Postmaster General Louis DeJoy is a Trump enabler who currently manages the day-to-day operations of the USPS. DeJoy is one of Trump's cronies who kept his job after President Joe Biden's inauguration, and the post office could be stuck with him if we don't act now.  

Sign now: Urge President Joe Biden and the Senate to immediately fill the vacancies on the Postal Board of Governors with appointees who will hold Louis DeJoy accountable for the damage he's done.

The United States Postal Service is a public good. They deliver to every address regardless of location, which is important, especially for people who live somewhere rural or hard to access. They deliver essential, lifesaving prescription medication and have continued to deliver important packages for small businesses and families alike. They are the backbone of our democracy, especially during this pandemic, when they delivered over 100 million ballots for the 2020 election. The USPS keeps our society going and has been the truest of essential services.

Despite all of this, Louis DeJoy deliberately sabotaged the functioning of the USPS by eliminating overtime pay, reducing retail hours, closing and consolidating post office locations, removing mail-sorting machines before the election, and implementing tactics to slow down delivery speeds.¹ These delays disproportionately targeted communities of color, which added insult to injury after decades of voter suppression against Black and non-Black communities of color.²

The board of governors oversees the activities of the Postal Service. They can hire and fire the postmaster general, review all practices of the USPS, and along with the Postal Regulatory Commission, set policies for the Postal Service. The board currently has a Republican majority, but only because there are three empty Democratic seats.

DeJoy was selected by Donald Trump to sabotage the post office in order to privatize it, but we can stop him. The board of governors can hold DeJoy accountable for carrying out Trump's wishes of strategically dismantling the functioning of post offices across the country. The board can and must set a new direction for the post office, and we can ensure this happens by filling the vacancies on its board of governors.

Pressure from people like you and me works. This summer, a coalition formed to come to the defense of the post office, and we saw over 1,100 events at local post offices across the country. Both the House and the Senate called DeJoy to testify about the service cuts in August.³ Federal Court Judge Stanley Bastian called DeJoy's changes "a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service."⁴ After public outcry, our advocacy, and multiple lawsuits, DeJoy was pressured into reversing all slowdown changes before Election Day. But DeJoy immediately began reinstating those changes on November 4. Our advocacy and pressure must continue.

DeJoy has said that he's working on a 10-year plan for the post office that will come out soon, and we can expect it to feature more attacks against Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and rural communities; more price hikes and service cuts; and other measures to carry out Trump's OMB report calling for the post office to be privatized and sold for parts. He's already announced plans to cut service to Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii.⁵

The stakes couldn't be higher: We saw the effects of Louis DeJoy's pet project to slow down the mail, jack up prices, and privatize the post office in the middle of a pandemic that is decimating the postal workforce. 20,000 postal workers either tested positive for COVID-19 or were quarantining due to exposure leading up to the holidays. Postal workers were pushed to their breaking point, working double shifts to deliver our packages. The volume increase was entirely predictable, and DeJoy did not plan for it.

If we don't stop Louis DeJoy now, a national treasure will be lost. That's why President Biden and the Senate must fill the empty seats on the Postal Board of Governors with pro-post office members who will prioritize the mandate of the USPS to serve all of us and will stop DeJoy's ideological project to kill the agency in its tracks.

We've come to expect police union leadership to defend cops' violence and abuse, but the recent behavior of Mike Mazzeo, head of Rochester's police union, is absolutely inexcusable. He's claiming that it's appropriate for police officers to manhandle, handcuff, and ultimately pepper-spray a 9-year-old Black child who wasn't even a suspect.¹ This is totally unacceptable.

Sign now: Demand that Mike Mazzeo be removed as the head of Rochester's police union immediately.

It's beyond excessive use of force, and it appears that the child's Fourth Amendment rights were violated.² But Mazzeo thinks the cops' actions were appropriate.

This is clearly unacceptable. No community, especially its Black and brown folks, should be expected to trust or respect a police department with someone like Mazzeo in a position of leadership. Please join us in calling on Rochester's mayor, chief of police, city council members, and Police Accountability Board to force Mazzeo's departure, now.

The RPD and its union have a long history of racism and police brutality against Black people. Mike Mazzeo is the same police union leader who defended the officers who mocked, suffocated, and killed Daniel Prude by pinning him to the ground and putting a hood over his head as he was experiencing a mental health crisis.³

Mazzeo is also suing the state of New York to stop it from releasing the disciplinary records of Rochester police officers.⁴ Mazzeo's defense of these officers—like his defense of the officers who killed Daniel Prude—is a textbook example of the playbook police unions use to shield violent and dangerous cops who are caught abusing their power and breaking the law:

• When police are caught doing something that is clearly wrong, say they were following protocol and blame their training.
• Deceive and lie to obscure and confuse the truth about what happened.
• Attack city officials, activists, and others in a position to hold police accountable.

