Did the FBI just hand Trump the election?

It's been five days since FBI Director James Comey sent that outrageous letter to Congress. And I'm still mad.

Dear MoveOn member,

It's been five days since FBI Director James Comey sent that outrageous letter to Congress. And I'm still mad.

Honestly, what on earth was he thinking? Eleven days before a presidential election? It's longstanding Justice Department protocol to not disclose information like his letter within 60 days of an election to avoid influencing the vote.1

And now suddenly the polls are shifting toward a Trump upset.2

We have no idea what Comey was thinking. And at this point it doesn't matter. All that matters is that we keep Donald Trump out of the White House.

We have nearly 200 organizers training tens of thousands of volunteers to knock on doors, call, and text to reach more than 1 million progressive voters across eight key states—and if you chip in today, we'll pour your donation right into our voter turnout effort. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in $3 to help get out the vote and stop Donald Trump.

The FBI's letter is being called "unprecedented," "unacceptable," and "a serious mistake" by Republicans and Democrats alike.3 When Comey sent the letter, he hadn't even looked at the emails.4 They could be duplicates. They could be spam. They could be nothing.

Members of the George W. Bush administration have condemned it.5 Even Joe Walsh, a rabid Tea Party birther who just a week ago was calling for armed overthrow of the government in the event of a Clinton victory, said it was "wrong and unfair."6

At some point, after the election, there's going to have to be a discussion about what the heck James Comey was thinking when he sent that letter.

But that time is not now. Right now, the only thing that matters is beating Trump. And with one week left, the only way to do that is to get out the vote.

MoveOn members are knocking on doors in key battleground states, calling key voters from around the country, and using innovative tools from text messaging to social media to cut through the media noise. Our organizers will work flat out day and night until the polls close. And whatever you donate today, we can put directly into the places where it's needed most. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in $3 to help get out the vote and stop Donald Trump.

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support our work? Senator Elizabeth Warren says, "I'm so enthusiastic about MoveOn's smart and targeted plan to hire a network of organizers in key battleground states to mobilize and train volunteers to knock on hundreds of thousands of doors. It's bold and ambitious—and exactly what is needed to help swing Senate races and resoundingly defeat Donald Trump." Will you chip in to help make it all possible?
