Dear MoveOn member,
Mitch McConnell is right about one thing: I’m persistent.
That’s equally true of MoveOn and its millions of members. And our persistence is working: Donald Trump’s house of cards is already beginning to topple.
This is the greatest political challenge of our lifetimes, and MoveOn—and MoveOn members like you, Eddie—must fight even more fiercely for our nation and of all of its people. Which is why I'm asking for your help to pitch in $5 a month to fuel MoveOn's absolutely essential organizing.
For nearly two decades, MoveOn has led principled, tough, and winning campaigns to stand up to powerful interests and fight for working people. Here are some recent ones:
- Republicans haven’t made an inch of progress in stripping away health care from millions of Americans. MoveOn’s Resistance Recess was breathtaking. Hundreds of thousands of members and allies spoke out at town halls and derailed GOP efforts to ram through legislation to shred the Affordable Care Act. Republicans can try to dig in their heels behind Trump’s hollow promises, but the truth is, on health care we’ve got them on the run.
- When Trump first issued his unconstitutional Muslim ban, the immediate backlash was stunning—and it hasn't let up. Mass organizing like the kind generated by MoveOn became a political nightmare for the Trump administration. It bought us the time we needed for the courts and the media to do their jobs. And you can be sure—because of MoveOn and its allies—that we’re ready for the next round in this fight, which for some is truly about life and death.
- And last—but not least—mass calls to investigate Trump’s conflicts of interest and ties to the Russian government are making a difference. When news broke that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied to the United States Senate, MoveOn’s team called for Sessions to resign immediately. That sort of pressure helped send former national security adviser Mike Flynn packing before his one-month anniversary on the job and is challenging Steve Bannon’s presence on the National Security Council. And MoveOn is building national pressure for a full-on investigation of Trump—led by a special and independent prosecutor—and that means getting at his taxes, his conflicts of interest, his ties to Russia, and more.
Look, I’m betting you already know all of the things that MoveOn can do. MoveOn’s led some of the biggest fights of this generation—rallying to pass and defend huge gains in health care reform, working to end the war in Iraq, championing diplomacy to keep us out of additional wars, and protecting middle-class families by organizing to save Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
We've all come to depend on MoveOn and its millions of members. I count on you because you never back down from a fight.
But this kind of grit and determination requires resources. Defending the progressive ideals and values we share isn't free or cheap. None of us—not me or anyone on MoveOn's team—could have dreamed that the stakes would be as high as they are today. But—nevertheless—we're rising to the challenge, together.
Please join me in sending a loud and clear message that you want MoveOn to keep rising to the challenges facing our nation and chip in $5 a month to become a sustainer of MoveOn’s campaigns.
It’s good to be with you in this fight for the very soul of our nation. MoveOn has made it clear that we can count on its organizing for the long haul. And with MoveOn members at my back, I'm inspired to fight even harder.
From one persistent organizer to another, thanks for all you do.
