Dear MoveOn member,
As Rachel Maddow first announced on her show Monday night, MoveOn members and our allies are organizing nearly 300 events in 41 states from coast to coast TOMORROW to demand the release of the full report, with no unnecessary redactions, from special counsel Robert Mueller.1
House Democrats, led by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, set yesterday as the deadline for Donald Trump's attorney general, William Barr, to release the full report—a deadline which he missed.2
We deserve the full report now. And congressional leaders and the American people expect it now.
MoveOn and our allies in the Nobody Is Above the Law coalition have been preparing for months for this scenario. Thousands of people have already signed up to protest at nearly 300 events across the country, in the event that the report isn't released.
So, now, we're "breaking glass" and activating this rapid-response network. We're coordinating protests that will take place tomorrow to make sure that we strike while the iron is hot and keep the Mueller report in the news. But we have less than 24 hours to make these events a huge success.
We still need your help to raise $75,000 by tomorrow to pay for online ads, sign language interpreters, staging, lights, sound equipment, signage, press outreach, support for volunteer organizers who are running these events across the country, our big flagship event in Washington, D.C., and more. Are you in?
Thanks in part to our grassroots pressure, Mueller's team was able to finish his work—but Barr, Trump's handpicked appointee, is preventing it from seeing the light of the day. And that's unacceptable.
Two weeks ago, the House of Representatives voted 420-0 to demand the release of the Mueller report.3 That's right. Not a single Republican in the House, not even Donald Trump's biggest supporters, dared to vote against the report's release. Yet, the report is still being withheld by the Trump administration.4 And so it's time to show our collective outrage. Both Democrats and Republicans voted to demand the release of the report, but if Republicans don't join Democrats to force the release of the report, then it's an empty vote.
As we've shown time and again, public pressure—pressure from us—can work. And on some issues, even Republicans do break with Trump. After we rose up against family separation, Trump's zero-tolerance policy that was ripping apart families was ended, in no small part due to behind-the-scenes pressure from Republican lawmakers.
But to make an impact, it takes enormous public pressure.
That's why we're taking to the streets tomorrow: to stiffen the spines of Democrats and make sure they use every power at their disposal to force the release of the report (especially House Democrats, who now have subpoena power).
And we're taking to the streets to shame Republicans, who say that the report should be released ... and voted to support the report's release. If they mean what they say, then they need to join Democrats and support a subpoena.
MoveOn needs the resources to spread the word about tomorrow's events, livestream them in real time, and make sure that they get media coverage. (We're already off to a great start with our exclusive launch on "The Rachel Maddow Show"!)
Will you chip in and help make tomorrow's Nobody Is Above the Law protests a huge success?
With your help, we will keep this story in the news and force Republicans—who want to move on—to join Democrats and force Attorney General Barr to release the report. We'll do that by making it clear that if they refuse or try to change the subject, there will be consequences from their constituents back home.
Thanks for all you do.
