Dear fellow MoveOn member,
Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley are enemies of democracy, and they must not remain in Congress. Democracy cannot abide lawless lawmakers.
I've been in or around politics for over a half-century now. The current Republican Party is the most treacherous, corrupt, and cult-like institution that I have ever encountered.
The Biden presidency marks a new beginning, but we dare not minimize, forget, or dismiss the calamity of the last several weeks—or the last four years. Unity does not mean letting the instigators of an attempted government coup off the hook.
That's why I'm writing to you today.
MoveOn is leading a huge, all-hands-on-deck campaign to demand that Donald Trump be convicted in his Senate impeachment trial and banned from seeking federal office again, and that the traitors in Congress be immediately removed from office. I've seen MoveOn's plans, and I am impressed and inspired, which is why I have a personal request:
Will you chip in $5 a month to power MoveOn's ambitious campaign to demand that Trump and the GOP traitors be held accountable? With your help, MoveOn will be prepared to buy hard-hitting ads and billboards, flood Congress with phone calls, and do whatever else is needed to demand accountability for as long as it takes.

Right before the storming of the Capitol on January 6, Representative Lauren Boebert tweeted, "Today is 1776."1
At the rally that preceded the riot, Representative Mo Brooks said, "Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass."2
We must expel Boebert, Brooks, and other seditionists in Congress who incited or helped organize the events leading up to the attack on the Capitol.
The 14th Amendment to the Constitution is clear: Those who engage in rebellion or insurrection against the U.S. government are disqualified from serving in Congress.3
Trump must be convicted in his impeachment trial in the Senate, and it must be swift and serious.
This is not about revenge. It is about making sure this doesn't happen again.
Most Republican voters still believe that the election was stolen, because of the lies they were told by GOP leaders. Cruz and Hawley believe that they have gained politically from their actions. Trump hasn't gone away, and neither have the white supremacists he emboldened and radicalized.
In the coming days and weeks, MoveOn will mobilize to help President Joe Biden implement the most important and progressive parts of his agenda. But MoveOn will also keep running tactics like hard-hitting ads, putting up billboards that capture people's attention and can't be missed, organizing massive call-in days and letter writing campaigns—whatever it takes to remove the insurrectionists from Congress and convict Trump in the Senate.
MoveOn's resources come from its members—people like you—who make this critical work possible. Will you join us and do your part by chipping in $5 a month now? As additional details come out and more firsthand accounts continue to be pieced together, one thing is clear: Dangerous, militant extremists plotted to overtake the Capitol. These insurrectionists came to Washington with the intent of committing violence against lawmakers.
This is what Trump and his enablers have unleashed on our country. We can't let them get away with it—or it will happen again.
