LAST CHANCE: We're launching nationwide protests

Since announcing these events on Friday, over 220 events have been scheduled across 43 states, and over 10,000 people have signed up to attend. We have only a few hours left to secure much-needed funds to make these events a success.

Dear MoveOn member,

In a truly brazen and illegal move, Donald Trump declared a national emergency on Friday, circumventing Congress. It's his last-ditch attempt to divert billions to build his useless, racist border wall.1

That's why MoveOn and our allies have been working through the weekend to organize emergency nationwide protests this Monday, February 18, to oppose his manufactured crisis and demand Congress take action, and we urgently need to raise substantial funds to pull them off.

Since announcing these events on Friday, over 220 events have been scheduled across 43 states, and over 10,000 people have signed up to attend. We have only a few hours left to secure much-needed funds to make these events a success.

Will you chip in right now to help help make our nationwide protests a big success?

Trump already lost the battle for wall funding with Congress and the American people. The "compromise" bill released last Wednesday did not include his demanded $5.7 billion for a wall—even though it did make unacceptable concessions to Trump and the GOP to expand immigrant detention centers.

And so, in a move akin to those made by dictators, Trump turned his back on the American people and the democratic process and declared a completely unfounded national emergency in order to appease bigots and the pundits on Fox News.

We will not let Trump's illegal power grab be met with silence. That's why, in coordination with our partners, we are launching our Crisis Response Network, a national network of MoveOn members and allies who are ready to take to the streets to fight back.

We're organizing hundreds of protests in communities large and small across the country, grabbing the attention of the media, Congress, and Trump himself, with a clear message: We stand with the immigrant and refugee communities under attack by Trump's racist demagoguery. There is no emergency. Congress and the courts must take immediate action to overturn this illegal action.

With each passing hour, we're making decisions about how big we can go, and how many ads we can run to recruit to these events. We need to rent stages and audio equipment, print and ship posters, set up livestreams, run Facebook ads to make sure people show up, coordinate with MoveOn members all around the country who are hosting events, and more.

Will you chip in $3 to this emergency campaign, so we can meet our midnight deadline in order to cover the costs associated with these events?

Yes, I'll chip in to help protest Trump's racist, undemocratic emergency power grab.

Trump's emergency declaration shows just how far he's willing to go to get what he wants—and how little regard he has for even the most basic fundamentals of our democracy.

Even some Republicans are alarmed, because of the precedent that this sets.2

But Trump is moving forward, bulldozing everything in his way. And who will pay the cost if Trump succeeds? Immigrant communities already under attack from his inhumane, racist policies.

Trump is a racist and a liar. Declaring a national emergency is a desperate move by an unhinged man unhappy with the results of the 2018 election and angry at a Congress that will not indulge his temper tantrums and conspiracy theories.

We know how far Trump is willing to go, and we must do everything in our power to stop him. Will you chip in $3 right now?

Thanks for all you do.

P.S. Trump's justifications for declaring a state of emergency to fund his border wall are filled with lie after lie, but they also serve as a convenient cover for yet another one of his desperate lurches toward authoritarianism—and the potential consequences could not be more dire.

Depending on the details of the national emergency Trump declared, he may have just opened the door to a set of broad legal powers that have the potential to irrevocably harm our nation. He could use this power to take over internet traffic, block any website he deems unacceptable, stop emails, and even alter search results to only show flattering articles about him and his policies.3 He could even deploy the military within the United States to suppress political protesters.

This may read like a dystopian novel, but if we don't act to stop Trump, it could become our reality.

MoveOn is ready to do everything in our power to put a stop to Trump's baseless, dictatorial move. Eddie, can you rush a $3 contribution to fuel MoveOn's emergency nationwide protests on Monday?

Yes, I'll chip in to help fund MoveOn's emergency protests from coast to coast.
