So long, Tommy?

Tommy Thompson was caught on tape telling tea partiers that he's the best candidate to "do away with Medicaid and Medicare." Now, the devastating video has leaked. We need to capitalize on this moment to win the Senate race in Wisconsin and keep the Senate blue. Can you chip in to Tommy's opponent today?

Dear MoveOn member,

"Who better than me ... to come up with programs to do away with Medicaid and Medicare?"

That's what former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson told a tea party group during his Senate primary in Wisconsin in June.1

Now the bombshell video has leaked, and it's taking off, demolishing Thompson's claims that he's a reasonable moderate.

That means we've got a great opportunity to send progressive fighter Tammy Baldwin to the Senate rather than Thompson. And a win in Wisconsin dramatically reduces the chances of Republicans taking over the Senate.2

News outlets are already running stories with headlines like "Will This Video Sink Tommy Thompson's Wisconsin Senate Hopes?"3 We need to capitalize and make sure it does. Tammy needs our help to do that. Can you chip in $5?

Tammy will be one of the most progressive senators, if she can win. Last year alone, she introduced bills in the House to implement the Buffett Rule and hold banks accountable for defrauding homeowners.4

But Tammy's not the only great progressive with an opportunity to defeat radical Republicans. In Ohio, Sherrod Brown is facing tea partier Josh Mandel, who's repeatedly been caught lying about Sherrod's record.5 So far, Sherrod's history of fighting for working families has stood up to the onslaught, but there's millions of dollars more in Super PAC advertising still coming.

In Connecticut, it's not outside money—but Republican Linda McMahon's almost unlimited personal wealth—that's the problem. She spent $50 million on her failed Senate bid in 2010 and has already spent more than $13 million this year.6 But Chris Murphy's values—fighting for campaign finance reform and quality health care—are much more in line with Connecticut's voters', and he's opened a small lead.

Tammy, Sherrod, and Chris wouldn't just be reliable votes in the Senate. They've already proven themselves as progressive fighters. But they need our help to overcome their radical opponents and keep the Senate Democratic.
