Donald Trump's Supreme Court takeover. And what's next.

Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party have now completed the decades-long conservative project to rig the U.S. Supreme Court.

Dear MoveOn member,

Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party have now completed the decades-long conservative project to rig the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fifty-two GOP senators voted last night to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg with Amy Coney Barrett—after 62 million people had already voted and with just one week left in an election to select the next president and Senate.1,2

It was the first time in more than 150 years that a justice was confirmed without a single vote from the minority party.3

Amy Coney Barrett—who at her confirmation hearing called the peaceful transfer of power "a political controversy," refusing even to affirm the bedrock principle of American democracy that voters choose their leaders in free and fair elections—was sworn in late last night in a ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House.4

The GOP has wrecked the legitimacy of the Supreme Court.

Mar, we cannot let Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, and the Republican Party get away with this. We have to fight back by turning out every last voter to defeat Donald Trump by a clear margin, wrest control of the Senate from Mitch McConnell, and get to work reforming the courts and our democratic institutions so they reflect the will of the majority of Americans.

Will you rush a $3 donation to MoveOn right now to help turn out every last Democratic voter in battleground presidential and Senate states?

Amy Coney Barrett was the 220th federal judge whom Trump nominated, McConnell rammed through the Senate confirmation process, and the GOP confirmed. In addition to Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh, and Neil Gorsuch, the total includes 53 circuit court judges—30% of all circuit court judges.5

Since Amy Coney Barrett's hyper-rushed confirmation hearing, we have already learned that Barrett served on the board of a school that rejected same-sex parents and that Barrett's church has a history of sexual abuse of young women that was suppressed by church leaders.6

The impact on American lives will be swift and profound—as the Supreme Court takes up a case that could overturn the Affordable Care Act in just two weeks—and for generations, unless there is court reform.

Mar, this is a huge blow. But we cannot give up. Justice Ginsburg would not have given up. She would have fought back with even more gusto—and so must we.

But we can't do it without you. If ever there was an all-hands-on-deck moment, it is right now.

Will you chip in $3—or whatever you can—now to help turn out enough voters in these final days of the election to end the Trump-McConnell nightmare?

Here's a snapshot of all MoveOn is doing to win this election:

  • Running the largest voter turnout effort in the country that uses "relational organizing"—the fact that voters are much more likely to be persuaded by people they already know than by strangers.7 Our 800,000 volunteers are working to get three or more of their friends in battleground states to the polls—and help deliver the margin of victory in those states. The concept is simple, but the potential impact is massive. Data show that relational organizing can increase voter turnout by as much as 12%.8
  • Sending 4 million text messages PER DAY to voters in swing states to help get them to the polls.
  • Blanketing battleground states with hard-hitting TV, radio, and digital ads to defeat Trump and the GOP.
  • Recruiting thousands of poll workers to ensure voters can safely cast their ballots in person.
  • Preparing to ensure that every last vote is counted.
  • And much, much more.

We can do this, Mar. And we must. Our basic rights, freedom, equality, and the future of American democracy depend on it.

More could not be on the line. Please join us—while there's still time.

Thanks for all you do.
