Trump and the GOP still trying to take our health care

Remember during the presidential campaign, when Donald Trump promised to lower drug prices for Medicare by allowing the U.S. government to negotiate directly with drug companies for better prices?

Dear MoveOn member.

Remember during the presidential campaign, when Donald Trump promised to lower drug prices for Medicare by allowing the U.S. government to negotiate directly with drug companies for better prices?

Well, I don't want to shock you, but Trump just shredded that campaign promise, caved to the pharmaceutical companies, and took yet another step to boost corporate profits while endangering the health care of millions of Americans.

On Friday, Trump announced a new plan he claimed would lower drug prices, but instead of actually tackling the issue of corporate greed, it was nothing more than window dressing. Stocks for drug companies jumped as soon as the announcement was made, and one analyst for those companies called the move "very, very positive to pharma … We have not seen anything about that speech which should concern [pharmaceutical company] investors."1

This news is yet another reminder that Trump and his administration are attacking our health care at every turn, and it is crucial that we stop them—which starts with us ending GOP control of the House this November and creating a firewall to any new attempts to repeal the Affordable Care Act, make cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, and give even more handouts to corporate America.

Can you chip in $3 right now to help protect health care and stop the Trump administration's dangerous and destructive policies?

Ever since Trump took office, MoveOn has been fighting to protect health care. Last year, we organized massive rallies, drove tens of thousands of calls to Congress, and ran ads in districts across the country to successfully stop three separate efforts by Republicans to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

But because Republicans control both houses of Congress, they were able to force through a provision to repeal the individual mandate in their tax scam bill, and there are absolutely no checks on Trump's blatant support for corporate CEOs over the rest of us.

We cannot give Republicans another chance to rip healthcare away from millions of Americans. Click here to chip in $3 now to defeat the GOP this fall.

We know that health care remains a top issue for voters heading to the polls this year, which is why it is so important that we have the adequate resources to run our biggest midterm campaign ever and get the word out about the destructive policies of Trump and the GOP to as many voters as possible.2

Here is just a peak at what we have planned:

  • Endorsing and supporting 100 U.S. House candidates who will vote to stop any attempt to take health care from Americans. We have already begun endorsing candidates who will defend our health care and fight to expand coverage through policies like Medicare for All, and we will continue to promote even more inspiring leaders like them.
  • Creating and running ads in districts all around the country that make it clear where the GOP's priorities lie—namely, with corporate interests and their billionaire donors, many of whom would benefit from cuts to Medicare and Medicaid or a repeal of the Affordable Care Act.
  • Utilizing an innovative secret weapon to help share stories of people around the country who are being impacted by the destructive policies of the GOP—including their constant efforts to rip coverage away from millions of us—that will help push people to the polls in November.

This is a massive undertaking, but Friday's news is yet another reminder of how important it is. Can you chip in $3 now to make sure we have the funds we need to go big?

Thanks for all you do.
