Help stop Republican attacks on energy

Republicans are attacking Democrats from conservative districts who voted for the House energy bill. If we don't fight back against these attacks, the energy bill will get even weaker. Can you chip in $25 to help?

Dear MoveOn member,

Democratic representatives from conservative districts who voted for the big energy bill are under vicious assault from the Republican Party.1

Republicans are attacking for two reasons: They want those seats back, and they want to scare moderates away from energy and climate legislation. We can't let them succeed on either front.

The best way to fight back is to make sure vulnerable members of Congress know that when they stand up for clean energy, we've got their backs.

The truth is, the energy bill that passed the House of Representatives was weakened badly during negotiations with Big Oil and Coal industry lobbyists and their allies in Congress. The bill doesn't require any more clean energy than is already in the works and would repeal key provisions of the Clean Air Act.

But the Republicans know that if they can exact political pain from the Democrats who voted for even this bill, then it's harder for those Representatives—and their colleagues in the Senate—to stand firm when it comes to health care and other big issues.

So they're running TV and radio ads and generating automated "robo-calls" smearing the president's plan to jumpstart the economy with clean energy. The attacks are so inaccurate that one TV station in Roanoke, Virginia is refusing to air them.2

Republicans are on the attack at this very moment—so we need to step up right away. Can you chip in $25 to help them? Just click here:
