Stop Dunkin' Donuts from stealing from employees

Dear MoveOn member,

I'm Barbara Fisher, a Dunkin' Donuts employee and member of the organization Fight for $15, and I started a petition to Congress, which says:

Companies like Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's steal money from employee paychecks every single day. Congress needs to crack down on this illegal practice right now. Pass the Wage Theft Prevention and Wage Recovery Act TODAY!

I work at Dunkin' Donuts—and our bosses steal from us.

Not at gunpoint. They skip overtime payments—or simply erase hours from our checks.1

If I took $20 from the till, they'd fire me—or even call the police. When they take it straight off of our paychecks? Nothing. It's illegal, but it happens every day to thousands of workers across the country.

Right now, we have a huge opportunity to end these illegal pay practices. Congress just introduced a bill cracking down on employers that steal from workers like me, and they need to hear from us that this is an urgent problem.2

Click here to add your name to this petition, and then pass it along to your friends.

Thanks!

This video will make you believe

These supporters will make you believe. Now it's our job to make sure everyone believes—and gets out there to vote.

MoveOn for Bernie

Dear MoveOn member,

We just scored a major victory in Wisconsin, with Bernie Sanders winning by 13 points. We've now won six states in a row by double-digit margins. We're heavily favored to win in Wyoming on Saturday as well. After that, the primary moves to New York—one of the toughest and most important contests of the entire election.

And the latest reports show that Bernie has a real shot at winning the Empire State—gaining a massive haul of delegates and putting him on a clear path to the nomination.1

But it’s only possible if all of us step up to make it happen—because, as Bernie says again and again, this political revolution isn't about him. It's about us.

Will you join in and volunteer for Bernie Sanders this weekend? If so, then there are two things to do right now.

1. Watch and share this inspirational two-minute video from Bernie’s New York kickoff rally.

2. Join these passionate supporters by volunteering to get the word out to more voters from anywhere in the country to help Bernie win New York and other upcoming states.

This video will make you believe. These supporters will make you believe. Now it's our job to make sure everyone believes—and gets out there to vote.

Person-to-person outreach is the most effective way to get folks out to vote for Bernie. As one New York supporter says in the video, when people know about Bernie, they turn out to vote—and as we've seen in Wisconsin and the past six contests, when we turn out to vote, we win. So let’s do this.

Say you'll get the word out to voters who need to hear about Bernie in upcoming primary states.

Thanks for all you do.

HUGE VICTORY! (Wisconsin)

We've just won another state for our political revolution, and it's a big one: Wisconsin.

Another overwhelming victory for our campaign in Wisconsin!

Eddie—We've just won another state for our political revolution, and it's a big one: Wisconsin.

The corporate media and political establishment keep counting us out, but we keep winning states, and doing so by large margins. If we can keep this up, we're going to shock them all and win this nomination.

Click here to contribute $2.70 to our campaign and MoveOn now, and we are going to keep winning states by large margins until we can win this nomination and take our country back from the billionaire class.

Wyoming caucuses in just three days and New York votes in two weeks. You can bet the financial elite of this country won't give up without a fight. They're going to throw everything they can at us. But if we stand together, we're going to keep winning.

Last night kicked off the most important three-week stretch of the campaign and we're starting off with another overwhelming victory. If we can keep our momentum going through the states that vote and caucus over the next three weeks, we’re going to win this election.

We're doing so well because millions of people keep standing with our campaign. Contribute $2.70 to our campaign and MoveOn now, and help us win Wyoming on Saturday and New York on April 19.

Amazing win last night. It wouldn't have happened without you. That's the absolute truth.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders

Wednesday: Stand Against Donald Trump's Hate in Long Island

Donald Trump is bringing his hate and bigotry to Long Island.

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

Tomorrow, Donald Trump is coming to Long Island and we refuse to stand idly by or allow our hometown to be a host for hate.

Will you join local Long Islanders tomorrow, Wednesday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. for a peaceful protest to stand against Trump’s hate?

Trump has treated large swaths of the American people with disrespect and contempt. He’s made outrageous comments about immigrants, Muslims, and women.

That is why we are choosing to use our right to assemble freely to protest Trump’s hate and rhetoric in Long Island.

As has been the case for the past few weeks, Trump's schedule and the location of his rally were only just announced. That's why we're reaching out to you now to invite you to join us.

Join me in standing non-violently against Trump’s bigotry and hate tomorrow, Wednesday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. in Bethpage.

