizing?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly right now to help support MoveOn's long-term organizing to lay the groundwork to win control of Congress next year.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Donald Trump and his cronies are still trying to push through one of the most destructive and unpopular agendas in history, and they have no interest in hearing what their constituents think, want, or need. They've stopped answering their phones, and they've refused to hold town hall meetings. If Republicans won't listen to the American people, MoveOn will.

Starting this week, the 1,000 community organizers that MoveOn is training (and who will, in turn, train thousands more progressive activists on how to canvass their own communities) will hold hundreds of listening canvasses that will reach tens of thousands of Americans at their doorsteps by the end of July. MoveOn is going to give participants the tools to continue canvassing this summer and beyond and share what they're learning, so we can lay the foundation for winning elections in 2018 and 2020.

MoveOn is thinking strategically—big and long-term—and, Eddie, I want to ask you to do the same. Can you chip in $5 a month to help MoveOn build organizing capacity in communities across the country to fight the Republican agenda now and kick Republicans out of office in 2018?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in monthly to start building right now to win back power in 2018.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

This is so important that I'm going to say it again: It's simply not enough to just be against Trump. Progressives will win back power by listening to, connecting with, empowering, and bringing the American people together to fight for an economic and political system that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and the political elites. Let's do this—together.

Thanks for all you do.

When they come for___, will you stand up?

MoveOn is looking for people in every state to respond immediately in moments of national crisis. MoveOn is looking for people in every state to respond immediately in moments of national crisis.

Dear MoveOn member,

We know that Donald Trump is erratic and dangerous. In the aftermath of North Korea's recent ballistic missile test, it's not hard to imagine him responding to international conflict—or an attack within the U.S.—with a dramatic military escalation or an assault on Americans' civil liberties.1

At such a moment, MoveOn members will be called on to mobilize rapidly and strategically to disrupt a domestic crackdown or block a march to war. Let's not wait to prepare the sharpest, most effective response.

Eddie, MoveOn is assembling a group of trained MoveOn members in every state who will be ready to jump into action and help respond within a matter of hours in the event of a national or international emergency.

Are you someone who could take action to stop a rush to war or help stop an unconstitutional domestic crackdown? If you're raising your hand, then click here to help your community respond in an emergency.

MoveOn's goal is to assemble a team of volunteers within the next two weeks. Then, if there is a moment when Trump attempts to rush us to war or attacks our communities, we will be ready to spring into action with events around the country that will send a clear message to Trump, Washington, and the world: Not on our watch!

MoveOn will join with allies to offer trainings and equip community volunteers to mobilize together quickly. This network will take on local organizing all over the country, share plans and ideas, and be visible in standing together for peace, diplomacy, and civil rights and liberties.

Are you or is someone you know interested in helping your community respond in an emergency? Then click here right now! We can't afford to wait another day.

Look: There's reason to believe that this type of escalation could come, and, possibly, quite soon.

As the investigation into Russia's interference with our 2016 election pushes Trump deeper into a corner, he may be actively looking for an emergency that can be exploited to turn the country's attention away from his misdeeds. That's just how he thinks; remember, he once tweeted that Obama might launch a strike in Iran or Libya to boost his popularity.2

What's more, Trump has made repeated threats to use massive force—even nuclear force—in response to national and global problems.3 And he's making good on his threats already.4 He's on his third attempt to implement a Muslim ban.5 He approved the use of the "mother of all bombs" in Afghanistan.6 He asked Congress to increase the current $611 billion military budget by another $54 billion.7 And his escalation of armed conflicts in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan has been both erratic and deadly.8

We're campaigning against Trump's agenda every day. And on some fronts, we're winning. But we'll need MoveOn members to respond at an unprecedented scale and with incredible speed during an emergency moment—these teams of trained volunteers will help lead local efforts to respond peacefully, lawfully, and effectively, whether that's bringing community members into the streets, organizing vigils or rallies, standing in solidarity with a targeted community, or promoting alternatives to knee-jerk militarism and authoritarianism.

Click here to sign up to be trained to help your community respond in an emergency.

Thanks for all you do.

Caught red-handed

This week, it all came tumbling out: The Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to sway the outcome of November's election.

Dear MoveOn member,

This week, it all came tumbling out: The Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to sway the outcome of November's election.

The game is up. Donald Trump and his cronies have been caught red-handed.

Donald Trump Jr.'s emails prove it. There should be no more questions. No lingering doubts. Impeachment proceedings must start immediately.

