Howard Schultz is an unqualified billionaire businessman. He's mad that strong progressives like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Elizabeth Warren want the rich to pay their fair share, so he's decided to run for president to stop this. But if he runs, he'll help re-elect Donald Trump—putting a target on tens of millions of us and our health care.

Schultz can't win as an Independent. But he can peel off just enough voters to act as a spoiler and re-elect Trump. Schultz is already hearing from the public that this is a terrible idea. We need to step it up and make sure he gets the message. We all cannot afford four more years of Trump, who continues to undermine and attack protections for pre-existing conditions and access to affordable, high-quality health care.

Schultz has been critical of popular bipartisan plans which will provide health insurance to all Americans at no cost to us. He's trying to water down one of the boldest progressive stances—health care for all—just to fuel his ego as yet another billionaire white man with no public service experience who thinks that he has the right answers.

Mueller's report must be public (petition)

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report must be made public so that anyone who broke the law is held accountable -- nobody is above the law

Dear MoveOn member,

Any day now, special counsel Robert Mueller could wrap up his investigation into Russia's attempts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election—and whether Trump's campaign colluded with them or Trump obstructed justice to cover it up. But just last week, Trump refused to commit to making the report and its findings public. Americans need to work to make sure that Trump does not try to hide the findings of the report, and Congress has the power to do just that.

Sign this petition: Special counsel Robert Mueller's report must be made public so that anyone who broke the law is held accountable. Nobody is above the law.

The investigation has already delivered indictments of or guilty pleas from 34 people, including Trump confidant Roger Stone's arrest just recently. Yet at every turn, Trump and his loyalists have attempted to politicize and derail Mueller's efforts to uncover the truth. Last week, Trump told The New York Times he would not commit to ensuring the American people see the findings of the report. And at his State of the Union address, Trump called the investigations into his campaign and administration one of the greatest enemies to a healthy nation.

The results of Mueller's investigation are a matter of grave national importance—and Americans have a right to the full truth.

But there's a serious risk that Trump's attorney general—or members of his Administration—might try to hide Mueller's findings from the public. That would be an unacceptable abuse of power by the Trump administration. and we must act now to prevent this from happening. We're calling on both chambers of Congress to pass the bipartisan Special Counsel Transparency Act, which will guarantee a public report of Mueller's factual findings, as well as his reasoning behind whether or not to press charges.

Donald Trump has, at every step along the way, tried to impede and derail Mueller's investigation. We absolutely cannot let Trump or his administration bury Mueller's report. Sunlight is the best disinfectant, and We The People have the right to know the full truth.

A breakthrough on climate change!

What happens in the next days and weeks could help determine if tackling climate change becomes a core issue for Democrats and progressives.

Dear MoveOn member,

This morning, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Ed Markey released their broad and visionary Green New Deal to tackle the climate crisis—which calls for a complete shift to renewable energy in the next 10 years—and now it is up to us to build public support for this lifesaving, paradigm-shifting legislation.¹

This bill does not come a moment too soon. The most recent report released last October by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change noted we have only 12 years to make urgent and unprecedented changes in order to avoid a climate catastrophe.²

And yet, many in Congress—including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi—have balked at the Green New Deal or called for less-ambitious changes.³ But this is no time for incremental change; it is time for big, bold ideas that face this urgent threat head-on.

When Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and the youth-led Sunrise Movement pushed this demand into the national spotlight in November, MoveOn was among the first organizations to echo the call, and we are ready to go big to push the Green New Deal onto center stage in our political discourse this year and in the lead-up to the 2020 election.

Can you chip in $3 to MoveOn's efforts to elevate the Green New Deal—and, in doing so, to build the political momentum to tackle the climate crisis?

What happens in the next days and weeks could help determine if tackling climate change becomes a core issue for Democrats and progressives—which is why it's imperative we amplify the Green New Deal loud and clear, pull in more sponsors, make it central to the Democrats' governing vision, and ensure it pushes a climate debate in the political season to come.

Here is what we are ready to do to amplify Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Markey's visionary measure:

• Working with our Video Lab team to produce powerful videos in support of the Green New Deal. MoveOn's Video Lab has already produced multiple videos about the Green New Deal that have been viewed millions of times, and we will continue to create persuasive, fact-based videos about our climate crisis, boost them across social media and with ads, and make sure millions more see them. 
• Flooding Congress with calls in support of the bill. Our representatives need to know that we want the Green New Deal to be a central piece of legislation that they advocate for, and that as constituents we demand immediate action on climate change.
• Developing powerful stickers and social media graphics to show our support. Imagine hundreds of thousands of bumper stickers calling for action on climate change on cars, bikes, computers, and notebooks in districts across the country—so many that when members of Congress are at home, they cannot make it to their office without seeing one. This will be a powerful, visible reminder of the deep support for this bill across the country. 
• Using our megaphone to call for 2020 candidates to support the legislation. MoveOn is already well underway with planning for the 2020 primary and election, which will include events with candidates and multiple opportunities for MoveOn members to share what is important to us. Using our grassroots power, we will make the Green New Deal a central part of that conversation. 

This is our moment to shift the discussion on climate change. Will you chip in $3 now to help make it happen?

Here's the sad truth: There is almost no way that Donald Trump and the Republicans in the Senate will take climate change seriously. They deny the science and make jokes about the weather, because they are in the pockets of Big Oil and other fossil fuel giants. And we want to be honest: The Green Dew Deal is not about to become law.

But there is an opportunity right now—to show politicians of both parties the genuine, widespread, popular support for the Green New Deal and other visionary approaches to tackle this crisis. Democratic leaders will be watching the public reaction—and MoveOn is in a unique position to flex our grassroots organizing muscle to help shape the conversation.

