FW: RED ALERT: Obamacare repeal vote

Hi Eddie—

With a wave of fierce constituent pressure in the last few days, we've helped stave off the GOP's most recent effort to pass Trumpcare. Politico reports that "House Republican leaders on Thursday delayed a vote on their Obamacare repeal plan until next week at the earliest, denying President Donald Trump a major legislative victory during his first 100 days in office."1

But now we're hearing reports that the White House and Paul Ryan are working over the weekend to secure enough "moderate" Republican votes to pass the new Trumpcare bill this upcoming week. Trump tweeted early this morning that a new repeal bill is "on its way."2

We launched an emergency mobilization Thursday night and have already prompted over 15,000 phone calls from constituents and organized hundreds of in-person visits to key swing Republicans. This weekend, with members of Congress home from Washington, D.C., we started a wave of mobile billboards and airplanes toting "Don't take away our care" banners in key congressional districts. And this week, we'll continue to flood them with phone calls and in-person visits, every day, until this bill is killed.

Will you chip in $3 to help our emergency effort to stop Trumpcare?

Yes, I'll chip in to help MoveOn's emergency campaign to stop health care repeal.

For more details, see Anna's message from the other day, below:

Dear MoveOn member,

Red alert: Paul Ryan and Republican extremists are scrambling one more time to try and rush Trump's rejected, train-wreck of a health care bill through Congress.

Just like the original bill, the new bill would take away health insurance from 24 million people.3

But the new bill is even worse than the original, because now Trump and the GOP are trying to end protections for pre-existing conditions as well. Their plan would be devastating for tens of millions of Americans.

We have to stop it now—for good—which means repeating what stopped the first ACA repeal: a hurricane of constituent pressure on key Republicans.

Will you chip in $3 to help stop Trumpcare and hold Republicans accountable?

Yes, I'll chip in to help MoveOn's emergency campaign to stop health care repeal.

Check out the projected annual surcharges that patients with the following medical conditions can expect under Trumpcare:4

  • Lung cancer: $72,900
  • Arthritis: $26,580
  • Autism: $5,510
  • Pregnancy: $17,320

This is so outrageous that it’s not enough to just stop the bill. This should cost Republicans control of Congress—and that's what we intend to make happen.

Can you chip in $3 to help stop Trumpcare and hold Republicans accountable for their cruel and dangerous bill?

Yes, I'll chip in to help stop Trumpcare and hold Republicans accountable.

Here's what we're doing:

First, we're sounding the alarm and pulling out all the stops to prevent Republicans from ramming this bill through next week. We're making sure that phone calls are pouring in, organizing in-person drop-bys in the swing Republican districts that could decide the outcome, mounting a big digital ad campaign, and we're even flying airplanes with "Don't take away our care" messages in key congressional districts.

We know this can make a difference because the last time that Republicans tried to ram through Trumpcare, we launched an emergency pushback effort, making more than 40,000 calls to Congress in a single day when a vote was supposed to take place—and, thanks in part to that and other grassroots efforts, the bill was pulled!

The Washington Post reported that calls were running 50-to-1 against the bill.5

Second, in the coming weeks and months, we will continue our grassroots campaign to stop Trumpcare and lay the groundwork for actual health care solutions, like Medicare for All. That means more town hall meetings, protests, hard-hitting videos from our Video Lab team, social media campaigns, and other actions to fiercely defend health care for millions of Americans.

And finally, we'll make sure that voters know why this bill is so awful and ensure that Republicans pay a steep political price for advancing and supporting it. That means reminding voters about just how terrible the Trumpcare effort was when they go to the ballot box in 2018.

Will you chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to stop Trumpcare and hold Republicans accountable at the ballot box?

Yes, I'll chip in now.

Thanks for all you do.
