This is Matt Blizek, MoveOn's Electoral Mobilization Director. It's outrageous, immoral, and unacceptable that House Republicans passed Trumpcare.
We'll fight like hell to kill this bill in the Senate. But I'm writing you because right now, today, we also need to beef up our long-term effort to make Republicans pay the price for Trumpcare by defeating them at the ballot box.

According to polling, Democrats already led Republicans by 9 points in a generic ballot for the House—a historic lead.1 And the Affordable Care Act is more popular than it's ever been, while Trumpcare is extremely unpopular.2,3
Trumpcare will become a crisis for Republicans ... If we make it one. It could turn into a big opportunity for progressives: the beginning of the end of Republican control of the House ... But only if we play our cards right.
MoveOn has a long track record of helping power waves of electoral victories for progressives—like back in 2005, when things seemed pretty bleak, and Republicans controlled the House, the Senate, and the White House.
But when Republican popularity plummeted due to the Iraq war and Bush's plan to privatize Social Security outraged seniors, MoveOn members helped channel a wave of anger and disgust to end Republican domination in Congress. To do it, MoveOn members made 7 million phone calls, organized 7,500 house parties, and launched 6,000 in-district events. We also raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Democratic candidates and ran dozens of hard-hitting ads in Republican districts exposing GOP corruption.4
That's the kind of program that we've got to run now, if we're going to hold these Republicans accountable for today's actions to take away health care from millions. But it will take enormous resources. We have to start immediately and build our program over time. Which is why I'm asking you to make an ongoing investment in that work today.

Our elections work has already begun with two MoveOn-member-endorsed candidates whose campaigns we're working on right now: Jon Ossoff in Georgia and Rob Quist in Montana. And we're about to launch a new Resistance Summer program to train 1,000 community leaders, with a special focus on congressional districts with vulnerable House Republicans.
The sheer scale of this ambitious program has the potential to be game-changing—building the electoral power of the resistance and laying the groundwork to take back political power in 2018.
