A truly transformative leader

Nearly 55 years ago, I joined Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to speak at the March on Washington and call for liberation and equality for Black people around the country.

Dear MoveOn member,

Nearly 55 years ago, I joined Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to speak at the March on Washington and call for liberation and equality for Black people around the country.

Today, I'm writing you to ask you to support Stacey Abrams, a truly transformative leader who is campaigning to become the first elected Black woman governor in the history of the United States.

I have known Stacey for more than two decades, and I am so impressed by her. She founded a small business which helped to create jobs for thousands of people. And she served in the Georgia State Assembly for 10 years, where she rose to become Minority Leader—the first Black woman to lead either party in the state.1

But I am most impressed by her work to register more than 200,000 voters in Georgia in just two years. The right to vote is precious—almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool in a democratic society. And Stacey knows, like I do, that we must ensure that everyone has access to the ballot box.

I believe that Stacey Abrams can win in November. But, first, she needs our help to win her primary election on May 22, just one week from today. To help make sure that happens, I am standing arm-in-arm with MoveOn and other organizations for a day of action: a moneyblast today for Stacey's groundbreaking campaign.

MoveOn has an ambitious goal of raising $100,000 for Stacey Abrams by midnight. Will you join us?

Click here to donate $3—or whatever you can afford—to support the Stacey Abrams campaign and help us raise $100,000 by midnight.

Stacey is a deeply compassionate and thoughtful leader who is always committed to fighting for justice.

I have watched her career for a long time, and I have seen her work tirelessly to build coalitions that have helped protect the poor and middle class, fight voter suppression, and register hundreds of thousands of people to vote.

If elected, Stacey will work to expand Medicaid to help hundreds of thousands of people currently unable to access health care. She will fight for workers. She will fight to pass laws that will protect LGBTQ people, immigrants, women, and people of color from discrimination. And she will fight to fix the broken laws that allow guns to ravage our communities.

And because we have the White House working against these goals and attacking our communities, it's all the more critical that we elect bold, progressive executives like Stacey to statehouses around the country.

Will you join me in seizing this opportunity to elect Stacey Abrams—a transformative leader who strives to empower the people she will serve?

If you still haven't chipped in to support Stacey—and I hope you will by midnight, so that we can hit our $100,000 goal—I have one more reason for you: the long arc of history.

I don't have to tell you that we live in difficult times. And I believe that in this moment each one of us has the responsibility to resist in our own way—to be brave and bold in the face of injustice. We can do that with our day-to-day actions, and we can also do it by coming together to elect brave and bold leaders such as Stacey Abrams.

Stacey has spent her whole life being brave and bold in the face of adversity. She is a leader we need in this moment in history. She is a leader who can inspire others to take up the fight for justice, for equality, and for a country that's closer to the dream that Dr. King spoke of all those years ago.

I believe in her. And I believe that we need to elect more leaders like Stacey Abrams, who will help lead the Resistance. I hope that you'll join me in the fight—and in supporting Stacey's groundbreaking campaign.

Click here to chip in $3—or whatever you can afford—to Stacey Abrams' campaign and help us raise $100,000 by midnight.

Thanks for all you do.