It's not just outrageous for Mazzeo to justify these officers' violent actions toward a 9-year-old girl—it's a big part of what helps violent and biased police continue to get away with abuse. If Mazzeo can say these things and remain the leader of the police union, it virtually guarantees that Rochester police will continue to be unaccountable and violent. His behavior and way of thinking encourage police brutality, making accountability for police and necessary reform impossible.

Mike Mazzeo has to go.

Update: Marjorie Taylor Green and the Treason Caucus

This is huge: The House of Representatives has removed extremist Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee assignments!

MoveOn members have been signing petitions, calling their members of Congress, rallying, and more to demand Rep. Greene be held accountable for her vile views of school shootings being fake and promoting violence against her colleagues. 

But almost every single Republican voted against this move, proving once again that they are enablers of Rep. Greene, Trump, and the Treason Caucus who participated in the attack on our democracy.

The Republican Treason Caucus doesn't get to rewrite history. Just hours after the Capitol had been breached, vandalized, and ransacked by thousands of white supremacist rioters, 147 Republicans still voted against certifying the election.

But we're not letting them get away with it. Here's how MoveOn members have been fighting back against these Republicans:

• MoveOn members chipped in to fund digital ads targeting Josh Hawley (R-MO), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Ron Johnson (R-WI) and taking over the websites of major newspapers in their states—The Kansas City Star, Houston Chronicle, and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, respectively—including quotes from two of the papers' editorial boards calling for the senators' resignations. 

• More than 700,000 MoveOn members signed petitions calling for accountability for Republicans including Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Roger Marshall—including calls to expel them, investigate them, demand they resign, and strip them of committee assignments.

• MoveOn members joined Voto Latino to simultaneously deliver the petition calling for Ted Cruz to resign to his offices in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. Check out the livestream of the events here and the full-page ad we took out together in the Dallas Morning News to amplify the need for Sen. Cruz to resign.

• Polling from Data for Progress in Missouri, Wisconsin, and Texas showed that a majority of voters in their states want Senators Hawley, Johnson, and Cruz out. Check out Representative Ocasio-Cortez's tweet lifting up the Texas results here.

• More than 400,000 MoveOn members signed a petition started by RuralOrganizing.org demanding that Republican leadership act to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from the House Education and Labor Committee. Yesterday, MoveOn drove a mobile billboard around House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy's district, calling him and the entire GOP out because their refusal to hold her accountable is support for her extremist and disqualifying views, and the event was covered on the local ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates. Our Revolution Kern County partnered to hold a rally at the billboard and delivered the petitions to Rep. McCarthy.

• The Creative Lab team has been producing hard-hitting content demonstrating how the GOP Treason Caucus is to blame for the violent attacks on our democracy, including this video with Eric Ward of the Western States Center.

• And finally, thousands of MoveOn members have called members of the GOP Treason Caucus, demanding that they resign for openly encouraging insurrection. Thousands more called Democratic members of Congress as well, asking that they move to expel anyone who voted against certifying the election.

Together, with millions of MoveOn members taking action across the country, we'll hold these undemocratic Republicans accountable for their attempt to undermine and damage our democracy.

As the Senate gears up for an impeachment trial to hold the seditionist-in-chief accountable for inciting the riot, we won't forget the 147 who actively supported him. The eight senators who voted to overturn the election results should be on trial next to him. 

The Treason Caucus still has power—so we can't let up yet. Senate Democrats must eliminate the filibuster to ensure a single Republican can't hold up essential legislation like COVID relief or democracy reform. House Democrats must go further and expel Marjorie Taylor Greene from office because of her extreme views and support of the deadly insurrection and violence against elected leaders.

Billboards for Donald Trump's conviction

Trump's team is clearly setting up a ploy to turn the trial into an opportunity to promote conspiracy theories, and they're hoping to continue to wield Trump's control of the party to keep Republicans from voting to convict him.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump's impeachment trial for inciting the deadly siege of the Capitol begins on Tuesday, and before the media circus begins, we wanted to let you know what to expect and what MoveOn is preparing to do to demand that the Senate convict Trump and bar him from ever running for public office again for his role in inciting a violent, murderous insurrection.

First and foremost, unlike Trump's first impeachment, Democrats now control the Senate, which means Mitch McConnell and Trump's other GOP lackeys will not be able to rush through a vote without a real trial.

