Amazon: Stop hosting child pornography (petition)

Add your signature to call on Amazon to do its part to keep kids safe online.

Dear MoveOn member,

Child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sometimes called child pornography, exists in every corner of the internet. It is a horrific, global crisis.

Tech companies have the tools to stop the circulation of these abusive images, but many choose not to.

Amazon, which owns Amazon Web Services—the largest cloud storage provider in the United States, handling millions of uploads and downloads every second—has refused to take any steps to protect children online. This is awful and unacceptable, and we must speak out now!

Add your name to the petition calling on Amazon to stop hosting child pornography.

Last year, tech companies made 17 million reports of CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline, a national mechanism for electronic service providers and the public to report instances of suspected child sexual exploitation.1 Of those 17 million exploitation reports, Amazon made eight.2

By failing to find and report CSAM, Amazon is hurting kids and creating a space for child predators to buy, sell, store, and share these illegal images.

Amazon must keep kids safe by finding and reporting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Amazon Web Services and reporting it to the appropriate authorities.

Amazon Web Services doesn't scan for abuse material at all when files are uploaded, according to law enforcement officials, former employees, and public statements by the company.3 An Amazon spokesman said it's because the "privacy of customer data is critical to earning our customers' trust."4 But at what cost to children? By proactively searching for and reporting CSAM photos and videos, Amazon could save thousands of children from abuse and revictimization.

Amazon's refusal to report CSAM is part of a growing trend of big tech companies pushing the full responsibility of keeping kids safe online onto parents. Tech companies like Amazon are making billions off of families, and they must share the responsibility to keep kids safe.

Parents across the country are demanding Amazon do its part to keep kids safe online by finding and reporting child sexual abuse material.

Thanks.
