Dear MoveOn member,
Ferguson. Immigration reform. Major new climate agreements. Negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. Low-wage workers making history with nationwide strikes.
There is just a TON happening in the news right now, and it's frankly hard to keep up—and understand what we can each do to keep our country and world moving in the right direction.
To help make sense of it all, we reached out to some brilliant friends and allies—including Cristina Jimenez, a young activist with United We Dream; Heather McGhee, the head of the democracy and economy think-tank Demos; Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT); and Rashad Robinson, the head of the online civil rights organization Color of Change—for a video round-table discussion of what's happening right now and what we can each do to help.
I'm thinking of this as a mini progressive round-up—a moment to take stock of what's moving as we close out 2014.
Our four guest presenters are passionate thought-leaders who'll help us better understand this high-stakes social and political moment. We'll learn more about the window of opportunity progressives have in the coming days, weeks, and months to push for racial justice, lasting immigration reform, a fair economy, a diplomacy-first foreign policy, and more.
Be sure to sign up because you're not going to want to miss:
- Cristina Jimenez, Co-Founder of United We Dream, the nation's largest immigrant youth-led organization, which was instrumental in winning executive action from President Obama;
- Heather McGhee, President of Demos, a progressive public policy shop working for an equal say and an equal chance for all;
- Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) who currently serves on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations—and has been one of the leading voices in the Senate for a progressive foreign policy; and
- Rashad Robinson, Executive Director of Color of Change, a leader in the national movement for racial justice.
In the last weeks, by signing petitions, making thousands of calls, attending rallies to support striking Walmart workers, and calling on President Obama to stand boldly for progressive values—MoveOn members have demonstrated that we've emerged from the mid-term elections emboldened, energized, and ready to fight.
Thanks for all you do.