This is a grassroots demonstration being led by local groups in Long Island including Long Island Progressive Coalition, Eastern Long Island NAACP, Long Island Immigrant Alliance, and more. We will begin gathering at 4:30 p.m. outside of Grumman Studio. We will stand together for a nonviolent, peaceful demonstration—a show of solidarity against Trump's violence-inciting rhetoric.

By choosing to attend this event, you are acknowledging the risks involved and committing that you intend to participate in a nonviolent way and work to de-escalate potential confrontations with Trump supporters or others.

We refuse to be a home for hate. And we will continue working to stop Trump and the racism and xenophobia he perpetuates. Will you come stand against hate and bigotry tomorrow?

Yes, I will be there!

Thanks for all you do.

WATCH: They are stealing votes

Dear fellow MoveOn member,

In 2013 the Supreme Court effectively gutted many of the protections inherent in the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

As a result states are finding new ways to stop more and more people—especially African Americans, low income Americans, and young people—from reaching the polls.

But there are some straightforward steps we can take that would protect everyone's access to the polls.

Will you take three minutes to watch my latest video with MoveOn, Voter Suppression (and how it works)? And please share it with your family and friends.

VotingRights

Voting rights are too important to be left to partisan politics.  We must not allow anyone’s vote to be taken away.

Thanks for watching and sharing Voter Suppression (and how it works).

And thanks for all you do.

—Robert Reich

P.S. As part of the Democracy Awakening, MoveOn is joining over 250 progressive organizations to organize for voting rights, to get money out of politics, and to urge the Senate to vote on the current Supreme Court nominee. I'm thrilled that Voter Suppression (and how it works) will have its first public screening as part of this massive effort. Learn more about Democracy Awakening here!

BREAKING: Donald Trump

MoveOn is launching a major campaign to defeat Donald Trump.

Dear MoveOn member,

Breaking news: MoveOn members just voted 71% to 29% to launch a major campaign to show that our country rejects Donald Trump's hate-baiting, racism, misogyny, and violence.

Will you chip in to help jump-start this campaign?

This is an unusual campaign—going after the leading Republican before the nominations on the Democratic or Republican sides have been decided. But, if we wait until the fall, it may be too late, and Trump may have succeeded in redefining himself in the eyes of the media. We can't afford to let that happen.

Donald Trump is not just your typical right-wing Republican. He represents something fundamentally dangerous for democracy—something we haven't seen in years, since the days of George Wallace and Joe McCarthy.

He's attacked entire ethnic and religious groups, calling them rapists and murderers.1 He's threatened violence if he doesn't get his way at the Republican National Convention.2 He's attacked freedom of the press, and his campaign manager was just charged with battery against a reporter.3,4

That's why it's not enough for him to lose. He needs to be unequivocally rejected by the American people so that he and his hateful brand of politics are buried in the dustbin of history. Will you chip in to help launch MoveOn's campaign to defeat Donald Trump and his politics of hatred and incitement to violence?

Already, MoveOn members have been gathering at peaceful demonstrations to stand against Trump's hate.

And earlier this month, MoveOn's executive directors joined a group of civil rights, women's rights, labor, environmental, and other progressive leaders—including supporters of both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders—to oppose Trump’s hate-baiting and incitements to violence.

Your donation will allow us to take our campaign to the next level, including:

  • Reaching and mobilizing new voters with state-of-the-art voter outreach and get-out-the-vote strategies;

  • Supporting Muslim Americans, immigrants, women, and others who have been targeted by Trump-inspired violence, including teaming up with local leaders for nonviolent and creative demonstrations carrying the message that "Love trumps hate";

  • Working with artists and public figures to loudly rebuke Trump's hateful stances through shareable digital content, creative ads, and other public expression;

  • Holding accountable corporations, politicians, media figures, and anyone who legitimizes Trump's hate-mongering, violence, racism, and misogyny.

This is a gut check for American democracy. We must step up to the moment and show the world that we are better than this. Will you chip in?

