Stunning breakthrough

Hi there—

Ilya woke me up early this morning with an update about the "secret weapon" breakthrough that could help save the Senate from a Republican takeover. The bottom line is: The inventors of this stunning breakthrough have confirmed that it could be a game-changer for MoveOn's elections program this year.

You're probably wondering what "it" is. Well, so are Republicans, and we really don't want them to have this. So, while it pains me to hold back, I can't give "it" away in a mass email.

Ilya first told MoveOn members about this breakthrough just a couple days ago. It's a super-effective new way of making sure Democrats remember to vote. And that's crucial because, in poll after poll, Democrats are ahead among all registered voters but losing among LIKELY voters—the people who actually tend to show up on Election Day.1

And here's the other thing: It's quite a bit more expensive than what we usually do. So we need to raise about $550,000 to do it well. That's peanuts compared to what the Super PACs are spending on negative ads, but we can't do this unless folks like you chip in. Will you donate $3 to help fund our secret weapon to stop a Republican takeover of the Senate?

Yes, I'll chip in.

We've been working closely with the data wizards at the renowned Analyst Institute—which helped elect President Obama using a cutting-edge, data-driven approach—and they've confirmed that this breakthrough could change the course of the election.

Let me break it down. MoveOn volunteers will make about 5 million calls to folks who voted for Obama in 2008 and 2012—but who are likely to stay home in a mid-term election like this one. This new breakthrough means that the same number of MoveOn volunteers—making the same number of phone calls—can now turn out roughly twice as many voters as they could have without this secret weapon.

But for this breakthrough to work, it has to remain hidden from Republicans. We also can't do it unless we can raise $550,000 for it. Ilya has a phone call with our elections team on Monday to decide if we can move forward with this—we've decided to take a leap of faith and get this going if we can raise another $100,000 by then. Will you trust me and pitch in $3 to help fund this huge new innovation?

Yes, I'll chip in to launch the secret weapon, and help save the Senate.

Thanks for all you do.