If we can join with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, Sen. Markey, the Sunrise Movement, and countless other environmental leaders to loudly and compellingly demand action, Democrats will follow that energy—making climate change a central theme of their agenda in the House and a central issue in the 2020 primaries.

And if Democrats do that, it will provide a clear choice between the parties heading into 2020—as a widespread movement of electrified climate voters, including many younger voters, first-time voters, and unlikely voters turn out to support candidates up and down the ballot who will replace the climate deniers in Congress and the White House.

But if the Green New Deal lands with a thud, Democrats will take that as a sign to back away—to be silent on the disastrous impacts of climate change or to seek modest, insufficient responses to this global crisis.

So our path isn't easy, but it is clear: make sure that we bring together millions of voices to make calls, share videos, show up at events, and support the environmental advocates and leaders in Congress in creating a national clamor to address environmental justice; make sure Democrats in House leadership and on the 2020 trail respond to that clamor; and secure a critical place for climate in our political discourse, galvanizing voters and contributing to the cultural shift necessary to take on this issue.

Trump created a crisis by ending DACA—and Republicans in Congress have continued to try to use the fate of Dreamers as a bargaining chip in exchange for draconian, anti-immigrant policies that tear families apart and terrorize entire communities.

$495. That's how much it costs for a Dreamer to renew their DACA status—every two years—and be protected from the fear of deportation. But many immigrant youth who qualify cannot afford to pay these steep fees to apply.

That's why our friends at United We Dream have created the DACA Renewal Fund, which has already covered the application fees of more than 3,000 DACA recipients.

The lives of nearly 800,000 immigrant youth were thrown into uncertainty and fear when Donald Trump ended DACA over a year ago. But despite his most ruthless efforts, the DACA program—which protects immigrant youth from the threat of deportation and allows them to work and study instead of living in fear—is still intact.

Now, the fate of the DACA program—and hundreds of thousands of young immigrants—rests with the courts. So far, three different federal courts have ruled that the current protections must be honored but have closed the program to new applicants. The Supreme Court, whIch could have the final say, just announced that it will not take up a case on DACA this summer. That means existing DACA recipients, who arrived in the U.S. as children and have made their lives here, can continue to renew their status so that they can live, work, and go to school without fear.

But the process is also complicated and expensive—the application fee alone to renew one person's DACA protection costs $495 every two years, putting it out of reach for some and throwing their lives into turmoil.

MoveOn members of all walks of life have stood with Dreamers, immigrants, and refugees against Trump's relentless attacks since this administration assumed office. Together, we've raised our voices to Congress demanding the passage of a clean Dream Act, calling for an end to family separations, opposing Trump's ludicrous and racist wall, and more. In the past two years, we've made tens of thousands of calls to our representatives. MoveOn members across the country have visited the offices of our members of Congress, marched in the streets, and consistently demanded immigration policies rooted in our shared values of inclusion, respect, and love.

When Trump shocked the nation and recklessly ended DACA, the lives of so many were upended by uncertainty and fear. More than a thousand freezing in Brooklyn jail (Sign the petition)

For over a week more than 1600 incarcerated people are without heat and electricity at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center.

I'm Shahana Hanif, a MoveOn member in Brooklyn, New York, and I started a petition after learning that people at Metropolitan Detention Center have been without heat and electricity for days.¹ This is unacceptable.

For over a week more than 1600 incarcerated people have been without heat and electricity at the federal Metropolitan Detention Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Turn on the heat and electricity immediately. 

People in prison also have basic human rights. No one should be forced to go without heat in this freezing weather! It's up to us to make sure Metropolitan Detention Center turns on the electricity and heat.

Governor Ralph Northam

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam's 1984 Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) yearbook page featured racist imagery: blackface and KKK garb. He admitted to being one of the men in the picture yesterday but now claims he doesn't think it was him. The racist image, however, is still on his personalized yearbook page.   

I am outraged that he didn't disclose this during the election and made it this far without us knowing. This clearly shows how the system is set up to protect racism and uphold white supremacy.

The only possible action left at this moment is for him to resign immediately. That's the first step toward making amends.

These workers weren't paid after the shutdown was over

Tell Congress to support back-pay for the federal contractors who were shut out of the jobs by Trump's shutdown.

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley started a petition urging her fellow members of Congress to give back-pay to lower wage, federal contract service workers who were furloughed during Trump's shutdown. She already has support from dozens of Representatives including Barbara Lee, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib in the House, as well as backing from Senators Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and many more on the companion bill in the Senate.

While federal employees are receiving back-pay from Trump's shutdown, millions of lower-wage hourly federal contract workers have no guarantee—putting them and their families at financial risk.¹ This is unacceptable, and this primarily affects women, people of color, immigrants, and low-income folks. Furloughed federal government contract service workers should not have to suffer, feel financial strain, and worry about their very livelihood because the government was held hostage to promote ineffective, racist policies.

Sign the petition to tell Congress you agree that lower wage, federal contract service workers who were furloughed during Trump's shutdown should receive back-pay,

Tell Congress to support The Fair Compensation for Low-Wage Contractor Employees Act of 2019 which gives back-pay to lower wage, federal contract service workers who are suffering due to Trump's shutdown.

Let's be clear. Millions of people were affected. And their lives may forever be changed. Without Rep. Pressley's bill, there is no clear recourse for wages lost for contracted government workers.

Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley is proposing the companion bill to S. 162, introduced by Sen. Tina Smith (D-MN), which was introduced in the Senate and has 36 sponsors currently.

Sign the petition to tell Congress you agree that lower wage, federal contract service workers―including food service, janitorial and security workers―who were furloughed during Trump's shutdown should receive back-pay for the time of the shutdown.