Through painstaking and dogged campaigning, MoveOn and members like you, Eddie, have laid a very sound foundation for Trump's impeachment. Hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members have called for an independent investigation through rallying, calling, signing petitions, and confronting their members of Congress. MoveOn has produced videos about the Trump team's Russia ties that have been seen millions of times. MoveOn's call for impeachment drew a clear line in the sand, and now MoveOn is doubling down to take this fight to the next level.

Right now, join me in helping to support MoveOn's work to impeach Donald Trump by committing to a monthly, sustaining donation of $5 as a message to MoveOn that you'll support this work for as long as it takes.

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in monthly right now to help demand the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

It's a long road, and the key to victory will be pressing Republicans to choose the Constitution and their country over their party and the Trump family's corruption.

We all know that impeachment is a political process, not just a legal one, and we'll get the full truth, hold Trump accountable, and defend the integrity of our democracy and institutions only if Republicans begin to break from Trump.

But, if they continue to obstruct investigations, cover for his corruption, and ignore these assaults on our Constitution, then we must hold them accountable at the ballot box next year.

And MoveOn, which has been a leader in the relentless effort to defend the work of the special prosecutor, in pushing for an independent investigation, and in rightly calling for impeachment, is now doing the work to ratchet up the pressure on Republicans and insist that they join the growing number of Americans from all walks of life who are ready to hold Trump and his team accountable.

So I have a simple request: Will you join me in chipping in $5 a month to MoveOn to help give them the ongoing resources to build and then sustain the campaign to impeach Trump?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly right now to help demand the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Trump is now the single most powerful person on the planet, with the authority to order a nuclear attack that would distroy the world in just over four minutes.1

It's imperative that we get him out of the White House, peacefully and legally, as quickly as possible.

MoveOn is mobilizing a grassroots campaign to build the momentum to save the country from this corrupt, incompetent menace. This week, on the day that news broke regarding Donald Jr., MoveOn held a rally in front of the White House, and they’re running hard-hitting TV ads this weekend targeting five key House Republicans.

Some might think that impeachment isn't politically realistic. But that's only more proof of the damage that Trump is doing to our institutions: It's now considered somehow acceptable for a president to be caught red-handed conspiring with a foreign government and using his position of power to enrich himself and his family at the expense of millions of Americans.

We need to ensure that a thorough investigation gives us the full truth about Trump and his team's foreign and financial entanglements. We need Republicans to stop defending and enabling Trump’s abusive and unconstitutional behavior. And, though it will take time, we need to continue to raise the grassroots alarm to save our democracy by pursuing impeachment in this Congress or electing a Congress that will.

Please, click here to join me in supporting the long fight ahead to impeach Trump by chipping in $5 a month to MoveOn starting now.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

–Robert Reich

No regrets

This is it, my friends. If McConnell can't get it done by August 14, Trumpcare is likely dead. But McConnell is offering Republican senators all kinds of deals to get the last few votes he needs, and he wouldn't be delaying the start of the recess unless he thought that he had at least a decent chance to get the votes.

Hi Eddie,

When I wrote you earlier this week, Mitch McConnell was offering Republican senators all kinds of deals to get the last few votes he needs to pass Trumpcare. Today, he released a revised version of the bill—and amazingly, it's just as bad.

The bill still kicks millions of Americans off health care, slashes Medicaid, and defunds Planned Parenthood. But the new version also threatens protections for people with pre-existing conditions—which can be anything from cancer to pregnancy to mental illness to diabetes to addiction.

The pressure on my Republican colleagues to fall into line is incredible. McConnell doesn’t have the votes to pass a bill yet—but he is planning on keeping us in Washington, D.C., through August 14 to force Trumpcare through.

That’s why I’m writing to urgently ask you to support MoveOn’s powerful and sophisticated grassroots campaign to compel three (or more) Republican senators to put their constituents’ lives and well-being ahead of party loyalty by chipping in $3 right now. Are you in?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in now to defeat the Republicans' callous health care plan and support MoveOn's work to win over senators who are still on the fence.

For more details on what MoveOn is doing and why your support matters, see my message from earlier this week, below:

Dear MoveOn member,

Mitch McConnell just announced that he plans to bring Trumpcare up for a final vote before senators go home to meet with our constituents—he's taken the unprecedented step of delaying the start of the August state work period until August 14 to give himself time to get the bill through.

