THIS is people power

Dear New York MoveOn member,

There's no way to ignore it: This presidential election is uncomfortably close.

For weeks now, it's looked like Hillary Clinton was all but guaranteed a victory, but take it from me: There's no such thing as a sure thing in politics. Polls have tightened just in the past few days. And this has me especially worried: A Washington Post/ABC poll this week showed Trump up by one point.1

I've seen the "impossible" happen and the "guaranteed" fizzle out more times than I can count. My own 2004 campaign for president had me going from long shot to front-runner and back again faster than anyone could predict.

The most powerful thing any of us can do in these last five days is talk to progressive voters in swing states—because there are plenty of progressive voters who are not yet committed to voting, and their votes can make the difference on Tuesday. By this time of year voters are sick of the glitzy ads and the nightly horse-race update. The only thing that can break through is a real person—a person like you—taking the time to have a conversation to make sure they're planning to vote. So will you do it?

MoveOn volunteers will be calling progressive voters in swing states until midnight ET tonight and every day until polls close on Election Day. Will you commit to making these important calls during the last four days of the election?

I can start making calls right now!

Tuesday, November 8 (Election Day!)

Trump may be the most dangerous person ever to run for president, and even if Hillary wins, Republican senators like Ted Cruz and John McCain are now openly planning to leave the Supreme Court vacancy unfilled—permanently. It's just one piece of the obstruction they're already intending in an attempt to derail a Clinton presidency. We simply can't let Republicans hold the White House OR the Senate—our democracy literally depends on it.

That's why I'm writing to MoveOn members: I believe in people power.

MoveOn's United Against Hate campaign is doing something truly remarkable. MoveOn members around the country are calling, texting, and knocking on doors to turn out progressive voters. People are even taking buses into key swing states to reach out to voters. So far, MoveOn volunteers have already called more than 500,000 progressive voters in swing states. That is people power.

This is how we win elections, and connecting with progressive voters to make sure they have a plan to vote is how we are going to elect Hillary Clinton president and take back the Senate.

Don't sit back and assume someone else will do it. You are the person to do it. I deeply believe that right now, your country needs you.

Sign up for a shift or start calling now to help get out the vote:

Want to support MoveOn's work? Senator Elizabeth Warren says, "I'm so enthusiastic about MoveOn's smart and targeted plan to hire a network of organizers in key battleground states to mobilize and train volunteers to knock on hundreds of thousands of doors. It's bold and ambitious—and exactly what is needed to help swing Senate races, resoundingly defeat Donald Trump, and build the power we need to win progressive change after the election." Will you chip in to help make it all possible?
