Dear New York MoveOn member,
As people across the country—and around the world—have been enjoying the holiday season, millions of Dreamers and their family members here in the United States have had to spend the holidays in fear and uncertainty. Congress failed to pass the popular, bipartisan Dream Act last week—kicking the can down the road and putting more Dreamers at risk every day.
But last Thursday, 30 members of the Democratic caucus in the Senate stood with Dreamers—and refused to pass a Republican spending bill that didn't include the Dream Act. These senators—including Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand—had the courage to say they wouldn't vote for a deportation budget, and that Congress had a duty to resolve this crisis.
The spending bill passed with the entirety of the Republican caucus and 17 members of the Democratic caucus. But we need to make sure we let Sen. Gillibrand know that constituents in New York stand with her in the fight to pass a clean Dream Act.

122 Dreamers lose their legal protections through DACA every day—nearly 14,000 since Donald Trump ended the successful program in September. And many more worry they'll face the threat of deportation, uncertain whether they can continue their lives in the U.S.
Every time Congress delays action, it's punishing more and more Dreamers and their families.
Congress will need to vote on another spending bill by January 19. Once again, this will be a key moment for all senators and representatives to say no to any spending bill until Congress passes the Dream Act. And in January, we'll rely on Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand to demand a Dream Act and vote no on any spending bill that doesn't include one.
So let's tell Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand that we'll have her back as we all stand with Dreamers.