And the case is as clear as can be. As the House impeachment managers have laid out, Trump spent months spreading lies about the election being stolen, repeatedly asked his supporters to come to D.C. on January 6, and then called for them to march on the Capitol and "fight like hell" to overturn the election.¹

And then they did just that.

Trump's own lawyers have no defense against those facts, and so instead they are making the absurd claims that Trump was exercising his First Amendment rights to claim that the election was stolen and therefore cannot be held accountable.²

Many Republicans, especially those who helped incite the riot like Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, are working overtime to try to sweep the events of January 6 under the rug, but as Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently pointed out while recounting her harrowing memories from that day, diminishing the realities of that trauma and attempting to get away without consequences are the tactics of an abuser—one who will just try to get away with it again.³

Five people died on January 6, including a Capitol Police officer whom the white supremacist mob allegedly beat to death with a fire extinguisher.⁴ 

At least 140 other law enforcement officials were injured—many beaten with bats, wrenches, metal bars, and even the pole from an American flag.⁵

The insurrection mob was highly organized, with many members in tactical gear and carrying handcuffs, ready to take hostages or even assassinate members of Congress.⁶

A total of 370 congressional aides have signed onto a letter calling for Trump's conviction and recounting how they hid for hours under desks or attempted to flee for their lives.⁷

These are the stark, brutal details of the attack that Trump spurred on. These are the actions of people whom, while the siege was ongoing, Trump called "very special" and said that he loved.

The horrific events of January 6 cannot be swept under the rug. Trump must be convicted, and the Republicans like Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Lauren Boebert, whose actions and rhetoric helped propel it forward, must be removed from the halls of Congress.

MoveOn helped lead the fight during Trump's last impeachment, and we are ready to do it again. But we need you to stand with us and ensure that not only Trump is held accountable but that the fight continues to demand that his fellow seditionists in Congress are removed as well. Call: Demand the bold COVID relief that we need to survive

There's one simple way that has repeatedly been proven to both help curb both the worst economic effects of COVID, as well as slow the spread of the disease.

Remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Congress

Greene has repeatedly endorsed political violence, calling for a "bullet to the head" of Nancy Pelosi and helping incite the January 6 white supremacist attack on our Capitol.

Let's cut to the chase: Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has advocated murdering Democrats, still thinks Trump won the election, and claims that the deadly mass school shooting in Parkland, FL, was a hoax.^1,2,3 She must be removed from Congress—immediately.

Marjorie Taylor Greene made her name off of promoting QAnon, which The New York Times describes as a right-wing conspiracy theory that promotes the idea that "Donald Trump is a messiah sent to defeat a cabal of Satan-worshiping, child-abusing, deep-state villains."⁶

And she's endorsed conspiracy theories claiming that 9/11 was an inside job and that the Sandy Hook shooting—where 26 elementary school children and teachers were massacred—was staged.⁷

And that's just scratching the surface. She suggested the 2018 midterms—when our nation's first two Muslim congresswomen were elected—were part of "an Islamic invasion of our government," and she thinks "Jewish space lasers" were responsible for a wildfire in California.^{8, 9} Seriously.

We'll get straight to the point. U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) supports the QAnon cult, has called deadly school shootings "false flag" operations by gun reform advocacy groups,¹ and thinks Jewish space lasers are responsible for a wildfire in California.² Yet somehow Representative Greene has secured a position on the House Committee on Education and Labor. This cannot stand.

Hundreds of posts, likes, and comments showing Rep. Greene inciting violence by spewing baseless conspiracy theories that have endangered the lives of many are resurfacing all over the internet. Rep. Greene is seen in one of these posts supporting the execution of prominent Democratic politicians.³ She is even seen on Capitol Hill, harassing Parkland student and activist David Hogg and other survivors of gun violence.⁴

Rep. Greene was recently assigned to the House Committee on Education and Labor by Republican leadership. This is unacceptable. In 2019, Republicans removed Representative Steve King of Iowa from the Judiciary and Agriculture Committees in response to his support for white nationalists.⁵ The same must be done to Rep. Greene.

Based on this precedent, her incitement of violence, and her egregious attacks on our democracy, Republican House leaders can and must remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from her committee appointment.

Throughout history, we've seen white supremacy and far-right groups go unchecked for the violence and terror they have caused.  Most recently, Donald Trump was enabled and supported by Republicans for four years as he attacked our democracy over and over.

It's long overdue for the GOP to grow a spine. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's support for QAnon and her attacks against survivors of gun violence have no place in Congress. Her dangerous ideas have no place in Congress.