Over the next three weeks, every Republican senator will face enormous pressure from the GOP to get on board, so we need to put even more pressure on them to vote no.

Can you help MoveOn cover the costs of rapid-response digital ads, innovative tools that make it even easier to drive constituent calls to Congress, coordination of events in D.C. and around the country that put constituents at the heart of this debate, and last-minute grassroots organizing to defeat this catastrophic health care plan by chipping in $3 right now?

Yes, I'm in! I'll chip in now to defeat the Republicans' callous health care plan and support MoveOn's work to win over senators who are still on the fence.

Why would anyone support this bill? How does this bill help real people with real challenges?

It's simple: It doesn't. (Because, and this is crucial: The Republicans drafted their health care repeal bill in secret, without a single Democrat or woman in the room.)

So here's the message I'm sending to my GOP colleagues in the Senate: This shouldn't be a matter of automatically supporting this bill if you're a Republican or objecting just because you're a Democrat. This is about what's right and what's wrong. Taking away health care from 22 million Americans in order to give the wealthiest of the wealthy a tax cut is just plain wrong.

MoveOn has played an enormous role in stopping Trumpcare already, and we could well be on the cusp of defeating it. But we're not there yet. Will you help MoveOn's campaign to stop the GOP's terrifying, self-serving health care bill once and for all?

Yes, I'll rush a contribution of $3 to help MoveOn members FLOOD on-the-fence Republican senators with calls, pack events and offices with constituents, and share poignant personal stories.

Thanks for all you do.

VIDEO: The Resistance is local

If we really want to take the Resistance to the next level, and see some real victories in the fight for progressive change, we need to get involved in every state and local election this year, next year, and every year.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

This is Eric Schneiderman, New York's attorney general. And I have a message to share with you: When the right wing goes low, we go local.

The fight against the Trump agenda runs, in part, through our state and local elections. And as I explain in a new video I made with MoveOn.org and Humanity for Progress, it's one we can take on together—building lasting political power for the progressive movement.

Will you take a moment to watch and share this video on how we can win the fight for a progressive future?

The Resistance is Local

(Not on Facebook? You can also click here to watch it on YouTube.)

From fighting the Muslim Ban and defending reproductive rights to resisting attacks on our immigrant communities and tackling climate change, local and state governments are leading the charge. It was a group of state attorneys general whose suit blocked Trump's initial travel ban. And secretaries of state and other local officials are right now rebuffing Trump's fraudulent voter suppression commission's demand for voter information.

We've seen an inspiring surge in grassroots energy—historic marches, countless actions, nonstop phone calls. Now, if we really want to take the Resistance to the next level—and see some real victories in the fight for progressive change—we need that same energy in every state and local election this year, next year, and every year.

It may take a couple of years to see progress in Washington again—but we can start to improve people's lives, protect our rights and liberties, and defend our communities TODAY at the state and local level.

Click here to watch our three-minute video, and then share it to engage your friends in "going local," as we fight for our democracy and our communities.

Together, we can resist and we can win.

—Eric Schneiderman

Sign the petition: Make Trumpcare mandatory for Congress

Will you sign and share my petition telling Congress that should they vote to pass Trumpcare, they must give up eligibility for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program?

Add your name: No taxpayer subsidies for Congressional health insurance if they pass Trumpcare

Should the Republicans in the U.S. Congress pass Trumpcare, legally make members of Congress, their staffs, and their respective families eligible ONLY for individual insurance plans offered through Trumpcare insurance exchanges, without any additional benefits or subsidies provided by the U.S. government. This group must personally experience the effects of Trumpcare and be barred from the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

If Republican legislators are going to introduce massive, structural change into the health care sector, it is only fair that they should personally experience the effects of this change. Direct empirical experience of the law will be the best test of its proclaimed benefits.

We should let Congress enjoy the same quality of insurance that will be available to Americans on the self-insured market.

That's why I started a petition to end taxpayer subsidies for Congress's health care and to make Trumpcare mandatory for members of Congress, their staffs, and their respective families if they vote to pass Trumpcare.

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

—Peggy McInerny

A note from the MoveOn team: This is one of thousands of petitions launched by individual MoveOn members and partner organizations in opposition to the Trump administration's dangerous agenda. Petitions like this one are useful building blocks of our broader resistance organizing efforts. They are delivered to decision-makers, highlighted to media outlets, and circulated online to raise awareness and grow our progressive community. You can start your own petition here.
