The election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is an indictment of and critical departure from the current incompetent, corrupt, and divisive politics of Trump and the Republican Party, and the election of the hard-charging and inspiring Kamala Harris shatters glass ceilings as she becomes the first woman and the first woman of color elected to this level of leadership in our country.

This win is historic: We have defeated a would-be authoritarian regime, allowing us to turn the page to a new chapter in American history. And now, we need to help President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris pursue a big, bold, ambitious agenda that meets the crises we face as a country and can help transform our society and economy for decades to come.

Democrats have a clear mandate in this new chapter: to drive and implement an agenda that meets the needs of the American people now. And they'll need to deliver on the following:

• A robust, bold, expansive package to combat the health and economic crises posed by the pandemic, including massive job-creating investments in climate change solutions as well as a public option for health insurance and an aggressive approach to rebuilding our economy so it works for everyone, not just the wealthy 1%.

We made history by defeating him, electing Joe Biden with record turnout, and making Kamala Harris the first woman and woman of color to hold office at this level. And now, we'll keep doing all we need to fight for change, hope, and progress for all of us.

So take a breath. Take a nap. Hug a loved one. Cry tears of joy.

Day by day, year after year, each of us fought and worked to resist Trump's agenda. It was hard, but we persisted. 

And now, we have shown that our vote has power, and we used that power to restore our democracy and put an end to Trump's authoritarianism.

In this critical election, we had a choice: racism or justice, sexism or equality, classism or unity, homophobia and transphobia or dignity for all. We came together and, in record numbers, chose equity and justice. This election made history as voters of all ages, genders, races, and classes took their power to the polls in historic, record-shattering numbers.

The Trump era of American politics has been defined by division and hatred. But we took our power to the polls, and together, in unity and solidarity, we have won perhaps the most important election of our lifetimes.

We will win

Our votes are power, and we, the voters, will decide this election.

We're winning.

 

It's too soon for media outlets to call the election, but here's what we know: Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are now leading in states which will give them the 270 Electoral College votes necessary to win, and they are on a path to expand that lead as more votes come in.

 

So far, ballot counting has been an orderly process, and it continues as we hoped it would, without interference.

 

Right now, we have one key job: to give local administrators time to do their jobs and count every vote.

Our votes are power, and we, the voters, will decide this election. There was record turnout across the country, putting Biden and Harris on the path to the largest popular-vote victory in history. We always knew that some states would count more slowly than others, and we need to be patient to wait until election officials do their jobs, count votes properly, and then announce the results—which we are confident will result in President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

 

If people you know are jumping to premature conclusions based on last night, there's a simple message you can help share with friends, family, and over social media: Every vote counts.

There will be more to say about the record turnout—the young people, first-time voters, and communities of color that turned out in huge numbers—and the work of hundreds of thousands of MoveOn members to drive this result.

 

And there will be more to dig into as Senate and House races are finalized and we see the congressional landscape ahead, as well as results in statehouses and further down the ballot.

 

For now, it's key that we insist that election officials count every vote. That's the message on the banners we're putting in the skies above Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and around the country with more than a dozen airplanes today. That's the message we need media and elected officials to hear and echo. And that's a message you can share with all your friends on Facebook today, or retweet on Twitter. It's also the message that some organizations will be carrying at events happening in communities where votes are still being counted. 

 

We know it can be an uncertain time. Check in on your loved ones. Take a deep breath. We are the majority, and we believe that we will win.

We've made it to Election Day—arguably the most important day this year, which will determine the course of our democracy for the next four years. 

Record numbers of voters have already turned out across the country to vote for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats up and down the ballot. Together, we're fueling a powerful blue wave that will take back the White House, flip the Senate, expand the majority in the House, turn state legislatures, elect local progressive champions, kick out Trump and his Republican enablers, and get our country moving forward.

We've texted, called, volunteered, donated, and virtually gathered with one another to get out the vote. We have the numbers to win this election by a landslide, but only if we all vote—so let's make today count!

Dear MoveOn member,

We all need to cast our votes this year to defeat Trump and his Republican enablers and fuel a massive blue wave to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris with a commanding national popular majority as well as Electoral College victory.

How do you do this? By voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the Working Families Party line on your ballot—whether you're voting in person or by mail. Your vote on the WFP line counts toward Biden and Harris's totals, the same as if you voted on the Democratic line. But it counts extra—because a vote on the WFP line sends a signal that you are voting specifically on the issues the WFP works tirelessly to advance, like affordable housing, unemployment relief, raising the minimum wage, and more. That means, after all of the votes have been counted, your vote has extra impact when it comes to holding our elected officials to the promises and commitments they make during election season.

Can we count on you to vote on the Working Families Party line for Biden and Harris?

Another critical reason to vote on the WFP line is that the WFP needs 130,000 votes to maintain its ballot line—one major source of its progressive power—for the next four years. Maintaining a line on the ballot is crucial, and it means that the WFP has extra power as it pushes a bold, progressive agenda. But recently, New York has made it harder for third parties to maintain ballot access, raising the total votes needed from 50,000 to 130,000!¹ That makes the WFP's job harder. But the WFP is familiar with hard work.

In 2018, the WFP helped back a series of progressive challengers to throw out conservative Democrats who had caucused with Republicans—delivering a real Democratic majority in the state Senate. And since then, the New York State Senate has developed into one of the most progressive state legislatures in the country and has passed campaign finance reform laws, gun control regulation, expanded workers' rights, and driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants.²

The WFP is continuing to fight for more funding for our schools, additional rights for immigrants, protections for renters, and for the richest New Yorkers to pay their fair share.

And over the next 14 days, the most critical step you can take to help in these fights in New York is to vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on the WFP line—whether you vote on Election Day, vote early in person, or are voting by mail.

2020 has been an excruciating year. But on Tuesday, we could turn the page.

2020 has been an excruciating year. But on Tuesday, we could turn the page.

I would be lying if I told you I wasn't worried. With our country teetering on the edge between democracy and authoritarianism, more could not be at stake.

The only way out of this mess is to hand Donald Trump a resounding defeat—a defeat so decisive that we leave him zero ground to challenge it—and put Democrats in control of the Senate, ending the Trump-Mitch McConnell nightmare.

Let me cut to the chase: I'm writing to you right now because I'm getting asked nonstop about what people can do to have the most impact in these final days of the election. And one of my main answers is donating to MoveOn, because no organization in America has a better track record of success using cutting-edge strategies to get out the vote and win elections than MoveOn.

With everything on the line and so little time left, will you rush an urgent $3 donation to MoveOn right now, to help them get out the vote in battleground states in these final three days? This is the very last time MoveOn will ask before Election Day.

MoveOn is running the biggest voter turnout campaign in its 22-year history. It's a massive, sophisticated operation, with three core components:

1. More than 840,000 volunteers are working with MoveOn to get three or more of their friends in battleground states to the polls—and help deliver the margin of victory in those states. The concept is simple, but the potential impact is massive. Data shows that relational organizing can increase voter turnout by as much as 12%.
3. Everything that MoveOn is doing, from running ads to creating custom videos, is backed by data and analytics. That means, for instance, that before ads are run to large audiences, they are tested to see if they are effective. MoveOn's data and analytics team is top-notch. They are making sure that MoveOn's resources—which come from MoveOn members like you —are well spent.

The bottom line is that I am in awe of the work that MoveOn is doing to mobilize voters in what is the most important election in my lifetime. This is the hard, essential work of winning an election—and winning it with grassroots, people power.
