We will honor her with action

In 2012, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was famously asked at what point there would be enough women on the Supreme Court. Her answer was as simple as it was powerful: "When there are nine."

Dear MoveOn member,

In 2012, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was famously asked at what point there would be enough women on the Supreme Court. Her answer was as simple as it was powerful: "When there are nine."1

Tonight, we are mourning her loss and remembering her brilliant, powerful, fearless, steadfast, and inspiring leadership.

Justice Ginsburg was a fighter for equality from the very beginning, co-founding the Women's Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union in 1972, and subsequently argued six gender discrimination lawsuits before the Supreme Court.2 In 1993, she became only the second woman and first Jewish woman to ever be confirmed as a justice on the United States Supreme Court.3

In her time on the court, Justice Ginsburg was fierce in her support for gender equality, access to abortion, rights for immigrants, and so much more—stances that over the past four years made her a frequent target of Donald Trump and the GOP.

You may be feeling scared or even hopeless tonight, reading the news of Justice Ginsburg's passing, and the immediate calls from Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell to fill her seat on the court.

We are here to tell you that hope is not lost. We will honor Justice Ginsburg's lifelong fight for us with action. We will not allow Trump, McConnell, and the GOP to sneak through a Supreme Court appointment with voting already started in this election.

In her final days, Justice Ginsburg shared this message: "My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed."4

Several Republican senators have already said they will not support a nomination until after the next president is inaugurated.

We can win the fight to make sure that her wish comes true.

Tonight, we mourn her passing, celebrate her life, and pause to thank her for her everlasting courage.

And we commit to act.

Please sign this petition opposing any Supreme Court confirmation until after the next presidential inauguration, and please ask others you know to sign it. We can show we are determined to honor and protect Justice Ginsburg's legacy.

May Justice Ginsburg rest in power, and may her memory be a blessing.

Thank you for your strength—and for all you do.