Tens of thousands of MoveOn members wrote in with stories, sharing the reasons they voted for MoveOn to take on Trump's hate. Here are a few:

  • "Even the slight possibility that Trump could win the election is scary enough to pull out all the stops." —Jim M., Providence, RI

  • "Trump's rhetoric is leading to an escalation of violence at not only his rallies, but also in America in general. We must speak out against hatred at every opportunity." —Amber L., Allendale, MI

  • "Because he will be a detriment to our economy, racial harmony, and a security risk to our country. As a Navy Veteran and mother of three racially diverse daughters, I am committed, like many, to help keep him out of the White House. He's not just a misogynist and bigot, he's going to cause World War 3, in my opinion." —Rubi W., Virginia Beach, VA

  • "I'm an American Muslim teenager who recently got a full ride scholarship to study at MIT. I shouldn't have to worry about my parents being deported back to their home country. I should not have to worry about registering by force of the government. I should not have to worry about fleeing my home." —Jeba S., Laveen, AZ

  • "Trump is probably one of the most dangerous things that could happen to this country in my lifetime (I am 28). If just his campaign alone can divide the country and already incite violence, I don't want to wait and find out what atrocities he would bring about as president. I also think, regardless, it is needed in this time to stand in solidarity with Muslims, people of color, and all the people that Trump is trying to oppress." —Guy S., San Francisco, CA

  • "Clearly, ignoring him until he goes away isn't going to work, as Trump's campaign keeps rolling on like a snowball going downhill! It's time to push back before the avalanche of his ever-growing support smothers us all." —Kris H., Philadelphia, PA

Will you chip in?

Thanks for all you do.

–Victoria, Ilya, Milan, Hannah, and the rest of the team

P.S. As part of the vote, we said we'll explore starting a Super PAC to allow us to have the funds needed to run ads, hire organizers, reach millions of voters, and more, that would be used only for the general election. We'll keep every MoveOn member posted if we move in that direction. But MoveOn depends on members like you to fund this work. Can you pitch in to fund this campaign?

Eddie, will you sign up for Monday's call?

I hope you can join me for a special national Supreme Court call on Monday night.

Dear MoveOn member,

I wanted to make sure you saw Jo's invitation to join me for a call on Monday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT) about the Supreme Court. The deadline for signing up is at midnight on Sunday.

Eddie, this fight over the Supreme Court is one of the most important challenges facing progressives this year.

Together, we can help give President Obama’s nominee, Chief Judge Merrick Garland, timely consideration and an up-or-down vote.

We can fight back against Senate Republicans who refuse to do their jobs.

And we can win—but we have to ramp up all our efforts right now.

Click here now to join me on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT). Midnight on Sunday is the deadline to sign up.

Thanks for all you do.

—Elizabeth Warren

Dear MoveOn member,

With so much riding on our ability to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy, I’m excited to invite you to a special call with Senator Elizabeth Warren this Monday night to discuss what's at stake in this fight and how progressives can end Republican obstructionism and fill the seat before it's too late.

MoveOn's national conference call with Sen. Warren is this Monday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET (7 CT/6 MT/5 PT).

RSVP now to reserve a spot. On Monday, you'll receive a call at the number you provided to connect you to the conference call with Sen. Warren. The deadline for signing up is on Sunday at midnight.

After weeks of public outcry over Senate Republicans' outright refusal to consider any President Obama nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court, we’re starting to see cracks in the GOP’s unified opposition. Sixteen Republican senators have now said they'd meet with Judge Merrick Garland—and several have said Judge Garland's nomination should receive hearings and a vote.1 We’re making progress.

But time is running out. Conventional wisdom says that if there aren't hearings by summer, Republicans will be able to drag this out through the election—which means we need to break the Republican chokehold in the next eight weeks if we want to see this seat filled.

On Monday night, Sen. Warren will talk about what it's going to take to fill the seat. Will you join us on the conference call to be a part of the discussion and learn how you can help?

Yes, I’ll RSVP now to join the call with Sen. Warren.

So much is at stake in this fight. If we win and fill the seat, justices appointed by Democratic presidents would hold a majority on the Supreme Court for the first time in four decades.2 We could reverse Citizens United, stop states from closing abortion clinics, restore voting rights, and so much more. We’d affect the fundamental direction of the Court not for a year or two but possibly for a generation.

That's why Elizabeth Warren is joining us and members of many other progressive organizations in this massive campaign. And we know we can break Republican obstructionism—we've done it before, in the fall of 2013, when we forced Republicans to end the government shutdown. Now we need to do it again.

Please join us for a special conference call with Elizabeth Warren on Monday, April 4, at 8 p.m. ET to talk and strategize about what it's going to take to break the GOP blockade of the Supreme Court.

Click here to RSVP. (It's easy to sign up. And you'll receive a phone call at the number you provided when our call is about to begin.) Don't miss the midnight on Sunday deadline to sign up!

Thanks for all you do.
