Parkland parent insulted by Kavanaugh

Fred Guttenberg's daughter was killed in the massacre in Parkland that claimed the lives of 17 students last Valentine's Day. Yesterday, at Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing, Fred introduced himself to Kavanaugh—his hand outstretched to Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee. And Kavanaugh responded by turning his back without so much as an acknowledgment, walking away, and instructing security to have him removed.

Dear MoveOn member,

Fred Guttenberg's daughter was killed in the massacre in Parkland that claimed the lives of 17 students last Valentine's Day. Yesterday, at Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing, Fred introduced himself to Kavanaugh—his hand outstretched to Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee. And Kavanaugh responded by turning his back without so much as an acknowledgment, walking away, and instructing security to have him removed.1

It wasn't just an insult to a grieving father—and an insult to all those who have been impacted by gun violence—but one more clear manifestation of Kavanaugh's extreme right-wing ideology, a frightening suggestion that he lacks empathy, and a preview of how he will rule if he is seated on the highest court in the land.

MoveOn members are waging a massive campaign to stop Kavanaugh—from making thousands of calls to Congress to hosting rallies outside the confirmation hearings every day this week—and we just released a video of Kavanaugh's insult to Fred.

Will you chip in $3 to help us make sure this video is seen across the country, and to help us pay for the rallies, calls, and other tactics we're deploying 24/7 to stop this nomination?

Yes, I'll chip in and help MoveOn stop Brett Kavanaugh.

How will Kavanaugh react to the needs of regular people whose cases come to the Supreme Court? How will he respond to women's rights, climate change, people with pre-existing conditions, and the rule of law?

Probably the way he reacted to Fred Guttenberg's offer of a handshake.

We can't afford a Supreme Court justice who will turn his back on the crises facing our families, our communities, and our democracy. We can't afford a Supreme Court imprinted with Trump's image.

We've already cut a short video about Fred Guttenberg—and now, if you chip in, we can put real money behind it—making sure that it's seen in key states with senators whose votes could make the difference in stopping Kavanaugh. We will also continue campaigning nonstop this week. We need your help to run Facebook ads to spread the word, to reach out to activists to make calls, and to organize on-the-ground rallies.

Will you pitch in $3 to stand with victims of gun violence, stand with all of our communities that need to be heard by the Supreme Court, and help fuel MoveOn's work to stop Kavanaugh?

Just yesterday, MoveOn members made more than 10,000 calls to the Senate to oppose Kavanaugh and rallied outside the Capitol. The rallies are continuing all week, as are the calls—and we're pulling out all the stops to reach activists in key states: Maine, Alaska, and other states whose senators could be the critical votes to stop Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Stopping Kavanaugh is critical to standing up against gun violence. It's critical to defending immigrants from Trump's attacks—since Kavanaugh could be a deciding vote on issues from family separation to defending Dreamers. It's critical to defending health care, women's rights—including Roe v. Wade—climate regulations, the LGBTQ+ community, and standing up to corporate power and Big Money.

Fred Guttenberg stood up today to deliver a message to Brett Kavanaugh, Donald Trump, and all of Congress. We can—and must—stand with him, as we must stand against the attacks on our communities that Kavanaugh represents.

Will you pitch in $3 now to help run the ad, support rallies, drive more calls, and ensure we're heard in our loud national opposition to Kavanaugh?

Yes, I'll pitch in.

Thanks for all you do.
