What the Women's March still needs

The day after the election, Teresa Shook posted five words on Facebook: "I think we should march." Now, hundreds of thousands of people are heading to Washington, D.C., this Saturday to protest the inauguration of a misogynistic bigot.

Dear MoveOn member,

The day after the election, Teresa Shook posted five words on Facebook: "I think we should march."

Twenty four hours later, her post went massively viral, sparking the idea for the Women's March on Washington. Now, hundreds of thousands of people are heading to Washington, D.C., this Saturday to protest the inauguration of a misogynistic bigot who got nearly 3 million fewer votes than his opponent.

MoveOn has already donated to the march. But this women-led event has grown much larger than anyone could have expected, and the organizers are incurring additional expenses for security, sound systems, large video screens, and more.

Will you chip in $3 to help make the march a success? We'll split your donation 50/50 between The Gathering for Justice, the organization sponsoring the march, and MoveOn's ongoing work to fight for women's rights and hold Donald Trump accountable.

Yes, I'll chip in to fight for women's rights and to help make the Women's March on Washington a success.

The Women's March on Washington is a case study in the power of the progressive movement when we all join together.

Leaders in the movements for racial justice, economic justice, reproductive rights, against climate change ... We're all united.

MoveOn has been spreading the word about the march and helping with communications. Many MoveOn members across the country are getting ready to march.

But to achieve the goals of this march, we need to not only make the march itself a success, but keep up the fight over the long haul.

That's why we're asking you to make a donation today—to both make sure that the march organizers have the resources to make it a success and to support MoveOn's organizing to fight Trump's bigoted, misogynistic, right-wing agenda over the next four years.

With hundreds of thousands of people gathering in Washington, D.C., and countless others participating in 616 sister marches around the world, the march to protest Trump's inauguration is shaping up to dwarf the inauguration itself. But the costs of the march are rising.

If you donate today, we'll send half of your donation directly to the march organizers and use the rest for MoveOn’s ongoing work to fight for women's rights and hold Trump accountable. Will you chip in $3?

Yes, I'll chip in to fight for women's rights and make the Women's March on Washington a success.

Thanks for all you do.

–Jamiah, Hannah, Nick, Ben O., and the rest of the team
